Wilson Jermaine Heredia Answers Your Questions

Do you continue doing the original choreography or is it changed up a little bit? How are you guys remembering everything? - Jessica

The choreography has pretty much changed because the playing field became 3 dimensional. The stage production only allowed us to focus our physical energies in one direction, the audience, as it is with all staged productions. The feeling of the movement hasn't changed though because it comes from an organic place. RENT has never been about huge choreographed numbers anyway. I like to think of it as "inspired movement". There is one number that is completely choreographed and that you'll just have to see for yourself when the movie is released. J

Is it hard to play Angel in general? (I mean the high heels, eek I'm sure they hurt!) Is hitting those high notes in songs hard? Is it hard playing drag? - Lindsey

One of the most difficult things about playing Angel IS the heels. It was easier on Broadway because out of the three hours of it, I only had to be in them for about three quarters of the show. For the film I've been in the heels for 12 hours or sometimes more. Ahh, there's nothing like Epsom salt. Aside from that the role itself isn't harder than playing any character that you have to bring to life. It's all a challenge. The singing is in my vocal range but, as I said before, hours of it takes a toll on the vocal chords. Oh, and by the way, I hate makeup on my face. But Mindy Hall is one of the best makeup artists in the business in my book and if I would have to do it again, she's the master.

Do you have a website yourself? - Duane

I plan to have one as soon as I have the time.

Because of the time passing, and new members to the cast, was there ever any suggestion to just use the stage recording? - Cassie

With musical films you have to record tracks before anything is shot with the anticipation of what action is taking place. Even when we lip sync we're actually singing it through every single time. So...no.

That backflip looks awesome! Was that you? - David

I'd like to say it was me but it wasn't. But it looks pretty cool don't it!

Toughest scene to film? Most surprising moment? - Marlen

For me it was all tough but fun. You can't beat doing what you love and getting paid for it. The surprising moments I'll leave up to you.

Do you read these posts? - Serena

Yes true believers,...I do read the posts. I love to hear what you have to say and, in turn, I love to answer back. Forgive me if there's some gaps in between but I am up to date with the blogs. Keep writing 'cause I'm watchin'. Until then...

No day but today.

Thanks so much for the updates! I can't imagine being in those heels for 12 hours. Yikes! It all looks amazing and I can't wait for November 11th! (And for the unknown time sometime before that when I can buy the new soundtrack!)

Thanks,
Kathy =)

I love your voice!! I have the original cd and i started listening to it in like January b.c i was going to see the musical for my birthday. And the Angel i saw was good but i mean you rock!!! haha

Posted by: Melissa on 07/18/05 at 09:44 AM

You are a complete inspiration. Thanks for taking the time to answer all of the questions that you could and appeasing all of us every monday and wednesday!

Posted by: Kayla on 07/18/05 at 09:46 AM

Wilson! You're amazing! LOL, I'm sure being in heels for 12 hours outta the day is KILLER. I couldn't even last 6 hours at my prom. I think you were amazing as Angel. I haven't seen the show but I have the OBCR and you're too good! I love it! I actually got into this fight (nothing physical) with a girl because she said that I "didn't have a right" to think that you're the best just because I haven't seen the show. ANYWAY, I asked this of Anthony but I want to see how the rest of the cast feels about this:

How does it feel knowing that you're going to be immortalized in one of the best musicals? And how does it feel knowing that because of this movie, you'll be adding to the already enormous number of Rentheads?

Well, you guys rock! Keep updating the blogs! They're my lifeline until the movie comes out. I'm definitely going to go see the movie as many times a humanly possible then buy the DVD. LOL. Well, all the best, all my love, and all my thanks.
-Crystal

Posted by: Crystal on 07/18/05 at 09:46 AM

Ahhhhh you rock. So much.

The scene where Angel takes off the wig in the trailer makes me cry every time.

From what I can tell, you have done an AMAZING job and your scenes from the trailer look beautiful.

And high heels are my mortal enemy. Ow.

I really want to ask you an indepth question or something really meaningful, but my mind is still on Harry Potter.

Posted by: Lauren on 07/18/05 at 09:48 AM

Awesome! Thanks for our answering some of questions, Wilson. This movie will be unbelievable. By the way, if you tried, I think you can do that backflip ;)

One question:
Will you be appearing in any projects/movies after RENT? I'm a huge fan of yours and I would be the happiest person ever to see you more in the future. Luv ya!

- Annie <3

Posted by: Annie on 07/18/05 at 09:51 AM

Ughhh.....your feet must kill after all that filming in heels. I'm sure it was mad fun though. At least, it looks it....

This is so great that you and the rest of the cast members actually read these comments, it shows you guys really care! YaY!

Best of luck with the film release...I know I'll be there opening day.

Wow. I am the first to post a comment. I feel special.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write back, Wilson! It's interesting to hear about how movement has evolved for the film while maintaining the feel of the show. And it's hilarious reading about the heels... :-P This goes for all the OBC members in the film, but I am so excited especially to see your portrayal of Angel after years of wearing out the cast recording.

Posted by: Steve on 07/18/05 at 10:01 AM

wow thanks for updatting! I'm so glad you did-- I cant wait to see you all perform on August 4th, i'm counting down the days! I'm so excited. Angel is one of my most favorite characters from RENT, your luck you get to play her. Now you know what girls go through with those heels ;) haha just kidding. I can't wait to see the movie in November, it's going to be amazing i'm sure :).

LOVE a huge fan,

Wilson,
Thanks for answering questions! First off I have no clue how you survive being in heels 12 hours when I can hardly stand in them for an hour!! I give you mad props. I can't wait for the movie and I'm sure you will be fantastic.

~Sara~

Thanks for answering and being true to your fans, looking forward to seeing you at the movies and also on August 4 at Bryant Park

you rock, wilson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Margot on 07/18/05 at 10:24 AM

Hey there Wilson =;-)
I hope everything's going fine.. good lord your feet must have hurt! :D But I'm sure it'll pay out!!
I honestly almost can't stand waiting for the movie to come out here in germany in january '06. I just PRAY to everything in reach that they won't synch all the songs because the german lyrics are TOTALLY awful and i really love all of your voices... and isn't it stupid to see all of you amazing guys (and girls =;-)) without hearing a word YOU were saying.. i would hate that but i guess i'll have to wait and see what happens next year. It drives me crazy :D.
I have to see it in the original version. Sorry I digressed..

So best wishes here from Germany!!

Oh.. I second the question of "Annie <3": Can we expect to see more of you in theatre and/or movies in the near future?!
So long.. and Wilson.. You're the best! ;)
*Dominik

Posted by: Dominik on 07/18/05 at 10:29 AM

Ha! I surely couldn't survive in heels for 12 straight hours (and I'm a woman!)--kudos to you for surviving that long every day! OUCH. I bet you won't be wearing anything but nice, comfy flats for a long time, huh? ;-)

Thanks for the post, as always. We all know every one of you is amazing.

Hi Wilson,

Thanks so much for taking time out to answer these questions. It is so great to be able to interact with you guys, and I hope this continues even after the movie is in theaters! Good luck with everything. See you soon on the big screen!

Wilson!

Thanks for answering those questions!! Ahh, you make me laugh. Yeah, you've gotta be pretty tough to wear those heels...=P I could never do Angel (*cough* besides the fact that I can't sing), cuz the heels would have me down in an hour. Btw, your voice is one of the coolest and most unique voices I've ever heard...there's something about the way you sing that's just great. The first time I heard your voice I kept re-listening to the songs you were in cuz I couldn't get enough of your voice.

haha yup we're all definitely true believers...

I just wanted to give you mad props for playing the role of Angel. If there was one character I really relate to in RENT, it's Angel. So props to you, Wilson. I'm eagerly awaiting the film, as are all my friends. We're a bunch of RENTheads.

You guys all rock. :-D

Posted by: Mia on 07/18/05 at 11:01 AM

Aw thanks for posting again! *hug* lol After six hour days of dance rehearsal these posts really brighten my day!
And wow I feel kind of pathetic that you can be so coordinated in heels, lol I always trip over everything! -.-
;)
Love!

Oh my, most *women* can't even handle being in heels for like six hours a day, much less twelve!! WOW. That's amazing. You're my hero. =) Thank you so much for answering some questions here. Its been so much fun for me to read everyone's blog entries and responses to questions and I cannot wait to see the finished product this fall. I especially look foward to the new soundtrack since I've practically worn out my first one! Best wishes to you!! =)

Heather =)

Posted by: HeatherC on 07/18/05 at 12:06 PM

Thank you so much for answering some questions. I agree that 12 hours is a very long time to be in heels especially if you are dancing around and stuff. Keep in touch.

i cannot wait to see this movie! i live in TN and i'm only 15 so i've never got the chance to experience the show before...but i have the cd and know all the lyrics- it still makes me cry and i've never even seen it! angel is such a sweetheart and i think you do an AMAZING job! keep up the good work in those heels...you're inspiration for us all!

Posted by: Kate on 07/18/05 at 12:13 PM

Hey Mr. Heredia (Or should I just say Wilson? well, Wilson's a loot less akward.)
OK, Hey Wilson,
Do you like the idea of working with the same group of people on different films in the future (Like, you keep workling with the OBC and with Chris Columbus directing you guys)? I'd love to know what else you're doing!
Thank you for reassuring me that heels hurt everyone!

Posted by: Nicole on 07/18/05 at 12:19 PM

Thanks for posting again, Wilson. I don't really like make-up either or high heels and I'm a girl. I hope to hear from you soon, bye.

Posted by: Aria on 07/18/05 at 12:24 PM

Wilson,

You are AMAZING. Simple as that. Continue to amaze and inspire us.

You have helped redefine Broadway.

Thank you.

Love,

Sarah

Posted by: Sarah on 07/18/05 at 12:27 PM

I knew the main problem was in those heels. Especially when you wear heels while your on your feet for the whole day. Now that really hurts your feet.

Posted by: Carla on 07/18/05 at 12:28 PM

Thanks Wilson!
Thank you so much for reading the posts and answering them...and of course for donning those high heels and singing for us!
So..if you answer questions again..I've got one or two.
-What is your favorite song in RENT, why?
-Are you going to be part of the Tenth anniversary performance that Anthony was talking about? (I hope so!)
-What was it like performing RENT with such a realistic setting as opposed to the stage's more abstract look? Did it help/hurt your performance?

and on a non-RENT related note, Do you know of any projects in the future you will be doing? If so, what are they! I'd love to see you perform in anything!
My love and support,
Chelsea

Posted by: Chelsea on 07/18/05 at 12:55 PM

I love you!

Angel is probably my favorite character of the show. He's my mom's favorite too, she just loves Angel! I'm soooooooooo excited for the movie. You guys look like you are having so much fun and I just can't wait to experience it as well. I never got to see the original cast because I was 8 and 9 years-old at the time you all were in it. I saw in on stage a few months ago and it was amazing. I'm even more excited to see all of you in it. I have the soundtrack COMPLETELY memorized.

You're AMAZING Wilson!

A true believer,
Sarah

Posted by: Sarah Taggart on 07/18/05 at 01:08 PM

You are Phenomenal! I absoutely adore you! I saw RENT for the first time in Feburary and fell in love. actually i fell inlove with it before February! But i can not wait for the movie to come out, i am so excited. I hate wearing high heels myself, i can't imagine wearing them for more than an hour, let alone 12 hours!

Posted by: RENTjunkie6688 on 07/18/05 at 01:08 PM

I am a true renthead and have seen the show numerous times, crying every single time during the scene before I'll Cover You Reprise and all through the song. (Also during Goodbye Love when Mimi sings "goodbye love, hello disease" but thats a different story) The show is the most emotional show I've ever seen (and trust me, ive seen a lot) and sometimes i want to cry just listening to the soundtrack!

Do you think the movie will connect with the audience and be as emotional for us as the show is?

Posted by: David on 07/18/05 at 01:34 PM

Hey Wilson!!

I can't even think of being in heels that long, I would die! I bet it feels so good after a long day in those heels to soak your feet. I'm sure you'll look amazing in your heels. I can't wait till November!! I can tell it's gonna be great!!

Love,
Melissa

Thank you for spending your time doing this.

Its amazing to say this, after the many replies and questions you have answered:

The character Angel is what holds the movie RENT together, and without Angel's words of wisdom, there would be no RENT without him.

Thank you for choosing to be a part of a movie of a show which I unfortunately was unable to see in its prime.

Andi

Posted by: Andi on 07/18/05 at 03:17 PM

Wilson--

Like Andi said, Angel IS the glue for Rent. I wanted to say thank you for doing this show...you seem dedicated and committed, and for an amazing show like Rent, you need a cast like that. Thanks to everyone else in the cast as well...you guys are going to touch a lot of people with this movie, more than you can on Broadway or with a traveling show. And trust me, I know a lot of people who are thrilled beyond belief that they can experience, in a few months, the same thing I did when I first saw the show. Ya'll are amazing.

Thanks again,

Morgan B.

I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan and, not coming from the States, I am so excited about this movie, cause it means I finally get to see Rent! I just think you're incredible.

You're readng these comments? *waves frantically until her hand hurts* HELLO!

I think you are the only man who can really carry off Angel well (although Jai did good). Angel is going to kick so much A$$ in the movie! My friend Paul has agreed to dress up as Angel because he's thinks you're so cool! Thanks, I'll post some pics *wink*!

wilson, you are FABULOUS.
you are amazingly talented, and you make me cry in the trailer when you take off the wig. yes, the first time i saw the trailer, it made me cry.

the first time i saw rent was in march i think, and i saw it again at the end of june because it's the best. and the angel i saw was very good, but i have to say your today 4 u on the soundtrack is so awesome. my 7 year old sister loves it too- she knows all the words :)

okay well im not going to bore you with my long post, just wanted to say how totally and absolutely awesome you are, and i cannot wait to see the movie.

-michelle

...ps- you are my hero for being in those heels for so long!

Posted by: Michelle on 07/18/05 at 07:38 PM

Yay, I've been looking forward to you answering questions since last week! (Er, it's been a slow week.) Thank you for not answering the same 3 questions that the others did. Although, I'm not sure many people posted questions to begin with, no one told us you would even be READING our comments, let alone answering our questions from them!

In case there's another Q&A session: Since Rent has some rather iconic costumes pieces (Mark's scarf, Mimi's blue pants, Angel's Santa coat), how was it decided that some costumes would be in the movies, or altered in some way, or not in the movie at all? Did the actors have any say in this (like suggesting Angel be in flats throughout the movie)?

Thanks for caring about what all we crazy-obsessive fans think and taking the time to indulge us until the movie comes out. And any guy that has the cojones to wear high heels for even a short time, let alone 12 freakin' hours is a rock star in my book!

Posted by: Amy on 07/18/05 at 07:52 PM

The mention in EW was the first I'd heard about Rent being turned into a movie and I have been eagerly anticipating it ever since. The Original Broadway cast recording is one of my favorite albums. My best friend and I used to put it on, full blast, and take turns singing the different roles as loud as we could. It's been about 5 years since I've listened to that recording with that same awe and inspiration, but clearly it has stuck with me. I honestly just started to cry while watching the trailer because that is how affecting the story and music are. I am so thrilled that most of the original cast is back, and excited to see what life comes from the new additions, but mostly I'm just greatful that this show has lasted this long and come to this point. Thank you for all the effort and love that you put in to what you do. Much Love and Respect, ~Emily

Wilson-

I know that I'm not alone in expressing my profound gratitude... It's going to sound cliche, but I'll say it anyway *chuckles* - RENT has touched lives, given hope, and made more people than you can imagine look at the coming day with a smile that may not have been there otherwise.

Everyone has a story, and an equally unique for loving RENT and it's message. Like so many others, RENT has been the soundtrack of my coming out, of breakups and new relationships, of fights, of adventures - days bad and good.

There is nothing like belting out La Bie Boheme, on a day good or bad, to lift your spirits.

I can only say thanks - to you, and to all the other people involved in bringing this story to a wider audience.

I think the world needs a little to smile about these days.

Be well and live free.

P.S. What do you like to sing on a bad day to put a new perspective on things?

Posted by: Kris on 07/19/05 at 12:00 AM

I just have to say that I have a new found respect for you! I can barely go ONE hour in heels, let alone 12. I'm sure it's built those calve muscles though!

And thank you so much for taking the time to read our comments and answer our questions, it really means a lot

First of all, I would like to thank all the original cast member from RENT where they truly give all their best for both the musical and the movie.

I, for one thing, is from a country who does not have the opportunity to see stage musical shows but thanks to filming industry that make all these wonderful musicals comes to life.

In the beginning, RENT never did appeal to me until lately (Sorry,I'm slow). I thought it would be like the same old kind of musicals such as Sondheims', Webbers' or Schonbergs'...but as it goes in depth with the story and lyrics, AND after watching "ANGELS IN AMERICA". The meaning of AIDS has a wider range of meaning rather than Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome in my life right now.

Let's see, Adam, Anthony, Idina, Jesse, Rosario, Taye, Tracie & Wilson. I appreciate for what you guys have done. Not to forget Chris and the late Jonathan Larson. Thank You.

-Kuok Hau

Thank you for being so patient and answering our questions, Wilson! You looked really wonderful in the angel costume.

Oh, and another question: Will any of the cast members attend the premiere of the movie in any place of Europe? Of course I don't expect you coming to Spain (the movie doesn't even have an official release date here), but I suppose I could make an effort and go to the London premiere if you or another cast members are there.

And finally: I have a friend who was Angel in the Spanish tour a few years ago, and he's absolutely thrilled about this movie.

Wilson-

first congrats on making it back for the movie. I'm so glad they brought you back, because Angel was my favorite part in the whole show,I may not have been able to see the performence cuz I was only 6 when it came out, but I got the soundtrack for my birthday and fell inlove with your character. I'm counting the days till the movie comes out. Here it is only July and I already have my t-Shirt made (hard to tell who the first cast member is). I am also a young actor myself, and I was wondering what advice you could give me.

Haha. I guess I wasn't the first to comment. I'll get over it. My mind was way too into Harry Potter to even notice. It still is, even after I've finished the book.

Thanks once again for updating, I now wait for upcoming blogs and videos on Mondays and Wednesdays because I'm cool like that, though my friends think I'm crazy when I "have to check the RENT blog!"

The 10th Anniversary event should be great! Now if I could only get myself $1500.....

Thats all I'm saving up for now, its going to be worth it in the end. I heard there is a lotto, maybe I'll try that too.

So again, thank you so much for posting a blog and reading my boring comment.....I am going to try to be there, in NYC next April, to see you and the rest of the cast preform. Hopefully I'll manage to get there, if not, you're in my prayers. And even if I was there, you'd still be in them anyway. :)

Thanks for the post and its really nice to hear that you guys care so much about the fans. I hope to keep hearing from you in the future. I am very happy I turn 17 a month before the Opening of Rent so I don't have to sneak in. I wish you all the best.

i am so excited about Rent! this play has open the eyes of young teens, it shows them what can really happen. Rent is so down to earth, and realistic. I can't wait until November 11th! and im also very happy to hear the you read these comments, i was starting to see no point in writing, but its so awesome that you take the time to read them!!

p.s. i will be at the theater opening night!! :D

ok i know Rent is gonna be rated R
Language is one obvious reason but who doesnt swear.
So my question: How graphic does it get when it comes to sex?

Wilson-

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions first off, always a fun and pleasurable read. I have to say that I have alot of admiration for you as well as the rest of the cast for the dedication you all put into this movie despite the tedious sceduling. I feel drained after only a an hour or two of singing at work with the kids so I can't imagine having to do it for 12 every day. And in heels to boot. Ouch. Anyways, you've probably heard it thousands of times already, but the fact that you're all putting so much effort and enthusiasm into this movie and into keeping us fans abreast is very much appreciated by myself and many others, I'm sure. Well enough rambling from me now :-P, I can't wait to see the movie and I'll most definitly be hitting the theatre the moment it comes out. Best of luck always!

Hi Wilson J. !
I had the BIGGEST crush on you when I was thirteen... (I'm 20 now...) I think my mother was disturbed that her daughter was in love with the drag queen... but I had the pictures of you as Angel from "You Okay Honey" taped up on my wall in my bedroom. Your voice is amazing... especially in I'll Cover You, which makes me cry all the time. I'm so glad you're back for the movie! I saw Rent in Toronto in 98 (cuz I'm Canadian) with Jai as Angel, and then I saw the show in NYC last year, so I can't wait to actually SEE you as Angel!! I will be mooing and I will be dancing! ;) Thanks for the updates! All the best!
Xo Amanda (You're still super cute!!)

YAY IT'S YOU. I've been looking forward to your blog! You are cool.

I cannot wait to see you in the movie. I am so glad it is you playing Angel because it is your voice I hear when I listen to Angel on my CD player. It just wouldn't be right seeing and hearing anyone else but YOU play Angel in the movie. SO much YAYNESS.

Hey Wilson!
I'm so glad you're reading these blogs! It means so much to the fans! I've wanted to be on Broadway since I was about 5 and now I'm 15, so I'm working hard for it! Rent has changed my life and my outlook on the world. I'm so excited for this movie, and it's so amazing that you put your all into it- I mean, it IS a tough role to play! BUt I'm so glad you're doing it! Best of luck...keep singing!!!!!!!!

are you intimidated by people flocking around you? do you consider yourself a celebrity, per se? any paparazzi? i'm fascinated w/ the feelings of those that are considered icons, almost unhuman, in today's society. i mean, do you consider yourself to have a celebrity status?? does this faze you at all? or is it just a way of life now?

the whole system is a little whack if one spares it the thought...

ooer, and how does it feel to die in the movie? do you actually feel emotionally about that? i think i love angel. period.

Posted by: shamu on 07/21/05 at 09:13 PM

hey there! i'd just like to express my gratitude to you guys from the original cast, it really means a lot to the broadway lovers. when i heard there was a film version of rent coming out, i thought it would be something horrible like, "britney spears as MIMI!"...thank god i was wrong. im excited to see what you bring to the screen. i have never had the priveledge to see the stage version, but i think i'm happy with listening to the soundtrack from the original cast. i can't imagine angel being played by anyone else but you.

thanks,
caroline

ahh wilson!!

I cannot wait for this movie! I have watched the trailer over and over and the one part where you take off your wig brings me to tears each time. I cannot wait until November 11! just a quick question, if the premiere is in NYC (which it will be right?) will you all be signing autographs?

Posted by: madeline on 07/22/05 at 10:21 PM

okay first of all I want to say that I love all of you for making this film a reality...I've been freakin' out about it ever since I heard it was coming to the silver screen...secondly...I hate you all...I would do anything (aside from sexual favors or anything violent) to be in "RENT", like, I just think it would be so amazing...anyho...i justed wanted to say how cool it is that you guys answer the questions of your fans. Thanks again for making the movie a reality,
Kent

This is a Question for wilson ..... have you been to watch the show this year if so what did you think? .... WE REALLY ENJOYED IT! we are really looking forward to see the film LIZZIE AND LINNI x x x

Posted by: lizzie and linni on 07/24/05 at 03:27 PM

Hey Wilson,
Ugh, 12 hours in heels? Props to you, man. I don't think I could last that long...
Question: I know someone asked Jesse this, and forgive me if people ask this a lot, but do you think you'll ever do a solo album?
And when the premiere gets here (squee!) maybe I can sell my liver or something to get to it if the cast will be there...
Just kidding. Not that drastic... *crosses fingers behind back*
Anyway, my anticipation for this movie is growing each day! Can't wait for Nov. 11th!

Hello Wilson, do you remember me? I have seen the trailers for the movie and it looks awesome. How are you doing? be well. MJ

Posted by: mary jo on 07/29/05 at 10:12 AM

Hey Wilson,

To say I am excited to see this film is an understatement. Not sure if you remember me or not - but we actually did the reading of the Queen musical together back in like 1998 before they turned it into that big ol mess in Vegas (I played young Brian May) - I still talk about how you would have made the greatest Freddie. I am currently studying at Northwestern and all of the Rent heads here are very excited about this film - the preview alone has sturred up a revival of the music and the stories...and I think that is great. Well I wish you and the rest of the cast nothing but love and luck during these next few months as you go about all your publicity for the film and then garner all the accolades you deserve. Enjoy every minute of it.

Much love

~Travis

I hope the movie is good. But you never know? Not every musical can be as good as Chicago, right.

John

Posted by: John on 08/03/05 at 03:12 PM

Hello all!! I just wanted to say how fantastic it is to see that they have made one of the most important musicals ever into a movie for the entire world to enjoy; even better that the best cast assembled for a musical can now be seen on the silver screen. I say that the musical and the movie are important because I work in the HIV/AIDS field (at the AIDS Center of Queens County, :) ) and we cannot forget about our brothers and sisters who continue to live with this disease. It is important to remember the many struggles that people continue to wrestle with everyday, issues including: poverty, housing, substance abuse, access to adequate medical care, etc., usually all in addition to their HIV status. We must continue to fight AIDS through education, prevention, and most importantly, love. Keep fighting the good fight because there is no day but today!

Yo, Wilson!
You rock!! I love you and Angel-though i must admit dear Marky is my favourite character *stops to pat Mark on the head* but Angel and Maureen are close seconds! Angel's such a unique character...and not just 'cause he's gay and a cross-dresser...but he's so nice and cool and everything! *hearts Angel* Omigosh, I feel reeeeeally sorry for you, in the high heels...I'm a girl and I hate wearing high heels for longer than...5 minutes, hehe. ^_^ Ummm...this is kind of a personal question, but my friend and I wanted to know if you're actually gay. :3 Don't feel like you have to answer. We were just wondering...cause we were wondering if it takes an actual gay guy to play Angel, or if a straight man would have the guts to do it. I think I would. I mean, i'd like to play Maureen and she's a lesbian...but yeah. Anyways, rock on! We luv ya!

Hi Wilson,
I saw y'all in the original cast back in the 90s and it's great to see you back in those heels again! From the clips it seems the director has really done a great job of keeping Jonathan's spirit alive in this movie. And Angel has a lot to do with that. Thanks so much for coming back and bringin that energy and spirit. So proud of you! Angel makes me believe every time she sings & dances her magic. Today for you!!!!!!

Posted by: Maya on 11/24/05 at 11:48 AM

Was it difficult for you to do this production with out Jonathon Larson being there and know that he never got to see his masterpiece

Posted by: Kate on 11/25/05 at 05:22 PM

I love the character that you play in rent. I have one question, if you were any other character what would you be? or would you still be angel?

Posted by: Skyler on 11/26/05 at 04:06 PM

Was it strange for you to talk in some parts in the movie when you never really talked in the play?

Posted by: Jaime on 11/27/05 at 10:22 PM

Wilson hey! Funny, but I have been in Dance for about 13 years now, and it's been my dream since i was little to be a performer. Thats how i wanted to show people new things, teach them new lessons and all of that through dancing, singing and acting...and so far it's coming true. Our high school here in MN just got done doing AIDA and in just the 3 months of doing Aida, i grew so attatched to it, because i had been in plays before, and dance and all of that, but i had never combined the three talents into one show before, and I am so happy it happened, and i know what you mean with the dancing, every day of the week for hours on end of rehearsing the dances puts a toll on you, though as a slave...i had the luxury of not wearing heals, and i just want to say that even though i only heard the soundtrack a few years ago and only got to listen to that since i could never get to broadway, i loved the musical even more once i finally saw it in theaters. I went for the second time an I love it. So i just want to tell you i respect you so much, you've followed the very dream i have, at least one of us has made it, now it's my turn :-P keep inspiring me and everyone else through your talents, I hope to some day accomplish as much as you have!

peace

I just have to say that even though I havent seen either productions yet (being grounded is HORRIBLE!), I have been listening to the Oringial Soundtrack 24/7 and i've also stolen my partner's Rent Book thingy, and we both agree, Angel is our favorite. Thanks sooooo much for making Rent avaible to everyone and not just on Brodway.

Posted by: Becka on 11/28/05 at 04:03 PM

I love you! I mean I just saw the movie on Saturday. And I have not seen the play. But Angel is my favorite. She has inspired me to take a little bit of risk in my life. Actually Angel inspired me to ask this guy to a dance. HE SAID YES!!! I never would have done it before. I am not one to cry at movies but I cried like a baby when Angel died. You portrayed Angel so beautifully. Thank you.

Angel is my INSPIRATION.

Many people may say Angel is trying to be what she is not. Meaning she is trying to be a girl when she is a guy. But I think Angel isn't afraid to be what she is. She is beautiful, strong, inspirational, caring, giving, and most of all. BRAVE.

Posted by: Kali on 11/29/05 at 05:00 AM

My first time ever seeing RENT was in theatres the first day it came out. After seeing the movie, I must say that Angel instantly became my favorite character. All of the characters project a certain message, but I think I was most attracted your character because Angel is not afraid to be who she really is. I loved your portrayal of her. From one singer to another, you have an amazing voice. I hope you will be acting again soon, so we can see you in more projects! You have touched so many with your character, and I just wanted to say thank you so very much. :-)

Hey! Wow, what can I say except I LOVED the movie! I have already seen it twice and I will probably go again tomorrow! Angel is by far my favorite character, and you did an amazing job of playing her. So, what was your least favorite thing about dressing in drag? I just hafta know.

I have been a fan of the show since '96 when I was doing my student teaching. RENT's spirit helped me through a really difficult year. When I heard that there was going to be a film version, my first question was "Who's gonna play Angel and Collins?" I was overjoyed to hear that it was you and Jesse. Once I saw the film in preview, I was happier than I could've imagined being. You two are astonishing! What chemistry! Thank you for the film and those characters. I am a theatrical technician (wardrobe/costumes), and you have officially made my "must work with" list :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! Congratulations!!

Posted by: Ashley on 12/03/05 at 12:19 AM

Happy be-lated birthday.

Just making a quick statement. I am a first year composition student and I was involved in theatre during high school. I've been wanting to be a composer since I began studying music - let's say seven years ago? And when I entered college I didn't know what kind of composer I wanted to be (film, art, etc.). But seeing you guys in RENT definitely resparked my interest in musical theatre again and I DEFINITELY want to be a composer of musicals. I actually began sketching my first musical after I attended RENT on opening niight.

Just thought you might like to hear my inspiration story. Can't wait to see you in more films - hopefully more musicals now that there seems to be a revival of musicals in Hollywood. You planning to do anything in theatre anytime soon?

Hope to hear from you,
Willy.

Hey Wilson!
Well, I'm officially obsessed with Rent. I knew from the beginning that Angel would be my favorite character since she reminds me of one of my friends. I want to thank you for your inspiring performance and your determination (I could NOT have made it in those heels! It's bad enough wearing heels for two hours at church on Sundays....but TWELVE hours!?). I only wish I could have seen you in the original broadway production. All four times I've been to NY, I've been too young to see the play (although, once, I was able to see you and the rest of the original cast sing on the Today Show). You have a beautiful voice and you are all around a beautiful person.

With love,
Alexandra

Posted by: Alexandra on 12/03/05 at 07:51 PM

Oh Wilson, you are such a doll. I am up to four times of seeing rent and each time that I see it, I get a HUGE smile everytime that I know that you are going to be in a scene. You make quite a cute girl. I cant even imagine running in those shoes.. I would twist my ancle and fall on my face:) Props to you! I have a few questions for ya:
Do you have any future acting plans?
What is your favorite song from the movie?
Are you planning on making a "Wilson J" website?
Which scene was the hardest for you to do?

Thanks so much!
*Ill cover you with a thousand sweet kisses*

Wilson rocks!!!- Sorry I just had to get that out of my system- lol.
Anyways, a few years back you and the actor who plays Collins made a visit to the Tampa Theatre in Florida to do a song for the kids there at state festival. I wasn't there at the time (wish i had been), but my tech director, Steve, said he met you 2 backstage (just think thats kind of cool :) I was just wondering if maybe you would be interested in doing that sort of thing again- of course all expenses would be paid as b4- i'm sry to try and talk business on here but my friends and I would love to see you perform on stage- ok then- hope to meet u some day (in a non-creepy fan-freak sort of way, lol)-
Later- Brandon T.
p.s. *we luv u- B.T. and the MIHS technical crew*

Posted by: Brandon on 12/05/05 at 10:18 PM

Wilson,
I just wanted to say that your performance in RENT is so powerful! I couldn't help crying. I am absolutely in love with the musical and I can't stop playing I'll Cover You, Today 4 U, and Santa Fe over and over again. In fact, I think I may be driving my friends crazy, but that's beside the point. RENT has such an important message to share and I'm so glad it's getting out there! I saw the play in NY about a week before the movie, with only a vague idea of what it was going to be about and I fell in love. There is nothing like seeing it live, with that energy all around, and to see you and the rest of the original performers would be... simply amazing. I was really touched by the movie and I hope everyone gets a chance to see it and be inspired. To perform in any play is wonderful. To perform in a play with a sincerely relevant message behind it is something to really be proud of. Keep spreading the word!
Love

I sing the songs everywhere I go. I'm sure u have many other things to do so I'll try to keep this short. I just wanted to say that you were my favorite character, and actually being able to write to you know is amazing! I idalize your voice and acting skills. I've learded a lot from you considering I also sing and act. I really do look up to you.

Hey Wilson,

I don't know if you even read this anymore or anything but I just wanted to say that, you played the character very very very well and I loved it so much this may sound weird but it really made me look at everything so differently, about how AIDS is and things because I know in health class you don't get it all, but when I saw this movie I really got how terrible it is, and it made me change. Thanks Sooooo much your the best!

Oh my gosh! I love Rent but I especially love Angel's character! Anyone who dresses up, and dances, AND sings, well I just can't come up with the right words. I had to do songs from Rent two years ago in the 8th grade and I love it, but I never fully understood the story. I went to the movie expecting a story about a couple of friends who struggled to pay the rent. But it was so much more. It opened my mind to be more aware of AIDS. I'm a teenager so I hear alot about it, but I ignore it. When I saw your performance on how your case got so bad that you died, well I'm paying more attention to AIDS. I'm doing research on it, and telling my friends to be careful. I doubt you'll read this but I just want to say Thank You, for being a wonderful actor, and opening my eyes about AIDS.
Thank You Wilson. Thank you for Rent.
And No Day But Today is absolutely right.
Many Thanks,
Deidra

I really loved your character in this movie. I never got to see the Broadway show before but when I saw this movie it really touched me and I now can't get this movie out of my mind. I really went out to buy the soundtrack and I now play it everyday. What I really want to know is how was you able to play this gay role? it really convinced me that you was really gay. What ever the case may be you really did a wonderfull job, take care of yourself and may you get everything you ask for in life.

Hey Wilson, I just had the chance to see "Rent" on DVD today, 2/21/06. Since I actually heard about "Rent" back in 2005, it somehow really started my fascination with Broadway musicals (I actually liked it before, but not as much until "Rent"). So, when did you and company actually start filming? When did "Rent" open for the first time? Has it all been the same cast? And is "Rent" still going on in Broadway?

I have to say Wilson, you did a fantastalistic ;P job for your character, I don't know how someone like you can pull off what you did for your character being in the actual broadway production of "Rent" and the film adaptation as well. Does being a woman that long for audience entertainment make you feel too strange or do you just get used to it?

By the way, I bought the full soundtrack at BestBuy today, I was completely blown away at the film production that I HAD to get the soundtrack, me being one of those singers.

Hey Wilson,

I just would like to say that i got a chance to watch rent again since it came out on dvd yesterday. I think you are an amazing person and actor..keep it up...lots of people love you and admire you!!! You are the reason I watch rent over and over again!! Never quit!!!

omg i love you sooo much. i saw the rent movie 8 times and i cried every single time. Was it hard to act lie you were gay in the movie? [you did a great job of it.]

Hey Wilson,
You are incredible and I love you so much. Do plan to continue acting? or what do you plan on doing now?

Posted by: Angelique on 03/01/06 at 03:16 PM

Hi Wilson I just wanted to thank you, your probably wondering what you did for me to say that. The movie rent really helped me open my eyes and pay more attention to the people around me instead of treating them like they are there just to be there. The song at the end that Joanna and Maureen were singing they say"I would die for a piece of what angel had he wasnt afraid to say i love you", well thanks because now im not either. You really gave me that self confidence.

Posted by: Ryan on 03/03/06 at 01:39 PM

Hey Wilson!

Seeing the movie (over and over and over and over again) makes me wish I was old enough to have gone to an origional cast production, and been old enough to understand it. All of you have brought Johnathan Larson alive, to me at least. He must have been an amazing person. As a writer myself (not of screenplays, mind you) I know how much writers put themselves into their work. I completely respect you as an actor, too. Watching Angel die... I think I cry harder every time I see it. She has become real to me, and I have you to thank for that (there's much to be said about your acting talent... I'm very jealous. haha). There is plenty to be learned from Angel's spirit, her love. No day but today, right? That is an important lesson, one that will immortalize Rent, immortalize Johnathan Larson.

I absolutely love to sing! Someday i would love to work on Broadway. I'm not anywhere that good though and I'm in the top of my class at school, so i was thinking of going into medicine - hematology actually. I read that you were studying medicine at first but then decided to change to acting. When did you know for sure that that was what you wanted to do? I mean, i love love love everything about musicals but im caught in between.
My school has this special singing ensemble called Innovation. Last year our theme was Broadway, so one of our songs was Seasons of Love. Our director tried to explain the meaning of the song, but clearly without seeing the show we couldn't completely understand. Though i haven't seen the original version, i have the soundtrack and i have seen the movie many many times. I wish all of us in he group could have seen it before we sang that because it holds so much more meaning in context. And wow! Angel is so my favorite character ever!! The first time i saw the movie Angel's death caught me so off guard. I cry every time i watch it and i am not a crying kind of person. The weekend after i first saw it i barely got any sleep! i stayed out with my friends for as long as i could because i couldn't bare the thought of going home and doing nothing. Everyday now i try to live like there's no day but today! The musical has such a great message! It's extra important to me because my mom has a rare blood disease for which there is no cure or treatment and a lot of the things in Rent reminded me of that, especially the little part where Collins is holding Angel in the hospital, because it was way too familiar.

you are just so amazing!! i love you

Wilson-
First I would like to start off by saying what a wonderful actor you are. You are a beautiful singer as well, i love your voice. Rent has become my favorite movie and I try and watch it everyday. I also listen to my Rent soundtrack everyday and i love to sing along. "Today for you, Tomorrow for me." I think you did an outstanding performance in Rent. You are my favorite character in Rent. I cry every single time when it comes to the part where Angel dies and then at the end when they are playing Mark's movie and the last thing you see is Angel. I thought that was beautiful and i fall apart every single time. (also, on the alternate ending on the DVD when your light is there and then you come out and touch jesse's hand and then sing, i fall apart!) i love you and can't wait to see your other movies.
i <3 angel!!!! :)
love always, Brittany :)

Wilson,
I first saw Rent about a month ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I love the message and theme of the movie. I truly belive in "No day but today". I am so obsessed with the film and soundtrack, I think my family has had enough. LOL! I even started to show my friends and so far, everyone has loved it.
I would like to say that you did a magnificent job of playing Angel. Angel is without a doubt my favorite character in the film because she isn't afraid to be who she is. I do have to say, I loved every character because they are all so unique, yet the same. I loved all of your voices because everyone can sing beautifully.
I never got the opportunity to see you and the rest of the original cast on Broadway because I was too young, but thanks to everyone who played a part in producing the film, and of course John Larson, I was able to experience Rent.
Again, thank you and the rest of the cast for making Rent. Wilson, again, you did a fantastic job and have an amazing voice.
I have one question. What is it about Angel that makes you want to play her role?
-A true Renthead-

Wilson!

I just became aquainted with RENT, the first week of March and I am in LOVE with it. We sang some of the songs when I was in my high school choir, but I never knew the whole story line. I'm from small town Ohio and I don't get to many places. Angel is my favorite character!!! My mom just bought me tickets to see the stage production in Columbus in April, too bad you are not in it! I am starting to drive my friend nuts with singing the songs and acting them out!!!!

Did you model Angel after anyone special? And did you have to study women to develop the feminine actions that you portray as Angel?

Hi, Wilson

It's me, Terri I just want to say that you did a great job playing angel oh, and also my daughter, Jessica and my son Chris you met them. When you heard a noise in the alley, Jessica said you need to stop being nosy. Wilson, the next time we see you, we might bring you candy,o'k.
Peace out, Baby

I don't know if anyone still reads this... But I thought I'd take the opportunity to say how fun and entertaining you are! All of you showed your true commitment to your roles and really reached a new audience. My good friend says she hates musicals, but she let me take her to Rent and she LOVED it. Last night I watched it with my friends and one guy said it was the best musical he'd ever seen, and he's not too fond of them. So I guess just thanks for your hard work and beautiful story!

Hi Wilson,
i just wanted to say that you are truly an inspiration. I saw the movie RENT and i was just completely amazed, i went back and saw it 7 times and bought it the day it came out. I am also seeing it on broadway very soon. i just wanted to say that you are my hero.

Hi Wilson,
I just wanted to say what an awesome job you all did on the movie!! I applaude you for wearing the high heels, because there is no way I could have! You did the most amazing job, playing Angel! I respect you (and the rest of the cast) for taking time and actually reading the posts and answering. You are all AWESOME!!!
Are you going on tour with Rent this year? I'm going to see it in Atlanta and I've been hoping I would be able to see you there.

Ok I know this is about a year later than you have answered the questions but I just wanted to say...probably Im posting it for the 5th time but I really want you guys to know!

Ok let me just say I LOVED YOUR MOVIE! I practically had to get on my knees and beg to see it! This summer we are going to New York and we are going to see Rent on broadway! At first we werent sure about it but then for christmas I got youre CD and now I THRIVE on your music! After that I went on the web and gathered as much info about the movie as I could and then I got to see it! Strange eough I was at my hairdressers house but after that I brought over a friend, bought the movie, watched the movie and stayed up until 4am watching commentaries! Since then I have watched it again but I will NEVER get tired of it! and I just wanted to say to Wilson Jermaine Heredia, you are my HERO! You make me laugh off screen and cry on! I think you did an absolutely FABULOUS job and so did the rest of the cast! When I heard that it wouldnt be you on broadway this summer I almost DIED! But I have memorized all the songs and will be up there singing with them! I LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH! I doubt this comment will be read but that movie will live on in my heart forever! And even though I wont be able to see you and take my picture with you this summer on broadway I still love you and will never be able to compare you to any other actors that try to take your spot! It has always been my dream to be on broadway and you guys just boosted me up to want that dream more! Remember me,

The big fat RENT HEAD,

I just wanted to tell you how your role as Angel has impacted my life. Your portrayal of Angel touched me in ways I never thought possible. It turned out that she was my favourite character in Rent! She had a zest for life that I long for, and no matter what hardship she was going through she stayed happy and strong for those around her, and for herself. She was an all around beautiful person, inside and out. It opened my eyes and helped me discover that there's more to life than just, as you say, paying the rent. I was so moved by her character, and I realized that in every scene she was what captured my attention. I felt on some level I could relate to her, even through our many differences. I thank you for helping me see the every day joys in life that may have been missed otherwise.

I know that those heels can hurt and you still lived with them, I loved when you danced in front of Collins, Roger, and Mark, that was great. You are considered as my favorite character in Rent. I think that you make a cute girl in costume. And you always have imprest me in Rent with those dances. You did a great job as Angel.
