I was at Wal*Mart last night at about 11:30 so I could get RENT as soon as the clock struck 12:01. The guy actually ended up bringing the display with the DVD's out about 5 till 12, and I yelled from nearly half the store away "STOP PLEASE!" because I could see what the display was. I ran to where he was, grabbed a widescreen copy (complete with a free copy of "Center Stage," another one of my favorite movies that I didn't have on DVF yet), and before I could stop myself, yelled out "MINE!" I then started blushing, muttered an apology to the stocker and said "Thank you."

Hey RENT cast-
Haven't gotten around to watching the 2nd disc. I'll do that tonight after work. Jesse, I cannot express enough how you move me during the reprise of "I'll Cover You." You bring me to tears EVERY time. I can't wait to watch the 2nd disc later.
Thanks again to Jonathan Larson and his family, as well as Chris Columbus, the cast and all those involved in the production of RENT. You've touched a lot of hearts.
Peace, Love, Soul

For those that have gotten the DVD today will notice that there is an alternate ending in the special features. For anyone that has seen the play will end up loving this one so much more than the actual ending of the movie because it has the feel of the end of the play....thank you everyone for making this movie a reality

Wow, Wow, Wow! I have never been one to participate in online discussions and blogs and such but i feel compelled to write today.
I am a real fan of musicals in general, but i neverhad access to see them becuase of where I live in West Virginia and we are not known for our appreciation of performing arts. I had not been introduced to RENT until it i heard about a performance being brought to my university's artist series. I felt i should listen to it first before going to see it.
I will be honest I downloaded a few of the songs and tried to understand the story through the few songs I had. Light my candle and Life support stuck out to me the most. I got tickets and went to see the show. I was amazed at the power behind the voices singing these catchy songs and the way the stories told all seemed to fit together, I was hooked from then on.
When I heard of the movie I was beside myself it was all I liked to talk about. The movie was just as good as the performance I saw and te soundterack i heard. I loved everything about rent. i cried at the sentimental parts and laughed at the funny parts. I never felt such a strong connection to the movie until i watched it last night on DVD.
i watched the movie and was so happy that i could have access to this great production whenver i wanted. i then decided to watch the extras and everything changed.
I never knew much of the backstory behind Rent. i was never aware of the genius of johnthan larson until i was introduced to him in No Day But Today. i sat in awe as I watched his family and friends tell his story and relive the process he went through to make his dream a reality.
I have so much more of an appreciation for this piece of art. When i watch this piece of art i don't see a musical, or a movie. i don't see the people who sing the songs as actors they are the characters of Mimi, rodger, mark, maureen, collins, angel, and joanne. I don't feel like i am watching a production anymore. i feel like i am watching and living life. The life of people whom I see everyday.
I cannot express how important the documentary is to me. it has made my rent experience better than ever. Thank you for letting us into jonathan's life. thankyou johnathan for having the endurance and self discipline to make your dream a reality.

I bought the DVD today right after work. I just spent the last 3 hours not doing the piles of work I need to be doing this week, but watching the deleted scenes (once without commentary, once with) and the AMAZING documentary. The movie will either happen later tonight or tomorrow... or both.
This documentary was absolutely phenomenal!! I knew the story of Jonathan's death before RENT opened and have always found it heartbreaking. However, to hear his story from the perspective of his family, friends, and himself... no words can describe the newfound respect and awe I have for this musical. It's been a favorite of mine for the past 7 years (since my junior or senior year of high school) and the more I learn about it, the more I love it.
To the cast... both of the stage show and this movie... thank you for continuing to bring this amazing story to new audiences every day. You are all inspirations and each bring new flare to the show that speaks to new people every day.
To the crew... both of stage and screen... the endless efforts you all have put into keeping this show going and making it a sight to see is amazing. I respect each and every one of you and your craft.
To the Larson family... I can't begin to imagine the bittersweetness you must all have been feeling over the past 10 years. Jonathan's passing was tragic and sudden, yet you allowed his dream to continue on. Thank you all so much for allowing the show to go on all these years. You have all touched my heart and my life over the years. I feel like I "know" Jonathan better through this movie and the documentary. You are all amazingly strong and inspirational people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
And last, but not least...
THANK YOU JONATHAN LARSON!!!

I got mine this morning ^_^
Might I say that I love everyone who worked on this movie, from Chris to the actors to the people who had to clean up poor Roger's vomit when he was sick (oh, yes, that commentary ROCKED). Thank you for making this movie.
I LOVE THIS DVD!
The alternate ending made me cry a bucket. So did "Goodbye Love."
Peace and Rainbows,

I finally got the DVD today in the morning! I had such a hard time buying it since everywhere I went they were all sold out. I just wanted to collapse on the floor and cry in frustruation but I finally got it! So happy but the stupid salesman scared the crap out of me when he said they were also sold out but then he showed me the display case that only a few copies of "Rent", I hit him on the arm and said 'I hate you!'. There's my little adventure for the day.
I went home and watched the first disc (I'm going to watch the second disc tomorrow) and I loved it more than the first time I watched it! I sung along with it and my mom even liked it so it was a movie that we both enjoyed! You guys never fail at making me cry during I'll Cover You (Reprise) and Finale B.
I just want to say one last thing: thank you Jonathan Larson, the cast of Rent, and Chris Columbus for creating something so beautiful for us Rent-heads. Now we'll cherish this DVD forever and never forget how truly wonderful this musical is. I do believe this might be my last post here on this blog (pray to God no!), unfortunately, so with that said: No Day But Today.

WOW....so i saw the movie like 5 times in theater....have seen the stage production 3 times....had the obc soundtrack memorized years ago.....own and have read the book who knows how many times.....and yet there i was in the wee hours on tuesday morning after going to get my copy of RENT at midnight....laying in bed crying because there's something so powerful and special to the music and it was made into such a wonderful movie and I feel like it really stayed true to the stage show....and then getting to watch the No Day But Today documentary....so much was familiar to me having read the book so many times....but to hear and see Jonathan performing....and seeing and hearing these people speak of this man and this show....and to see the original cast actually performing and being like oh i recognize that....there's a picture of that in the book! the whole thing was just really touching....and even some parts of that brought tears to my eyes....i'm just so impressed with everyone who was a part of putting RENT on the big screen....it could've easily been screwed up but it shows how much time and effort and work and love was put into doing it right....you've really hit a special spot with so many people....it's awesome!

This was the first show I ever got to see actually on broadway back in 2001 and I thought it was FAB-U-LOUS. So I was excited to hear that it was being made into a movie, but I was also a little scared too. I was worried that they would change the story to much. However, this was without a doubt the best film ever made.
I work night shift and woke up in the middle of my normal sleep cycle to go and see it on opening day in the theatres. So, it goes without saying I was at the store first thing this am to buy the DVD. I stayed up all day watching both discs. No day but was so moving it was the best. I even brought the DVD to work with me so if I have time tonight I will watch it again.
Thank You Jonathan Larson and thank you Chris Columbus for being so true to Jonathan's vision.

I just wanted to say that this movie, and this DVD is the most amazing thing I've ever bought. My grandpa just recently died, and watching the documentary on John Larson's life just reminded me how important people's lives can be after they've gone. It's truly inspiring, and as for the DVD-the special features are *awesome*. Plus, it's great to finally be able to enjoy this life-changing musical in my own home. :)

Wonderful DVD. :D It made me very happy. I just finished watching everything on it.
The Mark and Roger piece in Goodbye Love makes my heart sing, as does the commentary. You all make me a very happy fangirl. The documentary was brilliant, and totally mindblowing. You shoudld've put some bloopers on or something.
Oh well. I'm sure as hell not complaining.
Much love!

So, I feel like I've been waiting for this day for quite a long time. Anyways, being the newly crazed Renthead that I am, I definately bought the dvd at midnight...and then proceeded to dress up as a pretty convincing Maureen today. ;) (My friends and I definately got a few strange looks) Anyways, I just wanted to say that the dvd is awesome, how can you go wrong, this is Rent. :)
But on a more serious note,I want to say thank you to all the actors, Chris Columbus, and most importantly Jonathan Larson. After recently reading Anthony Rapp's book, I have come to an even deeper appreciate of this musical, so even though I feel like I write much more, I will just say that Rent is amazing is more ways then one. No day but today. :)

My roomies must have thought I was crazy becasue I went to the store diretly from class to get my copy. I then refused to watch it till they went to work casue i knew they'd talk through it...and i wanted to watch it alone for the first time.
I watched the documentry first, which was amazing, while I'd read about the Larson's online seeing them and listening to Jonathan Larson's friends was an amazing thing.
One of my roomates happened to come home during La Ve Boheium and was sitting with me when she suddenly says "Did they just say dildo?!" hahaha. She left the room for the rest of the song needless to say!
Congradulations to cast and crew for doing such an amazing job, I was worried at first, but you blew me away as always.
Thank you Jonathan Larson!
Also, Anthony Rapp needs to call me! lol.

After months of waiting, I bought my copy of RENT on DVD (widescreen please) Tuesday at 9 a.m. at my neighborhood Wal-Mart. I was at work so I couldn't watch it immediately, but on my lunch hour I viewed all the deleted scenes (actually started crying during "Goodbye Love" and the alternate ending!!) and the first part of the documentary (which I'm planning to watch in its entirety on my lunch hour today). Spent Tuesday night watching the movie itself (honestly, it moved me just as much viewing it at home as it did when I went to the theater last November). I've been printing out ANY and EVERYTHING I can find on the Web related to RENT (interviews, videos, CDs, photos, articles, reviews). I've entered the 10th Anniversary sweepstakes (at least 10 times!!!) and have found out the touring company will be in Conway, Arkansas in three weeks (actually, I live in Mississippi, but Arkansas is the closest venue to me). If I don't win the trip to New York, maybe I'll catch the tour next month. In any case, I consider myself now to be a full-fledged RENThead. All I can say is thank God for Jonathan Larson, the Larson family, Chris Columbus, the original Broadway and movie casts and crew for bringing such a powerful, moving, timeless masterpiece into existence for me to enjoy. NO DAY BUT TODAY!!!

I cried sooooo much more.
I love it all. I love everything about it.
Where would I be without Jonathan Larson's beautiful musical?
Thank you Jonathan.
And God BLESS you Chris Columbus!
And of course, the cast was lovely. As always.

HI everyone. I got the DVD yesterday and still loved it after 9 and a half times watching it before. I still cry and laugh at all the right parts.
ANTHONY: i met you at your book signing in west hollywood (which i am still convincing myself was NOT a dream) and now, when i watch the movie or listen to the music, i smile and think to myself "I met a Broadway God and I am listening to him now (or watching)." You are so talented and are such a sweetheart. I can't thank you enough for your kindness the night of the signing. Thank you, also, for being so patient while I annoyingly asked you to sing three different thing and take a picture. Your book was amazing (i was speechless that night and had to words to tell you how utterly amazing the book was). Love you!
ADAM: Your rendition of "One Song Glory" flies far above the rest. You are so talented and adorable on screen. I love you!
ROSARIO: I am always blown away by your talent. I see you in differnt movies and then listen to the move soundtrack or watch the RENT movie and think "Wow...i just saw her in...Josie and the Pussycats and now shes singing so beautifully." I am blown away by your talent in Out Tonight and everything else. Please continue working with your voice. Love you!
WILSON: You are adorable. I love you so much and admire your talent. Not only your SINGING talent (which amazes me) but your talent to walk/run/dance/jump in thse platform shoes when I probably wouldn't be able to stand up in them. So props. Angel is my favorite character and it was always my dream to see you in her (very high) shoes. Now, with the movie, I can fulfill my dream everyday. You were great in the "cat" deleted scene...i cracked up! The alternate ending made me cry even more than the actual ending used in the movie and I cried hystrically from the moment Angel passes to the end. Please...marry me? (and let us know about your upsoming projects!)
JESSE: I cry very hard at "I'll Cover You (reprise)" not only because it is the funeral of my fave character but because of how passionate you are when you sing it. You cry and seeing you cry makes me cry because I know we are crying for the fairly same reason. Your performance in this film was amazing. Love you!
TRACIE: I also met you at Anthony's book signing and was blown away by your kindness. I remember you had to leave and yet you graciously signing my stuff and took a picture with me and then (beautifully) sang seasons of love with anthony (btw tell Anthony it was amazing...lol). You were a magnificent Joanne and thank you (not only for being so nice at the signing) but for portraying this character so beautifully but representing us RENTheads in the move. Love you!
IDINA: All I can say is that your performance as Maureen was HILARIOUS and I would have loved to see you perform it onstage. I still admire you for your work in WICKED and love you to death.
TAYE: BTW, great job on Will and Grace! You are so amazingly talented and I have to fall in love with Benny everytime because you portray him and I can't help it even if his character isnt the greatest guy ever. All my love!
Guys: "Kudos....kudos" on the entire movie and I am so sad that it is unfortunately officially over...nothing more to look forward to. But i hope you all stay in touch here (if you have time ). I love you all too much for words and once again canno thank you enough for making this film as amazing as it is!!!!!
NO DAY BUT TODAY!!!!!!

Bought the DVD on the first day and as I walked into my home I saw my daughter watching TV and what came on at that moment was the commerical for the RENT DVD!!!So I held up my copy to the TV and needless to say my daughter was so thrilled! We decided to watch the alternate ending and deleted scenes first. As soon as I saw the empty spotlight I started crying because I knew what was going to happen, looked at my daughter and she was crying too.She said "why does this movie do this to me?"-really she does know why-It touches her soul as it does everyone else who watches this wonderful, special movie.Since we saw the broadway show and movie many times we then watched the movie with the commentaries.Thank you Chris,Adam and Anthony on the great insights into this movie. It makes it all the more special for when I watch it from now on!You often talked about the audiences reactions to different part of this film- I'd like to add that at the end of Without you -that you could hear a pin drop and then SNIFFLES continuing into I'll Cover You (reprise)At this point I knew that this film had a POWERFUL impact and alway will! How many movies can you say this about?
So after the movie I had to watch the doucumentary.WOW!Thanks to the friends and family members and management into letting us into the peasant party and Jonathan's life and how RENT came to be!
It was then 2am and I had to get up for work so I didnt get to watch the rest. But no problem there will be many more RENT nights to come!
Most of all THANK YOU JONATHAN LARSON for this special gift and Chris Columbus and CAST for delivering it!

Well I preordered mine off of Amazon, so it wont be comming until about Saturday, so I rented Rent last night.
Before I saw the movie in theatres I had only heard the broadway recordings a few times and seen a short bit about the upcomming movie in Rolling Stone, but enough to entice me into seeing it on the big screen. My best friend and I saw the first showing in our city, at the lower quality theatre at quarter to seven pm. I was completely blown away.
Since Novemeber RENT has been pretty much the only thing comming out of my iPod or Stereo.
And then it was amazing to see the songs that have been my obsessions for the past few months comming back together in front of me, but this time I knew all the petty little facts about the amazing cast and Jon Larson and stupid trivia about the show, and it just spectacular.
The Alternate Ending made me cry like a baby when Angel came in.
I am so happy that this show became a movie, because I am one of those people who cannot afford to see a show on Broadway, let alone even pay enough to travel to NYC. Thank you all SO much for bringing this movie to my generation and to those who would never have the opportunity to see it otherwise.
Viva la Vie Boheme!

OMG, I AM OBSESSED WITH THE MOVIE! i think its absolutely amazing. i have already seen it four times and i loke it so much, that i am going to see it on broadway on friday!!
i think that the story is just overall touching. if you let the characters steal your heart and truly get lost in the film, it can really change your life and your outlook on various things.
in the society we live in now, it is important to remember that AIDS, drugs, and many other hardships do exist. coming from the area near where idina menzel and adam pascal attended high school, i know that there are so many people that do abuse drugs and it happens right in front of my eyes. the movie is a first hand look at what damage can be done and the ways in which an inidividual that is suffering can be helped. if that message was portrayed to everyone in our society, i think we could all be changed for the better. and the message of Rent is the most important factor.
i am so glad i was able to have the opportunity to see the film RENT, and im even more excited that i have a chance to see the play!

OMG!!!!! I ABSOLUTLEY WOULD DIE WITHOUT THIS MOVIE!!! My whiteboard has a countdown to rent! When i first saw it My bestest friend and i were crying our eyes out! I ♥ Rent!!!!!! Back to my story, when i first saw a commercial for it, i jumped up and down and screamed bloody murder!! and it was 1:00 in the morning!!! Well I made my mom go get a copy when Blockbuster opened and i just got my own copy in the mail today! I screamed just as loud!!! I listen to the Rent Soundtrack sooo much that my mom grounded me from it!! i listened to it anyways!!!!! Well I just watched the alternate ending for the billionth time!!!!!!! I ♥ it!!!!!!! I love when you get so sad that angel is not there and all of a sudden your heart gets lighter because he comes and sings!! O and one more thing!!!! I Absolutely ♥ Rosario and Adam! But I cant exclude Anthoney, tracie, Wilson ((hOTTIE)), Idina Taye and Jesse!! This movie has touched me in a way no one else will feel! I know now that life is precious!!! And I thank the cast, crew and Jon Larson for this masterpiece!!!!! Freaky, i JUST saw a commercial for Rent again!! Is that fate or what!!!!!Ok now this is way too long!!! But Remember................... Forget Regret, Or life is yours to miss!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!
I just got the DVD today, as soon as I could. I ended up being the right time, I was surpose to work today but I was home sick, my whole family was really sick. Sittting in my room on my bed in even more of an emotional state then I was when I first saw it was really special. I have never been luck enough to see it on stage but the music has been with me for years and has become part of my soul. I really like all of the special features it bring a new level to the film. Just like the rest of rent i don't think the the documentry will soon leave me. I know a few people who wont watch this because they think the this is just a story of gay people with aids. I think if the watch the story of Jonathan's journey and life it would help to see the deeper meaning. Thank you Jonathan Larson for giving us this wonderful gift.

I cried during the "Without You" portion of the documentary
I'm such a dork, that i brought my laptop and the DVD to school so i could show her the deleted scenes during our 15 minute break. It's actaully against the school rules to do that! But we didn't get caught..and I'm just cool that way. Hehe
I saw Cake! It's so funny!
I love the "On a scale from 1 to Taye Diggs" hottness scale on Smallville. Ah! You are so hot Taye.
Jesse, you are amazing. I watch Law and Order like 24-7, which is pretty sad, considering I'm this little 13-year-old girl. All of my other friends only watch SVU, and are disgusted by CI and Law and Order. Hehe. I think it's cool!
idina- You are seriously the most amazing person I know of. You are absolutely stunning. I especially love your cheekbones :) . You have the most amazing voice ever, and you have such a big vocal range...and you can belt....really high. It's so amazing. I bought the Wild Party Soundtrack a couple months ago at "Colony" (this music store in NYC) and when i first listened to "The Juggernaut," My jaw literally dropped.
You also have a really amazing sense of fashion. You always say that Taye is the stylish one..and Taye is stylish..but it is so much easier for guys to find clothes...and i always love what you wear! I also want your hair. Its so shiny and wavy, and not frizzy! It's amazing!
Well, I've requested an invitation to the RENT benefit concert with the OBC, and they have not yet sent out the invitations..ooo i hope i get lucky!
Anthony: AHH! You are so cute. I love you! Your book was so amazing! I read it in two days. I was so attatched to it, that I read it in the car!
err i borrowed your brother's book from the library at my school..um..it's interesting. lol

omg dont even get me started .. everything thing about the movie and the extras are beyond amazing .. "no day but today" is so touching and moving. i love how daphne and fredi were on the commentary. also the deleted scenes are amazing and i absolutly love the alternate ending. thanks again revolution studios, the ENTIRE cast, christopher columbus, and my true hero - jonathon larson.
oh yea and also march 8th i am going to rutgers so i cant go see anthony rapp, my idol, on his book tour. it was the best book ive ever read and you should all get it.

I was first introduced to the music of RENT about 8 years ago in university. Our choir director had been to see the musical and loved it! So, as soon as he could get the score for "Seasons of Love", he introduced it to us, and it quickly became one of our favourite songs to perform. I have never been able to see RENT on stage (too far away!:-( ), so when I heard RENT was going to be made into a movie, I was thrilled. And it certainly lived up to all my expectations, and more. All I can say is that if the movie was that great, I would LOVE to see what it's like on stage!
And then I got the DVD - and there was the documentary - I knew Jonathan had died, but I never did know the circumstances. What a tragedy that he never lived to see his phenomenal work on opening night, and to revel in the tremendous success that RENT became. I was in tears by the end of the segment describing Jonathan's passing.
I would like to thank and congratulate ALL of the actors, Chris Columbus and his team for bringing RENT to all of us who never got to see it on Broadway (yet!), and most of all to the Larson family. Without them we never would have been blessed with the opportunity to be touched by Jon's life and work.
THANK YOU JONATHAN LARSON!

I love it and it just inspired me to go on with my life with who I am and to live each moment as my last! No day but today!

well, when i ran to get my copy at my lunch hour i stopped and fell to the ground..that is literally how excited i was since than i have watched it 9 times including lunch hour at school (in my teachers classroom) and in the morning at 6:00 am. The documentary is so well done it might have even been more touching than the movie. The alternate ending and all the deleted scenes were so good, i missed the out takes but everything else covers for it. When ,y mom and friends saw idina moon benny they gasped and i just simply sat there laughing "omg i love her" *laughs* this movie has made me lose 14 pounds and become more eneregtic.
so thank-you again for this movie because now it is out forever.
sorry for this long entry,

I must agree having RENT whenever I can...is amazing!!!The documentary on the second disc is just as touching and amazing as the movie!!! I have watch both many times and have cried everytime. If everyone could see the pure beauty and truth that RENT beholds this world would be such a nicer place to live...
Jonathan Larson was a brilliant mind and I must extend my thanks to the parents and family and friends of Jonathan that kept it going. I was young when it first opened and without those who belived in it I never would have had the chance to experience RENT!!!

I finally got the movie today!! The wait was agonizing because i really wanted to get it the day it came out, but i did not have a ride because my dad was out of town. So, he came back yesterday and we still couldn't get it. So, today when i was at school he bought it for me and when i got home it was there waiting for me to watch it!! It is so Amazing!!

It took all my will power not to cry during the mark/roger fight(I'm technically supposed to be finishing up a Spanish project so I kind of have to keep quiet, heh). Anyway, it was incredible. That's always been one of my favorite parts because it's so powerful and getting to see it totally made my day. Adam, Anthony, you are the sexiest, most talented men ever.

I GOT IT IN THE MAIL TODAY
I checked on Amazon and it said my copy ould not arive until saturday or sunday, it was my lucky day today :).
I walked home and I went to get the mail from the front door as usual. I scooped up the mail, and realized there was a box at the bottom, so i turned over the pile. The box was adressed to me and I dropped the rest of the mail. I was alone, so I felt free to scream like a teenaged girl around nsync. I literally tore the box apart and squeezed my wide screen addition of RENT. I was sooooooooooooooooooooo happy and maybe even overly excited, but what a suprise! So I spent the entire afternoon devoted to RENT. I dont have school tomorrow, so it was a pretty good day. After my normal sob fest after the last scene, I watched all the deleted scenes, all of which i loved and watched the documentary, which I absolutely ADORED! I am so happy to be the owner of this DVD :). I am going to see the show over spring break in NYC and i could not be more excited.
THANK YOU ALL SO EFFING MUCH. I DESPERATELY NEED TO MEET ALL OF YOU TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU, THE SHOW, AND THE MOVIE. THANK YOU.
LOVE LOVE LOVE,

I went to buy it on Tuesday, but they only had full screen. I live in a college town and there is not ONE copy of RENT in any store! They're ALL SOLD OUT!! Mom's got one at home for me, though :-)

When I first saw there was a documentary, I didn't think much of it b/c I own the Rent book and figured I know the story, blah blah.. but then I watched it and realized how much more alive and real Jonathan Larson felt.. I consider myself a pretty big Rent fan, but sometimes feel like I'd be an even bigger JL fan if he was still around... Thank you to whomever it concerns for putting in video clips of him just being a person, and clips of his other music, too... Made him feel like a real guy I'd like to chat with about politics and life, and not the silent enigma I sometimes feel that he becomes to us that never knew him...~
And on the commentary, thanks to Anthony and Adam.... it was very insightful and also made me feel further connected to the film~

Question-are you ever going to release all the film clips from the website onto any sort of DVD format? (the answers to the questions, Anthony Rapp's camera footage, etc)
Posted by: Jess on 02/23/06 at 10:41 PM
I love RENT. Ever since I got the movie...at midnight on the 22nd, all I want to do is watch it. On Tuesday my friends and I dressed up as RENT characters which was fun even though I did get a few weird looks for being Angel. I have to say that I love the alternate ending almost more than the original ending. It's so much more emotional. I also really liked the documentary and the commentary with Chris, Anthony and Adam. I feel like I know so much more about the show now. I also loved how you filmed the mark and roger fight during goodbye love.

Ok, I had to wait for pay day to get my copy. I just watched the bio on Jonathan Larson. It made me cry like crazy, just as RENT does! The earth was truely blessed to have him here for such little time.....
I think everyone needs to watch this movie, and see the stage version. I tell everyone I know about it.. It has so much heart.
Thank you Jonathan for creating such an amazing piece of art!!!

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! It's clear that every single little decision had so much thought put into it. There was never a feeling that anyone thought, "let's slop a movie together because it already has a fanbase." There was so much effort and care put into everything. The cast was wonderful! Great job to everyone!
THANK YOU for bringing RENT to people like me who would never have had a chance to see it on Broadway!

AHHHHH! I had a free period last thing on Tuesday, so I went to the mall...I am now the proud owner of the RENT Full Screen Special Edition 2-Disc DVD!!! I've managed to watch it already, once normally and once with the director/cast commentary!! Adam and Anthony are soooooo cute!!! ^_^ *huggles Adam*
Posted by: Shannon on 02/24/06 at 09:44 AM
I loved the commentary it's too funny. Though I just thought that Chris was repeating himself the whole time. He alway talked about the lighting! Adam was damn funny especially when he talked about Rosario! Like during OUT TONIGHT he's all like "Just wait till she takes off that robe" and chris is all like"13-year-old boys!" Oh! and when Anthony is talking about HALLOWEEN and he says something about some slowing down effect and chris is all "I don't think that that's th take we used" and Anthony's like "Never mind" I love it and when Anthony talks about the review by the CAP Movie ministries that lists revelry as an offence to God! Oh and at the end of I SHOULD TELL YOU when Adam's all like "I kept trying to give her some tongue but she wouldn't oblige..." that was so funny! I love when Anthony talks about the woman on the train disappearing! Damn the commentary rocked! I love the movie I've watched literlly 10 times since the 21st!

Oh my gosh. I kept ballin through the entire show and the documentary. Half the time I'm giddy with excitement over seeing the impossibly gorgeous Adam Pascal and gang, even without makeup . The other half I'm just having my heart ripped to pieces over Jonathon Larson. But the information on MARFAN is awesome and I know someone with a lot of those symptoms who I'm going to just say look out for this one thing. I'm unbelievably happy this could lead to saving even more lives. Thank you Jonathon Larson.

i had no school tuesday it was awesome. i got it as soon as the store opened!!! anyways i love the deleted scences. the scenes with mark made the effect that AIDS has not only on the people who have it, but on those around them even more poignant. it is important to see how distressed mark is and how hard it is for him also. i also hated that benny ends up looking like a jerk without his scenes where he redemes himself. they need to prove why he is singing with them in "seasons of love".
i love that alternate ending, although i prefer the one in the movie cuz its true to the play. the documentary on jonathan is amazing. i cried. its beautiful. and the commentary, HILARIOUS!
RENT IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!

Well... I went out to get it the day it came out. I had decided last week that i was going to have a showing party at my house for all of my friends who have/haven't seen it yet. We did it last night and it was great... got a few new fans. :D
One of my friends tried converting me from a Joanne fan to Moreen fan, but it didnt work... Im a Tracie fan all the way.

After I saw the movie in theatre I got the soundtrack.
I have listened to it soooo much because I swear to god I thought I saw those deleted scenes. As I was watching the movie (dvd version) i was like, what happened to that song (the rest of the goodbye love).
when i watched the deleted scenes i couldnt remember if i saw them or not. i thought i did and that they just cut it on the dvd not the theatre. but i dont think i did.
funny what your mind will do- that and listening to the songs like a million times!

THIS MOVIE IS MY WORLD!!!!! <3
After anticipating Feb. 21st for so long, my friend and I were finally able to watch RENT from the comfort of our dorm room. We proceeded to watch all the deleted scenes and the documentary as well. Upon watching the alternate ending, I saw Angel walk on stage and began bawling my eyes out at the sight of him. The character of Angel will always hold a sensitive place in my heart.
I don't know if the cast still reads these blogs but Tracie Thoms, you are the sole reason that I'm going to start watching "Without a Trace". I'll be waiting for you to sing on an episode too!
I'm so delighted to hear that the cast is getting together again for a one-right reunion. I'd give anything to see that performance...literally! If I weren't a poor college student in Ohio (where nothing exciting ever happens) I'd definitely be camping out for days for a ticket! Please someone videotape for us unfortunate kids!!
I LOVE you Idina, Tracie, Anthony, Jesse, Rosario, Anthony, Wilson, and Taye (in no specific order!)
All my heart and soul,
Trina Baranski

I must say that when i went out and bought my copy of Rent, I didn't realize that it would captivate my life in so many dimensions. I have literally watched it every day since i bought it on Tuesday and have listened to the soundtrack every day. No matter the situation, Rent has become apart of me. I love it and I continue to love and gush about it every day, to all of those who wish to listen and those who do not. I believe in the power of love that the characters hold for each other, and I know the feeling that each of the characters posess. I know that the time in your life when you begin to choose the family you love and live for because I myself am in that process. I want to thank all of the actors for portraying such animated characters who really speak to an array of generations, including mine- that generation that is beginning their journey of life by going out and experiencing what life has to offer, and confronting the issues and dilemmas that are present in our lives and the lives of the people we love, and how no matter what comes, there is no day but today to realize that the love you have for your family (whether through blood or love) is the most powerful of all.
Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful story that allows people to realize this mere fact of life. Jonathan Larson is and always will be a genious, and may he rest in peace. Chris Columbus and his crew did an amazing job in portraying Rent in a way that can be related to such a wide audience, and that can have an impact on so many lives. And again, to Jesse L. Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Idina Menzel, Tracie Thoms and Taye Diggs, THANK YOU for bringing such influential characters alive! Your work is truly appreciated and adored by many out there, including myself. You are all a true inspiration for taking on these roles (and for those of you who had taken on the roles nearly a decade ago), those characters will continue to live on and influence as people can watch you over and over again. Love to all!
Thank you eternally,
Christina, your newest Renthead

I watched the Documentary No Day But Today. It was awesome that they sold the first 2 rows of seats 4 $20 so that bohemians! ((LOL)) could go see the show! The whole thing made me cry. I also like the music and the format of " Out tonight". I like the way it goes straight to "Another Day"!!!! I now have more respect for Jonathan and deeper sympathy for the Larson family! Hey, you guys in the United States are getting RENT on DVD just as it comes out in cinemas in Australia (2nd March).
I've been waiting with baited breath for 7 years (since I bought the broadway soundtrack at age 11) to see my favourite musical realised on stage or screen and this Thursday it's finally happening!
I LOVE RENT!

Oh, it's sooooo absurd that the DVD is out, and the film itself hasn't even been premiered in Icelandic cinemas... I guess I will have to wait a little longer...

So I've watched the movie about 10 times in the past 5 days because I didn't get the DVD until Thursday. During our long dress rehersals for the musical, my friend and I would run back and forth to the choir room to watch the movie. We would pause it whenever we were onstage and then run back to watch more before our next scene. (This just goes to show that we didn't have big parts) we even introduced some new people to Rent and they love it. Thank you for making such a great movie. My life is now complete, I can now see the greatness of all these performers whenever I want to. Once again thank you to the cast and everyone else who worked so hard to make this movie a good one. I love you all. NO DAY BUT TODAY!

Well I finally bought the movie this past Sat. and sense then I've watched it at least hmmmmmm 6 times!!! I can't seem to get enough of it!!! It's like as soon as the movie ends I'll remember a song or a scene that I love and sure enough minutes later I'm playing it again : )!!! The movie is beyond amazing!!! I remember seeing it for the first time in theatres...I hadn't planed on seeing it really, I had a few hours to kill before going to work so I was like, "sure why not.... looks kind of interesting"... by the end of the movie I wus crying and I was completly numb. Even now watching it on DVD, I get chills. This movie is by far one of the best films ever in history. Each song is just CRAZY and each character is beautiful in their own way. TRACIE THOMS.... Holy S*** !!! She has such an amazing voice... and she is absolutly breath-taking, anytime I hear her voice...my mind goes blank and I'm completly blown away!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE... it moves me every single time I see it... it makes me laugh, it makes me cry, more than anything it makes me appreciate my life and it really makes me think " wow.... there really is " NO DAY BUT TODAY"....I mean tomorrow's never really promised, all you have is here and now". So with all that said....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this amazing movie that has impacted my life and the life of millions of others SO MUCH....and to the Larson family... Jonathan is a genius and his legacy will surely live on forever...THANK YOU !!!!! <3

I lurved rent. If the actors are reading this I want to thank them for participating in the movie. When I got home my mom had gotten it and I was so excited that I accidentally stepped on my sister while I was running around, Rosario you are my idol. You give 100% and Roger you are a cutie u r but me I fancy Wilson. Tracie is a phenominal singer and I wish Taye couldve sung more but he was awsome. Rent has helped to open my eyes and I refuse to get very specific but it stopped me from doing a lot of things I would have probably no most likely regretted. Jonathon Larson was/is a genius. I'm pretty young but I have already considered trying my hand at playwriting. I've always loved to write so why not get famous from it. RENT is inspirational. Thanks again to all.

I got my own copy of RENT from amazon.com yesterday. I've been waiting for this for MONTHS! I have to admit that I was a little afraid of being let down, but that is so not the case! I've seen the movie 3 times already, and the cut scenes and the documentary... I even cried when watching the funeral scene, and well past it...
Thank you so much for making this movie! It's as touching as the stage play, even more in some ways. I watched the alternate ending, and I liked it better than the one in the movie... At first... But now, I think the way it is, is the best! Thank you Chris!
I believe this will be my last blog entry, so thank you again for this movie! And see you in France for the promotion tour!

I bought it too...hehe
The thing that made it so special for me, but more so for a friend, was the fact that she basically had no tolerance for gays/lesbians and I forced her into the movies to come and see Rent, and she loved it! I loved it too of course!
Keep it up everyone!!

So I don't know if I really am allowed to comment considering I really didn't know much about the story. This movie, this story is and will forever be amazing, and it wouldn't have been as incredible as it was if it weren't for you all!! Taye, Idina, Tracey, Anthony, Jesse, Adam, Wilson and Rosario, you all did wonderfully and I start my morning off on my way to school or work with one of the songs from "Rent"!! Powerful movie that you all made so real and touching! Thank you in more ways than one!!

Well, I just found this website yesterday and I really wish I knew about it from the beginning! But, needless to say after sitting at my computer for many hours watching all the videos and reading all the blogs, I can't help but squeel with joy. The cast members are so incredibly talented and have really changed my life with their amazing voices and acting. I wish Jonathan were alive so I could tell him over and over again how amazing he is!
I just want to say thank you to everyone who was involved with the movie or the show. Each and every one of you have changed lives. I hope that this isn't the last of Rent for you and we'll see everyone again!

AHHHH!!! I finally got a chance to watch it, normally, then with the commentary. Adam and Anthony are sooooo cute!! I love all of the jokes they made, especially Adam trying to stick his tongue in Rosario's mouth during "I Should Tell You" and the way they made fun of Anthony during "Tango: Maureen". Anthony's "old man" voice is hilarious!! I <3 Adam Pascal!!
C: And from New York we've got... you guys wanna introduce yourselves?
An: Yeah, Anthony Rapp
Ad: and Adam Pascaaal. (low, sexy voice)
An: I play Mark, and (mumbles) he plays Roger.
Ad: Yesss I dooo.
An: (sarcastically) Great. He's gonna make that voice the whole time. We're in for a nice commentary.
Love,
Shannon
Thank you, Jonathan Larson.

I am so very pleased with this DVD. I've watched it over and over, and the impact hasn't lessened in the least. Every time I watch Angel's funeral scene, I cry my eyes out; I usually do the same at the very end of the film, as it's fading out on footage of Angel. Everyone was amazing in this, but Wilson and Jesse...your performances struck something inside me. I'll be carrying the feelings your characters brought out in me forever, and hpoing I can find a love as deep as those characters shared.
And for the cast as a whole...the way that the crossdressing and homosexuality were portrayed (none of the characters batted an eyelash when Angel showed up in women's clothes, or when Maureen and Joanne got engaged) was so wonderful and strengthening. Not just to me as a lesbian, but also to my many straight friends who have fought for me in the past. It didn't play up the homosexuality like so many movies have; it just WAS, and it is so refreshing to see.
I was never fortunate enough to see the show (no cash), but this movie brought it directly into my life, and I can't thank you all enough for that.
No day but today!

I could watch this a million times over and still end up in tears. I do want to say that the support group scenes moved me the most because they were made so reverently and with so much respect. So I never SAW Rent and never wanted to on stage. But I rented the DVD and am IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I keep asking all my friends, "why didn't you tell me about this??" And they are like, "Duh..." I am specifically in love with (i know, i know, i sound SOOOO cliche) ADAM PASCAL's HAIR!!!!!!! I just can't get over it. Everyone belts out wonderful songs and Roger and Mark being so close (and in real life Adam and Anthony being friends) and Idina and Taye and.... even though I'm not down with everything they did, I LOVE THE MOVIE and am a RENT HEAD BECAUSE OF IT NOW!!!!!!

Now that all of the Rent madness is over, I'm really really sad. I'm lucky to be able to hold both the original production and the movie version close to my heart, though. Anthony, if you're there, I just finished your autobiography, literally 15 minutes ago. Your book helped me out in a lot of ways-my mom died last October, and you seem to be one of the few people who understands what that's like. Thank you, Anthony.

I'm not sure if anyone actually reads these things but I need to say something thats been on my chest for some time now.
I would consider myself an official RENT-head. I have been blessed enough to see in person the musical on tour as well as the movie. I have the soundtracks to both as well. The words to each song and track seem to move me to tears almost every time I listen to them. I have personally experienced two deaths close to my own age and I'm only 18 years old,and every time I hear "No Day But Today" The words jump out and multiply their own volume by one hundred. I'm a Senior in highschool but I now understand what it means to spend each moment as their last because you truely don't know if you will live to see tomorow. Just like the Larson children I grew up in a world of Drama and theatre and I had my first speaking role at the age of 5 but this musical is differant than others. It actually speaks to me and I feel as if the people I see on stage are real. And in their own special way they are. I wanted to express my gratituide to the Larson family and thankyou for putting RENT on the big screen because now it can touch more people now that its not only a play.At this point in time I would like to say one thing to express how I feel......
Thankyou Johnathan Larson

Okay guys...im new to this and i need some help. I recently saw the movie and i have to say it was the most amazing thing i have ever seen in my entire life. I'm now a Renthead. totally in love with it. i have the movie, the soundtrack, everything and im going to see the play in 2 days! but...im just wondering if the play is going to be as good because im kinda partial to the characters from the movie. im not sure if i will like it is much, because i wonder if the people in the play will be as good as the movie cast. So...anyone who has seen the play and the movie can ya tell me what u think? thanks!!

Hey! I've been meaning to post in here since the day the DVD came out because I went to the store the instant it was out to buy it! I have been a fan since I first saw RENT on stage in Toronto when I was in Grade 11. I'm now 24 years old! I was in a Music Theatre program at my high school and as a class we went to see RENT at that time. I got the soundtrack shortly afterwards because I loved everything about RENT. It had moved me to tears.
I was a fan ever since and wished I could see it again. When I saw the preview for the movie on a DVD I litterally started to freak! I was screaming and jumping up and down! I saw the movie the day it came out and again a few weeks afterwards.
I also got the movie soundtrack.
I love everything about the movie and I'm highly impressed with the entire cast. I loved the documentary and cried as a watched it, especially the part when they talk about when Jonathan died. Very sad indeed. All in all I still love it!
Thank you Jonathan Larson and the entire cast!

hey, any chance of doing a video for "love heals?" and taye and idina should definitely do an album together; their voices sound great together. i still don't see why goodbye love was deleted, other than the start of the clip... oh well.
anthony, if you're reading this... i met you in philly during the book-signing -- my daughter madeline was in the picture we took -- i have to say that you are genuinely awesome. love to meet you again.

It's me again. I totally forgot to ask something else...I have the movie soundtrack and I was wondering where the song "Love Heals" came into play because I've never heard it in the movie or stage version at all?!
Posted by: Krystle on 03/31/06 at 10:45 AM
love heals is just a song by jonathan that the cast recorded as a bonus track. it's not part of the show or the movie. but i love it so much- it's so dynamic.

Thank you for clarifying Love Heals. I do love the song as well.
