I LOVE THIS MOVIE! LOL!

Posted by: Stephanie L.G. on 11/23/05 at 04:55 PM

i thought that starting the movie with the actors on the stage that rent was on was great. I loved it when the actors did it after the intermission during the play but i think i like it better in the beginning. GOOD JOB GUYS!!!! RENT is my favorite play, and now its my favorite movie!!!!

Posted by: Kerri on 11/23/05 at 04:59 PM

I really wanted to thank everyone who took part in creating this movie, not just the actors, but the film crew, Chris Columbus, the Larsons and especially the late Jonathan Larson. I can't imagine what my life would be like without Rent. What a beautiful experience!

I think after seeing this movie, everyone will remember the love!

Hey, just saw the movie and it was amazing. This was such an awesome way to start the show, having everyone on stage singing. My friend and I plan on seeing it about 525,600 more times ;-) You guys rocked! Thank you so much for bringing this to the big screen!

Posted by: Kelly on 11/23/05 at 05:27 PM

This was an amazing scene to open the movie with. It really got people into the spirit of RENT, although when part bbegan to play, my mom thought the movie was ending. I love how all of the actors were truly into the song, moving gracefully with each and every note.

Posted by: Edlyn on 11/23/05 at 05:34 PM

Am I the first one to post? Probably not, but whatever!
I haven't seen it yet!!! AHHH! Only 1 more hour left until I do though!!! I'm sure it's going to be AWESOME!!!

The movie was amazing! I cried when Angel died and I cried at the end because it was so moving. The movie was more amazing than i ever imagined it could have been. Chris Columbus, and other production people, you did an amazing job forming an onstage musical into a "in real life" movie. I felt like i was there in NYC. I could see the homelessness and the poverty, but also the happiness and the joy of 8 friends. Idina, Rosario, Wilson, Jesse, Anthony, Adam, Tracie, Taye- you are the most amazing singers broadway and hollywood has ever seen. Your voices just have an effect that makes me feel like I can do anything. I can rule the world! You are ALL my heros and you will always be my inspiration. THank you SO much for giving us all a film that we will cherish and love and refer to when we are in hard times (and also in good times!) Rent was amazing. I plan to see it a billion more times!! I love it! GREAT WORK!!!
I LOVE YOU IDINA!!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!! =)
RENT IS LOVE!!!!!!

The play is amazing, and the movie was amazingly done. This clip is gorgeous and the solos sung by Tracie Thoms and Jesse Martin are beautiful. Well Done.

Posted by: AJ on 11/23/05 at 06:09 PM

We used to listen to this song off the original sound track years ago before every show/play in high school. Just listening to the opening chords gives me chills!!! Watching the scene in the theatre today made cry!!

Posted by: Blair on 11/23/05 at 06:11 PM

I just wanted to tell everyone that this film was absolutely amazing. I saw it twice today and I loved it, it was everything I was hoping it would be. It doesn't matter what any of the critics think, it seems as though the Rent fans love it (which is all that really matters). Also, alot of other people really love it now too...and I think the movie is spreading the message, whether it's received or not on the critics level, isn't important and certainly is not what Rent is about in the first place. And I just wanted to say thank you to all the actors who came back to a role that they could have easily forgotten about....as so many actors do. And thank you to the two newcomers for letting their enthusiasm for the project shine through in their roles. And thank you to Chris Columbus who did the right thing by casting the originals...no matter what anyone else says about it. This film will live on forever as it should be. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE TO THE ENTIRE CAST, LINDSEY

Posted by: Lindsey on 11/23/05 at 07:03 PM

i just got home from seeing this movie that i have been waiting YEARS to see, i have been a giant fan of the musical for about 9 years now and seen it about 28 times and i will surely see the movie about 100 times..i have tivo all of you to make sure i do not miss an interview or a performance..i am doing 3 songs for my xmas party @work RENT, SEASONS OF LOVE AND NO DAY BUT TODAY..
it is really hard to get people to feel the passion i have for this musical when they have never seen it, so i took about 8 of the people that i picked to perform with me to see the movie.
Boy, what a reaction!!!!!
They LOVED it and now they feel the passion!!!!!
Rent has been a part of my life and i truly live by the words of every song..I have made so many RENTHEADS..i should get royalties!!!!
the movie was great and it took all my self control not to get up and sing along.
i know we will never be as dynamic as you guys, but the passion is in our hearts and souls so we hope to do well..
thank you Jonathan & family for bringing such joy and love to my heart.
to the whole cast, you guys rock harder than anyone i know, i adore your voices and not a day goes by in the last 9 years that i don't listen to the rent cd..I LOVE RENT!!!!!! SO MUCH!!!!

Posted by: Diana on 11/23/05 at 07:05 PM

I loved this movie. It was incredible. Words can not even begin to express how wonderfully amazing, and spectacular this movie was. I can not say enough about this film, it is just amazing.

Posted by: hilary on 11/23/05 at 07:06 PM

I just saw Rent for the 2nd time...and I'm seriously sooo overcome with emotion right now. I don't know what it is...ahh!! Freaking Tracie...at the part when you start crying at the end of "Goodbye Love" (well...the first "movement")...AHH! I can-not-HANDLE-THAT!!!! I can't even describe how much this movie has moved me...I've never seen the musical (feel free to verbally abuse me....NOW!), and I don't know if I will ever be able to afford it, but if not--I'm not heartbroken. This movie delivers Mr. Larson's masterpiece to EVERYBODY. I love the fact that it's rated pg-13, so that's even more people who can see it. It is SO MUCH BETTER THE SECOND TIME! I watched everything under a microscope..every reaction, every bulging neck vein, every tear, every movement. It was all splendid...flawless. Okay I'm offically Tracie's biggest fan. If you need somebody to get your coffe,to wash your car, or to walk your dog-- I'll get the fan club I'm about to form to do it. Hah..okay, no I really have a sickening amount of respect for you, and you've really become an inspiration to me. You are overwhelmingly talented, absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and just amazing. Ahh...but you make me cry, I don't know if I like that...okay yeah I do. GREAT movie, you and Idina make the best couple EVER (besides she and Taye of coarse..), your chemistry was spectacular, and overall: W=O=W! I have to spend Thanksgiving all alone tommarow (only 18..1st time away from home..and literally ALL ALONE!), and I wasn't emotional about it until I saw this movie all about love and community....gah! Oh well-- thanks for making this masterpiece something that EVERYBODY can enjoy FOREVER!

Easily the best movie I've ever seen in theatres. Mr. Columbus, you've even beat out my excitement the night of Harry Potter 1. Congratulations! I'm extremely moved.

Posted by: Claudia on 11/23/05 at 07:24 PM

I saw the first show at the theatre where I live this morning. It was a beautiful movie and it conveyed so much more emotion than when I saw the show in Cincinatti this past winter. Maybe it was the actors, maybe it was the more relaxed surroundings of a movie theatre. But I loved the movie and I loved the cast and it makes it all the better to have been these blogs and hearing what everyone has had to say about the process of the movie. Everyone involved seems to proud of what they've done and they should be. The movie is beautiful, the show is beautiful, and I'm so glad that we've been so included up to this point.

Posted by: Melynda S on 11/23/05 at 07:32 PM

Just saw the movie! Wow, it was AMAZING. I didn't think I was going to cry, but then I just started crying hysterically at the end. Great job!!!

Posted by: Randi on 11/23/05 at 07:35 PM

I just got back from (finally) seeing it and am still very much in awe.

You guys are so amazing and I think I'm just going to move into the movie theater the film is showing in, because I can't get enough of it.

Much Love,
Danielle

I have always been a huge RENThead. I expected to be moved by the movie, but not to the extent that I was. I literally screamed as soon as I heard the music starting, and within SECONDS of the movie beginning, in the first line of SEASONS OF LOVE, I was already crying. It was better than I could have ever imagined. As soon as Adam started ONE SONG GLORY I was sobbing again. Basically throughout the whole movie. You should know that the newspaper where I live (Austin) gave it FOUR STARS!!!!!! It deserves nothing but that.
It is my favorite movie of all time.
THANK YOU.

I just saw the movie and cannot get it out of my head. It was truly beautiful and extremely moving. It translated so well onto the sceen and you could really tell how much all of you love the material! Thank you Mr. Columbus for making this movie and giving so many people the opportunity to see this amazing musical!

Just saw the movie this afternoon and really enjoyed it. It's very hard to make a movie from a play ( I saw the play 4 times) but you guys did it and very well. Great casting and the new folks Tracey Thoms and Rosario Dawson did impressive jobs. Can't wait til this comes out in video it will definately be a hot purchase. Just bought the soundtrack and there are 8 different covers depending on your favorite charachter had to buy 2 Roger and Maureen...Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Posted by: Brian on 11/23/05 at 08:57 PM

i loved the movie and the play soundtrack!!
i really want to see the play now!!

Posted by: Lacey on 11/23/05 at 09:02 PM

The movie was phenomenal!! Such a great cast! I'm so lucky to have had the pleasure of seeing this production on stage 5 years ago and have been obsessed with the CD ever since. I about hyperventilated when the preview came out that there was going to be a movie! I went to see it today and was blown away! You've been able to capture so many intricate details missed on the stage. It was great! But I must say, I loved it in the theater. When I saw it, my head was everywhere on the stage I couldn't tell which way was up. The stage was just a bunch of junky parts that hardly changed from scene to scene. The movie however depicts the loft as of kind of "glamorous". The poor hunger stricken characters all of a sudden had glory. The disease they were fighting was a mere byproduct of living a life "without regret". I enjoyed the theater better. I always will.
The real show stealer in this was the wonderful music! There will never be anything else like it. Absolutely brilliant. Brilliant.

So i just came back from seeing RENT. it was amazing. there are no words to describe it. i have never felt so many emotions durig a movie before. i laughed and i cried through the whole thing. i can still hear the songs, and the amazing voices of the people who sang them. amazingness.

Posted by: Jordana on 11/23/05 at 09:16 PM

I WENT AND SAW THIS MOVIE AND I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT IT WAS AMAZING. I WAS NOT IN THE LEAST BIT DISAPPOINTED. I LAUGHED, I CRIED, I SANG, I DANCED. I CAN NOT BELIEVE HOW WELL YOU GUYS DID!

Anthony: Amazing. What more can I say. I can't think of anyone else I would want to see playing the role of Mark. You did an awesome job.

Adam: WOW! You also did an amazing job. Your Eyes, I was in tears. You rock and did a great job.

Idina: Maureen, my favorite character. What can I say. You were meant for this part. Over the moon, was AMAZING. Take me or leave, GREATNESS. You were perfect in this part in every way! Great Job!

Wilson: OH MY GOD WOW. Angel is such an important role in this show, and you were perfect. Amazing in today for you, and I'll cover you. You did an awesome job!

Traci: WOW, THATS ALL THERE IS TO SAY. What you did with Joanne. Wow, you fit so well into this group of characters, it was like you were the original one. Your voice is amazing.

Rosario: Mimi's portayal was fantastic. you took her to a new depth that i wasn't expecting. Good for you. You did an amazing job.

Jesse: Collins is my second favorite character. Simply because of the I'll cover you reprise. This song is part of what makes the whole show for me. You did the BEST JOB EVER! Not just on the song but the whole film. I laughed and cried and danced with you. It was so wonderful!

Taye: What can i say. I love you! You are the best Benny ever! I loved watching the very beginning when you guys are singing seasons of love, and you start to clap. you look so great and happy. You did an amazing job in this movie, just like i knew you would!

overall guys, this is absolutly one of the best movies i have ever seen. I am so thrilled and can't wait till i see it again. I love the changes that were made because they still stay so true to Jonathan's story. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS MOVIE!!! YOU GUYS SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF THIS FINISHED PRODUCT. IT WAS SO WORTH THE WAIT!!! I want to thank everyone who took part in making this. The actors the crew Chris Columbus the Larson's everyone! Cause it wouldn't be the amazing piece of film that it is without you guys. YOU GUYS ROCK!!

Posted by: Katrina on 11/23/05 at 09:28 PM

Firstly, I just wanted to say how absolutely amazing the movie is. Chris, you did a wonderful job, especially at making things that might have been confusing on the stage much clearer on the screen. I was fortunate to be at the midnight showing at the Ziegfeld (my first time ever!) and what a way to be "de-virginized". Tracie Thoms, I just wanted to say how incredible I think you are. Being a dancer, it's one of the first things I look for...you're not only ripped but you can tango, girlfriend!!! Seeing you sing made me appreciate the soundtrack that much more, you kicked a@$!!! If there are people reading this who haven't seen the movie yet, GO!!! Bring family, friends, lovers, strangers! Can't wait to not only go see it again but can hardly wait till I can watch it over and over at home. Peace and Love (sorry for the length)

Posted by: Melanye on 11/23/05 at 09:43 PM

This was by far the best movie musical I’ve ever seen! I cried so much it was almost ridiculous! I absolutely adored every one of the characters and everyone’s voice just sounded outstanding! Great job team rent! Now I’m even more excited when I go see Rent on stage in New York on New Years Eve this year! I hope it’s just as good! Once again...it was amazing and I can’t wait to go back again and again! Thank you so much!

Thank you for making this movie. . .

Idina, girl, when did you learn to dance? You looked hot and you are truely talented! THAT VOICE! I love it!

Tracie, you are amazing and belong with this cast, rock on girl!
Wilson, you touched my soul in every way!
Adam, you ARE Roger and an amazing actor, thank you!
Jesse, your voice and smile fill this film with such warmth.
Anthony, your talent lights up that screen and you are just wonderful.
Taye, you're a beautiful man with a beautiful voice and now we all know what part of Idina you really fell in love with at first glance!
Rosario, WOW, great job, this movie is lucky to have you in it!

Since 1996 I've been blessed with your talents, but now the rest of the world will have a chance to appreciate you and love you.

I saw the first showing this morning in Los Angeles and loved it!!! I have seen the stage version of this show a few times and was a bit skeptical that the movie could bring the energy of the stage. I was not disappointed. This movie rocks! It is so moving emotionally. It reminds us that life and the people in it are precious. This movie is a celebration of life. I will see it again and again, and already have plans to buy the DVD when it is available. To everyone involved, great job!

Posted by: Mary on 11/23/05 at 10:27 PM

oh my goodness... i just want to applaud all of you for your amazing work on this film. I must say i had my doubts at first, but when i saw the movie every feeling of emotion that i had when i first saw RENT came back to me. It made my laugh and it made me cry. You (the cast) did a wonderful job and i dont believe that it could have been any better. Congratulations.

Posted by: stephanie on 11/23/05 at 10:36 PM

We just seen it here in houston (in limited release). This movie is so amazing not just as a musical, but as a movie. It's impact runs deep and it moves the conscience. The scenes, color, cinematography....everything is first rate. The music is much better than I thought it would be (I haven't bought a CD in 5 years, but I'll buy this one). This is a MUST SEE movie, I can't recommend it enough. It is education for the soul and I'll never understand how they could justify the limited release.....this should be in every theatre from Barrow Alaska to Key Largo Florida....it's just that good.

"No Day But Today"

I don't think I've ever been this excited to see a movie. I took eight of my friends to see it tonight. A few who had never seen the broadway show. I can say this with enthusiastic affirmation - IT ROCKED!!! The movie did not disappoint.

Poignant. Moving. Inspiring. Beautifully done.

Thank you to the entire cast (YOU'VE ALL GOT MADD SKILLZ!!). Thank you Chris Columbus for sticking with the original broadway group. Thank you Jonathan Larson for your vision, your passion, and your wisdom.

Well I just got back from the movie, and I thought it was great. Here's my breakdown on the performances, if anyone cares.

Anthony: You ARE Mark. There is no substitute. Enough said.

Adam: Great performance. And of course, you're sooo sexy. I did notice a Mute poster in the loft. Wasn't that one of your old bands?

Wilson: Aww, you're so adorable. You are absolutely amazing. Loved the pink boots! Haha.

Jesse: Oh wow, where to begin. When you sing the reprise of "I'll Cover You," I can't even explain. It's like a thousand daggers going into my heart. GREAT performance.

Indina: You rock, nuff said.

Rosario: Great voice and body! My god! I work out every day of the week and still don't have a body like that! Great acting as well. Loved the body language and chemistry you had with Adammm during "Light My Candle."

Tracie: Ya got some lung power! Great performance.

And last, but not least, Taye: What can you say about the "yuppie scum?" Good job and good voice.

Ok well obviously my critique could have been a little more in-depth, but I'm tired. Thanks Chris Columbus, Cast, and all others involved in the production of this movie. Also a special thanks to Jonathan Larson and his family.

Peace, Love, Soul

I just saw the movie and I have to tell you that I have never loved Rent more than I do at this moment. You all are absolutely amazing. What an incredable thing you have created. Being able to see everyone's faces and expressions close up made the experience so much more intimate, and even more moving than the usual balcony theatre experience. I'm so glad that the original cast (most of it at least) was captured on film for future generations of Rentheads to see for years to come. I have so much respect and love for everyone involved in this movie and this show. Thank you all so much. Nikki

ok so i have had possibly one of the worst weeks of my life. to start with, i've had a major flu since wednesday of last week, my boyfriend and i broke up on saturday, and i had a performance that didn't go too great on friday haha. we all have our weeks i guess. so this movie is what i have been waiting for to take all of it away. i've been counting down since they announced the release date. like i had a countdown clock on my desktop, i had it all over my web page, i told my friends about it every time i had the chance, and it was written all over my calendar. i may be obsessed but i mean who isn't obsessed once they've heard RENT? so today i saw it twice with some friends. the first time i saw it i seriously broke down. when without you came on i was bawling. i'm a little emotional lately. but every scene in the movie was worth every second of waiting. it was absolutely perfect in my mind and chris columbus did a great job of keeping it true to the play. after everything that's gone on this week i was starting to think that nothing could cheer me up but this movie just like made my life. it was seriously the most beautiful movie i've ever seen. i just wanted to thank everyone who worked on the film for making my life a little bit brighter today. it was amazing to finally see.

I just came home from watching RENT and it was just fantastic! It's like seeing it for the first time, all over again! I've seen the musical years ago and instantly fell in love with it, so I was absolutely thrilled to find out that it was being made into a movie. Anyway, I want to congratulate the whole cast and crew, and the Larson family, for a wonderful job in putting this beloved musical on the big screen. I laughed, I cried, I sang along, it was one of the best movie-going experiences I've had in years! I am going to see it again and again, that's for sure! And when the DVD comes out, I will definitely purchase it!

To Adam, Anthony, Jesse, Wilson, Taye, Idina - I am so thrilled that they cast you in the movie and decided not to go with other actors. It wouldn't have had the same profound effect it had on me (and a lot of people) if you guys weren't in the film. It really wouldn't be the same without you guys. And this will show the whole world what phenomenal talents you guys truly are. Thanks for the inspiration.

To Rosario and Tracie - you were both AMAZING! In my humble opinion, you did the characters justice!
Congratulations to you both!

And for those of you who haven't seen it, RUN to the theatres and see the movie, pronto!

Collins, Mark and Angel, Mimi and the rest of the gang great as ever. Best movie of 2005 for me.

I am planning on seeing the Broadway show during the Christmas holiday. I have high hopes for it as the reviews are awesome!

Well, all i have to say is that the movie is worth going to see.... The song sets the stage of the play... it is a must have soundtrak

Posted by: camille on 11/24/05 at 03:28 AM

HI, again! Well, this clip is awesome! They could not have started this movie any better. I had goosebumps just seeing them standing there. I wanted to sing and clap right along with them! For anyone who hasn't seen the broadway play, GO SEE IT! My husband and I are huge RENTheads and we go every single year to NYC to see it for our anniversary. We were just there in SEPTand it was awesome! I know that people are partial to the originals (as am I ) but the cast that is now are something to check out.Cary Shields has an amazing voice(and he is not bad to look at either!) and Matt Caplan is awesome as mark(he is sooo funny). Everytime he looked over at me in the theatre I just had this huge smile on my face. We plan on seeing it again today. I stayed till the last credit rolled past on the screen(I didn't want it to end!) and this one girl who was there too summed up the whole thing for me. She said"thank you Jonathan" I could've cried.

I saw the OBC the summer the show opened with my then 8-year old daughter (we had a long talk before-hand about the language that was in the show). She turns 18 tomorrow (11/25) and we went to see the movie on opening day. Tracie, let me tell you that I absolutely loved your Joanne. You brought a poise & polish along with a sweet vunerability to the character that was not there on Broadway. I cried all the way through the movie just because I was so excited & pleased with the way it turned out. Brava to you and kudos to all the cast & crew. Great show!!!

Clapped and sang along with it...I love the movie..dying for it to be out on video already.

Everyone was great....Tango: Maureen, Today 4 u, I'll Cover You, Light My Candle, Out tonight, and Take me or leave...were my favorites.

I had never seen Rent on-stage, but heard a lot of people talk about it. Last night, through some long and in-depth accident, my friends and I ended up seeing Rent, and I must say that I was soooo impressed with the movie, the music, and the acting. Even though I have never seen Rent before, the movie is easily one of my favorite films now, and i've spent all night downloading the music off of i-tunes and searching the web for the history of Rent and such. I just want to congratulate all of you on such an amazing movie, it really touched me.

So first off, let it be know that 30 of my friends and I dressed up as the characters from the show and waited in line for hours to see the LATE NIGHT showing of RENT. They had to bring out the ropes to form the long line.

This movie moved me. I nearly peed my pants when the screen went black and rent appeared. The audience started to scream and i couldn't believe that we were all there together to watch this great film. We clapped after every number and even sang along at times. We sobbed. Man, did we sob! It was a great movie. The movie brought all of us together. After it was over, we couldn't help but just hug eachother, say how much we love eachother, and sing along with the credit music.

I think i'm gunna go catch the next showing tonight.

AMAZING JOB. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE TEN YEAR WAIT.

Wow. This. Movie. Is. AMAZING!

We're all theater rats, so of course we went on opening night. I, unlike my friends, hadnt heard much of the movie. Just cause they are musical obsessed and I'm not. But, my goodness. This soundtrack is all I'll belistening to for weeks. And I plan on going again this weekend. And most likely ever weekend until it's out of theaters. Then, of course, the dvd...

Amazing.

Aaaah. So good. I saw the movie yesterday. With my friends. And then I was watching these clips again. Just ... Aah. Brilliant! Like ... I can't say. I could go on this huge rant about it. My friends and I were all clinging to each other during Without You and I'll Cover You - Reprise. And, I suddenly appreciate the relationship between Roger and Mimi so much more.

Amazing job, you guys! You can't even begin to understand. I mean, I thought the stage version was powerful. The movie is awesome. Better than that. Omg. I'm ranting. Just. Wow.

Thank you!!!

Tracie, i TOTALLY saw you on wednesday after Idina's show. (the show was over and we were leaving the theater. you asked the usher lady where the stage door was.) i was ALREADY blown away from seeing Idina freaking Menzel perform so close up, and then i got to walk out of the Public behind YOU! don't mean to be, um, creepy, but i was definitely a little giddy after that. bahaha.

The movie was WONDERFUL!! It meant so much to me. I have loved RENT since it first came out, when I was 16. Tracie, you were superb!!

Posted by: Katey on 11/25/05 at 08:41 AM

Well I just watched the view and you all were so cute!! I enjoyed watching it so much, seriously! I can't get enough of you!! It's sad thease things will eventually come to an end (soon...darn Tracy moving to CA for a movie with unknowns [being sarcastic about the unknowns]), but I'm glad I got to experience this movie and see the real sides of you guys as well. It made watching the movie so much more enjoyable after seeing thease blogs and random t.v. appearances. You guys are an amazing cast and I love just watching you guys be together. Tracie I love you a ton, there's something about you that just glows and it's difficult to not watch you on screen! Everybody is magical though...like the one host said about Wilson catching magic in a bottle-- that's how I feel about him and everybody in this movie. There's just something that entrances me..and makes me want to come back over and over! I actually saw the movie "Bee Season" yesterday (I had seen RENT twice and I thought I'd give it a break), but it was actually difficult to pass up the theatre with the music coming out of it! And when left, you could hear the song "Rent" from outside (barely), and I couldn't help but just stand there and soak it in for a mintute. AMAZING. I wish I could say something different from everybody else about how great you guys are and the movie is, but just know that it has stolen my heart, and I'm watching y'all under a microscope to follow your next projects. WONDERFUL, SPLENDID, MAGNIFICANT! I love you guys!! Thanks soooo much!

(Oh, and I'm not going to act like it wasn't my favorite part when that girl asked Taye about Idina kissing another woman, and Tracie's little attitude she struck up there...PRICELESS. You guys are hilarious.)

Tracie Thoms, you are amazing. Your vocal range=incredible. Your acting range=incredible. I have to say that one of my favorite parts in the movie is during the "I will cover you reprise" and you hit that amazing high note with "Oh...a thousand sweet kisses." Your expression and the purity of your sound is what broke me. it was so passionate, and so honest. I've loved RENT forever. JoAnn was never a character that really spoke to me. Freddi did a great job, don't get me wrong...but you have brought such a great energy and such a great life to the character that JoAnn is now one of my favorites. I'm not sure if you still read these, now that the movie has opened, I'm sure you're doing alot of press stuff right now. But I have a couple questions. I am an actor and singer, I'm in high school and plan on pursing musical theater as a career one way or another. I was wondering if you had any advice...not as to how to get famous or get in to get into the biz, that doesn't matter to me. Rather like you process and how you connect your acting with your singing and how you release after heightening your emotions so much? Another thing, I collect signed headshots of actors that I respect and admire. I would love a signed headshot of you. I'm not sure if you email me back or how this works. But thank you for doing what you do and for sharing your gifts in such a wonderful production like RENT.

Hey cast!

I just want to say I think that this movie is something special to me. I originally found out about rent last year when I was in 8th grade. My choir group was planning on singing Seasons of Love for our spring concert. What ended up happening was everyone was always worrying about what solo they were going to get and if the teacher was going to rearrange the music so that everyone would be able to have a solo. Since this happened, the whole piece just sorta went down into flames and the quality of the song just didn't sound right, so our teacher just said since you guys can't work on the balance of the three parts, then we can't do the piece. After that, I made a promise to myself that I would try to find this song and memorize it, every note, every word, every single piece of that song. It wasn't until a while though that I actually found more out about rent.

Over the summer is when I actually started getting into the Broadway world. My mom, my two brothers and I all went out to look for a present for my mom's boyfriend for fathers day at the mall. I asked if I could just look inside Borders and see what they had. Sure enough, I found it. Not rent, but Wicked, on the top sellers rack. I remember my uncle saying something about this musical and saying how it was based on the Wizard of Oz and how it was sort of a back story that followed the life of Glinda and Elphaba. I picked it up, looked at some of the song titles and recognized another song: Defying Gravity. (Idina's BIG song) We were also going to do that song last year in choir, but the music wouldn't mail out until two weeks before our concert, so we had to give up the great idea. I bought the cd, thinking it was going to be another backstreet boys type of thing, because I had never heard a musical before. When I listened to that cd, Idina sing those notes in Defying Gravity, For good, and no good deed, I was astonished. I could not believe what I had just heard! Idina and Kristen made the perfect team for the note combinations in the composition. I think that Idina was my inspiration for getting into Broadway.

The next cd that I purchased was The best of Broadway: The American Musical. I thought that this time I would get a little sample of everything that was in the world of 42nd street and Cats. The first song on the cd was one that we did sing in choir and was one that I knew all the words to- There's No Business like Show Business. I had thought Rent would be on there, but it wasn't. I was a little mad, but i had then known a little background information on some of the ones that were on the cd, like Annie get your gun, Cats, West Side Story, and the Phantom of the Opera, because we had watched little bits and pieces of each movie.

When I opened the cd, I noticed a little paper fall out saying "Buy the dvd set that started it all." I had thought "Maybe rent will be on there." I read on- a behind the scenes of Wicked. That's probably what convinced me to buy this dvd package. At that time, I was a little obsessed with Wicked. I had the book, the sequel, the sound track all memorized, the karaoke sound track, and the piano book. I was a little wicked nerd. When I started to watch the third disc, I skipped ahead to some of the plays that I did know like Cats, and The lion King. Then, the next title was "one Song Glory." I had thought about it and said to myself "That can't be the title of a musical, but of a song. It must be something pretty recent, because the lion king came out in the 90s as well as some other plays." Then it hit me. Rent had come out in 1996. I watched on and sure enough it was Rent. I was soooooo...ooo excited. When One Song Glory started to play, I listened really closely at the words. I knew a little bit about the play, but not much, only that it was about aids. When Adam Pascal came on the TV, I said "MAN! That guy can REALLY sing!" I showed my mom's boyfriend and my mom this section of the video, and my mom's boyfriend recognized one person... "Hey, isn't that the guy from Law and Order?" I didn't know cause I didn't watch that shoe. Sure enough Jesse L. Martin was on Law and Order. I immediately fell in love with this play. After Seasons of Love came on the dvd, I officially declared that I was going to buy the sound track.

Before I had even asked to go buy the sound track, my birthday had rolled around the corner. I really hoped that I would get something useful, not like something I would use once and then throw in the closet for three years and never see it again. I received the Hairspray sound track, along with a few other items. The I saw it. When I saw the R, I knew what it was: Rent- The complete 2 disc Broadway Sound track. I was extatic! I started listening to it and thought I heard a familiar voice. I looked at the credits for the person who played Mark Cohen, which happened to be Anthony Rapp. I took out another one of my cd's, and sure enough. Anthony Rapp- aka Charlie Brown.

Your a good man, Charlie brown. I had bought this cd when I was watching the best of the Tony's and saw Kristen Chenoweth playing Sally brown singing My new Philosophy. She's the one that convinced me to buy this cd. I thought Anthony had been the perfect part for Charlie Brown. He is so unique. Everyone has their own unique qualities, especially in Rent. Mark is a film maker (I have also made some movies, one of which had won third place in a movie contest), Roger is a musician (which I am also, I am trying to learn to play the guitar. The piano is easy, but its hard for me to learn the guitar when other things happen throughout the day and I have no time for it and I sorta forget about it), Maureen is a person who doesn't care what everyone else thinks (and she's also a flirt), Joanne is a production manager who knows her stuff (If ya know what I mean), Collins is just one of those innocent guys who just wants to keep the family together, Benny is the one who is a little but selfish, but in his own little way and he's very sneaky. Last, Angel is the drag queen of the group who has actually helped the group come a long way. Angel helped Mark and Roger by giving them a little bit of cash from killing Benny's Akita Evita, along with paying for everything at the Cafe. Angel helped the group more than most people know.

When I went to see the movie, I thought that you guys could not have interpreted it better.I liked how the play itself was drawn out a little bit, like the way it is interpreted in the play, everything happens on Christmas eve. In the movie, it's drawn out a little bit more. I am really proud of you guys and I hope that everything works out for the best and I hope I hear more about you in the near future.

I had seen the fottage on here and was quite a fan, but NOW, now I have TRUE AND DEEP respect for you as a fellow actor and singer. You were phenominal.

THIS SONG IS AWESOME!!!!!!!! WE HAVE TO SING THIS SONG AT MY SCHOOL

Posted by: h2o on 11/26/05 at 09:51 AM

Hey Guys!!! This is for all of the cast and really anyone who had anything to do with the movie. I wasnt sure where to put this but i figured that here at least one of you may find it and show the others. I just wanted to say that by the time the movie had been out two days i had seen it three times. Two days before it even opened at a preview showing and then once a day the first two days it was out. I love it. This movie really reached out and touched me as well as my friends. Now, maybe thats because we are all in theatre at our school (where we just finished "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, I was Sally) and theatre is what we understand (and what i hope to pursue in my life) but this movie is what I call "life changing". This movie has given me a new appriciation for life and love. This movie has made my desire to pursue theatre even stronger because if i can reach people with my performance the way that each and everyone of you reached me, then i've reached my life goal. I just thought that you guys would like to know how your work has really touched peoples lives and how inspirational the movie was so...BRAVO! to anyone and everyone that helped in the making of this film I can't wait till Rent comes back through on the stage so i can go see it. Hey, maybe one day when i make it on Broadway i'll get to meet some of you guys lol thanks again~Celeste

Some reviewers have lost their minds. This movie was fantastic! I haven't been moved that much in a theater in a long time. There are several Oscar caliber performances in this film.

Posted by: Tim on 11/26/05 at 03:10 PM

I just want to say the movie was wonderful. I agree it was perfectly done. Dismiss any critical notions, because, it was so much more than a film, and it's even broader than it's initial intent. I think art is the most informative medium to express itself and any truth that needs to be shared. I hope that this movie will reach audiences far and wide, and open their hearts and minds. I also hope it will move feet and hands to want to create positive change. More people joining the fight to find a cure for aids, and to support those living with it..opens the door for solutions.

Stunning, stunning, stunning, stunning song!! I can't sit through this song without crying! The whole casts'love for eachother, and the movie was displayed in every scene, and I'd definitely say this scene is the strongest. I started bawling as soon as the voices came in. And when Tracie held that note i said "Yeah YOU GO GIRL!!!!" =) I think this song really defines what the movie is like...gorgeous, amazing, inspiring, beautiful and so much more. I can't thank you guys enough!!

*hugs* <3Maureen.

I'm just a 14 year old girl from Wisconsin, and I just got home from Rent and i can't even express my feelings! i laughed and cried through this whole movie. I had never seen the actual Broadway play, but when i saw previews i knew i Had to go. I've always loved any kind of plays, and musicals. Acting and Singing are 2 of the things in life that i cherish most. This film has opened my eyes to maybe what i might want to do in life. i've been involved in many musicals in my time and i Appreciate this movie like you would not believe. Rent is such a truly inspiring and awesome movie i can't even say it enough. It teaches so many good life-lessons and will open up anybody's heart. After the movie i went straight to Best Buy and bought the soundtrack. I've been singing these songs everywhere!! I can already tell i'll be listening to this soundtrack on my iPod for the next month non-stop if not longer! Wow. All of the cast: You All Did So Amazing!! You all have so much talent and i'm so honored i go to see this film! Ahhhhh! Thank you for doing this movie! No matter how many 'bad' reviews you get from this movie, (i don't know why people are so stupid).. but just remember there are at least 10 or more Great reviews and Opinions. Don't stop doing what you're doing! Much Much Much Love and Peace. and Once again, Great Job!!

I've never seen the play, but the movie has to be one of my favorites of all time. It was passionate and raw, and the music stays with you. I've been listening to the soundtrack ever since I got out of the movie! I'm gonna see it with my friends at least 2 more times. Much thanks for making this movie, to all those involved.

Hello RENT Community,
I have now seen this fantastic movie twice since its opening date and I plan to see it again; I just can't get enough!!! Excellent job to the producers, director, staff, and most importantly to the actors who brought the play's powerful message of love and hope to the BIG screen. I was saddened to read the poor reviews it received and those reviews seemed to have been written by critics who live with their heads in the sand. AIDS is a pandemic and the message of Jonathon Larson's play still needs to be heard loud and clear. I loved the play and loved the movie. Again, great job to all those involved in making this production come to life.

Ok...it's official, I'm a RENT-head! It hit me so unexpectedly! I went with Jake to see a movie, 'RENT' which I've never actually heard of...and by the end of the openning song, I was caught in a trance. Now I'm going on my 5th!!! time to see this musical! I have never been so obsessed! or perhaps it's just the fact that I can't stop staring at Tracie Thoms!
But it's more than just the movie, it's a revelation. Imagine if schools would start to have this performed by their drama classes? Oh sure, Chicago is understandable! Girls in lingerie, killing men and lying in public...but gays?! with AIDS?! trying to make a difference?! HOW OBSCENE! ...Catch my drift? ; )
The fact that something can be so in your face realistic, and still at the ending of every show, each night a new crowd - still obtain a round of applause and a flow of unexpecting tear fall! I'm in awe. I go for more than the film itself....I'm learning - people watching if you will... I know, I'm a dork... but hey - I love to learn about human nature. After, I sit and listen to the surrounding conversations. I notice how many peole are stunned, overwhelmed, and motionless. I see who has the courage or better, who hasn't any will power to obtain the tears. I listen for the laughs, the breath of shock, the whimper of disbelief...
Now, I know this may be a bit much... But all i'm trying to get across is that: the arts can make a difference. So many people are touched in so many ways. I just want you to find out for yourself if this can do something, anything for you... even if it's just a night of entertainment.
~GO SEE RENT!~
I'm not telling you to become a rent-head like me.... I may have just gone insane... : P
But do the cause a favor, and support the change of a new era.
Now, if you do so happen to become a rent-head...I have no problem if you come to me for supprot! LOL I have found so many resources for further information that I would be more than happy to share with you!
NO day but today.....

Only 1 word to describe the movie "Rent" - unbelievable. Unbelievable because I'm amazed how many different emotions are stirred while watching this film. Sort of an emotional rollercoaster. Unbelievable because I was so involved watching I didn't want to blink. I SO REGRET never taking the opportunity to see the stage production.

Posted by: Jacki on 11/28/05 at 04:21 PM

Well, I went to see this movie with my husband Robert and I was blown away. I never did see the play and I had no idea what the movie or the play was all about. But when the movie started with "Seasons of Love" and listened to the words, my concentration was captured and I was literally glued to the screen. I was very moved and touched by the movie... I could not beleive how it raised so many emotions within me... Finally, there is a movie that I can relate to... GO AND SEE IT.... TAKE SOME KLEENEX WITH YOU.... Peace - Fadi in Toronto Canada...

So I am finally posting my first message. I have been a renthead since I saw the play I think about two years ago and was thrilled to hear news of a movie coming out.

To the cast- thank you so much for taking the time to post blogs for your loyal audience! It makes the RENT movie experience that much better. I have seen many interviews with you and agree with the comment many of you have made, the film is so much more personal and intimate than the play! The play is an astounding musical, but the movie reaches a completely different level.
The chemistry and love between Roger and Mimi is moving, Adam and Rosario- you two made your characters into real people that I connected to.
Mark's life could be a mirror of mine- I am an aspiring film maker who won't sell out! Anthony you bring a honesty to Mark that can't be beat.

Maureen and Joanne are perfect matches for Idina and Tracie- both of you are my musical inspirations because of your beautiful voices.

I missed a couple things from the play, like the back story to Benny and Mimi. That was simplified for the film- no complaints though becuase I have seen the film four times and really wouldn't change a thing. Taye you played your part well, you had a great charisma about you and were so natural.
Collins is like the best friend we all want to have and I am so drawn to Jesse L. Martin because you are so darn versatile as an actor! Gritty on Law and Order and so full of life as Collins!
Angel I saved you for last becuase your spirit is of course the pinnacle of the story and Wilson Jermaine Heredia you are brilliant. You send the message of RENT out loud and clear about love and acceptance, something I needed to be reminded of and EVERYONE can take to heart.

One more shout out to Adam - your cd Civilian is stunning, I am either listening to you or the Stones or the OBC rent sound track. Now though I may switch to the movie sound track of RENT becuase everybody's voices are beautiful and the original cast is flawless and Rosario and Tracie transcend their character's emotions into the song like no one's business.
And every single member of the crew and cast and Chris and Jon Larson are to thank for the RENT experience. I wish you could get an Oscar for best ensemble or something, because the cast would be nothing without Jon or Chris, Jon and Chris would be nothing without such an amazing cast, and each member of the cast is perfect for their role on film.
Thank you to cast for putting in all your time to bring such wonderful characters to life. Thank you to Chris because you understood RENT and made this film so beautiful.
And thank you Jonathon Larson, he understood life.

allright, i'm done.

THIS MOVIE WAS THE BOOM IT HAVES ROMANCE AND IT MAKES YOU CRY....THIS MOVIE CAN MAKE YOUR DAY MORE JOYFUL....SO GO SEE IT NOW BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST....

Posted by: Beatriz on 12/02/05 at 05:25 AM

You know, some part of me was hoping against hope that this movie would be awesome, but still flop in theatres.

This is not because I'm malicious or bear any ill will toward the people involved in the project though!

See, I've been entranced by Tracie Thoms (yes you, m'dear--you're a STAR!) since "As If," dudes. I have Wonderfalls on DVD because it was a wooonderful show (duh, it was made my Tim Minear, who works with Joss Whedon, who is a lesser god only to Sondheim himself), but that got cancelled too.

In the end, I became a double major in Literature and Film at UC Santa Cruz, and I'm working on all sorts of projects. What I really wanted, though, was to somehow trick Tracie Thoms into thinking she wasn't actually famous, trick her even more into being in something I wrote and directed, and then have it released and let her realise that she was famous all along, but that the experience was so great that she wouldn't really mind me tricking her all those times.

In the end, I'm going to settle for this comment and writing to her to tell her what a great job she's done. I can't think of anybody who deserves this more than she does. Damn girl, you can't let that talent go to waste!

VERY VERY URGENT NEWS

Dear Ms Tracie Thoms;
I am as well a professional singer. Ive been in opreas, musical and ive recorded many of my own songs. When i heard that high not you sang i had to try it for my self. I found i could hit it but i wasnt getting the right vibrato at the end and i kept running out of air to quickly. I was getting alittle frustrated with myself because i knew it was easy for me to hit. So i closed my eyes and thought about everything that moved me deeply including Seasons of Love and the whole rent movie. I just relaxed and let go of everything i had. And people said my voice soared like yours did in the movie. Many of my friend say i sound just like you in tone. But i only 15 and i have a ways to go to reach you. When i get signed when im older (my parents want me to have a child hood first) I hope my vocie is as beautiful and talented as yours

All my Love and support

One fine day I, Michelle, went to go see a movie awhile ago called Bewitched.....Then the RENT commercial cam on, it was the best thing ever, the song Seasons of love is such a moving song.My friends and I at the same time said "We must see that movie!!" I would rate it a 5 star.
Thank you tracie for inspiring me too become a better singer, even though i am the best in my class (i am not modest ok...jk) (:

i had to sing your part for a local theatre group and i loved every min of it ! it was so amazing to acually see the movie or any sence of seeing what was going on in the show because i never saw the broadway play or anything and i always wondered and amagined what the singers would look like on stage when they were singing their songs and it was amazing to acually see it happen! <3

Tracie.. i've seen rent twice so far and of course going back... again. Although no one may ever fill fredi's shoes i honestly feel you have placed your own shoes next to hers. You exceeded everyone's initial expectations and made the role of Joanna your own. Now im a "rent-head".. and flying alllll the way to nyc in january to see it on broadway ((thanks jerk)) haha just kidding.. goodluck in the future!

Tracie...I have to admit that I am quite a RENThead and absolutely LOVED your ownership of the all too famous solo in Seasons of Love. It was amazing that the film started in such a low-key, but dramatic fashion, but, girl, you really stole it! My friends and I were talking about the fact that we had our money's worth once that scene ended.

So yes, congratulations on an incredible performance of one of the most amazing songs in Broadway musical history! You have an amazing voice, and I look forward to following your success.

I'm writing this now because I missed the opportunity to say this to you in the bakery yesterday afternoon. I was so surprised that you were so cool that I didn't get a chance to say congratulations and offer you well wishes.
