Thanks for the update! You have one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. I swear, every time I hear the I'll Cover You reprise, I feel like bursting into tears. The emotion you put into the song is just so real. I suspect it will be even more wonderful in the movie now that you've grown as a performer. You voice is so amazing and I was a bryant park and was so upset that you where not there, but that is ok becasue you were filming the best show on earth. Guess what? I plan on seeing Rent over, and over, and over, and over... well you get the point. I'm a bit (read: huge) Law & Order fan, and when I heard you were doing Rent my reaction was, "He sings too?" Oh how pleasantly surprised I was! And you can belt it, dang man. Haha. Jesse L. Martin... how much do I love you? I definatley will be seeing Rent over and over at the movie theatre, and perhaps on a daily basis when it comes out on DVD. I think it's wonderful that you have such a great Law and Order fanbase, hopefully you will be able to introduce a multitude of new people to the wonder and joy that is Rent. :). I remember when you started doing Law and Order I freaked out (I would have been about 15 or so) and was so proud that you had such a huge part on such a massive TV show... but still when I watch, I have a really hard time not seeing you as being Tom Collins. ;)

That was the most incredibly sweet thing I've ever seen.

Either way, I'm picking up two friends and driving about 6 hours total to see the movie in NYC on Nov. 11th (because my friends and I agree that having to wait the extra week and a half is far too long). Devotion or craziness, huh?

I am sad to inform you that I have never seen Law and Order ( I know, I am the last human who is able to claim that), but I have always wanted to compliment you on a performance on another TV show . I really wish I had your shooting schedule for Law & Order, because I'm constantly walking down the street, seeing trailers and cameras and craft service tables, and hoping it'll be you guys on location. No such luck--although I did once see Jerry while I was walking down Broadway. He waved at me, and smiled. He seemed like a really nice guy.

Anyway, quick random story before I end this--I was at Bryant Park, and when the other seven came out for soundcheck, at about 10 AM, I saw you weren't there and got sad. Even before they said where you were, I was thinking "damn you, Dick Wolf!" But then this woman sitting next to me stands up, crosses her arms, and says very loudly, "WHERE'S JESSE? I took off work for him!" She seemed so disgruntled, and I laughed because she clearly wanted to see you really, really badly. Just thought I'd let you know that we all missed you there. But I understand--duty called, and I'm sure there was a crime scene that needed to be canvassed.

Ok, first things first, i love u, I love Adam, I love Rosario, I love Anthony, I love Idina, I love Tracie, I love Wilson, I love Taye and I love Chris for taking on this project and trying to hard to get it just right! You guys are the reason I want to be on broadway. I was in New York in June and saw that rent was playing and wanted desperatley to go see it but I was with my Grandma and she wanted to go see Phantom of the Opera. I cried. But i did take like 20 pictures of the thearte and the maquee. And then when I heard that 1) u guys were performing on the today show and at Bryant park and 2) that the movie doesn't open here in Pittsburgh, PA till the 23rd i was so mad I couldn't be in New York. I love that city and I love u guys so getting to see you guys perform would have been amazing! I really don't know how I'll be able to stand waiting those *gasp* 12 extra days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna die! But thanks so much for everything! You singing "I'll Cover You-Reprise" has gotten me through some seriously hard times. I lost my grandfather a little over a year ago and I was very close to him, and that song really just helped me to not just break down from grief. And there has been pleanty of over circumstances where I will just listen to that song for hours on end. Thank-you so much!

Ok, so here's a story for you: So my best friend Lizzy was all like RentRentRentRentRent and I was like Shut up with the REnt stuff! Musicals suck!! (I know, I know, listen to the rest of the story!) And Lizzy knows I LOVE LOVE LOVE L&O (I think you and Sam Waterston are sooo hot), so she goes, well, you know that dude from L&O is in Rent, so I was like, really..well then. So she made me listen to "Santa Fe" and I was like, whoa, who knew Det. Greene could sing? I was trying to explain to someone why everyone might have been so up in arms regarding the RENT film, without repeating the thousands of underarticulated arguments already littered across the internet. I simply stated that when J.Larson passed on, the show had to go to someone, and that someone was everyone who loved it. When those people that own it don't have a part in the re-creation process, it's frightening. But watching those that carried the show to the front-lines protect it, and carry it futher still, is very comforting. I'm driving from D.C. to N.Y.C. to see the opening on the 11th, and I'll check it out the 23 back here. Thanks a lot!

I've loved RENT for forever it seems, and then you were on Ally, I saw you on an episode of X-files (the re-runs) where you were an alien baseball player that sang great, and Law and Order which is my favorite show of all time. You and the late (RIP) Jerry Orbach were the best partners on that show and I've always wondered if your chemistry had anything to do with both having broadway roots...hmmm. All I do know is that it worked well. And now I'm SO glad to know for sure that you are back on the show, without stating reasons, it's just not the same without you.

Hello Mr. Martin!! After realizing you were on Law and Order, I have become an avid watcher and enjoy it alot. Especially the episode with the jewish russian diamond seller (i cannot tell you how many times I squealed when I saw the Rent poster in the shot on Times Square. I didnt move the entire hour hoping to see it again). I just wanted to say you rock as Collins!! I learn so much cuando yo veo strong positive actors on tv and in music like you and I just wanted to say thanks.

Yea, I'm really sorry you weren't at Bryant Park. I was, and it was FUN!!!! But, you're a busy guy, with Law & Order and all! I know you once said you don't really like to do musicals, but you really should do more. I just bought Bright Lights, Big City- and you're great in it. You really could play so many roles.... just give yourself a chance. You have a beautiful voice (i'm sure you know, but it's always nice to hear) and I can't wait for the movie! I watch Law and Order, and I love seeing you on it... it's definitely different without Jerry, but I hope you are doing okay with that. I first saw/heard you sing on ALLY MCBEAL and was like, "WOW". Then I was blessed to see RENT when it came here to Hawaii several years ago. I immediately bought the soundtrack and can play it's glorious entirety in my head, but the parts that always stick out in my mind are the ones with you in them. Between then and now, I was dying for you to take a "singing" role or persue a musical career (not to take away from your excellent acting)! Your voice is so deep, smooth and sweet, you always bring me to tears. I want to thank you for reprising your role for the movie, it would not be the same without you and it gives me another opportunity to savor the sound of your wonderful voice.

hey jesse I'm sorry I know I'm like a month late in responding to this video haha but I just wanted to say you are AWESOME, and we loove you!!! your Santa Fe sounds incredible and I can not WAIT for this movie!! I most definitely will be seeing it at the very least 4 times, and then of course getting it on DVD so I can watch it every single day when I come home from school!! Seriously, I cannot remember the last time I was this excited for a movie to open, and Jesse L. Martin is a HUGE part of that. Thanks for being so accessible to your fans and don't worry, I think RENT is going to be the biggest movie since Titanic, and I think a lot of people will be surprised at how much the public embraces it.
