Cast, Crew & Fans,

Happy Thanksgiving! I went and saw the movie the day it opened, unfortunately, here in Denver, there was no 12 o'clock showing!

The movie was amazing; so well done! I wanted to thank the cast and crew for making such an amazing movie. You all have so much to be proud of. The love of the show came out from the director, scenary, costumes, musicians, actors and the list continues.

I am sad that there appears to be some negative reviews of the movie. Those reviewers obviosuly do not understand. The movie was made beautifully. It cannot be exactly like the stage version. There are so many wonderful things that movies can do, that the stage cannot. I was nervous when the movie was announced, worried if it was not going to be like the stage version, but I've seen it onstage 3 times and will see the movie many times more. I cannot wait until it is released on DVD!

Thank you all so much for what you have done! I wonder how long with this website be open? Thank you to the webmaster, Anthony, the rest of the cast, Chris and everyone who has kept this going.

Great job!

AMAZING!!

That's the only thing I can say! My best friend and I went to New York for a screening of the movie @ the symphony space on tuesday, and we were blown away!! Anthony, Tracie, Adam and Wilson, thank you so much for taking time out of your scheduals to talk to us! We totally appreciate it!

Another great clip. Rosario has won me over. I saw the first showing on Wednesday and loved the movie. I am disappointed that our local ABC station has decided to show football rather than The View which has devoted the entire hour to the cast of RENT today.

This is my favorite song! I just have to tell you guys that I dragged my sister to see this movie, I have already seen it twice and she doesn't like musicals, well at the end of the movie I asked her what she thought, and she was bawling her eyes out. She said that it was the best movie she had ever seen. So now she is listening to the movie soundtrack non stop. Thanks!

Great clip. LOVED THE MOVIE!! You were really great!

I think Mimi was my favorite character. She just seemed so new and vibrant for a character. I think Dawson did a great job, along with all the other cast members of bringing thier unique characters to life. Just had to put that in.

Aww rosario -- you are soo beautiful! how did you balance on the fire escape and still dance?! I would have fallen!!

Seen the movie 3 times already, going for my fourth tonight :D

Posted by: Lindsey on 11/25/05 at 11:20 AM

YAY! I'm so glad Rent fans are all approving of this film. I've cried each time I've seen it- and although i think the stage version is the one pure and most passionate form of Rent- this movie does the stage version justice.

Mr.Columbus- thank you for delivering.

Posted by: Maggie on 11/25/05 at 11:25 AM

OMG!!! The movie was AMAZING!!! I have already seen it three times and I am going again today! Don't listen to the stupid critics. They have no clue what is so incredible about RENT or the power and feeling behind the story and each of the characters. Chris Colombus, you did an awesome job and thank you sooo much for making this movie!

Posted by: Avital on 11/25/05 at 11:30 AM

Rosario- you blew us all out of the water and made all of the Rentheads happy with the new casting choice. Congrats! You rock.

RENT IS SOOO GREAT!!! i cant stop telling people to go see it. ive waited so long for this, and it couldnt have been more perfect! all of you are so talented, and funny, and beautiful, and thank you so much. words cant even do it! xoxo

Love Always,
Amanda Sharp

p.s. rosario, i wanted to tell you a little story-i sang out tonight for my audition for my schools musical (bye bye birdie), and the piano player couldnt play it, so i just sang REALLY loud over the heinous sounds the piano was making, and had the song running in my head, cause ive listened to it everyday for like 4 years. it probably sounded awful, but hey- you were in my thoughts as i did the hoochie dance for my teacher (embarrassing, but theatrical no less) anyway i thought you should know that you did an amazing job, and YOU ROCK! so do you all, i love you guys so much it hurts!!!! XOXOXOXO

Rosario, you were so inspiring as Mimi in the movie! You really emphasized how funloving and carefree Mimi is. And that made it even more depressing that someone so young with so much life could have those problems with drugs.

Great job! Your performance really makes me want to go out and live my life not caring what people might think, and with no inhibitions.

Posted by: Eva on 11/25/05 at 12:10 PM

omg I just wanted to say what an amazing movie this was. I saw it the day it came out here and I was so impressed. I'm going to see it again! ah it was so good!

I'm So Excited for this song when i see the movie on sunday! It's definetly awesome!!

Posted by: Kristen on 11/25/05 at 01:25 PM

The movie came out wednesday and I've already seen it three times! I can't help it...On wednesday I caught the earliest showing - 10:20am...I had to leave college after my math class, drive for half an hour to another town, watch the movie, and then make it back in time for physics. Since then I've taken my sister and another friend to experience the wonderful transition to the bigscreen. I've even spent like half an hour prepping friends with no prior exposure to Rent.

One of my favorite scenes was the way they actually put mimi at the cat scratch club dancing during "please take me," as opposed to just the random dancing in the street during the play. Rosario Dawson did an incredible job with the song, and I have to say that she makes a great contribution to the spirit and enthusiasm of the movie.

I was also a bit worried when I heard the new recording of seasons of love on the tv preview that after eight years the cast members wouldn't be able to vocally commit to the songs, but again, I was wrong! It's like going to a concert expecting the live version to sound just like the studio recordings; each time it's sung there's a new creative force driving the tune, and the changes in the songs were incredible.

"How we gonna pay" is one of my favorite video renditions, and I like the direction Tom Collins' character went; Jesse L. Martin had to have fun with that role.

I would go into greater detail with specific interpretations that just floored me, but I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone else.
There's just obviously so much emotion and dedication behind all that was created this time around with the movie, I don't have any complaints!
Well done.

ahh amazing! you are so increadibly awsome as mimi! i love it!!

Posted by: sarah on 11/25/05 at 01:40 PM

Rosario--

You're so awesome! You took to this role as one of the newbies and put your heart and soul into every line of every song. You proved to all of us RENTheads that you belong right up there with the original cast! Congratulations on a wonderful performance!

Great clip.

Saw the movie twice on Wednesday. I was going to watch it a third time, for the final showing of the evening, but after seeing it at 4 and 7, I was so emotionally drained... I just couldnt do it again.

I'll see it again sometime this weekend, a time or two more. I really was happy with how it turned out, as a true rent-head. However, I did really missed Mark/Roger arguing during Goodbye Love. Being that Mark is my favorite character and that I so very much identify with him, I also really missed Halloween, which was one of my favorite songs -- but I do understand why both were cut, it could have been too much.

The theatre was awash in teary eyes after the 4pm show. Even people who I was around who had never seen the musical were crying. My rent-head friends and I were all crying. Same thing at the 7pm show, just with many more people in the theatre. It really was a sight to see.

Good job, everyone ... and truely, THANK YOU.

I don't think I need to say this, but your performance was MARVELOUS!!!!! You really are an incredibly gifted woman, and I'm proud to see you go from Josie and the Pussycats (which I'll admit is one of the most awesome movies...soo hilarious!) and playing the insecure-ish part to being in one of the biggest movies of the year! You're unbelieveable, I'm watching out for your next project!!!

To cast and crew--

Wow. What an amazing movie. Our dreams are to be on broadway and you all are totally an inspiration. We are from new orleans, and we think this city really needed to hear the message of rent. Thanks so much! Jeanie and Katie

Oh my god! Best movie I've seen in AGES! I saw the show live on a national tour last year, it was a 2 hour drive to get to the city, but well worth it. The storyline and the talent of the actors is just awesome. Keep up the great work! Also, Rosario and Tracie, for being new additions, you two fit in just perfect!

Posted by: Carley on 11/25/05 at 04:55 PM

That was definately one of my favorite parts of the movie. It made me want to sit on a fire escape on the top floor of some random apartment building, but then I remembered that I would most likely fall and die and would then never be able to see RENT again. But yeah, I love RENT.

Well, no one's commented on this yet, so let me be the first (for this clip, at least) to congratulate you, Rosario, on the fantastic job you did in the movie. "Out Tonight" sounds even better than the OBC recording, "Light My Candle" looked awesome (you do have a nice ass, by the way...) and the "I Should Tell You" scene with Adam was beautiful. Hearing your story about growing up in NYC just like these characters really inspired me and made me appreciate your performance even more. You are beautiful and talented and really stepped up and took on this important role. The movie is amazing and I'm looking forward to seeing you in many more amazing roles!

Posted by: David on 11/25/05 at 05:16 PM

Awesome! Rosario, you're strip dance during this song made me wonder how the movie got a PG-13 rating. ;) Still, it was awesome, and I can't believe you didn't have to take lessons!

And you guys WOULD cut it right before the kiss.

Posted by: Haley on 11/25/05 at 05:41 PM

This movie was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen I do not know how u can fit so many emotions into one piece of art. I could watch this over and over again. Mimi and roger had so much chemistry. Alsoo u showed everytype of relationship along with letting people know how much u should cherish what u have it was amazing!!!!!!!!

Posted by: allison on 11/25/05 at 05:47 PM

I saw the movie on Wednesday and it has taken me over completely, mind and body. I can listen only to the soundtrack and I watch all the clips several times per day. Everything is incredible and you, the actors, have captured me entirely. Thank you so much. I can't get Rent out of my mind. Rosario is amazing in this song. Everyone is amazing. You all were beyond incredible. I only heard of Rent this year; now it will be a part of me forever. Thank you.

Just saw the movie an hour ago.

Since I am a filmmaker, I have to say that from a cinematic standpoint it was flawless: so, my hat goes off to you Chris. All the tracking shots and framing were well done. Furthermore, I am not usually a fan of musicals and I thought all the acting was well done and I remained entranced throughout the entire movie. Good job Adam, Anthony, Idina, Jesse, Tracie, Wilson, Taye and Rosario (and also all the crew, they deserve a lot of credit also: first and second AD's, producers, grips, dp, etc) Hope everything works out for you guys.

Posted by: Cedric on 11/25/05 at 11:04 PM

I just got back from seeing the film -- and wow it was great! I'm definitely a big fan of the music and the Broadway show, but I could not have asked for a better film adaptation! I was in shock actually, because some of the tabloid reviews were lukewarm at best. I'm definitely going to see it again! And tell friends. For fans of the downtown New York scene, I also have to recommend a recent novel that people have mentioned in connection with Rent; this book is called The Losers' Club by Richard Perez; it's also about Alphabet City and the East Village in the 90s. Anyway ... a fantastic job with this film! And I love the final montage and closing shot on the Angel. Very unexpected and even daring. A beautiful film! I also look forward to the DVD and seeing all the extras and deleted scenes. I hope this film gets nominated for best picture! It deserves to win!

Hi everyone,
I saw the film on Wednesday and I'm going again tomorrow (and again and again and again), I went in feeling prepared for what I was about to see but I was still completley overwhelmed. I must say the movie experience was one of the most emotional moments of my life. I cried from the moment "Seasons of Love" started until just before "You'll See Boys" out of pure joy and the feeling of 'at last after 8 years of waiting, I will be able to see this show with these people.' I was composed until "Without You" and I think I cried through the entire rest of the movie, the credits and half way home... it was so draining and emotional- I have never seen a movie that was so beautiful and so heartbreaking and so inspiring all at once. Thank you, thank you.
I had so many favorite moments, I would be citing every moment of the film if I tried to name them all, but the added dialouge was wonderful and funny and worked really well, the last image was the most beautiful close to a film I have ever seen, the acting and singing across the board was amazing (I had no doubts)... the cinematography- everything was perfect. Thanks to you all: Chris, Jesse, Wilson J, Idina, Taye, Tracie, Adam, Anthony, Rosario... there will never be another movie like it.
Also, Tracie, you get an extra shoutout because I have never been so sympathetic to Joanne before, and my heart broke every time Maureen passed her by. xoxo

The movie blew me away. Everyone did a fantastic job. Jesse's performance was magic. Taye did a fantastic job giving a surprising amount of humanity to Benny. Idina, Anthony, Adam, Wilson all superb. Tracie was awesome. And Rosario was a revelation! I loved her Mimi more than any other Mimi I have seen.
I am very disappointed by the critical response. Many talked about how the film is dated or took too long to get made. That's idiotic. RENT feels as urgent and fresh now as it ever was. I think like all fans, I have a few quibbles with the movie. But overall, I am thankful the movie was made with so much care and so much love. And it shows on every frame of the film. Can't wait to see it again.

I saw this for the second time today, and again cried during the reprise of I'll Cover You [as did the rest of the theater]. No movie or play could ever affect me as much as this does. Thank you so much to the cast and crew for making it!

Wow all you guys stateside are SOOOO lucky... Ive seen this play loads of times in London, New York and touring the UK and was so happy to hear the cast singing Seasons of Love on breakfast tv when I was in the USA earlier this year.

Seems we have to wait until 24 Feb 2006 in the UK I am so envious of my friend who was in NY for Thanksgiving. Cant wait to see it. Thanks cast and crew for making this.

Hope you all had a peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving.

I love this movie!
it was even better than on stage cuz they could do little things that were impossible on stage. like when the were singing that song bout dieing in america angel's name had been carved into the side of the building.
Mimi has always been my favorite character and the actress who played her fit into that character so well. she's exactly who i would pick to play mimi.
i luv this movie!
i was six when i heard the music, i was 12 when i saw the play and now that i'm 14 and have seen the movie i am still so moved my it!!!!!!!!!

Rosario, TRULY one of the most talented actresses of this generation :D What more can I say? YOU ARE THE BEST ROSARIO!!!

Posted by: Steph L on 11/27/05 at 12:59 PM

I LOVE THE MOVIE!!! Oh my god. I saw it with the orignal cast way back and the movie was amazing. Rosario Dawson was perfect for the role of Mimi!!! She was dead on!!!!! I never know she could sing so well and acting was never the question in my mind.

Can't wait to see it again

Thats just my luck I have been counting down the days untill Rent came out for 3 months and it was deff. worth waiting for. Everyone was just soo amazing. Thank you soo much for doing the film it wouldnt be the same without any of you.

Posted by: Jesse on 11/27/05 at 05:17 PM

Like everyone else in here, I LOVED this movie! It was even better than the broadway show, because you were able to see all of the characters up close. It was one of the best films I have seen in years; it left a huge indelible mark that will remain forever. I cried out loud (I never do this) during the movie - I was SO moved! All of the actors did an absolutely amazing job. It was a riveting tale, even after I had seen the show twice on broadway. Rosario - I cannot believe you were not an original member of the cast. You totally held your own with all the others. Thank you SO much for an incredible movie. I will definitely buy it on DVD and watch it over and over, and I never buy movies I've already seen. Rent is special, so much that words cannot say!

I have seen the stage version 12 times (once with the original cast) and never really was too into "Out Tonight". I thought the film adaptation of the song was much better. It was one of my favorites. Then, to see Mimi dancing when she was spiraling downhill...it was too much to take.

For all the critics who have said that the movie was "dated" or "out of time"--they can go to he**. I don't think there has been a piece of work that has touched so many people for so long. It's been over nine years since I saw it the first time and it still affects me to this day.

Chris Columbus did an amazing job with the film. It was much more than I expected. I'll see it again and again and again. I'm just so pleased it came out so well and the many positive posts from the real fans should re-affirm that!

Rosario, you did a great job as Mimi! Loved the movie. 'Out Tonight' was great. And, thoughout the whole movie, you managed to look totally sexy, in a crack-head sorta way. That's good, though...Funny how it doesn't sound like a compliment, but for being Mimi...You were right-on!

No Day But Today!

Your obsessed RENThead,

I've seen the show 4x and never really liked this song UNTIL the movie version with Rosario. What an amazing performance!

Now, I have to get the soundtrack!

WOW! All i can say is WOW!! Out of ten I give it 100!!!! That was one of the best movies I've ever seen! GREAT JOB!!! Great acting and you guys are great singers!!! OMG! IM DYINGGGG to see it AGAIN, like five million more times!!! And usually I can only see a movie one more time if i like it, but this one just touched me. it was so good, WOW!!!!!

Posted by: b on 11/29/05 at 07:39 PM

WOW! I must say I'm not one for musicals, but when I saw the movie "Rent" I was speechless. I loved the way Adam(Roger) and Rosario(Mimi) ended up together. I also loved the ending, and how dramatic it was. I was for sure Mimi died, I was practicaly crying through that whole part. I loved it. I also liked how all the characters were so opened minded about the characters sexuallity. I'm straight, but I have two homosexual friends, and believe me life isn't easy for them. Well I also liked the music and songs. After I saw the movie I went out and bought the soundtrack!!! I love to sing. I'm actually in choir and I want to thank the characters for helping me find my passion and soul of music. So thank you and I can't wait to see the movie again. OH, Adam Pascal is so hot!!!!!LOL!!!

Posted by: Alena on 11/30/05 at 08:33 PM

Rosario, I absolutely have fallen in love with your portrayal of Mimi. You do it exactly right - the sassiness, the sweetness, the innocence, the vulnerability, the "hardcore-ness" - it's all there and it comes across soooooooo emotionally on screen. Your "Out Tonight" was SO awesome...you owned the screen, hehe. I think it was shot beautifully, too.

You're the sweetest person ever. And very funny, from watching all your interviews and stuff - makes me fall over laughing sometimes =)
