La Vie Boheme = Love.
I love the slow mo shot over everyone at the end of it....Anthony cracks me up every time. :)
The viewing count is at 2, and I hope to make it 3, maybe 4, this week.

Oh man, you guys. This isn't my favourite movie ever, but it absolutely blew me away. I just -- yeah. Love you. Harts.
Posted by: Elisabeth on 11/27/05 at 07:17 PM
Ohhhhhh, I'm drooling. This scene was sooooo awesome. The crew did a good job. I love how much Anthony was into his dancing. It was so cool. Just to show you how obsessed, I mean uh, ok obssessed with Rent, let me leave you with this. (I'm sure we all know the play by heart)
"To days of inspiration, playing hookie, making something out of nothing, the need to express, to communicate, to going against the grain, going inside, going maaaad." I would type the rest of it, but I'm uh breaking hospital rules by being online. Oops. Well. You guys did a great job. I'm going to see the movie again tomorrow night and will probably be the only one in my noncultured town to lip sync the words. "La vie boheme."

One of the finest performances I have seen in a very long time. This story line, acting, compasion between actors, and perfection between the crew is outstanding. Fascinating to be able to recreate such an incredible play into a motion picture.
True talent all the way around.
Thank you for sharing it with me and my family.
Be Safe and Happy,

La Vie Boheme is such an awesome scene! When I first saw it, I thought 'La Vie Boheme? thats random!' heh.. but I get it now :P
thanks for making the film though! I think broadway should make more films so people that cant go to NY can see a play. It was truely excellent. No matter how many times I see the movie, your voice doesnt cease to amaze me! You must have been a guroo in highschool?
congrats on the great film, man!

Hey there, I just wanted to let you all know that I truly loved the movie! I just saw it on Broadway last spring and got hyped up for it then, not even knowing I was going to get to see a movie version this winter. I just looooved the movie though. It's so cool to me that most of you are from the original broadway cast and that it must have meant so much to you then that you're willing to come back 8 years later and work on it again, this time in a movie. That's just awesome to me! The story is great; I wish Jonathon Larson was here to see its success and the impact that his theme "No Day But Today" has brought to people. I love the message, I love the music, I love the acting... Thank you for doing this movie!

I finally got a friend of mine to see RENT on Friday. She understood instantly when I had told her "Next time we have a party there has to be dancing on a table! Wine and beer baby!...or just juice boxes whatever suits the mood."
I also went to see a midnight showing at the ArcLights in Hollywood with my dad and sister on Wednesday. This is the ONLY movie he's seen more than once in a theatre (he saw it again Friday). Congrats!

I went to see the movie the other night. I have to say it was wonderful. I personally have seen the stage show 3 times, once with the original cast. Yes, I am one of the few posting that is old enough to have seen all of you guys in person!! (All except you, Adam. Norbert was in for you that day. Missed you in AIDA as well. Understudy was in again).
I am so pleased that a musical like this made it to the screen. I thought it was interesting how so much of the original musical script was left intact and not much more was added as other movie versions of musicals have, i.e. 'Chicago.'
I also loved the more thoughtful, and seemingly deeper versions of some of the more emotional songs such as "One Song Glory" and the "I'll Cover You (reprise)." Age has done those songs well and added another dimension. Jesse, I cry every time I even think about you at the church. That has been so since seeing the show the first time.
And with that being said, I also enjoyed how some of the energies of the songs were not changed, especially in "La Vie Bohem." The meaning is in the words strung together and the energy of the stream. That was kept intact from the live show and I appreciated that.
Well, I have so much more I could post, but I certainly don't want to be more long winded than I already am.
Congratulations to the cast and best wishes to you all on your future projects.
Love,
A Rent Fan Forever

I cried throughout the "second act" it was so moving! You did an amazing job translating the show onto film. kudos!

I have now seen the movie 2 times, and I must say that I am amazed! I saw the show on Broadway! But this movie has really touched me! I feel much more in tune to the charecters, and like I actually know them. The show is great, and is what really got me into acting and drama. Though the movie is so much more personal, and up close to the charecters. Where you can actually see what it is they feel... The play is great but the movie is great as well! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it everyday of my life! lol
Posted by: Trent on 11/27/05 at 08:06 PM
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PARTS IN THE MOVIE. The whole cast is beyond amazing, incredible, fantastic. There are no words to describe the talent of this cast.

This is one of the best scenes in the film! Along with Santa Fe it is one of the most uplifting. I just want to get up and dance and sing along with everyone on the screen. I loved that scene in the play and it's even better in the movie! So high energy! Everyone is having so much fun and it carries out into the audience. I loved all the dance moves and it was so funny and very well done!!!

Over the weekend it became #3 movie in America!
Congrats to all! You're a hit(as you should be)!!!

This scene is fantastic. La Vie Boheme and Tango: Maureen are, in my opinion, among the best scenes. And yes, Anthony, I have danced on a table. A very expensive pool table, to be exact. At a cast party after one of our shows. It's more fun than it looks, which says quite a lot.
Always a fan,
Amy

La Vie Boheme is definitely one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Everything in this scene was absolutely perfect. You all brought so much excitement, enthusiasm, passion, and joy to the screen. la vie boheme (both parts) was fantastic! joanne and maureen were adorable..mark was great on his "bicycle" and mark was hilarious at the end of la vie boheme part b making those goofy faces amid all the couples.

I LOVE THIS PART... of course it's hard to pic but this part, along with Tango Maureen are my favorite parts, followed by ever other part of the movie!! And it basically is because I love ANTHONY sooo much! Everytime for the past 10 years, when I would hear about RENT I would think of Anthony.. Mark is by far my favorite character. I love all the characters soo much though! This movie would not have been even remotely as good as it is if you OBC'S weren't in it. You guys made it a billion times more enjoyable to watch and listen to!! THANK YOU!!!
Posted by: Ashley on 11/27/05 at 10:08 PM
I admire the cast for simply being able to remember all the words to the song. They are all the definition of 'unbelievable'.
Posted by: Jodi on 11/27/05 at 10:09 PM
Hey, I thought that was completely awesome in the film....and I thought our cast had energy in Aida at my highschool, I wish I could have just shown this scene to EVERYONE in the cast on stage at reahearsal, so they could all see how energetic to be in the dances...You all truly inspire me and i'm sure countless others, thank you so much for dedicating yourselves to a story that is so influential in my life, Wilson...again like i said in a comment before....you've fullfilled the very dream i am persuing myself!! and your performance along with everyone else's just makes me want to work even harder at it, i'm almost there!! I blame you for making me just want to run away to a big city and following my dreams :-P! Idina, I first heard about you when i was cast in Aida, and I saw you as Amneris, and I have loved you since then, for some reason i could just tell that so much of you was in that character and that i just wanted to be around someone like you all the time! You're talent also inspires me and encourages me to do better all the time! Rosario, why have i not heard your voice before? When i was sitting in the theater at the first showing of the movie in town and you came on screen to sing "light my candle" It was so beautiful I had to cry and again the next time i went....where has this talent been hiding?! You are so amazing at it, honestly you have the voice of an angel...Dont hide your talents anymore, I can't get enough of it! Adam, not to scare you since this is coming from a guy, (i dont think it will) but you are such a stud up there on the big screen...As with Idina, i first heard of you when i became involved with being in Aida and since then i have loved your voice, and seen pictures of your performances, and once i saw rent i was even more blown away....awesome job! Anthony.....I dont know what to say....except for the fact that you made me sooooo excited, I love filmmaking and to just see you up there doing that was soo awesome, and i was honestly jealous of you, in a good way...god i can't think straight anymore haha it's kind of late! I send my love to all of you! and I just hope to meet you some day, I wish i could repay you all for how much i've learned!
peace and love

I love Anthony Rapp! I think he is so adorable and animated and talented and wonderful. Especially in this song! And I love his voice. It brings me back to when my school did You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, years ago, and his voice was all over the soundtrack we used to learn the songs. Anyway. .. I think he's the greatest.
Posted by: Marissa on 11/27/05 at 10:55 PM
This scene is just awesome, like so many scenes from the movie. I can't believe this film hasn't gotten better notices, because IT'S GREAT! The critics are fools! I intend to see this film at least a few more times -- pass the word: this film DESERVES SUPPORT! I love it!!! A Great Job! I need to drop word of The Losers' Club by Richard Perez -- set in the East Village -- a terrific intro to the downtown scene around the time of RENT. Terrific book! Classic film!!!
Posted by: Denise Welling on 11/27/05 at 10:58 PM
this was BY FAR one of my favorite scenes and songs!!! It was so upbeat, energetic, and "stick it to the man"ish!! I loved it!!! awesome guys!! absolutely aweseome!!

Much love from California, Rentheads.
Fresh from my 3rd viewing of the movie and I loved, LOVED, LOVED the way "La Vie Boheme" translated to the silver screen. Much better than I could have imagined. Rosario and Wilson are hilarious, especially after Wilson's line "Who died?". I laughed hysterically. Adam, you are one of the best actors I have seen onscreen in a long time. Jesse, nice pirouettes! And Anthony, I fell in love with you during this number. Idina and Tracie are hilarious and had every lesbian in the theatre in stitches.
Thank you so much for this movie. As an actress myself, hopefully I'll get the chance to meet (and who knows? Maybe even work) with all of you someday.
No day but Today

I saw the movie twice already, which is AMAZING I watched this clip multiple times so I could focus on each of you.
ANTHONY, your conviction is AMAZING and doesn't turn the song into some stupid self rightgeous song, it nails the true meaning, soo cute too!
ADAM, I loved how youdidn't bounce off the walls; instead, you seemed inhibited; perfect for roger. Awesome smile!
JESSE, I loved your jammin and turns, slappin Anthony's ass LOVED IT!
IDINA, loved the shoulder shakes and grabbing Anthony because it showed the compassionate side of Maureen
TRACIE , I loved how you let Joanne have some fun and showcasing your ass Perfect!
ROSARIO, so evident that you had fun, loved your facial expressions in the beginning, awesome jammin
WILSON, I ADORE you! I loved your awesome head bobbing and when you slick your wig and put your tongue up. It told everyone that you're revealing every crazy facet of Angel. LOVED the ass shakin, especially when you lift up that hip skirt. I loved the shimmying because it completly embraced the fun, fully feminine Angel, and you're an amazing shimmier.
Such an amazing, charming, good-looking, fun, intricate, talented, unique cast. It's soo exciting to have a movie like this to be nation-wide. One of the most exciting things about this movie is to see how people respond to this amazing cast and see their careers sky-rocket, I know it'll happen. You guys are way too amazing for your incredible talents not to be fully manifested.

I know I already said this but I'll say it again just because I feel like it....Anthony, you are truely amazing as Mark. I get shivers every time I listen to the soundtrack/see the movie. You seriously make Mark real, and amazing, and captivating, and it's just phenominal.
Posted by: Jessy on 11/28/05 at 06:56 AM
I've seen the movie three times now and the Broadway production once AND I never take the CD out of my stereo (unless to listen to B.D. Wong in Pacific Overtures or Charlie Brown... but that's understandable. ;D!) Everytime, however, this song makes me stop whatever I'm going- breathing, reading, blinking- and PAY ATTENTION! There is just so much going on- I love it.
Best movie I've ever seen. <3!
(I've started watching all the L&O reruns now, just to see Jesse L. Martin. And Anthony Rapp in that one SVU ep, "Bound"? I watch that and giggle at your hair, Mr. Rapp. ;) )

This movie is absolutely FABULOUS!!!! This particular part has sooo much energy. I dont think that any other actor could have done a better job than Anthony. I truly believe that RENT is in his blood, this scene is proof of that!! love love love it!!!

I wish the cast and crew members best wishes to a new year of happiness... Jonathan Larson must be smiling at the sucess of his wonderful play and all of you brought it justice.
Posted by: carol ice on 11/28/05 at 08:58 AM
I just remembered something....lol I loved the facial expression right after Mark says "Mucho masturbation" lol but my friend and I just had a conversation the other day about things that are different from stage to film, and she was like "Where's the table humping in La Vie Boheme??" and I was like "*gasp* you're right!!" lol So, now that I think of it, it would have been most amusing to witness that on screen....but that facial expression was priceless, man......
Posted by: Jessy with a y on 11/28/05 at 09:21 AM
It was one of my favorite songs, so much fun and and energy. In this day in age when there is so much hatred and anger in the world, it is a refreshing story of love and friendship. I left that movie happy and encouraged that the message it delivers has the power to uplift and change those new and old to rent. I am grateful for the oppertunity to see this brilliant musical(3times). thank you everyone for that which I'waited for so long to see.

somebody already asked this, but it wasnt answered, so i'm asking again. does anybody know if the tatoo on idina's ass is real? it just seems so maureen. and the scene itself is AMAZING. its my favorite part of both the movie and the stage version, part because it's the everybody's happy song and part because its just SO DAMN GOOD!!!! kudos to all the people involved in making RENT because you were all invovled in the best movie ever. jonathan larson should be made a saint. i will seriously carve a statue of him and put it in a church somewhere. so if a J.L. statue appears in your church anytime, you know who was responsible. on a totally different note, i just realized that i have the same initials as saint jonathan, as he will soon be known to the world. that's cool.
Posted by: justine on 11/28/05 at 01:11 PM
Haha. My friend and I freak out in our seats during this song. It's crazy.
And ... Adam. You have dance issues in La Vie Boheme B. But that's alright. And Anthony, you rock my socks. Haha.
Awesome song!

I just saw the movie yesterday. Man, you guys were AWESOME. I mean I cried, I'm crying now just thinking about it. I think you should know the opening scene of the movie was brillant. It could not have been done by any other cast but you guys. Really, I'm in awe of the whole experince and it wasn't even the actual stage production, man. All that could be left to say is BRAVO & ENCORE!!!!

I can't begin to put into words how much I enjoyed this movie. I never saw Rent on Broadway but have been listening to the music for a long time. It was so amazing and really touched me. La vie boheme was my favorite scene and I can't get enough of the clip. Every single cast member did a fantastic job and have made me a Rent fan, or should I say Rent head, for life. This movie was incredible and I can't wait to see it again. Congrats on a job well done. :-D ~Dana

This scene was great!!
Posted by: kate on 11/28/05 at 02:00 PM
okay, listen...RENT IS SO AMAZING, again, if it were a religion, i would practice. La Vie Boheme is my most favorite song, well all of the songs on the obcr are my favorite, but La Vie Boheme made me sing out loud in the movie theater, and do the hand dances. ive seen it 4 times now, and i'm not stopping anytime soon. this makes it very easy to get my RENT fix without having to go to the nedelander. not that i dont love it there--really i do. anyway, i love you guys, you are so great, and the wait was definetly worth it!! Ebert and Roeper dont know what the eff theyre talking about!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!! I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!!
xoxoxo

I saw the movie on Saturday and I. Loved. It!!! I'd heard it was good, from many people who'd seen it on Broadway or touring companies (I saw it here in Toronto) but I was totally blown away. When the first chords of Seasons of Love started, I nearly burst into tears. If my mother (who also loved it) hadn't been with me, I probably would have! As it was I was practically bawling through the entire last half of the movie. Ya did good, guys. :D
And this scene was so much fun, and it looked incredibly fun to do!
I am definitely going back to see the movie again!

I went to an advanced screening of the movie and during this number I swear the whole audience was clapping and gettin' down to the beat. Anthony is sooo amazing in this number and I can tell he's really "in the moment" as they say. I have been singing this song and that exact verse all weekend and my family says "You're driving US insane!" (As in "Going against the grain/Going insane...") I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! ugh, so awesome! carrie

So I have been a Rent fan for years since I first saw the show on broadway, since I have seen it once more and know I have the OBC recording of it memorized. And now that I have seen the movie, it is one of the only things I can think about. Every second I was in the movie I was loving it. I can hardly express how much I enjoyed the film. Most of my joy comes from hoping the film will be on DVD soon and I can watch it all the time.
I know that there are tons of fans like myself, but I still wanted to say how much this show means to me. There is a part of me that aspires to be like almost every character in the show. They are all so special. My moto is "No day but today" because of Rent. And for the rest of my life there will only be no day but today.
Thank you all for brightening and inspiring my life. God bless all of you.

Funny story.
I went to the Interlochen benefit screening on the 19th and around the middle of the title song, I realized that taking a trip to the Ladies' room before the movie would have been a good idea.
I thought, "Oh no big deal, I'll just duck out at intermission."
And it STILL catches me! :D I saw it again and "oh, intermission, okay" but of course, it's a movie...I'm just not used to Rent without a pause in between :)

This had to be one of my favorite scenes in the film. I just love the pure engergy in that scene. It made me want to dance and sing(luckly for everyone in my theatre I controled the urge). This is one of the reasons I saw it twice on opening day. I've seen it a total of three times now. If I survive my last couple weeks of school I will see it again.
I can't wait to see it on Broadway one day.

But this is my mom's favorite song, so thanks for posting this.

Oh, I love this song. The whole movie is amazing, but this one gets me going the most. I can't keep from dancing in my seat. I've known all the words to this song since I was, oh, 14, but I've gradually learned what each one meant, who each person was. Almost any artist, writer, poet that I've learned about and learned to love ("to Sondheim!") in the past seven years was in this song. And seeing it all up-close, on camera was just fantastic. It just speaks to me so much, thing things they express, the way the scene is staged, the subversive nature of what they're doing, the way Mark prances behind Benny at the beginning . . . if the feeling of Rent could be boiled down to once scene for me, it would be this one; it's a true celebration of life. "To being an us, for once, instead of a them."

Oh My Goodness!!! I loved the broadway show in New York so much, and when I saw the preview for Rent in the theatre's, I just about died. I counted the days till it came out, and went as soon as I could. I was probably the most exited person in the theatre. I was singing along, and I even cried at the funeral and when Mimi almost died.
Right after I saw the preview for the movie, I went home and listened to my RENT soundtraack non-stop. I love the music and the storyline. I also loved at the very end of the credits where it said... "Thank-You Jonathon Larson." That itself almost made me cry.
Best movie and play I've seen ever. I'm going to see it atleast 3 more times, and buy it the day it comes out on DVD.

I was SO excited to hear there was a movie, and I saw it on "opening night" with a packed theatre. It was more amazing than I ever expected! To my friend of yesterday and today you are in my heart and thoughts always.
I don't know if you remember me. I'm a friend of your friend ( Lilliam C.) from College. My name is Ann Marie. I'm sorry I missed you at the screening. I know Lilliam had a great time.
I hope she gave you my birthday card.
I wanted to send you birthday wishes and may all your birthday wishes come true. I know some have already come true already and many more birthdays to come. May your birthday be special as you are to your family and friends. Once again "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

This song is by far my faveorite, and the passion and energy Anthony has when he sings this song is incredible! He totally has the feeling Down! I loved Anthony's dance, Adams's smile, and when Wilson gets up dancing! I totally get their feeling of listening to this song- and needing to move! Dance! and Sing! Wow!
