That's nice, I already knew that, where's my video?
Posted by: Ben on 08/01/05 at 10:33 AM
Now how sweet is that, double our pleasure, double the fun, I will be at both, thank you so much. To Annie, from other show there, I notice that start anywhere between 8:30 & 9 am don't quote me now (LOL)
Thanks

I hope ya post all the press footage that RENT will be getting...i already have the today show set to tape! yay!

This is a much better idea! I wasn't going to through all the trouble just to get to see the movie earlier than everyone else. I kinda like the excitement of seeing it for the first time with a whole bunch of anxious RENTheads like me. But, this prize seems a lot more worth it! Can't wait to see you guys on Thursday!

I checked out the Today Show's official site and it says the Cast of Rent will be singing Thursday, August 4th at 8:00am. Thanks for the heads up! I'm really excited. What will they be singing? It's totally awesome that we'll get to see how the movie cast interacts and works together.
Posted by: Kaye on 08/01/05 at 11:17 AM
That's really cool, I hope someone who really deserves it wins! There are bigger Rentheads than me.
While I wish that I lived closer to NYC, I'm not bitter about it. I shall see the movie the night it opens and that works for me. :o)

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
What a bummer of a birthday. I can't get to New York on August 4th. I Wish I could be there. Getting tickets to the premier of Rent would be the ultimate dream come true.

Man! This makes me sad. I wish I could fly up there but its kinda hard when I have no money and the parentals say no. Oh well, good luck to everyone and I hope you have a great time.

Posted by: Rebecca on 08/01/05 at 12:35 PM
Awww...I live just outside NYC but can't make it that day. Still will be very exciting to watch on TV though! What's cool is that judging from other singers in the concert series, the cast will probably be doing more than one song..."Seasons of Love" is gonna have to be one, and maybe the title song? Woo hoo can't wait.
Posted by: Steve on 08/01/05 at 01:08 PM
Oooh, this contest sounds awesome! Can't wait to hear more details - i.e. when they will be on the "Today" show! Please keep us posted!

I live in the Midwest--aka Boring City, and I hate that I can't make it to New York on Thursday! I went TWICE last year for long trips and of course this has to come up after I'm there! I'm so sad! But I will be watching The Today Show!

So... I live in Chicago, and asked my parents this past Saturday if I could go... and my mom said she totally would have if I had given her more notice. (!!!). So I'm stuck here in Chicago, with a car that wouldn't make it to New York. they really need a mail in video box for out of state fans. THE WHOLE WORLD DOESN'T LIVE IN NYC!

AAHHHH! I'M SOOOO EXCITED FOR THURSDAY!!!!! I'm going to the Today Show, Rockefeller Center and Bryant Park! I was so excited to find out all of this was happening when I'm going to NYC!!!!!!

I am a huge fan and cannot wait for the movie. I have followed the careers of most of the original cast and love them tremendously. With that said I am very dissapointed in this contest. How is it that you can tell us that all of the most extreme RENT fans can make it to NY to participate in this contest. The life that is RENT is all about making despite the odds. For me and my partner one of those odds are financial. We live in California and do not have the money or time to take off of work in order to make it to NY to prove our love of RENT. Hollywood has expected that true RENT fans have the funds of Benny when the reality is that some of us are merely Collins and Angel. I am dissapointed in this whole idea. I would give my life to be a part of that premiere. It would be a dream come true to meet the cast that has literally changed our lives. But due to geographic location we are told we don't qualify. Such is the story of RENT. Most of them do not qualify in life due to thier challenges and status. How ironic that you make money selling thier stories and then turn around and sell yourselves as the Lexu Darlings of the world. I hope "Alec Baldwin is there and tell him I said hi." To all those who can make it good luck to you. I will look forward to catching it when it makes it's way here where most of it was filmed. "Viva la vie boheme." I love ya Idina. Your voice moves me.

Oh I wish I lived closer to the city and I wish I had a liscense. But I will wake up at 8AM for RENT anyday!
Isn't there supposed to be a video blog by Tracie Thoms out today? Sorry, I remembered that because I've been waiting for it.
Sounds great, I can't wait to vote for a RENThead,as long as they don't say "Ive seen it 14 times so that makes me the biggest RENThead ever!" Because that won't win my vote, it definatly doesn't depend on how may times you've seen the show. (Hint to all of those who plan on going. Not a very good thing to say.)

Hey all, I don't know how many people actually read these responses... oh well.
I am making the journey from "Podunk", Ohio to NYC. I look forward to meeting all the other available RENTheads. I, too, feel that geographic location should not be a factor in this contest and feel bad for those not in attendance. Feel free to e-mail me if you will or will not attend for a first-hand account of the experience.

Does anyone know when/where the world premire is going to be held? I'd assume it would be in NY, but you never know. If it is, though, as anyone heard anything about a CA premire? Maybe possibly?
Posted by: Andrea on 08/01/05 at 06:00 PM
thats not cute. some parents like to know in advance what time they have to leave for the city. My mom is freaking out on how secretive your making all of this--plus your driving me crazyy!! wish me luck convincing my mom to wake up at 5 to drive me into the city---the chances=0 to none. Ahhhhhhhhh its hard being the ultimate RENTheaddd, but you guys rock my world anways :(.

I have to agree with Mark; "How do you document real life when real life's getting more like fiction each day." The more RENT comes into my life the more it's like a fairytale and I can't believe it's real. I hope to win these tickets and here the cast because I love them so much. You guys rock my world and make it worth living.

I thought it was wide release November 11th! This really sucks.

Can anyone tell me why they feel the need to say the movie is coming out on the 11th and then torture us by making the rest of us wait till the 23rd? Isn't CHicago a big enough city to get the 11th premiere?

I'm assuming the spontanetous decision to make Rent a limited release had something to do with the fact that Zathura bumped its release date up against Rent.
Posted by: Deus on 08/02/05 at 01:23 AM
better news, rent's international trailer can be found at http://www.comingsoon.net/ . there are more scenes and the deep voiced trailer announcer saying 'RENT: an experience of a lifetime'. there is also an awesome seasons of love music video on apple's website at http://www.apple.com/trailers/ that includes the whole song of seasons of love and new scenes. using iTunes, you can downlaod the seasons of love single in cd quality for 99 cents as a featured exclusive. i beat the rent news to the rent news, spent over $1400 on tickets to rent over the last nine years, own cast recordings in nine or more different languages, and planning on spending $1000 to attend the 10th year anniversary, where's my two free tickets to the premiere, you might ask? haha, obviously california residents do not qualify, otherwise we'd see richard's video on this site soon. i will not be going to nyc either. i would rather see it in a packed theatre full of rentheads and friends that are rent virgins at the los angeles premiere showings on nov 11 anyway, campout the night before if the theatres allow us. ciao!

Hate to be a party pooper, but according to the other online blogs and e-groups, theres a lot of pissed off RENT fans with the announcement that there will be a very limited release of RENT on 11.11.05 only in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. The date, in case anyone on here doesn't know, for the regular release is 11.23.05, putting it five days behind the harry potter movie. whats up with that sony? you have a lot of heartbroken fans
Posted by: krista on 08/02/05 at 05:31 AM
Can someone please explain why the release has been changed. This is soooo wrong. I am outraged.
Posted by: Nick on 08/02/05 at 05:33 AM
Okay, I'm going to attempt to make it. I have to pull some strings at work but I will be there. I'm not going to miss this oppurinity. I've never been to the Today Show for something. It's something new for me.
Posted by: Blake on 08/02/05 at 05:56 AM
The Rent Movie release doesn't surprise me to be honest. I'll just wait till then since I'll be living out in Milwaukee then.
Posted by: Blake on 08/02/05 at 05:58 AM
These new videos are all great...and on a different note, I don't think it's fair to imply that they aren't thinking about the fans when they do limited release. The cast and crew obivously has respect for the fans. Movies have real reasons for beginning with limited release--it helps to drum up support for the films by first planting the "word of mouth" bug before it goes everywhere. So I think this is going to be a positive.
Posted by: Steve on 08/02/05 at 06:05 AM
Why do you get the buzz just flying, the people that have been fans forever all planning parties and such...for a November 11th film opening...then you change it to Nov 23rd and more or less slap the faces, once again, for anyone that is not in NYC or LA (Or Toronto)? Come on! Fair? NOPE! I know a few people that had big RENT parties figured out, college kids...so scheduling is important...now they are bummed...they wont be with their friends the day before Thanksgiving! Heck, some of them will be traveling and now wont be able to see it for a few days after opening!
Why would you deliberately make fans mad by pulling the date? I guess the fans everywhere else do not matter! Come on...do you really think that everynight at the Nederlander is ONLY NYC residents? Heck, I live on the other side of the country and I have beent here a few times. RENT is heavily supported with more then people from NYC, LA and Toronto (Toronto???)
Oh yes. most of us will still see it...but it is kinda like the series finale of a hit show playing to a lucky few and the rest of us just have to hear buzz and the excitement for weeks before we get to watch...maybe fans EVERYWHERE wanted to be involved in this grand opening..but nope! Not anymore. Just not fair...crap on us fans why dont you!
Posted by: Lisa on 08/02/05 at 06:40 AM
Do yah really thing Jonathon would have mis-led the fans and then told them only the fans in LA, Totonto and NYC deserve to see the movie almost 2 full weeks before the rest of us? Doubt it.
Why dont we matter?
Posted by: Trina on 08/02/05 at 06:45 AM
this contest isnt the "BIGGEST RENTHEAD" this is either the BIGGEST RENTHEAD able to go to NYC or the RICHEST RENTHEAD that can do whatever he/she wants whenever and wont find it a big deal to just go up to ny.
i wish we could send in tapes to make it actually BE the biggest renthead in america
Posted by: ryan on 08/02/05 at 07:26 AM
I keep reading that the limited release date is Nov 11 and then the country wide date is Nov 23, but what about world-wide? I'm living in England and want to know when I'll be able to see it! Does anyone know???
Posted by: Jenn on 08/02/05 at 07:40 AM
I think it's coming out in April next year in Europe, hopefully a premiere in London

holy excitement batman!! i cannot wait to get to nyc. i am getting there with my bestest buddy erin. woo hoo, it is so good to live in nj right now. i do feel really bad for all those who cant make. im sorry guys, i hope you get something someday. i lived in ohio for a few years so i know what its like to be cut off from the rest of the "world" aka NYC and LA cause apparently only those places have people who matter. what is with that crap?! the movie opening in those places and canada first!??! i was so excited about 11.11, i was flipping out planning a trip to boston cause my friend is going to college near there, so we were all "YEAH WOO HOO ROAD TRIP TO SEE RENT" but now----------------ugh my heart kinda fell out. but at least i dont have to cut school anymore even though my mom said it was okay. my feelings were/still are kind of hurt and i feel very anxious about waiting another week to see rent. arrgh.
ps i really hope to get the tickets cause i never win anything, and i want this soooooo much it actually causes me pain
i love the cast
i love the producers/creator/directors
i love rent
ahhhh i cant take it anymore--sountrack time
Posted by: Amanda S. on 08/02/05 at 09:59 AM
Come on guys, chill!
Didn't want to have to say this, but I think all these comments are incredibly unfair to the cast and crew who have worked so hard to bring RENT to those outside of NY and big cities in the first place. Look, I feel for those who made plans around the 11th, and I understand why some would feel that the fans are being abandoned, but everything we have seen out of this movie so far proves that this is simply untrue. The actors on the blog have been nothing if not grateful to the fans, and I think this behavior is not only immature but it show that you are turning your back on this movie more than this movie is turning its back on you. It is only a difference of 12 days, and if you have waited this long for the movie to begin with, I see no rational reason why you should be up in arms about the release date being moved. And take it from someone who waited for Phantom to hit US theaters 12 days after it hit the UK--it really is not a long time at all. Think of the fans in other countries who won't see this movie for months after us lucky Americans see it, and imagine how they look at us while reading these comments. We are all here because RENT touched us in some way and frankly it is simply wrong to use Jonathan Larson's name to express "outrage" over this news.

well, i'm really sad that i won't be there to see it live and take part in this huge contest thing. but, it's awesome that i can watch it on the today show and see a lot of the obc singing on my television. i hope more stuff like this happens in the months and days leading up to the opening of the movie! i heard they're singing "seasons of love" and "finale b"...anybody know for sure what they're performing?
wow. i can't wait.
Posted by: Erik Meath on 08/02/05 at 10:53 AM
ya, i'm pretty pissed too. all my friends and i were looking sooo forward to seeing rent on the 11th, but now, since we don't live in NY, LA, or Toronto, we'll have to wait until the 23rd. i may even have to wait longer because i may be traveling considering that thanksgiving is the 24th this year! as much as i love rent and everyone associated with this movie, i'm pretty mad at whoever made this decision. i mean, if there's a good reason why you're letting us all down, please let us diehard fans know. we may forgive you a little, but right now, we're all just mad and dissapointed.
Posted by: Lianna on 08/02/05 at 12:32 PM
im not expressing outrage, i am simply miffed, you do have a good point though---i see what youre saying and i apologize if my burst of "enthusiasm" seemed inappropriate, but also this blog is a chance for people to express what theyre feeling concerning RENT and everything surrounding it. so if not here, where else are they supposed to voice their opinions and comments? it is after all the comments page
Posted by: Amanda S. on 08/02/05 at 02:00 PM
I have to agree with Steve. I'm just as excited as everyone else and a little bummed about the extra wait. But I'm still not going to be a jerk about it on here or anywhere else for that matter. It's 12 days, people. Why don't we focus instead on how lucky we are that there are people who care enough about the show and preserving Jonathan's legacy to make the movie in the first place. Let's be grateful that the studio is pushing this movie so much and giving us these wonderful trailers and blog opportunities to tide us over until the 23rd. Let's take this extra 12 days to help build even more excitement and convert more RentHeads so that this movie stays in theaters long enough for us to go see it about 20 times.
Posted by: KatyGrace on 08/02/05 at 02:05 PM
aww i agree--- p.s just wanted to say happy 100 days until RENT is outttt (november 11th) yay for living in New York.. woo hoo, center of the universe ;).

Only in big cities!? I live in CHICAGO! That's not a big city and I have to wait two more weeks than the Hollywood people who could give a crap about Rent? Please, please expand to more "big" cities like Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, etc...
Posted by: Kelly on 08/02/05 at 02:49 PM
Why does only NYC, LA And Toronto matter?
Posted by: Charlotte on 08/02/05 at 03:00 PM
i didn't mean to disrespect anyone, it was just kind of dissappointing when i first found out. i'm not as mad anymore though, i just thought it was a little unfair to get our hopes up, even if it is just 12 more days. and of course i adore the whole cast and crew :-) and i can't wait to see the movie!
Posted by: Lianna on 08/02/05 at 03:28 PM

Hey blog organizers, if you read through these comments at all, please hear a request from a RENThead that cannot physically make it to NYC right now.
Setup a line rush for the sneak preview screenings, lottery the middle two rows, in ALL major cities (SAN FRANCISCO, PLEASE!) and charge us $20 a pop with additional proceeds going to BFA. We've been doing this for a DECADE! We've spent HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS of dollars on this over the years. That would be doing something to show us you're for the fans and the true meaning of the show. Another idea, organize a RENThead street team ~ we'll advertise this movie and push the success of the complete theatrical run! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do include all of us somehow in something special for this movie. The rest of us will tune into the Today Show at home, still thankful that something is going on involving RENT, VERY THANKFUL OUR DECADE IS PRESERVED ON FILM!!!!!, and pray for the return of another wonderful leg of the Collins tour after the movie's release.
Peace!
Posted by: Just One of the hundreds of true RENTheads on 08/04/05 at 04:05 AM
I can't make it today (or rather, I'm not allowed out of the house), but I hope everyone has an amazing time! I can only imagine how special it's going to be. Everyone who is there, be grateful and enjoy every moment of it!

To all the RENT cast:
You were absolutely amazing this morning! I cannot believe that the cast that I have been listening to on CD for all these years will finally be on screen and visible forever through the movie. I have been hoping that you would make a movie for a long time and finally you are not just making a movie, but on top of that a masterpiece with so many original cast members and two new cast members that fit so perfectly its hard to imagine that you weren't there in the beginning. Thank you for all your hard work for us!

I can't wait till the movie comes out and I too am very upset that I have to wait 12 more days to see it. That sucks really bad. I too have been counting down the days since the original date of the 11th was relased. I just want to know why.

Just in case you were wondering why we chose to ask you to come to Rockefeller Center in New York to show us that you're the ultimate RENThead... It's official, and we can tell you that the cast of RENT is going to be there performing on the Today show!
