Great replies! I love the candidness of everyone's answers. I personally never got to see the original cast on Broadway, so for me, I was incredibly excited to see that most of you were cast for the movie. It also seems that Rosario and Tracie fit right in. So far, I've only seen the movie twice, but it has quickly become one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. You all did a tremendous job and I can't wait for the DVD to be released!

That was awesome, i've always wondered that too!! Wilson that is so funny, I could picture myself doing something like that, right in the middle of the highway hahaha, so cute! Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts guys, it's really very interesting to me to hear what you all react like to certain events, your thoughts and everything, thanks again.
peace and love,

These updates are the highlight of my day. I tell you, I cannot get the songs out of my head. Nor do I want to. Last night I was trying to go to sleep and I had to force my mind to stop singing the songs so I could get to sleep. All day at school, I was inwardly singing those songs. I cannot wait to see the movie again. I cannot wait until Rent comes out on DVD. I know it just came out in theaters, but the day it comes out on DVD will be one of the best days of my life. On that day, I will be able to watch Rent over and over and over again. I can't wait. I praised Rent to all of my friends and to my teachers as well. You really are an inspirational cast. Thank you and I love you.

That was hands down my favorite blog thus far. It was definitely the most personal, and in some ways really comforting to hear the fears, joys and shock of the cast.
Thanks all!

Taye - I was very impressed with the final product, too!
Rosario - I'm so glad you remembered to drive cafefully...the movie wouldnt have been the same if you had gotten into in accident! Yay for driving skills! :)
Tracie - you should scream with even more joy now since everyone I've spoken to or heard of absolutely LOVED your performace. Your voice is overwhelmingly beautiful.

OMG You guys!! The movie was amazing!!!
I loved it.
I saw the Touring Cast last March when it came to my city, so I was a bit scared about seeing the movie and having it disappoint me... but IT WAS AMAZING
You guys are all great, and I seriously hope to b up on that stage someday... Thank you so much!!!

Wilson, you are so cute. It's really easy to imagine you doing something like that. I rewinded that part multiple times.
I really like your sideburns.
K, also, this reminds me of something. (Somehow.) You were smoking in one of the previous video blogs... DID YOU QUIT YET? :)
Lotsoflove,
A ridiculously big fan of Wilson
Posted by: Natalie on 11/28/05 at 05:47 PM
Wow...
You guys amaze me... truly. I mean, could a cast of eight ridiculously talented people be any more adorable and down-to-earth?
I don't think it's possible.
I've seen the movie twice and plan on continuing to go until every single one of my friends have seen it...
But, may I say that when I went in, I was most excited just to see some of the Broadway greats on the movie screen. About ten minutes into the movie, it stopped being about the fact that I knew of your reputations on stage and I was truly engulfed into the lives of these crazy, wonderful characters. You have done your job well and should be sooo proud of the product.
All of my friends have been listening to my music and finally realize why it is I love Rent...
Man, I can't get over how great you all are...
Here's to hoping I get to see more of all of you, because not a single one of you disappointed me. (Not that I expected you to!)
Oh, and Idina doesn't get to be a pessimist... no one that talented should ever think negatively!
Posted by: Rebecca on 11/28/05 at 05:47 PM
LOL WILSON!!!! Adam don't worry this had made your "legacy" even greater, you're such a great actor you should do other movies....I mean really you stand out! So do you Wilson lol I love you soo much!!! Al of you but Wilson's my babe hee hee

Adam- well you're def. not part of a flop! I read it was the number 5 movie..not that to shabby! and your not remembered as being in the 'bad' movie because it was fantabulous! and I'm so glad you picked door number 2!!
Tracie- you soooooo deserved this role...gosh i your amazing!!! i can't believe you walked 40 blocks!?!?!? did you hurt afterwards? your first blog was the best! I will always remember "how the hell i got here"!!!
Idina- OK first can YOU walk in NYC in a daze? i figured someone would be screaming your name within the first few seconds of your walk!? haha anyways...how the hec can you be a pessimist, gosh you have way to much talent to be one you should have been like "please i got this role" haha I couldn't have seen anyone else as Maureen
Jesse- SO GLAD LAW AND ORDER LET YOU DO THIS!!! you have an amazing voice! your amazing! so multi talented!!
Wilson- god i love you! wow! no one else could have played angle the way you did...you were ridiculously good!! i cried all 6 times i saw the movie!! SO TALENTED!

I saw the musical 4 times (i don't live in New York or i would have seen it more) and i didn't have the privilege of seeing all of you guys and girls so this was a real treat! thank you so much for all doing this. You guys... I love how candid these little blog entries are. Rosario, I'm so glad you got this role. You are such an amazing Mimi, I don't know how anyone could have done better. Tracie... you're just so cute. :) Wilson, I loved your reaction. "AHH, AHH, AHH- and scene." Classic. XD I am so glad that all of you got to do this project even though some of you were skeptical. The final product is really beautiful. It really brings out what Rent is about: family, hope and love.
Love from a true believer here in K'bunk, Maine, Jill

I think it's great that we can hear your reactions to you getting the part. I'm really glad you guys were happy that you got the parts we see you play in the movie though a bit skeptic.
Posted by: Aria on 11/28/05 at 06:18 PM
Thank god you all are in Rent. You made a great movie!! Walked 40 blocks...wow... I wanna scream with you guys! "AHHHH!!YEAH!!!" "I LOVE RENT!!!"
Posted by: Kelli on 11/28/05 at 06:18 PM
Wilson, I can't believe you used the "end scene" jesture. Honey, some of us trying to make sure that jesture says in Drama history. But considering you did an amazing job (oscar nom, who knows cause you deserved the Tony and you derserve an Oscar nom), I'll forgive you.
Saw the movie twice and you guys had the audience crying. And I betta see ya'll in other movies. Casting Agencies would be stupid not to grab you guys cause ya'll killed it. And as for what the critics say, they need to realize that all movies don't have to be serious or completely fufilling. Your audience loved it, I loved it and just know that the kids of NYC and Ithaca College are all for you guys!!! One love!
Posted by: ashley on 11/28/05 at 06:25 PM
I love you all. so much. <3 I'm so impressed with how down-to-earth you all are! It's so nice to hear how happy/shocked/dazed that you got the roles, even if 6 of you originated them. It's nice to hear :D YOU'RE HUMAN ZOMG!!!!111 XD
Rosario - I'm so glad you got to do this. You really deserved the role, I think.
Adam - :D I'm sure you know that all the fans were worried about Rent being a flop as well, so we're all behind you with that.
Tracie - You crack me up. I was not a big fan of Joanne until I saw you do it and you are one of my favorite actors, now. :) Great job. And 40 blocks? wow. Well...I'm not one to talk...ahahahah.
Idina - Good to hear you won't be a pessimist anyomore <3
Jesse - Hurrah! Law & Order has my love now, for letting you do it. (not that it didn't before, but...well, more now. ;D)
Wilson - AHAHAHAA. Amazing! You are amazing.
Anthony - You seem like the calmest one so far :D And on a plane, wow. (I'll have you know, I almost typed "Mark" because I was absolutely floored at your preformance. Of course, I expected it to be great, but you were PHENONMENAL.)
Taye - Nice socks. (no really. I like them) XD It's good to hear that you sounded out the job before you took it. :D
fantastic job. can't wait for the DVD :)

rosario - you were absolutely amazing in the movie. i felt like i could connect with mimi and that i knew her on a friendly level. i'm extremely happy that they selected you for the cast for this incredible movie.
idina - wow, you were incredible. you brought such a personality to maureen and it was such a pleasure watching you on screen. you are so talented, and i hope you continue to grow as an actress.
adam - i have to say, you truly brought roger to life. i don't think they could have casted anyone better to act as roger for rent, and i was in awe during the movie. you are truly amazing and so down-to-earth. i loved you in the movie, and think that you're blessed with talent. amazing job, adam!
anthony - you showed mark as full of emotion, and made us feel as though we actually knew mark. we could relate to him and his struggles, and you acted brilliantly. there is no one out there who could have done a better job than you!
jesse - wonderful. after 2 movie viewings i know that i couldn't imagine anyone else playing collins. you have an amazing voice and amazing gift!
tracie - the expectation for you was high, but you surpassed any expectation. you filled the character of joanne wonderfully. congratulations on a successful performance!
taye - excellent job with benny! you did a great job in the movie, i was impressed!
wilson - oh, i loved you in the movie! angel was exactly how i imaged she would be, you were incredible!
you guys are AMAZING. i'm only sorry i haven't been presented with the opportunity to see Rent on stage, but i plan on seeing it when the chance comes.
keep up the amazing work.

WOW! That movie was fantastic! I liked it a lot better than the actual Broadway show, because it could go a lot more places. RENT is now my favorite movie of all time! You guys were great!
Posted by: Vanessa on 11/28/05 at 06:53 PM
I don't have a specific comment for this blog, but I just wanted to comment on the movie. I don't think that this movie could have been more true to the show. I have been waiting for this movie ever sense there were speculations of Spike Lee doing it. I dont think anyone could have done it as well as Chris Columbus. The first time I saw it I was crying throughout the whole thing, 1 because i was actually seeing the movie Rent! 2 it brought back so many memories of seeing the show and listning to the soundtrack 3 it moved me. I dont think that words can adequetly describe this film. Breathless! Thank you all so much!

You were all amazing in the movie!!!!! I'm so happy that you were all cast!

You all did an amazing job. I hope you're all glad with the final product, I sure am. I've never touched anything RENT before the release night of the movie, and now I wish I did.
I've seen it twice since release night, and it gets better each time. You guys rock.
Rosario - You said you were 'excited' 3 times in a matter of 45 seconds but who cares? I would've been too :)
Adam - Perfectly natural to be nervous about something this big. It came out a masterpiece, don't worry :)
Tracie - Having people stare at you because of your belts of profanity and flailing arms is obvious, heh, but who wouldn't do that in your situation?
Idina - You were perfect for this role, such an amazing actress. The one thing RENT has taught me: never be a pessimist!
Jesse - I watch Law and Order, so when I first saw you on that stage in the intro to RENT, I was thinking, he can sing? Heh, awesome job nonetheless, my whole Dock Law class loves Law and Order, so you're all good!
Wilson - I love your whole 'Ahhh, ah, I got it! ..and scene' thing. Classic. Magnificent job as Angel, today for you.. tomorrow for me!
Anthony - Being around friends in this situation is great. You have poeple to tell directly, to hug and see their reactions. It's always nice to have friends around; another message I got from RENT. Great job in your role!
Taye - C'mon.. Salt Lake City, get it right! Hah, you nailed the part. I too would've been skeptical about the change from the stage to the screen, but you did awesome!
Great job to the whole cast and crew who made this come alive. I'll remember it forever and I can't wait for the DVD!
Posted by: Kevin W on 11/28/05 at 06:59 PM
Wow, all of your reactions were priceless. Wilson, I laughed for a solid 20 minutes after watching yours. Rosario, you are truly one of the most genuine actresses of our time. You brought such life to the character of Mimi and really touched my heart with your performance. Idina, you are my favorite Broadway actress of all time. Your voice is amazing and gives me chills everytime I hear it. Adam, you have NOTHING to worry about. Your legacy absolutely remains in tact. Your performance was so great, I couldn't imagine anyone else as Roger. This movie has affected me in a way that no other movie ever has. My roommate and I have been sitting here for hours listening to the soundtrack instead of doing our work. But ya know what, it's completely worth it. :)

I thought the movie was really amazing. I went with two of my friends who had also seen the stage show and (blasphemy!) there were some parts that were better. I don't think the material was dated. :D

I loved the movie! All you guys were AMAZING! Adam, I am a huge fan and was just wondering if you are currently doing a show on Broadway and if not do you plan on doing one soon?
Posted by: Cee on 11/28/05 at 07:51 PM
You all were absolutely perfect. From the beginning, I had complete confidence in the orginal 6. But once I heard how much Rosario's life parallelled certain aspects of the story and that Tracie was a huge RENThead like all of us, my confidence in the entire cast grew and never faded.
You guys didn't disappoint, and I hope that you all are as proud of yourselves as we are of you! A story and a score that we have fallen in love with will be around forever to share with our loved ones for decades to come!
As I've repeated many times before, thank you all so much for allowing us to stay so involved in this whole process. While I am ecstatic that the movie is finally here and is so wonderful, it's a bit bittersweet that soon, we will not have the same opportunities to have this contact with you through the blogs and through public appearances. That just means that all of you have to be involved in many more projects which give us the opportunity to see you all again!
Much love and gratitude,

Hey guys!
Tracie; You're the only Joanne in my eyes, if you had even the tiniest doubt about your performance let me demolish it by saying you were perfect. I could see the joy in your eyes during your blogs and that made Joanne closer to my heart 'cause I knew you loved her as much as me. It really makes a huge difference when you love your roll and I wanted to say it shone through on screen. I love you!
Idina; I thought you couldn't get any better in Wicked, I was really wrong!
Taye; Damn you for making me like Benny! And were those bum shots of Idina your idea? lol
Jesse; You're a perfect Collins, you made me love him even more!
Wilson; My DARLING! You made me remember why Angel is my role model!
Rosario; You were so young and playful which made Mimi's so much death so much more painful.
Adam; Please ask your wife to excuse me but you are very VERY sexy as Roger. You're the epitomy of Rockstar.
Finally (but certainly not least) Anthony! Well, here we go. I already loved the character Mark best because he and I are fairly similar (only I actually named my camera). I always had complete confidence in you that you’d do him total justice. I know he’s your baby too. I also wanted to say how much your extensive involvement in the blogs meant to me. I loved to hear about the little things going on behind the cameras. It’s easy on film to detach from your audience but with you, and all the other actors, talking directly to us it didn’t lose any of the intimacy of the original production. Thanks so very much, and you didn’t disappoint.
Also not to forget Arron Lohr and the rest of the Film ensemble! You guys were great! Thank you all! This was a dream come true.
No day but Today!

The fact that you guys responded the way you did when you got role shows how much you love playing these characters. That adds depth to your performance and makes people excited to see the movie when you love the work so much.
ANTHONY you're such a caring and generous person. It was awesome to see that you included other people when you found out.
TAYE loved the outfit; very urbane, great to know you only wanted to do the movie if it was done right.
ROSARIO wow! to find out that you got the part so quickly shows how talented you are.
ADAM your apprehension showed how much you cared about your portrayal of roger as an actor and didn't want to let people down.
IDINA how can you be pessimistic when you're so talented and after you won the TONY for wicked, how could be even the tiniest bit pessimistic about it when you're so talented.
TRACIE it's awesome that you're one of us CRAZZZZY RENT fans. You are so funny because you're always so excited and a little anxious, and I am too, so it helps to see that I'm not the only person like that.
WILSON, yours was sooooo funny. Too bad we don't ahve a video of you screaming in the car down the highway. Your enthusiasm makes us crazy fans even more excited. I loved the hat.

When I first saw the previews for the movie I couldn't wait to see it. I've never seen the play but when I saw the previews I knew I would love it, and I did. Rent is the best movie I had seen in a very long time. It has made me look at people differently. This movie has changed my life in a good way. I would recommened everyone to go see it if you haven't already. I love the music.

Hmmmmm...my first "blog" in 39 years of living.... I guess this is one surprising effect of "Rent": it brings would-be Luddites into the Modern Age!!
I think the film is fabulous, but I came into it rather biased, having seen the B-way show a number of times.
This is for Jesse L. Martin: I feel compelled to say that your singing voice is more moving than any I have ever heard, and I've heard my fair share of voices in my lifetime. I believe that a gift like yours needs to be shared as much, and as widely, as possible.
Sending peace--

I love finding out little tidbits of info like this. Such an insight into the thought process of each of the actors. And Tracie, you're so cute! I can see myself doing the same thing - wandering around New York... but knowing me I'd probably get hit by a cab. Thank god you had your wits about you, though!
You are all so phenominal, the movie is fantastic!!

I was eight when I first saw RENT on Broadway with most of you guys, the incredible original cast. Alright, so I pretty inappropriately young but my mother had just seen the show and she was all excited because she just fell in love and she had to share it with me. So, basically, ever since, I too have been crazy in love. I've seen the show on Broadway an embarressing amount of times and so, I was also a little nervous about the movie. Knowing who was cast, I felt a lot more comfortable. But still, I was nervous about risking RENT's perfect legacy (and, at the risk of making others angry, I was also bothered that millions of teeny boppers would feel the same possession over the show that I did!!) But I've got to say: you guys did an incredible job in the film! The screen version was faithful to the stage performance I've always loved, and each addition, especially with the cast, didn't only fit right in, you truly added.
Alright, so I've blabbed on long enough--seriously, though, you were all just so amazing. Alright, now I'll really stop talking! Thank you, thank you, thank you! And enjoy the billions of compliments you're deservedly getting!

The movie was amazing. I've seen it twice already and have loved every minute. Each actor brings such a different aspect to the film, and I truly commend them for that. I do not believe they could have created a better cast. I have been anxious ever since I heard that the movie was being made, but was skeptical, as Adam said he was also. But fear not, the film is a total success in my book. Congrats to everyone involved in the production of this amazing film.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that Chris decided to cast you guys (the original cast+rosario and tracie!) if you weren't the people to be in the movie, it would never have turned out as beautiful as it did! All your comments were great! Tracie+Wilson, i laughed for 10 minutes after hearing yours!! I can just picture Tracie calling random people on her cell phone being like- I GOT THE PART! haha! anyway, you made the movie perfectly and you all did a WONDERFUL job! this is DEF my FAVORITE movie ever! i LOVE RENT!!! im so glad you all got to be in the movie! the final result is beautiful and soooo well done! i love it! thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

that video was too cute!
The little side comments were the best... don't think anyone has mentioned Tracie's hilarious "nayyyy, nayy sayer" background thing, lol.
And Taye's Seattle/SLC comments while Anthony was speaking were v. funny/cute too. I like your socks Taye! (as well as your glasses)
Wilson you are ADORABLE!!!! I don't know how many times I've said that, but it's never enough, and what you said in that video made it even more true. I <3 you Wilson!
haha also, I put a picture of when I met Wilson in Bryant Park on my half-page in my yearbook, so when that comes out in June, he'll be immortalized forever in my school's yearbook. lol

Wow! Bellissimo! I saw the movie on Thanksgiving and fell in love all over again! I will admit that in the past few years I had "forgotten" about RENT and the way it made me feel. It won't happen again. I was skeptical about the movie. Would it live up to the play? Would I be just as emotional? I must say it was fantastico! Having seen the play only 5 times in my lifetime, the movie not only gave me an emotional jolt it also lifted my spirits! I haven't stopped singing since I left the movie theatre! I sing in the kitchen, shower, car, school! I love it! To everyone involved in RENT........Thank You! Jesse and Adam....seriously guys you can sing to me any day of the week and all day on Sunday! :) I will have my people call your people to schedule the "singing 2 me" sessions! I love it! :)

This has been one of the most influential movies I have ever seen. The chemistry between everyone in the film is incredible, and I'm sure that it is unspoken that you all did the Larson family proud. I had no idea that Rosario Dawson can sing, but she has an amazing voice. Idina, your voice is incredible - it gives me chills every time that I hear it. I've seen it once, and I'll see it again! Love you All! Thank You. Liz

I don't think words can express how much I love all of you, how much this musical and this movie have meant to me, and how much I want to cry with joy right now.
Thank you. Fantastic blog. One day, I want to be able to walk up to each and every one of you and just say thank you. That's all I'll be able to say, and I think it says it all.

RENT the movie is well worth seeing, espescially for anyone who was so originanly connected to the theater when it first came out. Chris Columbus, the directior -- WOW - he captured the spirit, the heart, the romance the truth of the theatre piece and made it happen on film. Congratulations Chris! The camera work, the lighting, the stages, all brilliant. None of the actors could have been better in their parts. A very gifted film for all to see who can understand the diversity, the spirit and the unity of what life is for some, and can be for others while reminding us there is no day like today......BRILLIANT!!!! I will see it many more times. Thank you so much Jonathan Larson, the Larson Family, Chris Columbus, the Great Cast, and all those involved. It's a slice of life of movie that you don't want to miss.
As for Jonathan Larson, the Larson Family, Chris Columbus and all the cast, I dedicate this to you:
"Healers are time less, they are magical,
endless in their journey,
void of their space and time,
relentless in their destiny.
Their energy transcends to another,
and in that moment, in that space,
the world stops -- therein lies healing --
universal in it's nature,
cosmic from it's existence."

Awwwwwwwww thanks so much for sharing!! It was really interesting to see all of your different reactions and views on getting your parts.
Wilson, Tracie-That is so me. Self containment is bad for the soul. Sometimes you just need to let it out haha
Taye, Adam- Wow what amazing perspectives. Thanks for sharing your feelings/decisions on taking on the role once more.
So far I have taken my family and friends to see the musical movie at least 3 times, and everyone of them renthead or not, have been impressed to tears with the outcome. Your performance has deeply touched so many and this is only the first week!! Thank you for making this whole experience so memorable.

Hi everyone - this is my first post here, but I've been reading all the comments and watching all the clips for several weeks now.
I had seen the musical twice on tour so from that, the soundtrack, and all the clips here I knew the movie was going to be good - but I really had no idea what an amazing experience the film would turn out to be. I was absolutely blown away by it!!! I have seen it 4 times already (Wednesday with my best friend, Thursday with my dad, Friday with both my parents, and Saturday with my best friend again!) and I plan to see it several more times in the theatre - not to mention snatching up the DVD as soon as it comes out =D =D =D
I have never been so moved by a movie in my entire life - even though I knew it was coming, the tears started flowing the minute I saw Angel in Collins' arms on the subway and they kept coming. When Jesse sings "I'll Cover You" at the church, every single word of that song evokes more crying - and he gets me again at the end of "Goodbye Love" when he comes over to the others. And of course when they finally find Mimi at the end, the tears started up again and lasted through the last shot of Angel in Mark's film. They even scared me for a minute that Mimi might not wake up. WOW - I left the theater emotionally drained every time, but in the best possible way.
I really don't know what the critics are talking about in their various complaints of the movie - how it is too dated and how it doesn't connect with people who aren't already Rentheads. It's so not true!!! My best friend Shannan and my parents had never seen the play and didn't really know the music, but they enjoyed it and got into it just as much as I did. Shannan and my mom were both crying right along with me, and even my dad was getting teary at the end! We all had to stop ourselves from dancing in the aisles from time to time - La Vie Bohème, anyone? How anyone could not connect with the emotional content and the message of this film is far beyond my comprehension. It is about everything that is important about being a human being - love, friendship, tolerance, and acceptance, to name just a few. The issues of HIV, homelessness, and drug addiction are just as prevalent today no matter how much society tries to ignore them. I think that the spirit of the film of living for the moment (No Day But Today) is so important to get across to people. Everyone should see this film and really open their minds and hearts to it! Enough said :)
Of course, I haven't forgotten the people who made this film into such a great experience. Bravo to Chris Columbus and all the crew! And what can I say about the cast except that it was absolute perfection! They definitely made the right choice in bringing back 6 of the 8 original cast members - I am soo glad that your performances were captured forever on film. And Rosario and Tracie were also perfect for their roles! You all lived and breathed your parts, and my heart connected with each and every one of you.
Wilson - I <3 the vibrant spirit and the heart that you bring to Angel - no one will ever match it. You make both a hot guy and a pretty girl - and I just love the way you dance and beat those drums...pipes...tables. You go Wilson!
Jesse - I am so in awe of your voice and your acting in this film. Your every word tears me up when you sing at Angel's funeral - both on screen and when I listen to the CD. You're fabulous on Law & Order, but I hope you consider more singing roles in the future.
Idina - You're so hilariously funny and talented, and you're the perfect Maureen! Btw, great tattoo if it's really yours :P
Tracie - You are the luckiest RENThead alive for getting to be in this film. I envy you so much, and I think your voice is absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work - you go girl!
Taye - You've got a great voice and you did the almost impossible task of making the evil Benny likeable :) Kudos!
Rosario - I absolutely loved your performance as Mimi. You brought a great combination of sweetness and sexiness to the role - my friend and I both want to learn how to be strippers after watching you in Out Tonight!!! LOL - you make it look like so much fun :D If only I had your body - you're looking hot!! and that's coming from a straight girl. You also made me believe completely the more dramatic elements of Mimi's heroin addiction and illness - really great job and great chemistry with Adam, you lucky girl!
Anthony - You're incredibly cute and sweet as Mark, I can't see anyone else in the role now. I have always empathized with him as the outsider looking in - you bring to light both that detachment and the aching desire to be a part of that community. Bravissimo! And hey - I would tango with you any day!!!
Adam - You are sooooo absolutely gorgeous - your face, the long hair (though I love it short, too), and that beautiful short. You broke my heart as Roger and made me fall in love with him completely. You brought me to tears with every word you sang to Mimi at the end and every look you had on your face. You really don't have to worry about being part of this movie - the film turned out perfectly and will be a great complement to your role in the original cast! I hope to hear and see more from you in the future - movies, musicals, CDs (I <333 Civilian and Model Prisoner!) I will never forget meeting you after Aida one night - I asked you if I could take a picture, and you replied "Only if you're in it with me, honey" :D :D :D So sweet as always.
Alright, enough...I have way too much to get done before finals! Not to mention fitting in Rent viewings 5 & 6 (& 7.....)! Once again, great job everyone :)
Much love,
Mary

Taye, you're the male form of a fashionista. Fashionisto? Either way, you're always stylin'.
Anthony, such eloquence. I can't wait for the book. It'll be the Rent bible's permanent companion.
I'm so happy you all were those cast. I shudder to think of the pop star version.

Just saw it for the 3rd time last night..and the acting is just so wonderful in this moive, I can't get over it! The characters...when I watch thease blogs and think of the movie it's like "no way...they're NOTHING like that in 'real life'!" The singing of coarse is also MIND-BLOWING as well..but I already knew that. It makes me so incredibly happy that thease roles were filled with most of the broadway cast, and two amazing actresses/singers! Not like most movie/musicals when they cast celebritys and the singing is awkward...can you IMAGINE Justin Timberlake singing "one song glory"?? DISGUSTING! Well you all are an inspiration to me, and you're going to make me go broke from seeing your movie so many times..but I feel so happy when I'm watching it. And you know what's really really sad? Last night I had a dream....and there was a cow, named Elsie. I'm not even kidding. She died though. You are a beautiful group of people, and I can't wait to see what you do next, I'll be first in line for whatever it may be! Oh-- and Anthony, my boss worked on a movie (Winters Passing) with you and when I found that out I was flipping out and she had no clue you were in Rent...so she didn't know what was up with me. I love you all...Tracie Thoms for life!!!

First off let me just saw that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this film! You were all fantastic! I had chills during the funeral scene all three times that I saw it this past weekend. Jesse, you are wonderful! Tracie & Idina, you girls are the dynamic duo! Catwoman rocks! lol I am so glad you were all able to be in this production. It would not have been the same without you. I wish you all the best in life.

Hey everyone!
This is an AMAZING movie, I've seen it four times now, and everytime I watch it, it's just the best movie I've ever seen. I never got to see the show on broadway and now, after having seen the movie, I don't think I could picture anyone else in those roles. You are all so talented!
I'd like to share with you all that the first night I went to see the movie, the theater was pretty packed and after Seasons of Love the screen fades to black and I swear to you people started clapping, and someone shouted out. "DUMMY! They can't HEAR us!" and the response was "I don't care, they deserve it!" So to anyone of the cast members who thought things might go wrong, I can assure you that people in New Jersey are nothing less than AMAZED by this movie!
I'd also like to share that one of my favorite numbers is Take Me or Leave Me, because Idina and Tracie are SO AMAZINGLY strong and both extremely talented that I can't help getting sucked into the scene everytime, and I hate it when they say they are leaving each other! It's actually depressing! So great job to you too.
I wish you all continued success in all that you do.
Love,
Alexandra
P.S. Has anyone else noticed that when Maureen is on the pool table and she knocks the balls out of the way, she makes the shot? I think it's a green ball in the corner pocket by her back foot. At least it looks like it went in. Now THAT'S talent!!!

I wish all of you the best of luck on your future projects after this movie. Each of you were so great in the film.
Your reactions on getting the roles were awesome.
Wil...funny and cute all at the same time!!
love all of you

Everyone was perfectly casted. I even thought that Rosario, and Tracie were better than the originals! That is a very big compliment considering I have been annoying my wife of three years by constantly playing the original cast recordings(highlights & full cast recording) atleast five times a week.

Hey! I loved the movie- it'll never be the musical itself, but it was great for what it was. Kudos.
I'm definitely a Mark fan. Anthony, you're so blessed to be able to play such beautiful character- you're really the essence of Mark, and though i saw Jim Poulos at the Nederlander, i cant imagine anyone short of you filling the role!

even though this was not a movie clip, i really like this clip! i think it was seeing how appreciative and responsive you guys were to something that we are all so passionate about (not to say that you guys arent passionate, but you know what i mean! =P). and it just gets me everytime one of you bring up "you RENTheads" or "the RENTheads" or my personal fave-tracie saying "im a RENThead" =P that you made this movie for us, and that is the ultimate gift... one of the best ones i have ever received.. so to you adam, rosario, wilson, jesse, idina, tracie, anthony and taye, and also chris, from the bottom of my heart.... i say an emotional: THANK YOU...
* .. long live RENT!... long live JL!.. *
so... with that said... RENTHEADS UNITE!!... KEEP THE MOVIE GOING and lets put it over 100 million in the box office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry, just a lil plug!)

Okay, yes I posted earlier but after watching the blog a million more times, I have to say some more.
ROSARIO: I read your article in Marie Claire and I was so amazed. You are so talented and you brought so much to this character. I don't think anyone else could have portrayed her so well.
ADAM: I'm glad you took the chance. I don't know what I (as well as the rest of the RENTheads) would have done if you weren't in the movie. YOU ARE ROGER! No doubt about it.
TRACIE: I love you. I mean, you are so freakin talented. You have also given the rest of us here hope. I mean, you were just one of us and then you got this role.....with the OBC. I mean, you are so lucky. But you totally deserve it!
IDINA: I don't understand how someone with your talent could be so pessemistic. Here's the thing, you are one of the best performers in the world and Chris would ahve been nuts not to cast you. Like I told Adam, this movie would be incomplete without you. And Chris would have heard from me if you weren't in it. I love you!
JESSE: I am so glad Law and Order gave you a break. I adore your voice. I mean, you are just.....AMAZING! I'm going to say this again because it's so true, but you have to be Collins. I mean, no one else could ahve done as fine a a job as you. I love you!
WILSON: There is so much I can say to you. I respect you so much for portraying this role and showing the world ANGEL! I mean, you are extremely talented. I have asked this like 10 million times but I'm gonna do it again, DO YOU TRAIN FOR IT or DOES IT JUST COME NATURALLY? The singing I mean. When I watched this video, I laughed so hard I had tears. With the whole "end scene"....classic. You always seem to ahve me crying. Whether from laughing or.......when Angel dies :'(. I love you so much Wilson!!!!!
ANTHONY: Beautiful......I like that you shared you joyus news with your friends. You deserve this role and I'm sure everyone there with you knew it. I loved seeing you as Mark. Although it wasn't onstage......it was still very very cool.
TAYE: You rock man......I actually has no clue how freakin talented you were and now......I'm obsessed with your voice. Like literally, obsessed. I mean, although Benny isn't a fabulous guy, you gotta love him in the movie because you play him. Love you!
Okay, so I love you all!!!! Go rent go rent go rent! Yay! Love ya.......I hope even though the movie came out already you guys will keep posting. We all love it!

regarding Adam's worries about whether this movie would be successful and whether he'd be remembered for being in the "bad movie", no worries, i loved every last second of the film and I think the casting director made absolutely brilliant choices. congrats guys!
Posted by: Katie on 11/29/05 at 10:30 AM
wow you guys are just TO FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!! Tracie, if by some small miracle anything that big ever happened to me, i would probably have the same reaction. but i really wouldn't bank on it because i am, like Idina there, overly pessemisitc.
Posted by: justine on 11/29/05 at 12:04 PM
I love that this was made in to a movie. When I was in school I fell in love with this story, and I am so glad that there is finally this avenue to bring it to so many people. The message of this movie is so pure, every time I go to see it I invite someone I know is very narrow minded or will possibly learn something important from the story. I hope that everyone does the same. This story has such a deep message that needs to be shared. La vie boheme has always been my favorite song but just seeing how much energy and life it has on sceen makes me love it even more. thanks for all the dedication and spirit that you all put into this project and for keeping it true to the original.

You guys crack me up, I love you. Rosario, I'm so happy that you've been given this opportunity. You rocked, babe. Tracie, our RENThead superstar, we couldn't be more proud. And to all the OBC - Adam, Idina, Jesse, Wilson, Anthony, and Taye, words cannot express how thankful we are to you guys. You made all this happen and it clearly shows the magic you work on the screen. <333

I think that were are all really lucky to have a cast that wants to fans to be so involed the the film and all of the emotions that go with the film and the making of it. I can't wait for the dvd. I already know that the will be one that i will own and watch often. I've seen that movie once and was just blown away by it.
I really wanted to watch this clip, but I still can't get the quicktime to work. I don't know if I am the only one who had that problem. I was able to listen to it with the real player but the video wasn't very good. All that aside this was one of the best videos. I love that the cast it so open with the fans.
I hope that i will be lucky enough to see it again the the theater.
Thanks for all the emotions and hard work you really are effecting people's lives.

Thanks to the entire cast! You have all made a spectacular film!
Adam; I hope your worries have been put to rest, I was not one of the lucky ones to see you on broadway, so I was incredibly happy that you did the movie, to give those of us who were not able to see the orginal cast members on broadway a glimpse of what your performances would have been like and to enjoy your talent! I can't thank you enough, for taking that huge leap of faith with Chris Columbus!
Rosario; What can I say, but I am so glad you were cast, your performance was incredibly moving!
Jessie; Being a law an order fan, I was so happy that you were able to fit this in to your hectic schedule! You were/are incredible! Thank you!
Wilson; I wish I would have been able to see you on broadway, you have such energy and such a presence! I don't think I could imagine anyone else as Angel!
Tracie; I would have been saying some profanities as well, I am so glad you were a part of this production, Kudos to you, I look forward to seeing you in more movies!
Anthony; You are absolutely classic! You're facial expression throughout the movie were hilarious at times! This film would not have been complete without you!
Idina; I know I have said this before, but it is such a treat to be able to have seen you in this movie having missed you on broadway! Thank you to Chris for casting you and letting us see your fantastic performance.
Taye; There are no words, but thanks! I am so glad that you are in this film and I hope your concerns are at rest now as well!
Kudos to Chris for casting all of these brilliant people! I loved the film! Congratulations to all on the success of this film and the many films and opportunities coming your way!

It's awesome to hear the reactions straight from the actor/actress's mouths instead of reading it in magazines or hearing it on television. This was such an incredible cast. I was skeptical about whether or not the movie would measure up to the play because I am a huge RENT fan, seeing it for the first time in NYC this past February, but after seeing the movie I was so incredibly impressed and I will definately see it again. I loved it and the music was as awesome as ever. Thank you:)
Posted by: Becca on 11/29/05 at 03:19 PM
Thanks for the clip. It was nice to see your reaction and compared it with ours. haha, I can't imagine the feeling of pure joy that you had.
Rosario - your story was cute. And we'd love to hear your stories and how it can relate to your life. Write a blog about it! haha
Adam - I can understand the feeling of making sure that you wanted to not mess up the legacy you had already left. Well, not to worry because your legacy has never been better.
Tracie - you are so cute! I love that you had the oppurtunity to be a part of the RENT movie after so many tries.
Idina - especially with rumors of the "pop version" of RENT, I can understand why you were pessimisticI can't imagine RENT without the OBC.
Jesse - thank goodness Law & Order was completely understanding. it was amazing to see you laugh, you should do it more onscreen. You do have a beautiful smile.
Wilson - I can't imagine what the people who passed you were thinking you were doing in their cars. that would have been a hilarious sight. "And scene"
Anthony - it was great that you had the chance to immediately tell your friends. "Seattle, Salt Lake City, I mean" that was great.
Taye - I guess you and Idina had shared the original pessimism. haha, just kidding. it's good you wanted to make sure that Chris served RENT justice.

You all did great! The casting was perfect, even though Tracie and Rosario weren't in the original cast. The show couldn't have been any better!(Well...If the rest of 'Goodbye, Love' was included, and 'Halloween' was included, it might have been a little bit better, but you all were PERFECT!) Love the striped socks, Taye! ;)

That candidness is awesome! Everything y'all said was everything every RENThead was feeling from the time we first heard that the movie was actually going to be made. The initial excitement, the nervousness of it being true to RENT's stage soul...just everything. I'm SOO glad they offered you all the roles. At least for me, I've been listening to the OBC version since I first saw RENT in London in the Summer of '99. To hear the voices I had been listening to for 6 years was the most amazing experience ever. I sadly would listen to other performances (only 2 because I live in Texas and have to rely on traveling shows) and compare it to the voices I heard almost daily. So, to Chris and all the people involved, thank you for bringing back as much of the original cast as you did because it gave so many of us the chance to see the original Mark, Roger, Collins, Angel, and Maureen! Tracie and Rosario were amazing additions! I love both of you girls sooo much. You're both phenomenal singers. They did an awesome job choosing y'all. Thanks!

Haha I loved this. And Taye and Idina, thats so awesome that you got to do it together. And Tracie, thats so cute how excited you were, I'm so glad that you got the part.

I think I love Wilson. And everyone else, of course. But still.
Posted by: Rebecca on 11/29/05 at 05:43 PM
Adam, those are the cutest car sounds I have ever heard...
Tracie, you are so adorable! "Nay with me"
Wilson, "And scene." You are so wonderful!
"Salt Lake City I mean" nice save, Taye, nice save. *grins* I'm loving the socks, you rock those socks, Taye!
Anthony, are you ever not wonderful? Seriously, have you ever said something stupid or done the wrong thing? I mean, I know you're not perfect, but dang...
Posted by: Bethy on 11/29/05 at 05:55 PM
I think that Taye mentioned a lot of what every fan thought when they heard they were making a movie. I think that's so wonderful. And, though we had to wait a little longer, I think most our fears were assuaged as well. (and as the poster above me noted: what awesome socks!)
Tracie's story was great. 40 blocks! Well, they sure made the right choice. Seriously, you were frickin amazing. Rosario too; such life and emotion and vulnerability in the characters. Of course, it should almost go without saying that all of the OBC members were phenomenal. But the stage and screen are so different, so I'll say it anyhow. You were all. Phenomenal. I wish I could express how moved I was by each and every performance. I never doubted anyone for a second. Simply amazing.

What a fun blog. I loved how Anthony Rapp and Taye Diggs were the final "couple." I saw RENT at a midnight showing, and had a blast. Jesse L. Martin, your voice has grown richer and more beautiful over the past ten years. I loved "Sante Fe."
PS I wonder when we will find out about the quiz contest...

Wilson, I just want you to know that I basically did the same thing when I found out you got the part. I screamed and then I like did this weird little hopping dance in front of my computer going "HEGOTITHEGOTITHEGOTITHEGOTIT!" and my little seven year old cousin thought it was a game so the two of us just danced around like Indians.
I've seen the movie three times in the last week and baby, I just wanted to tell you how beautiful it's been everytime those lights go down and i see your face larger than life. I love you, Wilson, I really do. You probably get this all the time but I just want you to know you've got a believer in me.

Wilson, you're so adorable. RealPlayer kept freezing on me while I played this, and it froze once while you were demonstrating your roadside screams of happiness. My PrintScreen button didn't work, but that would have been the perfect screenshot.
My birthday's Saturday and I'm celebrating by seeing Rent again. Love you all.

I'm a little PO'd about the reviews for this amazing film...I have seen several amazing, GREAT reviews (right on) and some not so great...I was just reading in PEOPLE the review and it made me very mad. I don't know what some of these reviewers are watching, but I have studied film and theater extensively and RENT is one of the most beautifully done films I have seen in a very long time. Not speaking from a 'renthead' perspective either...the film and everything about it is amazing. Not just the incredible talent of the cast, but everything from the technical aspects of the way the film was shot to the re-vamping of the soundtrack. I think I speak for MILLIONS of people when I say that the film DID NOT DISAPPOINT...Cast, I hope you don't read or take to heart some of the crap I have read...YOU ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL, YOUR FILM IS BEAUTIFUL...THANK YOU Chris Columbus for keeping Jonathan Larson's dream alive in this amazing work of art. God bless you all..."Rentheads...KEEP SEEING THE MOVIE!!!!" I know I don't have to tell you that though! : )

Wilson, I love you.
You've probably heard this a million times from me alone by now, but I love you ALL. And thank goodness they did go with you guys, because I honestly cannot think of anyone else as Mark or Roger or Collins or Angel or... You know. And I had my doubts about Tracie and Rosario, but you guys nailed it.

I loved hearing all of you guys saying how you reacted. Rosario, I hope that you drove safely after relaxing about it. Adam, trust me; this is NOT a bad movie. In fact, it's the best movie I've seen in my entire life, no joke! :D Tracie, it was great to hear how you got the part again, because I read that blog entry and I was very happy. Idina, I'm glad getting the part changed your pessimistic outlook, because I don't want to think that my idol would turn down something because she had her doubts. :D Jesse, I was so happy when I found out that they were letting you off Law & Order for this, simply because you will forever be Collins in my RENT obsessed heart. Wilson, I will always look back on this entry and laugh at your impression of your reaction to getting the part. "Ahhh! Ahhh! I got it! I got it! And end scene. I'm cool now." That's just brilliance. If that ever gives me inspiration for some scene or chapter (I'm a writer), I will put your name on my dedication page, which shall be long. Anthony, somehow I'm not surprised that you'd want to share the news with anyone who'd care. Why? I'm not sure. It just seems very Anthony of you. Oh God, I'm quoting Rosario. :P Taye, this is irrelevant, but you and Idina are the best couple EVER! I'm glad you two tried to see how good this movie would be before jumping in. But it doesn't matter, since as I said before;
THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER! Much love to you all!

My partner and I have been living with HIV for the past 11 years. We are so emotionally moved by RENT, especially the music.
The song 'Seasons of love' is how we feel about every valuable moment of life with each other and our friends.
Rent is a true reflection of what should be important in anyones life...love!
Thank you to all of you for shining out from your hearts, and lighting the way for the rest of us.
Never forget...that it is love that matters most...everyday...every minute!

To the Rent cast: I think you all gave amazing heartfelt performances. My friends and I have a poll going of our favorite character -- right now Joanne is winning. So who are all of your faves?
Posted by: Brandi on 12/05/05 at 01:18 PM
Wilson, you are so fricken adorable!!!

You guys are awesome! It's so amazing for actors to be so passionate about what they are doing. They could have so easily hired a bunch of "big-namers" but they chose to make it right! They couldn't have had a better cast. The reactions are hilarious...TRACIE I LOVE YOU--YOU ARE ONE OF US and you are amazing! Thank you for inspiring my life and Rent is the best movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you guys! THANKS FOR THE BLOGS!

Yay, my city is famous! :P Heck, my state is too. hehehe Dunno what you were coming to UT for, Anthony, but hope that you had a good time.
Posted by: Megan M. on 12/08/05 at 02:22 AM
I have to say Anthony, I know exactly what you're talking about. I just got into my dream college (Colby) and all of my friends were around me and they were so happy for me 'cause they knew how important it was to me... My reaction was a combination of your and wilson's reactions when you heard about rent. I started screaming, my friends started screaming, i was shaking... Getting to make those exstatic calls and sharing it with people is one of the best feelings in the world. Your comments really resonated for me.
Also-- Adam, Idina, and Taye-- thank you so much for doing this even though you were skeptical. Without you, the movie would have been not so good at all. Part of the reason that this movie is SO amazing is because all ya'll OBC people are back.
Tracie and Rosario-- I am SO glad you joined. Now I picture you two when I picture them. You are amazing! You give the movie enough of it's own flavor so that it doesn't just feel like a filmed version of the play. Tracie I want to be you someday (minus the high C in seasons of love... I'm never going to be able to do that, so I won't even start on that dream...)
No day but today!

Teehee. So I'm a little late on the commenting, but...whatever. I just have a few things I wanted to say.
Tracie: You're adorable. Absolutely adorable. "I was screaming profanities...loudly...into a cell phone..." I think if I could meet anyone in the cast it'd probably be you.
Taye: You're so so so cute! I love how you always, always always talk about Idina. I've been watching these blogs a couple times each, and this time when I heard you say "My wife...Idina Menzel..." I laughed out loud for a long time. You throw her in everywhere. "You know, my wife, Idina Menzel...yeah, and my wife, Idina Menzel...yeah, I'm married to Idina Menzel..."
Wilson: I'm frightened of your driving. Just kidding. I love you.

My drama club is doing "Rent" and I play MiMi's part. So people you have NO idea how hard is to dance in heels is!! OMG, Wilson now I know what it feels like, but for you I'm sure it's worse right? lol, nad me I trip over my own tenny-shoes!! lol. So how you said you sprained your ankle? Well when we performed La Vei Boheme, my heel got hooked on something, and I tripped and fell flat on my face!! OUCH!! So I have nothing but respect for you!! haha keep up the good work, but please be careful!! I luv yas muchos burritos!!
