You are all so right! With only a few words each, you've captured the essence of what RENT, and life, is all about...
Really touching, guys, really touching!
All my love, your ever faithful fan in France, Anne-Inger

I can't believe the movie is coming out next week. I can't begin to tell you how much I've appreciated the openness, honesty, and kindness of the entire cast and crew in including us, the fans, in this process the way you all did. Special thanks to Anthony--without him, I don't think this experience would have been the same. THANK YOU!!
Posted by: Corey on 11/14/05 at 09:52 AM
the reason i love rent--in these modern times, we create so many problems for ourselves. we make life so complicated, when it really is so simple. i think everyone should experience rent to be reminded of that.
Posted by: carey on 11/14/05 at 09:53 AM
Wow, to be put on a spot with such a question. What you all had to say was truly touching. Thank you so much for your own personal explanation and insights on what this musical means.
I agree with what Corey posted above me. The modern world is moving so fast around us it is easy to get dizzy and lose sight of the simple things in life that truly matter.
Thanks for this wonderful journey, y'all!

The world is such an insane place sometimes, and as those others before me even said; we do get lost in everything instead of just living one moment at a time, realizing what truly matters. I think Rent, for those who haven't seen it yet or heard it's fabulous music, is a reminder of what beauty truly surrounds us. The world IS what you make of it and it's our jobs to make it fabulous. THAT'S Rent.
Posted by: Courtney on 11/14/05 at 10:24 AM
You guys get it. I hate when people ask me what it is about RENT that I love so much, because that means that they just don't understand RENT. You guys get it, and that makes me just that much more in love with all of you. :D

You all are awesome and everything you guys said was so freaking true! i cant wait for rent i saw it on broadway and soon in theaters its going to be SO exciting! YAY FOR RENT! ;)
Posted by: Becky on 11/14/05 at 10:37 AM
There's nothing Hallmark cheesy about it :) It's nice to have a musical--a _modern_ musical--that deals with an honest idea of love. Sometimes it works out, somtimes it doesn't, but it's never easy either way. This is precisely why I love Rent, because it's so true and relatable.
Is it really next week already? I've been waiting for this movie for months and it's finally here. Wow.
Anthony -- :D I will actually be at the Interlochen event in Chicago on Saturday, so I hope I have a chance to meet you!

i agree with everything that was said. it is like the song "Seasons of Love" where they say "lets celebrate a year and remember the life of friends"
Posted by: brenda on 11/14/05 at 10:52 AM
In my personal experience, people have a tendency to judge Rent because of the issues it raises. It takes you out of your comfort zone, and throws you into these real life problems. But what people miss, is exactly what all of you said! Its surrounding yourself with those who you truly care about, living for the moment, and not taking anything for granted. Thanks guys!

To the cast, from what I have seen so far, you all did a wonderful job. Only a week and a half left. I wil be one of the hundreds waiting in line, I saw the play for the frist time in New York this past spring, and I will always remember the show, just like I will always remember this movie, and the interpertation of RENT that you all gave was beautiful and I couldn't agree more, this is a moive that will change how people look at one another.
Take care

I agree with all you guys.
RENT is something to be experienced for many reasons. One that I find, is that is gives us hope from example of what love, friendship, and family can do even against the worst odds. That bond of love and faith between a family, even if it's one that you weren't born into, can defy the very things that we thought would destroy us by giving us something to hold onto, something worth holding on to.
It has really touched me that you guys included all of us along the production of this. Just showing that we, the fans, are in your thoughts is very important to us. Just to give us the feeling that we were a part of something as phenomenal and inspiring as RENT is truly amazing of you all, the cast, director, and anyone who has read our posts, even just a glance. Thank you, so much. <3<3<3
You are all truly amazing. <3 Thank you, again. <3

This is the video that I am going to show to people when they ask me what RENT is about. It is so multi-faceted and beautiful that I hope it will catch on with the general public.
My goal is to get 20 people who haven't seen the broadway show to go see the movie.
Posted by: Grant on 11/14/05 at 12:42 PM
Aw, that was great. Anthony, you didn't sound cheesy at all. You guys seem to really know what RENT's message is, and No Day But Today is a great philosophy to have. I can't believe there is only 9 more days left! I ca't wait!

Anthony-Every time you open your mouth you amaze me. And you don't sound like a Hallmark card at all, it's a very true statement.
Jesse-The family I chose is my true family. Maybe we don't have blood in common, but we do have love. Isn't love more important anyway?
Wilson-Carpe diem is one of my favorite messages of Rent. No Day But Today!
Tracie-Supporting each other is the only way to survive in this world. Such a beautiful sentiment.
Rosario-Life, Love, Now. Who needs anything else?
To Love, Family, No Day But Today, Support, and Life!
Mucho love and happiness to all of you,

Guys, you've achieved the impossible; stating the essence of RENT without Jon Larson there, in just a few words. Kudos guys! No day but today!

omg you guys are great! i can't wait to see the movie! omg 9 DAYS YOU GUYS! ahhh
Posted by: meg on 11/14/05 at 03:45 PM
Ahhh...I like, almost cried. It was awesome.
There are only nine days left. I remember when the first relase date got out, and everyday it was "208 DAYS UNTIL RENT!!!" (Obviously...the number changed...) Wow, now it's single digits too. Hehe.
People at school will randomly come up to me and start singing Seasons of Love. Only they're like, 700 25 thousand 190 minutes...actually, thats only my friend Tracy, the others actually say something close to 525,600. It's quite funny though. And my art teacher, who saw you guys in 1996, FAILED TO MENTION that to me. Since then I've been wondering how I didn't know about that before last week, seeing as I normally walk into my art class singing La Vie Boheme.......
I'm so excited that this musical is finally going to be on the big screen. Now everyone can be touched by the amazing message that RENT gives people.

I am so incredibly excited. I am stuck in small town Prince Edward Island, Canada and this summer I was fortunate enough to travel to New York City and the only show that we pre ordered tickets months in advance for was Rent. My friends and I have been listening to the soundtrack since middle school and know every word to every song. I still can't believe I saw it on stage and now I get to see all of you on the big screen. Thank you so much for all your effort into the movie and to this blog. It really means a lot to all the people who can't travel to see a show (like some of my friends) and to the people who have been lucky to see it live. I love everything about this musical and you have all done it incredible justice. Best of luck with the movie and everything that you do.

I am so jealous of everyone that had the oppurtunity to meet you guys today. I imagine RENT has such a significant part of your heart, and we thank you for making it a part of ours. I hope that this movie is able to spread the message Jonathon Larson was trying to send. "No Day But Today" or "Carpe Diem [Seize the Day]" is how I try to live my life, and I realize that how much I take for granted.
I know that my friends are now interested in seeing the movie because I have been so excited about it. I come from a small town, so I hope that the movie will affect the lives of many here. I know that there are prejudices in even seeing this movie. Because I am so excited, the word has been getting out more, and hopefully RENT will be able to get its message out everywhere.
It's always amazing to hear how RENT has affect your lives, and to hear your different takes on what RENT is. I think for each person, what RENT means is different... and that is an amazing thing.
Love, Joyce

Wilson, Tracie, Rosario, Anthony, and Jesse. You all truely know what this movie is about and its so cool how deeply you feel about Rent. I cannot wait till the moive comes out, mainly because the rest of my family isn't really interrested in it, but I absolutely love it and I listen to the movie soundtrack almost every chance I get. I love the message about Rent and the fact that every cast memeber of Rent and Mr. Chris Columbus have put so much into this movie to make it so great for so many people to see is just wonderful. The cast of Rent are the best, cant wait, only 9 days left!!!!
I wish each of you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

There is so much more to RENT than the story on the surface. What Jonathan Larson has created for us is a musical with so many dimensions we need not worry about getting bored.
What I love about RENT is that no matter how many times I revisit it, I always discover something new - A single word or phrase, a note, even a moment of silence - that brings back that tingly hearing-it-for-the-first-time feeling.
When I first discoverd that RENT would be a movie, I was a little nervous, but also extremely excited. Not only has the music been polished and revamped, the story that I've loved for so long is now in an even richer format. It's RENT in 3D. What could be more exciting than that?
So much attention has been given to detail, the concerns of fussy fans, and the wishes of Jonathan's family. That alone, I think, makes this movie a success - No matter how well it does or doesn't do at the box office.
Just one more week to go. It's hard to believe but it's almost here. I'd like to thank whomever is responsible for creating this blog, Chris, the cast, and the crew for feeding us RENTheads with lots of sneak peak goodies every week for the past several months. MERCI! MERCI! MERCI!
See y'all at the cinema!
Posted by: Chris on 11/14/05 at 07:36 PM
I have been a RENT-head since it first hit Broadway. I purchased and memorized the cast album long before I ever saw the play.
I have seen RENT the play 1 time on the road and 2 times at the Neederlander. If I ever get back to NYC I know I will see it again. From what I can tell by the trailers I have seen and the comments that you guys made on your video blogs the heart and soul of RENT has been preserved. Thank goodness Chris Columbus got most of the original cast to do the movie.
I have been waiting so long for this movie. It is so appropriate that it open on Thanksgiving weekend. I am truly thankful for RENT the play and RENT the movie. I know when it comes out on DVD I'll be one of the first to buy it. I love you guys!!!

HI
i just wanted to say that i saw the screening in denver on Nov. 13th, and it was amazing. the acting, the filming, everything. it was soo amazing. it was a bummer that you all couldn't make it out here like we were told you were going to be- i almost had a heart attack when i found out you were supposed to come! But even though you didn't make it here to the Mile high city, it was still one of the most amazing experiences of my life. i just wanted to tel you that. Thank you soo much- Cammie

It's always good to hear how RENT has impacted cast members' lives too, not just ours. Also...
Tracie Thoms news-I just read that Tracie has been offered a regular cast member gig on CBS's Cold Case starting Nov. 20! Congrats Tracie, we'll be watching and cheering you on! :)

OK, I love all of you so much. Everytime I listen to the new soundtrack I love it even more, you're all amazing. I love that you are all so connected to this fabulous musical, that we all love so flipping much. If I was ever asked to put the essence of RENT into words I would have one of those "uhh... umm... uhhh" impossible to answer question moments, but you all got it just right! I love you so much!
Anthony, can I just say that you rock my world? My brothers are all like "stop playing that La Vie Boheme clip over, and over, and over, we want to play stupid violent games!"
Jesse, not only RENT but Law and Order too? Those are like the two most important aspects of my entertainment life!!!!!!
Wilson, i love you so much, even if you do look better in a dress than I do.
Tracie, i can't express how fabulous I think you are. Your video blog where you were like "hey RENThead, want to be in the movie? would that be fun for you?" is like my favorite thing of all time!
Rosario, omg i love you as Mimi, you're AMAZING!
I know this was rambly, but I have been trying to control the urge to make comments, and so it kind of all overflowed into this one! I LOVE YOU CAST OF RENT!!!
Posted by: Becca on 11/14/05 at 11:38 PM
Hey Jesse, just wanted to say we missed you at the Rent Signing at Virgin Records yesterday... however, to the rest of the cast, especially YOU Rosario and Adam - thanks for taking the time to enjoy your fans, I'm sure I speak for us all when I say thanks so much.
Hope to see the rest of you rentheads at the premiere at the ziegfield!!

Rosario - I love what you said about the essence of RENT: love, life, now. You're absolutely right - it IS a great philosophy to have and it's definitely something I try to embrace.

Maaaan, I've been waiting for years for a Rent movie. I can't believe that it was years ago that I've been waiting for next week.
Posted by: Amy Kooiman on 11/15/05 at 07:01 PM
ya'll (wow i love typing that word) truly do get the meaning of rent, because you've lived with it for so long. i'm SO excited for that message to be shared to a much bigger audience, and for it to help and change even more lives.
you know, there's this little knot of tension that's been building ever so slowly these last few days out of nervousness for seeing the film...but deep down inside, i know that there's nothing to worry about. because as long as the message and the heart of rent are there, any imperfections, the songs cut, etc. really are not important in the end. because i know that the rent's love will exist.
much love, xoxoxoxox
Posted by: jackie on 11/15/05 at 07:28 PM
You guys all just totally captured everything that rent is. I was actually fighting with a friend earlier today, she didn't understand why I loved Rent so much. She's always like "it's about a bunch of people with AIDS and they are going to die, why would you spend all your time listening to something like that" And I try to tell everyone who thinks like that, that that really isnt was RENT is about at all. It's about everything you guys just said, it's in the music. "No day but today" and just having to "forget regret", it's right there, and it surprises me when I come across people who can't see that.
I just wanted to tell you guys that RENT changed, if not saved, my life, when i didn't think it could be saved. I know that sounds really lame and stupid and almost cliché now, but it's true and I don't know what I would have done without it.
on a less depressing and sentimental note...
Rosario = on Conan tomorrow night! I'm so excited. If you read this before you tape it, you have definately got to do the "rock on" hand symbol thing-y, thats my goal in life is to get someone to do it on TV. So just think, with one small hand gesture, you can fulfill my life goal! So yeah, just your basic \m/.
I love all you guys and you totally rock more than any of us RENTheads could ever show you, but hopefully, my spreading the word about the film and the magic behind the cast and of RENT itself will bring a few more people to see the movie....since it is all I will be talking about until I move away from them to NYC in the summer. Keep on being awesome.
Much Love,
Danielle

It's very touching to hear what RENT means to the cast, and I find that I feel the same way. The movie is finally almost officially out and I can't wait another minute (though most of us have been waiting 525,600 or more lol).
Posted by: Janelle on 11/16/05 at 04:46 AM
*sniff* (as in crying; not drugs) that was soooo great! I'm sure that i could write a long essay on the deepness of rent! Kinda like Anthony always has like this long speach prepared while everyone else is like: yeah... rent is about love... uh... yeah. lol. That's okay i love you all, and i love rent. Yay! Rent!
The thing that i think makes rent go moving, is the fact that everyone has real life problems that many of us can relate to. Even if we're not on drugs, gay and have AIDS, or dirt poor, all we need to do is look around and see the people right outside our doors.
I think that the most important lesson of Rent is not just love and to seize the day, but hope. And i know people of both sides of the political spectrum who are moved by the message of pulling together and helping one another. (even if they don't agree w/ rent's content).
Rock on guys!
Your friend, Christen
PS: I love Anthony's long "speeches", because I get to look at his pretty face for ten minutes.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful words of wisdom =) Every single thing of what you guys said is so true. And Rosario, you summed it up perfectly - love, life, now.
A few days ago I actually wrote an essay on Jonathan Larson for my English class, and then I also wrote a huge long essay-ish type thing about RENT just for myself, just because I wanted to put some of my thoughts about it down on paper. In doing both, as I was thinking about all the different aspects and analyzing and writing, I kept finding new things and digging deeper into all of what RENT is about - I'd be writing and suddenly realize another concept of what RENT is about, or what it did, etc, however minor. It just goes to show how layered and yet beautifully simple the essence of RENT is. Like what you all said =D
Much love and excitedment (7 days...*spazz*),

I can't wait until the 23rd so that I can see my cousin on the big screen and all of the other cast. I know with all of the great cast this movie is going to be a huge success like the broadway show.

As sarah said it sucks not living in New York. It sucks even more when your bro is in the hospital for six months with a brain tumor, Your dad quit his job a couple years ago and you have a younger sister so your family is kinda poor so u cant fly to NY for a day to see that movie.

i love the way they all describe the movie! they do it with so much passion! i cant stand it when i see actors who have this incredible opportunity and are living their dream yet theire not excited or grateful for it. these guys seem to really cherish what they have. i love that.
