I love the dedication and all, but wouldnt it have been better if you placed it at the end of the actual film after fading out on the video clip of Angel. at the movie theaters nobody stays till the end of the credits so it makes sense that many people dont know about this dedication.

thank you for this film

thank you jonathan *loves*

How cool! I'm going to have to stay for all the credits next time!

I did not know about the plaque that is made for every theatrical production of RENT, but I did know that at the performance done at Jonathan's memorial, someone yelled that out from the crowd.

So, thank you, Chris! It was very fitting to put that in the closing credits. It was a perfect closure to a wonderful film.

It's really great that they put in a dedication to him, but it should have been earlier in film so that more people would see it. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but it has that quote inside the pamphlet of the soundtrack CD on the first page. THANK YOU JONATHAN LARSON

Posted by: Jessica on 12/12/05 at 11:17 AM

I stay till the very end of the movie, when I knwo I'm not rushed for time, and I've seen it show up, and I thought that was such a cool thing. I didn't know about the stage performances though.

Thank you to Chris Columbus for making this film and for keeping it so real, and thank you to Jonathon Larson for giving us such a memorable piece of work and thank you to the cast and crew who dedicated themselves to this project.

Love,
Alexandra

Jonathan Larson was an amazing person. I was watching this Broadway thing on PBS last night and one of the shows was about RENT and it showed video of Jonathan's last day at the Moondance. I love how his family made a memorial by giving money to young play rights to get there plays running. :( You all are wonderful people!

Love always

Stephanie L.G.

Thank you Jonathan for making me a different person!

Well, I guess I'll stay past the end. I'm not sure I can see anything through my tears tho. Jonathan's message is such a strong and powerful and important one, it's fantastic you were able to help it along. Thank you.

AWWWW! A dedication plaque to Johnathon Larson....that is very cool. A perfect ending for a perfect film. Next time I see the movie I'll have to look for that. Johnathon Larson would be so happy and proud of RENT's continuous growing success. Thank you Chris for making the film. Thank you Johnathon Larson.

XOXO,

Thanks to a gracious actor, who shall remain anonymous, I was able to spend some quiet time with The Plaque, backstage, during on of the tours. I believe Jon's uncle carved it. It's a very heartfelt homage to the stage production, that you've included the connection in the credits to The Plaque. Thanks.

Posted by: Richard on 12/12/05 at 12:08 PM

That's really cool that that's at the end of the credits, but I agree. I think that it would be better to put it right after Angel at the end of the movie.

Thank you Jonathon.

It was sooooo perfect.

Awww, that's wonderful. That was all I could say when the movie was over, no joke.

Posted by: Jasmine on 12/12/05 at 01:57 PM

That was one of the most touching parts of the movie for me.. I became an AIDS activist as soon as I learned what AIDS was. because I grew up (since the age of 3) listening to RENT and Mr.J Larson just made everything sooo clear to me. You know, he writes about people living with- living with- not dying from disease and love and caring, and how the most underestimated people not only make the best of friends but are always there for you. I mean, it just lets you see how lucky you are and how you should spread your happiness and give it to those in need. I realize now- that the movies come out and that I REALLY thought about it... I owe alot of what I do for the community to Jonathan Larson- whos sincere efforts to help the world.. as he and millions of others struggled with this epidemic, will always be important to me- and I`ll always keep them to heart.
Once I saw the last credit I remember muttering it under my breath over and over and over again. I thanked him and Adam Pascal- (dont ask) and that one credit gave me a new sense of pride and love towards Chris Columbus and the cast of Rent who I have loved and been in back of 100% since- forever!
I mean think about it my fellow RENTHEADS!! What would we be without the magnificent man behind the curtain? Who would have told us that we`re not alone in America at the End of the Millenium? Or to 'VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!!'? When I`m upset I play RENT usually an upbeat or REALLY depressing/ sweet/ sad, song... Your Eyes- La Vie Boheme- OUT TONIGHT!! (meow) and to think he had friends like that! Who cared for him so- but who wouldn`t have I mean if he was anything like his music he must of been the most wonderful man in the world!
So:
ACT UP!! FIGHT AIDS!!
and thank you, Jonathan Larson.

Love, Melissa<3

Yes, as soon as I did see this at the end of the credits, I was bawling...again. I cried at the beginning because I was so excited. I cried at Life Support because...well, it's life support, and Will I? is just amazing. I cried during Without You and I'll Cover You Reprise, and I also cried at the end during Mark's film and when we see Angel fading away. I basically was like, empty of tears after that week, and plus so many other things happened during that week that I cried for.....it was crazy.

Thank you Jonathan Larson.

Thank you, Jonathan Larson. you have changed my life.

Erg! I have seen it three times and I didn't stay until the end. Now I am angry.

But that is sooooooooooo sweet. I wish we RENTheads could thank Jonathon Larson. None of us would be the freaks(and I mean "freak in the BEST possible way)we are today without Jonathon pouring out his heart and soul to give to us in an explosion of an absolutely incredible and amazing show. Seriously, being a RENThead or just a simple fan means you are truly not alone and if you have seen the show or movie, you are in the presents of amazing talent and amazing heart. I wish so much that I could thank Jonathon for the amazing gift he has given us. I wish he knew how many people he has touched over these past ten or so years. In some way, however, he does. Thank you Jonathon Larson.

That is the mark of a great movie... and a great cast crew director and writer and I just love it so much

Chris:

I meant so much to me, as well as the rest of the RENTheads I'm sure, that you put that there. I think it is very important to give him the credit he deserves for this spectacular musical. I thank you for thanking him and for making this movie and showing it to the world outside of the theatre community. So thank you, Chris. I would like to also thank the cast for doing this because they made the movie a million times better.

Thank you Jonathan Larson!

I've seen the movie 7 times so far and everytime my friends and I stay all the way through to the end credits so we can sing along with Seasons of Love and I'll Cover You and we clap and cheer realllly loudly when the "Thank You, Jonathon Larson" part comes.

Posted by: Jenny on 12/12/05 at 07:25 PM

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate this site. I've been reading for a couple weeks without posting anything, and I thought tonight I'd finally try it.

I'm relatively new to RENT. Okay...*very* new. I'm a singer, and I've wanted my whole life to pursue a career in entertainment, but I didn't really start getting into Broadway until college. I started accumulating as many Broadway soundtracks as I could. I burned a bunch of them from my town's public library. RENT was one of them, though I never really listened to it much. But in September of this year, I was in a production at my unversity called "Broadway Revue," and we performed "Seasons of Love." I was already familiar with the song, so I started listening to the rest of the soundtrack and absolutely fell in love. And then I found out it was coming out as a movie, and I was so excited!

About a week and a half after the release, I saw the movie with my sister, and was immediately in love forever. It's such an inspiration and such a strong, amazing message. And I could use a million more adjectives to describe it, but they're unnecessary because I know you all know exactly what I mean.

Anyway, this is long, so I just wanted to say that I appreciate this site so much because not a lot of my friends really understand why I love this musical. I go to a very conservative Christian university, so most people can't see past the drugs and homosexuality, and refuse to give it a chance. So this site is great because I can connect with other people who HAVE looked past those things to understand the incredible message of love and acceptance that RENT portrays.

Thank you to the dedicated cast, crew, and fans who helped make Jonathan Larson's amazing vision become a reality, and I hope that someday I can be in a production even half as powerful as RENT.

Again, very sorry this is so long!

Posted by: Tabitha on 12/12/05 at 07:51 PM

I actually think that it is quite fitting that you waited unitl the end of the credits to put the dedication. I think because the film means so much I found myself breathless by the end and it was nice to just sit and let the music and credits wash over me and then have this very fitting conclusion to top off the entire experience. After all, that's what it all boils down to; gratitude to Jonathan for the amaizng gift he bestowed upon our generation.
all my love,
Shira

Posted by: Shira on 12/12/05 at 09:46 PM

I alway stay thru the credits and did see this and when it came up I said Thank You Jonathan Larson out loud! Now this gives RENTheads who have not stayed to the end to go and see it AGAIN!!!!P.S. Where are the ads for RENT in the Newspaper movie section???Why are they missing so soon?

Posted by: Ann on 12/12/05 at 09:52 PM

Stupid Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I can't believe Rent wasn't recognized as a nominee. Mr. Columbus I would like to thank you for all your hard work and dedication on this film. I personally recognize it as "Outstanding" and nominate you as "most awesome director ever." The cast gets a nod from me as well for "Best Ensemble Ever to be Put Together on Screen." I'm seriously considering writing a letter to the HFPA, anyone care to join?

Thank you again,

Dear All,

this is Luca from Treviso-Italy. I'm sorry for my English. I want to tell thank you for this musical. It's wonderful. I'm a little singer and every time I want sing for amusing myself I sing this song. Thank you Jhonatan for all. God bless you in the sky. Please let me know when this movie will be here in Italy.
Thanks
Luca

Posted by: luca on 12/13/05 at 10:32 AM

it actually started with anthony rapp on the day after when they started without him its just morphed itself into that I agree that the globes made a BIG miss step but lets remember they probably agreed with ebert WHO DOES BELONG TO THE NOM COMMITEE

Posted by: kirk on 12/13/05 at 12:20 PM

Yes, I'm fully aware of the Jonathan plaque at the Nederlander. And I think it's great that you put that in the movie!

Posted by: Rachel on 12/13/05 at 05:12 PM

everytime i go see the movie (tonight will be my 4th time..) i stay during the credits. mainly to recover from crying so much. My friends and i always sing and dance to seasons of love at the end so we always see the "plaque" in the movie. Its just a feel-good thing to do because i just love the fact that when people go see the movie, they will know that jonathan larson is the reason they are all in a room and it maybe the first and maybe the only way they can see his work. so the fact that they kept that element in makes me happy :)

Posted by: *~Canadia~* on 12/13/05 at 05:43 PM

That is so Wonderful of you to give recognition where it is deserved. Thank you so much Chris, the Larson family, and the Cast for this amazing movie and this very important aspect (RENT) of my life.

Love and Thanks to All, Lindsey

I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE STAYED... but i people i was with were ready to go. I like that you put it at the end. I love it, cause its kinda like the secret songs on cds. Its a surprise that one day you just catch! Definately will have to stay till the end next time... no more rushing people!

Posted by: Katrina on 12/15/05 at 09:27 AM

That's so sweet, and it's the perfect gesture...of course, without Jonathan, this would be literally nothing.

I ALMOST stayed till the end, I stayed through most of the credits...but now I'm definitely going to stay till the end =D

And I'll say with you, Thank you Jonathan Larson.

Much love,

Posted by: Joyce on 12/17/05 at 07:42 AM

Ok so i definately stayed through all the credits and it said: "thank you Jonathon Larson" in like white lettering on a black screen and that was it. Is that what I waited through the credits for??? I'm sooo confused...why didn't we see it???

Posted by: Amanda on 12/17/05 at 12:39 PM

I too am confused- i stayed until the very end to see what they said about Jonathon, and my friends and i saw nothing ! ????

Posted by: suzanne on 12/22/05 at 10:40 PM

Hi, I went to see the movie with my wife and 18yr old and 12 yr old sons. We were all crying at one time or another. Being form NYC and having lived in the village at that same time period...and regrettably not living there now...made me soooooo miss my home of NYC. The greatest city in the world. We all saw the play together as well but the movie was truly incredible and just want to thank you for the experience.
Peace,
Artie

I became aware of Rent when I went and saw it the previews for it and in the theatres'. I was in awe basically. I couldn't believe how real a film could ever be. I bought the soundtrack a week ago today and I haven't stop listening to it since. With every song, I am brought back to that moment in the movie and remember excatly what is happening. Thank you Chris Columbus for making this movie so real. Thank you to all of the cast who brought each character to life and made their preformance amazing. And last but not least Thank You Jonathan Larson for creating Rent and being so honest with everything that made this movie so real and what it is. It really does define a generation.

I've seen this movie 3 times so far and have turned other people on to it, including my daughter (24) and my mother (76). All 3 of us have the CD, which we play probably too much! Great film, great story, great music. Of course, we're waiting for the DVD to come out. I hope this film will get the credit it deserves when more people see it.
