I LOVE La Vie Boheme but my favorite scene/scenes are the ones with Idina and Tracie singing "Take me or Leave me" then again any scene with Idina is a good one and a favorite one.
Posted by: Natalie on 12/05/05 at 04:07 PM
I loved every scene in the movie. I think you guys are all awesome and you all did an excellent job with the movie. Idina you are my idol and Adam I think that you are really cute!

You guys are awesome. The video posts always make my day. =)
Thanks for everything!

wow..one of the first posters....gotta say i have now seen the movie 4 times and have a few more to go. My favorite scene is Roger's One Song..always my favorite moment...done perfectly in film as on stage. I have a thought that has been bugging me and want to know if anyone else has similar experience. I live in Youngstown, Ohio and NONE of our local papers have any ads for RENT...just the showtimes...we had reviews...just no ads..like a small 2x3 or something that you see of other movies...does anyone think that has to do with producers budget or my town is small minded......LOVED the movie...big RENT fan..first post...peace out all.

"La Vie Boheme" and the "Without You" montage for me. Undoubtedly. And the scene where Collins barges in the next morning, because Jesse L. Martin completely rocked it.
But "La Vie Boheme"? I'm going to watch it in the dollar theater with a friend when the place will be empty, and we're going to dance in the aisles like we'd always planned to. Because it is wrong to sit still for that song.

I was so moved by the Angel death scene and the funeral...just SO well done!
Question: Do you guys find it easier to evoke such intense emotions on stage or on film?
Thanks! ~Megan Leddy

I can see why you love the scenes you love. My friend just now, had a big 'Awww' moment during Wilson's part of the video.
Posted by: Aria on 12/05/05 at 04:16 PM
Wilson, you're right: corpses, DON'T talk. :p
I love hearing what your opinions on favourite scenes and songs and things like that are. I always wonder and I think it's fantastic that you're able to share this with us. Thank you. :D
Idina, your hair is gorgeous. <3
Taye, you seem have the BEST socks. I want the ones you're wearing in this!
Just for the record, my favourite scenes were Without You, I'll Cover You (Reprise), and La Vie Boheme. They are spectacular.

My two favorite scenes in the movie are "Tango: Maureen" because of how much fun it is and "Without You" because of how it was able to take us into mimi's struggles as well as angel's death with such depth and emotion. These scenes also are my favorites because they are two examples of how the film is able to do things that are not plausible in a live performance.
Thanks for the post...Keep them coming :)

It is so hard to pick one scene! Every scene is equally emotionally either in a good or a bad way. When Roger goes to Santa Fe and he Mark start singing "What You Own" I know what's coming next, but I'm still anxious for Roger to leave Santa Fe and go back to New York. I also really like the scene in the church because it's so powerful when Collins begins to sing by himself but then everyone joins him, it's like a metaphor about lonliness. He did lose Angel, but he isn't alone. Then when they go to the cememtery and the mood goes from sad and the audience is crying to all of a sudden Mimi and Tracie are angry at Roger and Maureen. I could go on and on about the rest of the movie, but I won't. The entire movie is just amazing. I love every single person in it. You are all simply perfect for the roles. : )

There are so many great scenes in this show and I would have to agree with Adam. A musical can connect with you in so many ways through the music. You're able to express feeling more freely with song and once you hear that music, you just tap into that emotion and moment almost instantly. Being a performer myself, I'm almost like Adam in that it doesn't take very much for me to get into a song or a certian emotion cuz when that music starts, I'm already there.
My favorite scene was La Vie Boheme just because it's a song about being different and not having to fit in with everyone. To express yourself through art, music, theatre, film and dance. It's a great song. Angel's Death, Your Eyes and Finale are up there too, just with all the emotion put into them and how as an audience member, you can feel it too.
You can't go wrong with RENT!

Awww, Angels hospital scence made me cry and especially with 'Without You' behind it. So did his funeral! 'One Song Glory' is definately an amazing song...I cant wait to see it again...this FRIDAY, yea! I dont know, I love all the songs, and all of you...you guys and girls blow my mind...Do you all enjoy watching the movie, or not? (since your in it?) *Krystal Marie

you guys are truly amazing so long since the movie came out and you are still posting
XOXOX to the whole cast AND crew I dont know what I'd do with out the blog!!! It is so amazing to be a part of the action every step of the way!
Posted by: E on 12/05/05 at 04:46 PM
I seen the movie three time already, and I have to agree, from the time angle enter into the hospital, my eyes started to water, and yes it was puffy by the time the show was over, the third time I guess I got use to it, but there were still a little bit of tears.
even thought the ratings wasn't that great, I have to say you guys did a beautiful job, and in my opinion you all deserve a award, especially Rosario & Jesse. And this is coming from a person who was NOT going to see the movie in the first place, the music and this blog gave me a very big push. Thank you all, Luv & Kisses

That was cool. I can't wait to see Goodbye Love on the DVD, that's one of my favorite recordings of Rosario. I'd have to agree with Wilson, on Angel's death scene being the most moving moment in the film, although I can imagine how awesome La Vie Boheme was.
Posted by: Coleman on 12/05/05 at 04:50 PM
Idina, you looked especially gorgeous in this one.
Adam, that is a fabulous shirt.
WILSON: I LOVE THE GLASSES, BABY <333

OMG I HEART RENT SO MUCH! the actors did such a good job and resemble the musical characters so well. Seeing the musical 3 times and after only being able to listen to the original soundtrack, i was estatic to found that a movie was coming out. i have seen the movie 4 times! 2 in two days! i heart mark!
Posted by: Kaihlyn on 12/05/05 at 04:57 PM
Has anyone else noticed that Rosario Dawson always cuts off Adam in these video blogs? Just thought I'd throw that out there... :-D
Posted by: mannie on 12/05/05 at 05:03 PM
I love the entire film! Anything with Adam gives me chills. But I love "Out Tonight,"Another Day," "La Vie Boheme","I'll Cover You Reprise", and "Your Eyes." All of them are truly amazing!
Posted by: Jessie on 12/05/05 at 05:05 PM
I love the song Goodbye love and when it was cut out i was kinda upset but I realized that it is ok so i can't wait for the DVD!!!
Posted by: Amanda M on 12/05/05 at 05:05 PM
I think that the funeral scene was awsome, and "light my candle" is always incredible...stage or screne!
Posted by: Amanda on 12/05/05 at 05:06 PM
I agree with every single one of you. (It is such a treat to hear your take on everything, let me tell you.) I wish they hadn't cut Goodbye Love, but I understand Chris Columbus's reasoning. I am intensely looking forward to seeing it on the DVD. Listening to that song makes me very sad. When Angel is dying in Collins's arms is when I started crying. From then on out, I was pretty much drowning in my tears. The funeral is amazingly shot and it just gets me every time. La Vie Boheme makes me want to cry out of happiness because when I see it, I am on the verge of bursting from happiness! It is such an powerful song with such an incredible message. I cannot stop thinking about this movie. I wish I could see it every single day. I cannot wait for the DVD to come out. I love when Rosario comes into the song in "Another Day" because her voice brings me to tears. It is a nice contrast to Adam's harsh tones in the song. She sing so sweetly. That song is beautifully done. The scene is beautifully done. The entire movie is beautifully done. The entire cast is beautiful. I really do love you guys. Thank you for everything that you have done. You have truly changed my life.

This was truly an amazing movie. Yes this may sound cheesy, but i felt like i was actually in the movie itself. My favorite scene would have to be either the "Cover You Reprise" scene or the "Finale B" scene because both were just emotionally moving and i liked the combination of songs in both. The songs combined in each scene brought so much more color to it =]i also loved "La Vie Boheme." It's just such a fun song.
Anthony, you're awesomeee, and that's it. Definitely my favorite of the characters.
Adam and Rosario, you guys played your parts SO well. Such good chemistry.
Jesse and Wilson: no words for how wonderful u guys were.
Everyone else, completely amazing.
I wish one day i could be as talented as all of you!

Tough one... no, not really ;) I'd definitely say that "Take Me Or Leave Me" is my favourite overall. Who can possibly resist Maureen & Joanne's awesome "sing-off"? The voices those two have- puts us all to shame! (I'm assuming there are other singers out there :) My second choice would OF COURSE be "La Vie Boheme", no need for an explanation there, I'd just be covering ground already walked on. And whoever said (in a post above somewhere) that "La Vie Boheme" is for singing & dancing along with, not just *sitting*, is SO right. Why the heck don't they have "sing-along" showings anywhere? They don't have 'em in Toronto, anyway. And that would be SO awesome! I'd pay double, if it meant not having to be stiffled. Which is what it's like watching it with a bunch or people who may or may not be as big a fan (my guess is *not*) and who would be wicked-pissed if I did that (and rest assured, I wouldn't miss a note, but that's little consolation I suppose). Anyway, all the songs are great. How cruel to make us choose!
BTW, thanks to all of the cast for posting your video blogs, all your little posts, and most of all, your love of *our* love of the show & the movie. What would we do without you guys to remind us of the many messages of "Rent"?
Posted by: Alicia on 12/05/05 at 05:23 PM
I think it is so hard to pick a favorite scene in this movie. I loved "Take Me or Leave Me" and the "I'll Cover You Reprise." Everyone in the theater was bawling when Angel died (I mean all you heard were sniffles and blubbering). It was pretty crushing. It was horribly sad in the theater, but watching her die on screen was 10 billion times worse.
All I can say is that the movie is so ridiculously amazing that waiting for the DVD to come out is going to kill me with anitisipation! Simple incredible!!! :)
Posted by: Megan on 12/05/05 at 05:27 PM
I can't think of a moment during either time i saw the movie that i wasn't crying for like the last half hour, wilson, you got me every single time...and everyone, wow! whenever i hear, i'll cover you (reprise) i can't help but cry, but i love it, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and everything. take care.
peace,

My favorite scene was Out Tonight because it's my favorite song from the play and Rosario's dancing was incredible. The Without You montage was so incredibly emotional, was was I'll Cover You reprise and Your Eyes. I bawled quite loudly in the theater, and I knew what was coming! Well I loved the entire movie, and I want the DVD to come out so I can have it forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS--whenever I listen to La Vie Boheme I pretend our huge couch is a table in the Life Cafe and I sing everybody's parts and pretend there's an audience...i'll stop now....
Posted by: Nick on 12/05/05 at 05:32 PM
This was one of my favorite blogs so far. I love how tight-knit you all are, and how apparent it is even when you're just talking about each other.
And Taye -- way to go. I would be so jealous if I wasn't allowed to dance and sing during La Vie Boheme. Amazing that you can sit back and look disgruntled as Benny and yet still thoroughly enjoy yourself. :D

One of the few times a broadway show makes a successful leap to the screen and this one is fabulous. Just saw it for the second time - the la vie boheme scene is spectular - the choreography perfect. Before seeing the movie Adam was my favoirte - love his voice on my Rent and Aida CD's, but each member of this cast played their part so beautifully there are no favorites. Can't wait to see it again.
Posted by: maureen on 12/05/05 at 05:41 PM
Wilson and Jesse i totally agree with you when Angel died in Collins arms i was crying like no other. My boyfriend was trying to say something so that i would stop he was trying to make me laugh by saying stuff like stop before you dehydrate yourself.
you guys r amazing actors you bring so much emotion to the screen i mean when you are so happy like singing I'll cover you (the happy one not the one at the funeral) i was like smiling and being all happy and then you took the same song at the funeral and brought a whole new side to it.
<3 Mel
you guys r u so inspirational wow is all i can say (i am gonna go before i start crying now)
Posted by: Melissa on 12/05/05 at 05:41 PM
After seeing the movie several times, I'll Cover You has become one of my favorite songs to listen to because it's so joyful, yet heartbreaking because i can hear the reprise at the same time. Thanks for posting these blogs!

My fav scene was La vie Bohem, you guys r sooo inspiring and amazing. I'm wondering if u could give us tips on how to keep your voice strong. You all can hit those high notes that seem imposable. I joined late because i didn't know about RENT until I saw the movie. But, keep posting blogs because we don't want it to end.

Anthony, you're hot. Great movie, "La Vie Boheme" is the best.
Posted by: Lia on 12/05/05 at 05:47 PM
AWWWW! Wilson, I totally agree with you. Watching Jesse hold you in his arms as you were dying was very moving and heartbreaking. So sad. I cired and got chills. Also, I think that was so sweet how you had to use all your energy to hold back your tears in that scene. I love you Wilson and Jesse. Taye and Rosario, I agree with you. "La Vie Boheme" was a wonderful, joyful scene that I absolutely love. Shooting that scene for over a week must have been very fun. Adam and Rosario, "Your Eyes" is definitely a heartbreaker. And of course "I'll Cover You Reprise" was a very moving and emotional scene. So sad. I cried and got chills again. I could go on and on about every scene in the movie. They were all so amazing. RENT is INCREDIBLE. Rosario, Adam, Wilson, Jesse, Anthony, Idina, Tracie, and Taye: I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Please keep posting these great clips. They are the highlight of my day. I learn so much from the cast!
XOXOXO,
Ashley M.

Awwww, Wilson! I almost cried watching this clip, just because it reminds me of the actual death scene :-( Aww, and that sucks that it was his last day shooting! How sweet are he and Jesse. SO SWEET. Love you guys. And La Vie Boheme is of course a great scene too.

YES!
I loooove this blog! I saw the movie again this past weekend and I loved it just as much.
Every single scene touches me in a completely different way. One may make me extremely happy (LA VIE BOHEME) while others make me uncontrolably heart-broken (WITHOUT YOU), and others just surge through my body as so many different emotions (I'LL COVER YOU (REPRISE), Finale B). Each song and scene has its own amazing mood and each one contributes so much. OVER THE MOON makes me want to jump up and sing along with Idina. TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME makes me want to jump on a pool table and scream all of my feelings at another person. WHAT YOU OWN makes me want to hug Roger and Mark. TODAY 4 U just makes me want to grab some drumsticks and do some flips.
You are all so amazing and I love you. I love everything about the show and movie. You make me cry, laugh, smile, shiver, dance, and sing. I CANNOT thank you enough. Love you all so so so much. Thank you so much again.
LOVE LOVE LOVE

There must be something wrong with me. I LOVE the movie and I've seen it (to date) five times, (I plan on increasing that number), and I don't know why this is, but as touching as the Without You montage is, after the second time I couldn't cry, by the third time I saw the movie I felt that I should be crying and I coudln't do it, and I thought wow, that's sad, these actors are doing amazing work and it's all really powerful, and I couldn't cry, and I WANTED to, I knew I SHOULD be crying and yet, no tears. Sad, just no tears, so I didn't understand that. Anyway sorry for the babbling. I think all the scenes are amazing, if I had to pick one of my favorites, I 'd have t o say when Maureen and Joanne are at the Engagement Reception. I love that they have a sing off. AMAZING job ladies, and an AMAZING job done by everyone else! I wish you all many more years of continued success and happiness!
Love,

All of you are amazing actors/actresses with amazing talent. This movie has immediately become my FAVORITE. I'm too young and live on the exact opposite side of the country to have seen the OBC doing their thing ten years ago, but if I had the chance, I swear I would have been a RENThead back in the day. This beautiful movie with its incredible soundtrack has made me a RENThead for life... and Adam Pascal's #1 fan ;) I'm so glad blogs are still being put on this site. Nothing else in this life, that I've found, has or can MOVE me in the same way. You guys seem so sincere and involved with your characters. You become them!!
Since before I saw the travelling Company perform in my city in 1998, I've been listening to the music and believing in the statements made from this ridiculously OUTSTANDING production.
From seeing the musical in theaters and not being able to make out their facial emotions from the 12th balcony (exaggeration), to almost being inside one of Adam Pascal's sweat glands (again, exaggeration) in "Your Eyes" in the movie, seeing these two perspectives has created this overwhelming connection with a message made by a man who can't even comment on its success; a connection and feeling that I've never felt before. (I'm sure I'm not alone in that.)
Example, I was singing the "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" IN MY HEAD today, and I pictured Rosario's look to the ceiling at the end of the funeral. A tear fell. I wasn't even watching the movie or listening to the song and I felt so grievous, that a tear fell from my eye. The same thing happened when I was singing "Goodbye Love" from the musical in my head, which I wish was in the movie, but even before the movie came out, this song makes my cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. I can't understand it.
WORDS just can't do justice for how this makes me feel. I hope to find a family that makes me feel just as hard and just as honestly. Thanks again!!

You all made such excellent points. I would definitely agree with all of you, and the one thing I would add was the scene one part of the montage during Without You that took place at the Life Support meeting. Obviously, for those involved in the scene, it couldn't have been difficult to shoot. You laughed. You looked weak, but hapy. But watching that scene in the theater when everyone started to fade was just SUCH a powerful moment for me. It was beautiful, and I'm so glad it was in the film.
I love this blog, I don't want it to end! This is my only connection inside your world, and I cherish it very, very much. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. They really brighten up my day.

wow, seriously I was all choked up when Angel was dying in the hospital.. and on the subway :( Also, when Jesse sang the reprise of Ill Cover you, wow! You guys are so good at reaching out and touching the audience. but yeah the best scene was when Angel and Collins sing Ill Cover You together, it is SOOOO cute! Aside to Ill Cover You, the energy of La Vie Bohem was awesome and made me sing and dance like a fool in the middle of the movie theatre.
I Love You Guys so much!

Oh yeah IDINA! I love the Prada dress you wore at the NYC premiere!!! It was soooo beautiful and you looked beautiful in it! Good choice!
Idina's #1 Fan (the real one)
Posted by: Grace Chiang on 12/05/05 at 07:34 PM
My favorite scene:
Adam's - Glory (I absolutly loved this song and how it was shot)
Mimi's - Light my candle (I mean, come on, double aww.) Out Tonight
Maureen's - *duh* take me or leave me (I love Idina, she's just amazing)
Joanne - At the cemetary when she and Maureen make up (She seemed so powerful, and her words were so meaningful)
Collin's - Santa Fe (I don't know, I just simply love this scene)
Angel's - Today 4 U (I love Wilson. He's adorable)
Mark's - What you own (*tear* love that song)
Yet again, I must reiderate, I love this movie, and the La vie boheme scene - classic. It fit so well in the movie of rebellion and acception. <3
*This movie has turned all of my "emo-i-only-listen-to-sad-music" or "punk-i-only-listen-to-hardcore-stuff" friends into closet broadway lovers. Congratulations... You've converted yet another generation into rentheads. :)

The Entire Movie was so AMAZING!!! It is hard to choose just one favorite scene. If I had to, I'd either pick "La Vie Boheme," "Take Me or Leave Me," or "Your Eyes/Finale B." I must admit I just loved the way the movie ended (with Mark's film and Angel). I would not have ended it any other way.

I'd have to say it's...hard to choose. There's so many wonderful parts! However, I'd have to say that my top five favorite scenes are (In order): Today 4 U; La Vie Boheme; The Without You montage; Angel's funeral; and Take Me Or Leave Me.
Also, I just wanted to say how much I loved Wilson in this movie. You were just so energetic, and you re-cemented Angel as my favorite RENT character (not that it needed any reinforcement!). Your voice is absolutely gorgeous, and you made my mother cry both times we went to see RENT thus far. Love ya!

The funeral scene was beautiful. The Reprise is an incredible song and continues to move me no matter how many times I've heard it. However, I have to say, I think my favorite scenes are Life Support and Will I. They really touched my heart.

Idina you kick ass.
Enough said.
But I'll continue ANYWAY... because I can, hahah. La Vie Boheme & the .... commitment/proposal thing were definitley my favorite scenes.
& also the Seasons of Love reprise thats just the video of footage of friends - it actually inspired me to take out that old movie making CD that I've never even tried & I actually made a whole music video of Seasons of Love with video & pictures of our street [we all grew up together & were all in high school/graduated now] to give to my best friend for Christmas & I've never tried to make a movie before - I showed my whole family & 2 of my family members literally have me asking to make them one personalized for a 100$, I'm getting really into it and thanks to RENT for all I know I could be finding out what I wanna do for the rest of my life!
I love you guys!

Jesse - the "I'll Cover You Reprise" makes me cry every time that I see it or even hear it. You play the part so well and you have such a great voice that just completely makes the song perfect, you make it the most beautiful love song I have ever heard.
Thank you, to the entire RENT cast, for doing these blogs for your fans! You can be sure that we appreciate them!

My faves would have to be "Tango: Maureen" how fun is that!! I love hearing "Mark" saying "f*****"...I don't know why. Also of course like everyone else "La Vie Boheme". I can't help but dance when I hear that song, doesn't matter where I am. The cemetary scene is probably one of my faves too. Tracie, Rosario, Idina, and Adam do such a terrific job in that scene...they make their emotions so visible, their frustration, their love for each other, and their pain. And any scene Tracie is singing in...her voice absolutely amazes me. LOVED THE MOVIE AND THE CAST! You guys are phenomenal.

I have been a nurse since before anyone knew about AIDS. And now I am involved with AIDS research, and I just wanted to say that Wilson, your death was so accurate and well done and I am glad that so many more people will see this movie and hopefully join the fight against this awful disease so that in another 10 years there may be a cure!!! Jesse I understand how you feel about this scene because I was crying too!! My two other favorite scenes were at the Life Cafe and "Take Me or Leave Me" since when I was much younger I was in those two rooms at Christmas, my chuch choir was asked to perform for the family's small 250 person Christmas Eve party, what an amazing place.
Love you all and thank you so much for all you have done to keep your fans happy.
You have made my holidays very Merry!!!
Peace,
Tori

I actually cried during "I'll Cover You", the second time I saw the movie just because Angel and Collins looked so happy together (I've never cried tears of joy)...I also cried at the very end of the movie, when it showed Angel's profile...I think it just proved that there are still ways to find life in loss, and it really helped to strenghthen and reiterate the point of "No Day But Today!".

RENT – FROM THE DEEP SOUTH:
I didn’t know the story. What I did know was that through my LA and NY satellite waves, I caught a melody, beautiful in its tone and harmony, but mostly, when you hear the words, in its intrinsic simplicity. After seeing brief eclipses of the tale and listening closer each time, I had to learn the story behind the song.
I’m thankful that I had no preconceptions, that I had no original to compare it to or to critique it against. For me, every scene was fresh, unexpected and poignant. The scene in the alley where Angel tells Collins he has AIDS and is countered with “me too”, was inexpressibly heartrending and I was immediately emotionally involved. The story is beautifully tragic and multi-layered with characters in which we can all find a piece of ourselves. We’ve all longed for love, understanding and friendship, wished to be loved and to believe we’ve meant something of value to someone else. It was easy to find myself envious of the family they created amongst themselves and people wait a lifetime for a love like that between Angel and Collins.
I appreciated that the movie wasn’t made to look like a play on film as you might expect of an adaptation, but rather to reflect real places, real life. The story became less a movie and more an experience.
Sadly, no matter how significant I believe the story to be, many places here in southern Georgia won’t carry the movie and those who have are closing it down swiftly because people simply won’t go. I feel sorry for how small their worlds must be. I know that some of the local churches of forbid seeing the film but I think it’s such an important piece of art, that they left me with only one solution…I’ve partnered with a professor at one of the local colleges and bribed, blackmailed if you must, some Political Science classes that have been the scene of many heated discussions on these very topics. I offered to pay for them all to see the movie and as an incentive they can drop the test of their choice before finals next week. All they have to do is go, whatever it takes to get them outside of their box. I hope on Thursday they put me in debt, but I know the odds are more probable that I’ll have to join the witness protection program to avoid the great southern Baptist parents and pastors. At least if they’re offended, I’ll know they saw it and it’s impossible for anyone to come away from this film with nothing.

Ahaha who ever said the scene where Collins comes home in the morninig....*SPOILER ALERT*
"Merry Christmas Bitches!"
AHAHAHAHAHAHA....Perfect comic relief and such a great line...but in all seriousness, I think "Out Tonight" was one of my faves cuz oh my god when Rosario comes walking up the fire escape stairs and just starts singing to Roger...er..Adam, gawwwddd! So so hott...I just picture meeee...haha also Another Day, Take Me Or Leave Me, hell all the songs are the best scenes EVER! The whole movie kicks ass, I have only seen it twice and no one else I know wants to go see it with me...I kinda live in a Christian, narrow road community...blah. I was also SO sad to see they cut out the end of "Goodbye Love" Rosario's solo is the best part! CAN'T WAIT for the DVD! Hope everyone who works on the movie is as proud of this movie as we are, good job! Oh and Adam, as people have so numerously pointed out, you are so very very fine...owwwwww!!=0P

I've been a rent fan for a little over 6 years now. I've only seen one stage performance, which was on my 15th birthday, and it was a sunday mat. in NC, so the cast had sort of tamed down parts of the show (i.e. maureen mooning the audience). That show is pretty fuzzy in my head now, so I've basically been experiencing rent through the OBC recording. When I first heard about a movie version, I was very nervous. Phantom of the Opera didn't translate well, it felt awkward. The only "Rock Opera" I'd ever seen filmed was Jesus Christ Superstar, which was okay, but it was the 70's and everyone was a little more free-spirited back then. I guess I just didn't think rent would work on the big screen, and with such a fan base imagining everything they've wanted to see, and in such specific terms, you know? The script leaked on the internet and I read it and thought "that will never work! what are they thinking?!? it'll be ruined!"
And I was so wrong. My mom took me to see it, just like she did 6 years ago, and we agreed that it was perfect. Not that you need our approval, you know, but it was. Everything that was taken out was understandable. Everything that might have been added or tweaked made sense. In fact, my favorite scene is the montage of Angel fading. This show is about love, and people, and acceptance, and it's also about AIDS awareness. It's not meant to be a public service announcement, but I always thought that the show left something to be desired. Of course Collins singing the "I'll Cover You" (reprise) is always heart wrenching and beautiful, but in the film, showing the lesions, and the death, and the pain, it said "this is AIDS. don't you see?" In the show it was more like "this is death and grief," but in the movie, whether it was intentional or not, it really illustrated something I hope affects mainstream america when they see it.
I don't know. Overall I think this film did more than justice to the original show. I'm so happy that most of the original cast, these voices that I've heard for years, put their faces and bodies into a sort of eternal log...again. Without them, I don't know if it would have been as powerful; my friend said that this was better than any stage performance that she's seen, and she thought that was because most of the actors had a chance to learn what Jonathan Larson really wanted. I don't know how true that is, but whatever that something factor was, it worked.
Also, I loved watching both Tracie Thomas and Jesse L. Martin during the whole film. Both of you sort of had this glint in your eyes, like you were just too ecstatic to be there. Really, watching these actors just made me love the movie that much more.
I don't know. It was just relly relly gud.
Really. Thank you.

I always love coming home from school and seeing the new videos
They make me so happy! I love wathcing them and seeing what all of you think!
I've seen the movie twice..and i LOVE it!... Favourite scene is "Your Eyes/Finale"
Does anyone know where i can get a picture of Angel--at the VERY end of the movie.. in the slide-show??
Posted by: Stephen on 12/05/05 at 08:51 PM
"La Vie Boheme!"
The performances just burst off of the screen
and wanted to make you get out of your seat!!
"What You Own"
Was amazing... thanks Anthony and Adam.
Of course "I'll Cover You" and it's reprise were
some high points with Jesse and Wilson, and
then Jesse and the Cast doing some brilliant
vocals.
Idina and Tracie squaring off in "Take Me or Leave Me" was a treat, and Rosario brought
an edge and beauty to 'Mimi's' songs esp. the
moments with Adam.
Thank you all for giving us such a gift.
This movie is wonderful on so many levels.
Not only Jonathan Larson's beautiful
lyrics and music, but the entire libretto/script
is something that is as important now as the
stage version was when it first hit.
I'm a teacher and have encouraged my students
to see it, which many have. At the second
showing (of several!) I attended, a local area High School was there with a bus load of students!
How is that for awareness and allowing youth
to patronize great theater?
Again...to the cast and crew... thank you!!!!

Wow, I have to say that I loved all of you in the film. I cried so hard when Angel died, Wilson J, you play that part so well and I hated to see that part come but it was very well done. I think that everyone I was with thought I was alittle insane at how emotional I got at that part of the movie. I would have to say I enjoyed how the death was shown because it really impacted me and stuck with me. Were as in the stage play Angel is just kinda gone and you don't relize whats going on untill shortly before it is over. Again I say thank you all for caring so much about your fans and doing so much to let us in on went pre-release and post release.

Dude. I never saw RENT, never had any contact with the play or movement til this movie. And wow, it rocked my socks. I am seriously OBSESSED with it. All my friends think I'm nuts. I just want to say good job with the movie. The songs are gorgeous... goooorgeous. Being a musician and singer myself, I find myself completely awestruck with the entire project. Wow. Thanks so much for everything. Peace.

One of the best blogs. Loved that one, like all the others. I agree with all of you...and La Vie Boheme was DEFINITELY one of my favorite scenes. Everything thats in it, you get out from the screen, and I was tapping my feet and nodding at every word the characters were singing and wanting to get up and dance...it's such a wonderful, powerful scene, and you get so caught up in it. And I can just imagine the depths you had to go to, for those weeks of doing the really emotional ones...people don't realize just how much it actually takes, but wow, let me tell you - it was worth it, because "Without You" and "I'll Cover You" (Reprise) and the Finale and "Your Eyes" and those ones - they were really, really gripping. It made me ache inside. What I loved was that every single song, whether it was "Rent" or "Life Support", was so intense, in their own respective ways. And I could go on and on so I'd better cut myself off here...thanks so much for this blog!

Thank you Wilson, Taye, Idina, Jesse, Anthony, Adam, Rosario, and last but certianly not least Tracie for pouring your hearts and souls into this movie. I think it's very rare in Hollywood today to have a cast as dedicated and truly talented as the eight of you are.
For someone who was too young and on the wrong coast to have seen the original Broadway production, it makes the movie that much more exceptional.
As a new fan, I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to fall in love with Rent.

AWWWWW wilson that was so sweet! and funny ("we all know corpses don't cry...")
love the glasses - are those the pussy galore glasses?? LOL
It was really nice to see everyone talk about how they bonded and all.
Hee Taye you always have the greatest outfits. = P On the other hand, Adam, what's up w/ your shirt?? lol
Anthony, I love how you say "finale" lol. "Fin-ah-lee" - so cute.
But aww why'd this video get cut off at the end?

Wow, what a job you guys have done. Hats off to all of you. I have already seen the movie three times and will continue to see it again and again and again. I have been a huge Idina fan forever and I am dying to know what her next project is because heart brokenly I found out today that her newest project has ended! :( would love for her to make a return to wicked for a hot minute!! Anyway all the best to all of you in the future! I feel like you are my friends and I love you all! What a dork I am huh! IDINA you are my hero!

wonderful blog :).. i really did love all the scnees. My favorites were La Vie Boheme, I'll Cover You: Reprise, Finale B, out tonight, and without you.. to me without you has always been the saddest song in the show and this song completely destroyed me in the theaters. It was done very well. LOVE YOU ALL, off to school I go <3.

The scenes all around Angel's death were so moving and though they were the saddest parts, I think they are my favorites, because they are so sweet, and so well done. Great job! It was especially nice for me to watch because I have never been able to see the actual Rent production, but have heard the soundtrack more times than I can count. Question: what scenes were the 'easiest' or 'hardest' to shoot, from your perspective for any reason?
Thanks,
Laura

Angel's death scene and the funeral ...I cried so much during both that it drained me...I was so moved by them.
Favorite upbeat scene...Light my candle..that it was funny too
Adam and Rosario looked so cute together

I have to say that I don't have ONE favorite scene. But I love to watch the Life Cafe scene. It's hard to pick just one but the one scene where I lost all composure was right at the end of the Without You montage where you see Angel in Collins arms and you hear for a brief second Collins crying. I saw so many people in my life that I have unfortunatly lost in that scene. I have seen the movie five times and lose it there everytime. Wilson and Jessie you are great and you had me for the start. Another scene that was just great was when Jessie sang I'll Cover you (Reprise) Boy you sang your heart out to the point where I lost my breath for a second when you hit that high note at the end. This movie and play is so moving no matter what venue you see it in. I cried during the play and I lost it during the movie!!! You Are all very talented at what you do- the movie for me has made RENT as a whole come full circle for me you have made me a true believer in the power of love and friendship overcoming all obstacles. I thank you for that
Keep doing what your doing
I love you all

My fav scene was within the "Without You" montage when Mimi is dancing at the Cat Scratch club and the look on her face is pure DEAD-ness. It's an amazing scene because she's so full of life in her previous Cat Scratch scene---
Never saw the play--have gone four times to see the movie!
Posted by: Michele on 12/06/05 at 07:03 AM
Squirting tears! LOL Rosario. Personally, I loved Tango Maureen. LOOOOOVED it. Especially since it gave the dance-challenged actors a chance to show their stuff.
Thanks for STILL providing these videos even though the movie is already out. I can't get enough!

Thank you so much for sharing. These blogs always make my day. Idina, I have to agree with you on the "Glory" scenes, which Adam - were incredible. I knew the movie would be genuine as soon as "Seasons of Love" opened and fell right into "Rent". You guys are amazing. Muah.

As far as my favorite scenes go, I like La Vie Boheme for all the energy, One Song Glory for the music and the accompanying shots that go with it, and most poignantly Without You as it shows the struggles of Mimi and Roger while bringing all the friends together over Angel and Collins, no matter the differences they are having at the time.
Posted by: Megan M. on 12/06/05 at 09:03 AM
Went to see this first with one of my friends. After One Song, I was sold. Then, after Another Day and La Vie Boheme I was left with no choice but to see it again and again. The second time, my friends and I mooed with Idina and we shouted at random intervals during La Vie Boheme. There was clapping after most of the songs (except after Angel's funeral, where there was solemn silence and anyone caught clapping was given an evil glare.)
The entire movie is amazing and La Vie Boheme is practically our anthem now. We have done impromptu versions of it (difficult with only five people) after school on the picnic tables to the great horror and amusement of various bypassers.
VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!!!

Yes...I was very excited for RENT to come out and it was amazing to see. I absolutely love Anthony Rapp! and Rosario Dawson. The cast was amazing. "Seasons of love" still remains in my head from the first night I saw it. Amazing, simply amazing.

I thought the entire movie was fabulous, but some standouts include Take Me As I Am and La Vie Bohome!!! Also, I really enjoyed The Tango: Maureen and Out Tonight.

Just like picking a favorite song, it's very hard to pick a favorite scene. I would say my favorite is "La Vie Boheme" for the energy. I also love how Anthony moves during the slow paced part at the end.
I also REALLY love Angel's funeral because of the extreme emotions. Jesse sounds so great and his eyes show so much heartbreak.
Posted by: Oberon on 12/06/05 at 11:14 AM
WILSON: That was probably my least favorite scene. I have seen it 3 times and everyone can tell you that I cried hysterically. I took a tissue pack to the movie the third time, and even after seeing it twice before, I used the whole thing. I love you so much. Too much for words. I wished you a happy birthday on Friday but I'm gonna do it again. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY! My birthday was yesterday GO SAGITTARIUS!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. Will you please please please marry me? You are so adorable. Much Much much love:

Great to hear about your favorite scenes everyone. It looks like "I'll Cover You (Reprise" and "La Vie Boheme" are the most popular ones for you guys. I don't blame you. :D
Posted by: Jasmine on 12/06/05 at 01:42 PM
The movie was AMAZING!! I couldn`t stop crying during al the emotional scences- like 'Your Eyes' 'Goodbye Love' 'I`ll cover you- Reprise' 'Will I...' and 'Glory' gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it and when I see it *sigh* *shiver* *OMG!!* 'LA VIE BOHEME' and 'What You Own' are FUNN!! 'Tango Maureen' is soo cool! The 'Finale' is very.. moving.. and touching.. I LOVE HOW AMAZING ADAM IS!!
When Roger is driving home on the Bus (From S.F.) and he is writing 'Your Eyes' the notebook paper has her eyes and sort-of profile... and I just loved it!! EVERYTHING WAS SOOO AMAZING!!
Love you all,
<3 Melissa
PS: GO JONATHAN LARSON!!

I'm so happy that you're still posting blogs! I hope they never run out, though that's a naive wish. You guys constantly point out angles of things that I never saw before, and Jesse's thing about Angel dying gave me the shivers.
It also makes me want to go out and watch the movie again. Unfortunatly I have next to no time to see it! But I've already seen it 3 times.
Posted by: Eva on 12/06/05 at 02:03 PM
Video posts's are amazing!
Wilson - great choice. It would be really hard to listen to Jesse's crying and not to cry with him. It was a very big learning experience for me to see that scene. I have never seen anything like that, and I can't imagine situations like that happening in real life.
Jesse - It was very emotional to watch that. To take your smile throughout the entire movie, then have this sadness throughout Angel's death was heartbreaking.
Tracie - The funeral was an amazing scene. It seems like it would be a hard shoot, especially for a long period of time. It must have been difficult to keep your emotions on and off.
Idina - I remember reading about Glory from Anthony Rapp on bww. I was so excited to see it, and it was different than the subtleness of the show version, but it told us a lot through images and words.
Taye - You should have sung La Vie Boheme with them! haha, it completely wouldn't have fit with the storyline. I bet it was harder to see and I bet you wanted to jump up. Have you ever sung La ve boheme for an audience before?
Anthony - Everyone did an amazing well job during Finale & Your Eyes. It must have been hard to just sit there and watch it, but it also must have been quite an experience. I also loved how they zoomed onto your face after Roger & Mimi leave the Life Cafe when he finds she also has to take "AZT", your expression!
Adam - I'll Cover You (Reprise) was such a sad song. I love how it incorporates a few of the songs in the show itself. I loved Your Eyes. It made me cry, it was very moving. Your Eyes has always been the song I've thought was most emotional, and it was portrayed very well onscreen.
Rosario - I loved your expressions in La Vie Boheme. You had an expression of so much fun throughout the entire song, so it is easy to detect your joy. The great thing about that scene is that every time you see the movie, you see something new in that scene.
Posted by: Joyce on 12/06/05 at 02:09 PM
I also love Tango: Maureen. I think that is an awesome scene. While I loved the stage version but making it into a dream sequence with Maureen dancing flirting and stuff was a really good concept. I love seen Idina dance like that. She looked so beautiful in that red dress. So to whomever came up with the dance dream sequence KUDOS to you.

Rent ownnnns. So does Tracie Thoms & Idina Menzel. Even before the movie came out i KNEW i was going to fall in love with Tracie, I'd already fallen with Idina haha. I absoutely love the "Take Me or Leave Me" scene. I think Tracie REALLY lets go in that scene & just gives it her ALL. & in that point of the movie you really see whats going on and you get to see weather their relationship will make it or break it. of course, it makes it<33 Well yeaaaa iheartrent. Wilson, you are right, corpses don't talk, or cry or anything and I'm lovin` the glasses babaaay<3

i love the scenes that any, or all of you were in. i love every song and every moment. that would be every singled gosh darn scene in the entire film. i loveeeee all the songs.
i do love me some "good bye love" though. i sang that for my call back for bye bye birdie. lol bye bye birdies not that intense, but i decided to showcase my acting ability as well. i definetly comiserate with the tears squirting thing. lol its so much fun though to be crying like a crazy person, breaking into a thousand emotional pieces, finish-and then the director saying; "great thats perfect, thanks" so you hop off the stage and are perfectly fine. it is only high school though, so i suck.
i love everything RENT, asking me to choose a favorite song is like asking me to choose which limb to keep. yeah i know, weird, but to me, its that important!!! love you guys!!!xoxoxox

I know that I already posted a comment, but I just have to add another one. I listen to the whole soundtrack every day and every timie Without You comes on I can't stop thinking about those scenes in the movie. I guess then that would mean that it's my favorite scene, but you can't really pick a favorite. I think that every scene in the movie is good.
Luv you all
P.S. My study hall teacher asked me to stop listening to RENT music on my i-pod because every time I listen to it I cry

Oh, god, there's nowhere to start. Thank you for bringing the great emotion and excitement that is RENT even closer now with this incredible movie. And soon enough, we'll all be able to buy Rent on dvd and take it into our homes, watching it and marveling over it countless times. Closer to heart and closer to home, like it should be. Watching you all preform, seeing it this up close, it makes it feel almost like you're there too, infact some of my friends and I plan to go see it again in theatres (for the 185353295th time by then) closer to when it'll stop playing, planning a time when hopefully no one will be there so we can dance around the theater and sing along with you all. Rosario and Tracie, you're not newcomers anymore, you've earned your rightful place in RENTdom by blowing all of our minds with your performances. Rosario, the way you portray Mimi it's just so easy to identify with you. There aren't words for how much your performance spoke to me. and Tracie, wow can you sing. Thanks for representing us Rentheads and screaming and jumping around just a little louder. Just, all of you. Taye, Adam, Anthony, Idina, Jesse, Wilson, Rosario, Tracie, you guys freaking give me the chills. If you're reading this, You should be very proud and I love you all for what you've given to me and so many other people, and that's hope. THANK YOU for this magnificient gift that is Rent. It's impossible to put this all into words, I can't do it justice. I LOVE YOU!

I loved the whole movie but my favorite scene was either the "Your Eyes" scene or the "Another Day" scene. Adam is SUPER HOTT!!!
Posted by: Emmie on 12/06/05 at 07:30 PM
OMG on the favorite part seriously how do you choose? I loved I'll Cover You because it's just about the sweetest love song ever and gosh Wilson and Jesse are great!!! I would have to agree with Wilson too. The part where Jesse was holding him on the train and then in the hospital had to be the saddest scenes in the movie and I think about the time I started crying to begin with.... Hmm. Great movie guys... couldn't have asked for anything better. Not going to lie, I'm in love. :)

It's so hard to pick a favorite! I've seen the movie 3 times now and it changes everytime. La Vie Boheme definitely looks fun, and Take me or Leave me is great, such a strong song, and every time I see the other friends running after Maureen and Joanne I just crack up.
Wilson, I hadn't even thought how hard it must be to pretend to be dead and have to be perfectly still and not cry, I have sympathetic tear ducts so I imagine that's really hard to do.
I just wanted to say it's so cool you guys are doing the blog and are keeping it up even after the movie has been released. This was my first time seeing Rent (although my friend plays the soundtrack all the time so I was pretty familiar with it before) and it really touched me. It was very personal for me, because even though I haven't known anyone with AIDS, my dad has been dealing with cancer and the repercussions for the past 13 years (more than half my life) and his motto truly has been "no day but today," so I really felt it on a personal level. It's cool that the message has a broad range and so many people can empathize with it. Thanks for doing the movie, it turned out great!

My favorite?Has to be when words RENT comes on the screen and the first note is played....and everyone is lined up on stage-I get goose bumps because I know the next 2 hours and 15 minute will be pure BLISS!Keep the videos and blogs going....

I am not sure if this is where this goes but I had to post this somewhere or I was going to go nuts. I love each and everyone of you. And not just your characters, you guys seem like the best bunch of people and I would love to hang with you guys sometime. Not that that's possible but it would be ultra sweet. I saw Rent on stage about five years ago. I was absolutely blown away. I bought the soundtrack and haven't stopped listening to it since. To see you guys huge on the big screen. WOW! WOE! WOW! I had a huge grin on my face the entire time. Except when I was sobbing. So, you all are unbelievable. Jesse, your smile brightens my day. Anthony, I can't wait to buy your book. Rosario, I knew you had it in you. Tracie, you were a wonderful addition. Taye, great as always. Idina, you are beautiful. Adam, I will see you in my dreams! To all of you thank you sooo much for doing this.

Just wanted to say that this movie is SO AWESOME!!! I've never seen a broadway play before but now I wish I had seen Rent and Wicked--It came to Houston, but I didnt see it...really wish I would have. The cast--ya'll did an amazing job! This movie made me love musicals!
Posted by: Krista on 12/06/05 at 10:24 PM
The cast is brilliant. Every gesture, touch, look... felt completely genuine. I adore the entire film and I feel it will become an instrumental tool in helping to dissolve the ignorance that is plaguing our society and preventing many communities from enjoying basic civil rights.
Thank you Tracie, Idina, Wilson, Anthony, Adam, Jesse, Rosario, and Chris. I do not have enough words to express my appreciation to all of you.
With Pride & Love

To Broadway Cast: (It's Ok Tracie and Rosario, You guys are still number one in my book.)
I was looking at the old CD cover and everyone looks so young especially Idina. I love it. It is so wonderful that when I talk to peopel about the movie, they are so enthuzed about it and they say they love it and want to go see it over and over again. It is really great because I have been saying this for years and now other people can experience and love this musical the same as I have for years. It is really special that now everyone can share that experience of falling in love with this wonderful musical and I can fall in love with it all over again.
Love, Peace, and Thank God this moment's not the last!

La Vie Boheme! I have to dance when I hear it ...so I would just like to say sorry to my friend because I danced like a crazy person though the whole song. Take me or leave was my favorite scene on stage along with Tango Maureen but I love everything about Rent so its really all my favorite.
Question for Tracie: Just wondering what your next project was?
P.s.I love this blog!!!
Thanks~ashton

Wilson- I'm afraid corpses don't cry, but if even my MOM cried at that scene, I know how much it gets to people.
Poor Taye never gets to jump up on the table and dance. One day I think Benny has to just start dancing and then realize "Oops, father-in-law, must be professional."
Posted by: Bethy on 12/08/05 at 01:40 PM
Yay! You posted more! Awesome! My two favorite scenes are La Vie Boheme and I'll Cover You Reprise. Taye your socks are awesome!

Wow, the passion from each actor and all of these fans is really amazing. I'm so impressed with every number in this movie. --Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thomas, we never would've guessed you hadn't been there from the beginning. On screen each performance comes across so honest. I didn't know the story before (I had heard several of the songs so I had an idea)and as I started to learn the story of "Rent" and how it came to be I was so moved. Everything from the creation, and the tragedy, to such a great run on broadway, to this outstanding film --it's a beatiful story all together. Thank you for sharing such arresting material so honestly. I have never even READ one of these things before! I had no idea what a "blog" was until today, but I have been so moved by the message of this show and I know so many people who are catching the "Rent" bug. Can't think of a better one to catch, especially this time of year. Thank you!

Wow, I don't think that I could pick a favorite scene, they are all so amazing.
But the dancer in me wants to say Tango Maureen, because of the big tango scene.. and Anthony's little dance. Or when Adam is singing Glory on the rooftops. It made me cry a little bit.. and by a little bit I mean a lot. It was beautifully done.
La Vie Boheme.. well done. There is so much energy in it, I love that one too. Ok, so I can't pick a scene!
All my love,
Sara Corkum

I have to say that before I went to see the movie, I thought it wasn't going to stand up to the greatness of the show. But I was very very wrong. I would have to say my favorite scenes of the movie are Tango:Maureen, Life Support, La Vie Boheme, Take Me Or Leave Me, I'll Cover You (Reprise), What You Own, and the Finale. ooo wait, I was also a big fan of Over The Moon. It wasn't as good as the version in the show but it was funny as usual and I loved the tvs in back of Idina. and of course everyone did an awsome job. much love to all the other rent-heads out there. <3
Posted by: Mary on 12/11/05 at 11:52 AM
Honestly while I do love the La Vie Boheme scene, my favorite is near the end of the movie when they show the life support meeting and characters start to fade out as Angel just looks weaker and weaker, not the most uplifting of course but still my favorite.
Posted by: Liz on 12/11/05 at 03:54 PM
i loved every scene, of course... but One Song Glory and What You Own definitely hit home for me. :)
Posted by: ir!sh on 12/11/05 at 04:11 PM
What can you say about this movie?? This is by far the best movie I have ever seen. I've seen it 3 times and still want to see it again and again and that rarely happens with movies today. When I compared the broadway version of the songs and the modern versions I love how nothing was changed. It proves that it is a timeless classic. It's definetly a crime to have to sit down during "out tonight" and La Vie Boheme" I can't wait for the DVD!!!!!<333 :)
Posted by: Lauren on 12/11/05 at 07:10 PM
La Vie Boheme kicked ASS!!!!! This movie changed our lives! All of the actors in this movie are sooo talented.....Adam, you're hot! Chelsey likes your hair long, but Larissa preferred in short! Love you guys and the movie!!!
Posted by: Larissa and Chelsey on 12/12/05 at 12:21 PM
La vie boheme and light my candle have to be the best songs/ scenes. The chemistry between Roger and Mimi was so cute, even if Rosario cuts off Adam every time in the video blogs... but we love her anyway

I absolutely loved the stage production, and now am obsessed with the movie! Personally, one of my favorite parts was "Santa Fe" on the bus. That was a cool scene. As for everyone being in love with Adam and thinking he's soooooo hot, all i have to say is....Hello! What about Jesse Martin? Wow! He has always been sexy on Law & Order, but something about seeing him in a completely new light just...He's SEXY!!!
Posted by: magnolia on 12/14/05 at 07:14 AM
I love watching these videos. It makes me so happy to hear what the actors and actresses from the movie think. I personally love the Out Tonight scene, I think that's my favorite along with the Life Support. They are both great scenes, but then again all of them are. The singing in this movie inspires me, and it's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, and the best singing/songs I have ever heard.

the movie was so amazing i love it so much and i listen to the soundtrack all the time! i loved la vie boheme
Posted by: jenn on 12/15/05 at 06:04 PM
my favorite scenes are diff. the one in the resturant after maurine"s protest when they sing "La Vie Boheme" and omg that line that idina says as tracie and her kiss, "her mister, we're sister" ahh classic. One of those lines taht u never forget! And i love the song that tracie and idina sing at their engagement party "Take me or leave me". Its acutaly been on repeat on my ipod for like a month staight. I can sing every single trill with you guys now! But actaulyl every scence adds something else to the movie and makes it so great. RENT is without a doubt the BEST FREAKIN MOVIE OF ALL TIME! You guys better get an emmy or something, cuz ive never felt so pasionatly about ne thing in my life. Im like obssesed with this movie! I've seen 6 times and counting! The soundtrack is in constant play and the day the movie comes out on DVD i will have it! I love you uys you are all so amazing! Since wathcing you guys perfom, my life has never been the same!

but i have to say Rent is the best movie i have ever seen! Absoluteley unbelieveably incredable! The songs were so amazing and so moving....i can't even explain. It was so sad, too....but the lyrics and plot of the movie was so great. Everyone has such amazing voices, too. wow, everyone in the cast was so fabulous and did such a great job in their role. i bought the soundtrak and there is a song called Haloween on it and i think that should have been in the movie!
i can't go on forever....

I heard about "rent" four years ago when my best friend went to see it in Tulsa, OK. He came back telling me all about how moved he was. Seeing how it affected him made me curious, but I honestly forgot about it until I saw the trailer on a DVD for another movie earlier this summer. From the first notes of "Seasons of Love" I knew I HAD to see the movie when it came out Nov. 23 (the day after my wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary). Anyway, we both went to see it and I haven't been the same since. Not a day goes by that I don't listen to the soundtrack on the computer (I was going to buy it, but the Wal-Mart here doesn't have it). I can't pick a favorite scene because the entire film blows me away. Still, "I'll Cover You" and its reprise along with "Without You" and "Will I?" all move me to tears...I started bawling this afternoon just thinking about Angel and Collins' relationship. All I can say is "Thank God for Jonathan Larson, Chris Columbus, Taye, Idina, Jesse, Wilson, Mark, Adam, Rosario and Tracie!" Can't wait to get the DVD when it comes out! "No Day But Today."
Posted by: Edwin on 12/16/05 at 01:41 PM
Rent is by far the best musical ever written, and the best movie ever made. My favorite scene has to be The Tango: Maureen, or La Vie Boheme (I love them all, it's too hard to choose). Mark is my favorite character. Rent is awesome, and has changed my life. You guys are all awesome, espically Anthony.
No day but today.

My favorite, for happieness, is La Vie Boheme, it's so energetic and everyone is involved in it. Another favorite, for saddness, is Without You. So many things happen in this song, you see Collins holding a shivering Angel on the subway, you see Mimi get sick, you see everyone in the hospital with Angel and Mimi doing her nails, and last you see Angel die in Collins arms, I cried so hard. You guys are such great actors.

I was in chorus and drama all four years in high school. And in my sophomore year, my drama teacher introduced me to one of her favorite cds, Rent. I loved musicals so I was overjoyed. And I have been hooked since. I was thrilled when I saw the trailer in the summer and had talked about going to see it, even getting my boyfriend to sing along with the cd that I have since bought.
I have never cried so much during a movie as I did when I saw Rent. I ended up seeing it three times before the theaters around me stopped showing it.
"Light My Candle, Today 4 You, La Vie Boheme, What You Own, and Take Me Or Leave Me" are songs I sing at work. Traci, I absolutely adore your voice!
Thank you, everyone, for this wonderful movie.

yes!! i loved "La Vie Boheme"!! it was so fun and exciting, and like how Rosario said the celebratory aspect of the song just makes it fun, because it does!! i loved the blog, and i think what everyone said about their favorite scene, all the comments made on them, really shows in the movie. . .
~when angel dies in collins arms, it truly does make you want to cry. you can feel the love, sadness, and passion this relationship had and it was a very emotional scene, even for me. (i think i shed a tear, and i dont cry in movies-but this one. . .) but enough about me, what you guys had to go through during that scene-i respect you.
~the funeral scene, where "I'll cover you (reprise)" is sung, is SO emotional. you really, truly feel the emotion, and tensity in the scene. TRULY!
~Roger singing, "One song Glory" on the roof top was amazingly done. when it flashes back you can see where Roger is coming from (his past) and you kind of just go through watching the scene like, i wish i could be there and comfort you. all the pain you must have felt (in/for the movie), we felt.
~the whole "La Vie Boheme" was such a great scene!! there's so much to say about the scene that you cant even put it into words how TRULY AMAZING it really is. i honestly loved the way Rosario put it, in the whole celebratory aspect of it. all the lines you hear in the song really are amazing. "To being an us for once, insted of a them." "To people living with, living with, living with, not dieing from disease." "That he amoung us without sin, be the first to condem, La Vie Boheme!" and SO MANY MORE! just all the joy really comes out in the song, and you kind of just have to stop yourself from yelling out them lines, or standing up and dancing, or just whatever, because it's so joyful, and you feel the joy! it was an amazing scene!!
~the scene with "Finale B" and "Your Eyes"-OH! i almost started balling/crying!! its so amazing, the passion and love-oh, this scene was so sad, and just amazingly full of passion!! i honestly dont know how to put it into words. . .
~thank you all!!! it cant be said enough, but thank you, thank you, thank you-five hundred, twenty-five thousand, six hundred times over again and again!! THANK YOU!
~Karli M~

Loved the video, twas nice to hear what you guys thought about the scenes. Can't say some of us Rentheads were a little worried about the movie, glad to know Idina was too, haha. It doesn't make us feel so stupid, or at least, my friends and I think that.
Anyway, this is completely irrelevant but how do you say reprise? I heard how Adam and Rosario said it but I always assumed it was pronounced re-prize. I want to be a Production Stage Manager on Broadway some day =D and don't feel like sounding stupid if I can't even say reprise. Haha. =P

WITHOUT YOU---the film shows the reality of mimi's life that could not be done on stage, her life of dancing with men giving her money and her withdrawals.
And of course the scene and energy of La Vie Boheme.
Will you light my candle---awesome....
No day but today.

I LOVE RENT SO MUCH! When I first heard of it I didn't think I would like it. But now, well I have to have the music playing as much as possible. My favorite scene would have to be "Take Me or Leave Me". I loved everything else just as much, but I love that and my friend and I have to sing to it when we hear it, even if it maens getting yelled at. But I was mad that our local theatre only had RENt in for such a short time. I only had time to see it once. *tear tear*. Well enough of my rambling. I LOVE RENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~Idina~
I just want to say 1st of all, you were absolutely mind blowing as Elphaba in Wicked. I got all my friends to go out & see it and they all felt the same. I've seen Rent four times and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I memorized the words to every song and I think all of my family and friends are going to kill me for never shutting up. Idina, you are truly a magnificent performer and I have idolized you ever since I first saw you in Rent back in '96. As a performer myself, I only dream of someday acheiving half of what you have managed to achieve in your career thus far. Best of luck to Idina and the rest of the cast. I think you're all outstanding!
Your Fan, Sandra

This is one of the best films I have seen in my lifetime. I cannot believe why it was so short lived in the theatres. I can't find anywhere near to see it again....How about a re release before the DVD. It deserves so much more attention.

OMG! I am obsessed with Rent! I CAN NOT wait for it to come out on DVD. I seriously can't go a day without listening to the soundtrack for at least 1 hour. I balled my eyes out in the movie when Angel died :`( ! He was so awesome! And I don't have a favourite scene or song because I adore all of the songs and I really didn't want the movie to ever end. It was weird because I didn't know a thing about Rent before I saw the movie but I had a friend from a play I was in and she saw a live performance of Rent and she had the CD and I realllly liked the songs! I bought the soundtrack before I saw the movie and I saw it the Friday after it came out, I wanted to go on the Wednesday buuuuut I had homework. So yeah, best movie of all time, can't wait for DVD! Bye! XxOo ♥ ♥

To pick one scene is a task to great for me, however, one of my absolute favorite scenes is when Angel fins Collins on the street. i don't know why, it just stuck with me for some reason. i've seen the film 8 times. and i'm going to see the musical itself in february. i've never been so anxious for something in my mere 15 years of living. Rent is my obsession, and inspiration. I'm attending an art school for musical theatre and i try and compete with the cast of Rents performance to better my own. funny huh?

I always do that down the hall in my house and humiliate myself haha :P. All the scenes were my favourite but I'll only mention one for now, don't let me get started about other scenes now...

Wilson when you died in Jesse's arms I cried so much. I was crying the rest of the movie because you weren't in it. You are such a wonderful actor, and you have a great voice. I loved your character, and you did it well! Bravo!

Well, I personally don't have a favorite scene in the movie. You probably expect me to say that I love the whole movie, but thats just not the case. In fact, I haven't even seen the movie. But I have heard the soundtrack...about 75 times in the past week. I first heard some of the music on Christmas day and I thought it was the wierdest thing ever. Then about a week ago I listened to it again. I Loved It! I don't know what to do with myself. I think I have a small obsesion for this movie. I've done everything..gotten the soundtrack, searched for clips on the internet, and now im here. If anything, I know I'm not going to be able to last until Febuary to see this movie. Well, I just want to say Bravo and I am a huge fan, and I haven't even seen the movie yet! Well, I can't wait to buy the movie. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into the production.

Some friends and I are doing Seasons Of Love for our school's talent show as well. By the way my favorite guy charachter is Roger and favorite girl charachter was Mimi.Thank you Johnathan Larson for bringing RENT to life.

heyy, it's your biggest fan again!!!
*my favorite scene from RENT when i first saw it was "Today for you, tomorrow for me" because i love ANGEL, but after i got done crying when ANGEL died, all i wanted to do was know he was ok or at least see him again in the movie, and because that doesn't exacly happen that way, my favorite part was at the end when MIMI saw ANGEL and "she looked good," that made me feel so happy!!! i was crying my eyes out and at the same time, laughing as a sign of relief!! it made me feel so good that ANGEL was ok!!!
i absolutley loved that part! i loved that ANGEL was ok, and i also loved that they showed the documentary at the end too, it made the movie all come together and my favorite part of that documentary was when they showed ANGEL at the end...
NO DAY BUT TODAY!!!
love

I've never written in a blog before, but I just wanted to share this. I saw RENT in NC several years ago, but somehow didn't get what all the fuss was about. I rented the movie last week, and now I get it!!! I have been quietly obsessed with it, and I can't stop singing, humming and whistling its songs! I've been late for work every day this week because I have to hear Seasons of Love and Take Me or Leave Me before I leave the house. I'll be buying the DVD and soundtrack tonight. No one talks about the Seasons song - it's possibly the most beautiful song there is. Tracie Thoms' solo in it is just so amazing (love Jesse's solo, too!) And the Take Me song is incredibly fun and well done. Thanks to everyone in the film for the fantastic performances you all did. Anyway, I am now an official renthead, and I can hardly wait until the play comes back to NC! I might just have to take a road trip up to Broadway for the real deal.
