Adam Pascal Answers Your Questions

Rae: Are you really filming in Santa Fe?

Adam: Yes we went to Santa Fe for several days at the end of the shoot. It was a spectacular location, and a perfect way to end the shoot.

Jose: From the standpoint of someone who has lived the "Rent" experience, what are your thoughts on some of the nuances and changes that have been made, both artistically and visually (i.e. the new "long haired" look for Roger, showing instead of implying the riot, etc.)? Do you feel as if this is something that, if he were here to helm the project, Jonathan would have chosen to update and incorporate?

Adam: I don't think anyone knows what Jonathan would or would not have done. We can only proceed with the purest intentions, and stay as true to what the essence of Rent is. What the essence of Rent is not though, is the length of Roger's hair, or changing one location to another. Those are incidentals that get adjusted to fit the medium in which the story of Rent is being told. Just to put it in perspective, Roger's blond hair in the show was only that way because that was my hair when I got the job. I would say that is true for most of the original cast.

Jonathan never had a physical image of these characters that we were trying to match... we became the physical image. For the film, Chris Columbus and I felt that Roger should look a bit more "earthy"... less "cartoony." More Bruce Springsteen, less Johnny Rotten.

Marlen: What was the toughest scene to film? What was the most surprising moment?

Adam: The toughest scene to film surprisingly was "I Should Tell You," because of the technical pain in the ass, of trying to get the fake snow to look real and consistent. But I must say that our FX team was top of their game, and in the end it was well worth it.

Meg: Are you recording the songs again, or will you be singing to the album already recorded?

Adam: The entire score has been re-recorded for the film by Rob Cavallo, Grammy winning producer, most recently for best rock producer 2005, Green Day. It is a big loud rock record...as it should be!

I love you.

Seriously, I do.

Keep up the fantastic work, Adam. You are amazing.

thanks for answering the questions Adam! But maybe next time you answer them:

Is there any slated release date for the new soundtrack?

Posted by: Jon on 07/06/05 at 09:08 AM

Thanks for answering all those questions! It sounds like the movie and the soundtrack will both be amazing. You're awesome.

Posted by: Becky on 07/06/05 at 09:14 AM

Thanks for answering some of our questions. Here is one of my own.

What has been your favorite experience working with the cast for the movie?

You guys all rock my world...don't fight with me you guys are amazing and I hope to someday be up on stage or camera also.

Posted by: Katie L on 07/06/05 at 09:15 AM

Ha! I enjoyed the comments about the hair. Honest, of course. :D I like the new look, by the way. It amuses me.

Again, all of you guys are amazing. Congrats on completing filming.

Thanks Adam! We all really appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions - and congratulations on the completion of filming! The only other possible thing I can request would be another one of Anthony's adorable videos - I know you all have them hidden away somewhere!

Posted by: Emma on 07/06/05 at 09:18 AM

Thanks for keeping us updated!!I cannot wait for November 11th to come. It seems such a long time away.

Oh and another question: Can we expect a DVD and lots of behind the scenes footage? I sure hope so.

P.S. You were awesome in Aida!!!!

I love you Adam.

You are an awesome singer and actor.

I can't wait to see the movie!

This new RENT movie cannot come soon enough. Everything I read in the blogs makes me ten times more excited for the movie to come out. I can't wait for any of it: the soundtrack, the posters, the TV spots. It's all going to come together so well and everyone is going to want to see it. I love it.

~Andrew

Posted by: Andrew C. on 07/06/05 at 09:28 AM

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions, Adam. Everything we've been reading on the blogs makes this film sound amazing, and it's especially exciting to hear about the great new soundtrack from someone who was a part of the original cast recording.

Posted by: Steve on 07/06/05 at 09:30 AM

Thanks for the info, Adam. That clearedup a couple of things for me. Can't wait to see you in theatres!

Posted by: Aria on 07/06/05 at 09:30 AM

Adam,

How exciting. Thanks for the update. I can't wait to have the new album. I'm hoping it will include things that were left out of the OBC, but any new album of Rent will be anxiously awaited. I am happy that the cast is happy with the changes that were made and the preview knocked my socks off. I love that they show you on the bus, with April, etc. The flash-backs and more realistic settings allowed by film should really enhance the musical I love so much.

Having seen you and most of the rest of the cast in other shows and missing you all in Rent, I can't wait to see the movie with so much of the original cast.

Thank you!

Adam,

Thank you so much for answering these questions; it means so much to all of us.

I know all of you worked hard to adapt such an amazing story to the screen, and I know you'll find yourself successful. Thanks for keeping in touch with us all.

(Any news about a DVD commentary with the full cast? That would be awesome.)

Stay amazing,

Audrey

Posted by: Audrey on 07/06/05 at 09:35 AM

I can't wait for the soundtrack, even just hearing the new "Seasons of Love" is enough to get me pumped!

I love the Mute poster in the loft.

Thanks for the update.

Thank you for answering the questions, Adam! Can't wait to hear the new recording. People are being too mean about your long hair, haha.

Posted by: Josh on 07/06/05 at 09:49 AM

I think it's great that you took a moment to answer some of the fans' questions.

Now for one of my own. How do you get along with all of your co-stars? Are the off-camera relationships anything like the ones on-screen?

Posted by: Ashley Horn on 07/06/05 at 09:51 AM

Thank you so much for explaining a lot for us RentHeads. You bring so much to the hope that generations will truely appreciate the story that Jonathan gave birth to. I can't wait until the movie comes out and then the DVD. I will share this experience for generations to come. Thank you again for your commitment to making Rent "right". Our children and our children's children will know the love that Jonathan had for all of human life.

Adam-
Thanks for answering our questions. you are awesome to take time to do that. I am sad i missed you all in Santa Fe. I tried to find out because that would be a dream come true seriously, but couldn't find anything and then Chris Columbus posted and said the wrap party was there and i just about died. I am so excited to see the movie. we went and saw Bewitched so we could watch the trailer on the big screen. This is so exciting...i just want to cry! :)
Thanks again,
Rae

You rock for answering those questions. And they weren't even "yes" or "no" answers. You earn major points in my book.

Posted by: Amelia on 07/06/05 at 09:58 AM

thanks for answering questions, I always look forward to these mondays and wednesdays, although there was no update this monday. I'm actually going to see RENT on broadway today, im soo excited!! It's absolutely amazing, I cannot wait for the film. Maybe the cast could come to New York one day (Nederlander theatre or whatever) and sign autographs when the film opens, or uk what would be so hot, if there was like a special opening for the fans like the opening when u guys go but just like for the fans, idk, just dreams :). Haha, keep up the blogs, i live for these. Your awesome, i love you. <3 slash not joking. haha cannot wait until november 11

Thanks for the answers. I didn't really think to ask any questions the last time I commented, and even if I had they probably would have been incredibly stupid. So, thanks for answering intelligent questions that I couldn't think of!

Posted by: Mary on 07/06/05 at 11:05 AM

Adam - thanks so much!!! I loved your answers. And the fake snow comment made me laugh. I think that a huge part of why all of us RENTheads are so excited is because all of you guys(the cast, chris, everyone) are so excited, and you're communicating your excitement through to us =D Which is a good thing!!

Ahh I'm really looking forward to the new soundtrack..."a big loud rock record"...*relishes the thought*

Btw, someone asked earlier about "Any news about a DVD commentary with the full cast? That would be awesome." I think that would completely rock.

~Alex

Posted by: Alex on 07/06/05 at 11:06 AM

Well, looking at some of the questions again maybe they could've been better, but I still struggle with that sort of thing. So... I actually have a question now. Are you going to be in Tarzan when hits Broadway? I know you were in the workshop, but I think I remember hearing that you weren't going to be in it anymore. And another question (because once they start they don't stop coming) after the whole Rent movie is over, do you think that you'll return to Broadway or make more movies or release a new CD or go do something else? I'm just curious. Yeah, so thanks for reading this. I hope it wasn't a complete waste of your time. I think you're brilliant, by the way.
~Mary

Posted by: Mary on 07/06/05 at 11:10 AM

something caught me in what you said

"...we became the physical image."

First, let me say that I'm extremely excited about RENT becoming a movie, but there just seems to be a problem with it too.

You, the OBC, are such a big part of what makes RENT, RENT. You guys set all the standards...And it seems that changes you make no matter how small or seemingly insignificant...it almost seems like you aren't proud of how it came out originally...

I realize you guys keep saying it's true to the original, but I can't help but think you're lying to yourselves.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you guys prove me wrong, I can't wait to see you guys in the movie...just a concern

Posted by: Bree on 07/06/05 at 11:11 AM

It's really great of you to answer some of our questions like this! We need all the connections we can get until November! Everytime I come here and find something new, it just gets me more and more excited for this movie! You guys are all awesome!
Love always,

Adam! You're awesome! I've been at work checking this site every 15 minutes or so just to see when you updated :)

I just have 1 more question:
Will you marry me?? :) HAHA

I am SO excited about this film. I've been waiting for it to come out forever, but never actually thought I would see the day. But only a few more months left!

I'm so glad you agreed to play Roger again. It just wouldn't have been the same without you!

Love,

PS-My friend Myers said you were such a nice guy and that he had so much fun talking with you :)

Adam

You are flippin'

sweet.

I saw Rent for the first time this year

I think the essence of Rent

cannot be changed.

It has a timeless and

REAL

quality.

I'm not worried about if the movie will

live up to the

legacy.

It will

Posted by: Michelle on 07/06/05 at 11:44 AM

This really is a special thing that such an amazingly talented, not to mention busy, person can take the time to answer peoples' specific questions. Thank you so much Adam!

I love what is being done with the film version, even if minor changes have been made, because that just makes it fit better for the movie. RENT will always be RENT!

Oh yeah, and no matter how much I absolutely miss the short spikey Roger hair, I LOVE the hair now.

Counting the minutes til November!

Posted by: Chrissy on 07/06/05 at 12:07 PM

Thank you so much, I have been wondering those questions to death, and to hear them from you was...yay. Heh.

I will miss the blonde spikes, but you can really pull off any hair, and like you said, it doesn't change Rent one bit, as long as you're still Roger.

I cannot wait until November 11th, I'm counting the minutes (and over-listening to the soundtrack, if there's a such thing, which I don't actually think there is...hehe...)!

Love Always and Forever
~Serena~

Posted by: Serena on 07/06/05 at 01:01 PM

Cool I can't wait to see the Rent Movie and well it may sound really cheesy and stuff but I'm in a theater camp now and welll........Rent kind of really pushed me to go after my Broadway dreams. And I only wish that I could have the oppurtunity to thank Johnathan Larson for creating it. And of course I would like to thank the entire cast because It's hard work to put on a show and I know it, then again it must be even harder on broadway, I'm only in little camp shows that no one has ever heard of.

Posted by: Megan on 07/06/05 at 01:25 PM

Thank you muchly for taking time out to answering Fan questions. This is why I love Broadway actors, they actually take the time out to talk to us and let us know the info flat out. I just want to say I love the new Roger hair. I was a little skeptical about it at first but after seeing it in real life at the East Village set, I fell in love. But since it gets frizzy it sort of has a mind of its own and its easy to start making fun of it (just thought I'd let you know the truth)

So glad that this film is being made with 6 out of the 8 original cast members and that you are attempting to stay true for the fans. No matter what it turns out like, we will love and treasure it

Thanks again

Posted by: Di on 07/06/05 at 01:48 PM

I know it's been said by almost everyone before me...but thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. It's really nice to hear from cast members of the movie themselves about every subject addressed in people's questions.

Thanks again! Can't wait for the movie :-)

Posted by: Joey on 07/06/05 at 02:33 PM

Adam!

Thank you for the wonderful responses to the questions that have been plauging my mind and others as well.

I have never saw the Broadway Show, but from pictures, I realized its not how Roger looks its how you play the character. I don't mind the long hair, but you are THE Roger.

Can't wait to see this in theatres! Thank you (and the other cast members) for reprising your role(s).

Posted by: Andi on 07/06/05 at 02:54 PM

I can't wait to hear everyone's voices now. I bet the new recording will surpass the old one.

Posted by: Carla on 07/06/05 at 03:43 PM

I am really impressed at the fact that you took the time to respond to questions indivudally like that. In fact, I'm impressed with this whole site - you guys have all been so great about communicating with the fans.

I'm wicked excited for the movie; I think it's going to be great.

And btw, when I showed my friend (a huge Renthead - actually, she was the one who introduced me to teh show) the trailer, she was ecstatic. AND, she said that the only thing she really wanted changed from the original, was Roger's hair. She really loves that you have long hair now - it's how she's always envisioned it. (And I have to agree.)

Hey Adam -

Not much to say other than to thank you for posting. :-) Hope to see you soon...

Hey... mahalo for the update...

It's really comforting for the fans to recognize that the actors who were a part of this show in the begining are happy with the result. Loved the trailor and I can't wait for more!

Also I can't wait for the Soundtrack!!! I know it was asked before, but when will it come out?

Mahalo again!

aloha,
Kimo

Hey Adam! You are fabulous! You made a great Roger in RENT and a wonderful Radames in AIDA. Have you ever thought of revisiting the stage in these roles? If so, wait until I get to be AIDA to go back to that one. Thanks! And good luck in the future.

Wow,
I've been listening to your awsome voice since my sis saw Rent in 1998... I've seen it twice in Ottawa and I'm SO pleased to hear that 6 of the original cast members are in the movie! I will finally see YOU and Anthony sing! Aaah!
Taking Rent to the big screen is the greatest idea ever. If Chris Columbus hadn't done it, I would have!

Posted by: Julie on 07/06/05 at 06:36 PM

"Less Johnny Rotten"?
Oh no!

Well, I am excited to see how this turns out at any rate. = )

Posted by: Colleen on 07/06/05 at 07:12 PM

Wow! That's so cool. It's really comforting to see how down-to-Earth all your are. I mean, the things I know about you and the cast are only the things that I read. This entry and these blogs have really solidify my faith and admiration in/for all of you. This just makes me even more excited for the movie (if that's possible). Well, can't WAIT to see the movie! All the best, all my love, and most of all, all my thanks.

Adam! I can't wait the movie to come out, as a Renthead (Who has sadly never seen the show due to recent exposure, as well as living too far away) I'm extremely excited! The soundtrack and movie will be great. I've watched the trailer 4789478978949784 times, you're all so good.

I really appreciate your honest approach - never lose that.

Posted by: Jane on 07/06/05 at 10:31 PM

I think it's funny so many have commented on Roger's hair and Adam Pascal's hair. I unfortunately, like so many, didn't see the OBC. In fact, I just figured out what OBC means and really didn't "see" the cast until I found out the film was REALLY being shot and became obsessed with this site. I have heard the voices of Rent for many, many years and find new meaning in "Seasons of Love" to this very day. I love this musical. The answer you gave, about none of us knowing what Johnathan would want and the essence, was poetic (and not pathetic). Mr. Larson left a beautiful treasure for us all to interpret for ourselves. Adam, you sound very smart and realistic. I saw a touring "Rent" and it was amazing but the cartoony Roger did seem very recreated. If you are indeed the REAL Roger then...We're O.K.! I wish Mimi was a 5'3'' redhead from California. We might not need a match to light that candle....ooops I mean- did I mention how much I LOVE this musical?

***TracyLynn***

The Original Broadway Cast is killer but for the people who have not read the new Joanne's blog (who apparently looks enough like the old Joanne) these new chicks are awesome and she is clearly a "Renthead". Rosario is looking a little skinny, so please feed her Roger, oops I mean Adam. You must be feeling like a soap opera star. We're okay. I am sure it will be FANTASTIC!!

Thank you so much, Adam!
I have a question for Anthony: How similar do you think you and Mark are-in other words, how much of him is there in you, or vice versa? Do you find it difficult to get into character as Mark?
Also, just on a random note, what is your favorite song in Rent to sing and why?
Thank you, Mr. Rapp. I love you madly!
Always,
Beth

Posted by: Beth on 07/07/05 at 07:20 AM

you are so lucky to be in rent, with all these amazing singers!i hope wen i grow up i can eventually get on broadway, by that time though rent prob. wount b on broadway still. i am gonna be at the box office 11-11-05 and be there the day it comes of on dvd

Posted by: nie on 07/07/05 at 07:40 AM

Oh my god! It's not fair, I live in the Netherlands and Rent is coming out there on March 16. I can't believe that I have to wait that long. It hurts!
But this blog helps curing my pain... :)
Thank you!

Posted by: Loes on 07/07/05 at 10:33 AM

ahahha..... i like your new hair a lot!! i think it was baisically the only improvement to your roger i could have thought of. ^_^.
do you think your voice has changed significantly from ten years ago, or is it still pretty much the same?? and is there any way we can hear rosario sing?? i keep searching for some sort of sound clip, but i cant find one...

i hope you dont get overwhelmed by all these posts and questions. i guess maybe you're used to it, but it still seems like so much... i am so excited that i'll get to see most of the original cast!!

one last question: what do you think the film will be rated?? do you know?? when will we know? (ok, you might not know the answers to those. srry.)

I love you adam!!! you are the one and only celeb-type guy that i swoon over.
cannot wait until i get to see you and the rest of the cast on the 11th!!

smiles,

Hey Adam! Thanks so much for answering those questions! I've said it a thousand times, but here i go again, I cannot wait for this film! With all love and dedication you all put into it, it will most definitely make the perfect transition to the screen.
I dont know if you'll be answering more questions, but if you are..I have a few:
-What was your favorite scene to film? why?
-What was it like to be back with the RENT cast again..did you all pick up right where you left off? was it awkward at all?
-You touched on a little about how your maturing and aging has inlfluenced your current portrayal of Roger. What was it like to come back to this character, is it a character you like or connect with at all?
-What is your favorite song in RENT(it doesn't neccessarily have to be sung by you)?
well, that's all I've got off the top of my head..thank you so much if you read or answer this!
love,
Chelsea

Adam, you are lovely. Thank you so much and rock on!
QUESTIONS FOR ANTHONY:
Hi Mr. Rapp, you are one of my idols. Your voice is so beautiful and touchingly real and I am totally in awe of your honesty and your truthfulness. You are a truly amazing man.
I know you've said in the past you were unhappy with the mixing of the OBC album. Are you happier with this one?
What methods do you use to get into character as Mark, or as any character you portray?
If you could say anything to Mr. Larson, or ask him anything about how to make this film, what would you say or ask?
I'm so sorry to be peppering you with questions, I know you're busy. Stay true to yourself, Anthony. You are such an inspiration to me!
Love always,
Elizabeth

Haha you rock! I'm one of the "younger fans" of RENT, but god... I love it so much!

I was in New York about a week ago (I live in Hawaii, I was there for a trip) and I saw RENT...
the broadway cast sounds amazing! I'm sure you all do too...

I didn't know any of the songs except for Seasons Of Love (haha most famous, eh?), but all of them are amazing!

Thanks for spending your time answering the questions for us fans.

Adam, i've got 2 questions for you!

1. Which cast memeber would you say you've grown the closest to, or have always been closest too?

2. What's been the funnest song/scene to film for you?

YOU ROCK, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

Love,
Julia

Adam-
I just wanted to stop and say thank you to you and the rest of the cast. Ever since I first heard the soundtrack of RENT, I knew every word and every meaning in the show was very powerful and can teach everyone how to live life to the fullest. It has taught me so much over the years and I use it to teach my employees in my buisness today. I cannot wait to see everyone on Nov. 11. Also, hopefully one day my dreams will be real and I will be able to be in RENT one day. "FORGET REGRET OR LIFE IS YOURS TO MISS." Take care and thanks again for all the great work you and the rest of the cast do.

Posted by: Danny on 07/08/05 at 12:49 AM

I hope you had a blast in Santa Fe.
I have to tell you that the most memorable experience of my trip to New York in high school was probably meeting your mom. After my group watched RENT, we stood outside the doors and swamped you for your autograph. After you'd signed my book for me, I stood aside with it, basking in the thrill of it all. A woman came up to me and asked to see what you'd written, and I showed her. "It's just his name," I said, "but it's really cool because he was my favorite character!"
"Mine too," she replied. "He's my son!"
I was so excited that I can't remember the rest of the conversation. My husband has since pointed out that I should have gotten your mom's autograph, too!

I am excited to see the movie--at first I was worried about the true vibe of the play---I am one of those purest who's seen it a ton of times, and never wants anything to change. Then I watched the trailer. I will be in line the day it opens and it will be in my dvd player the day it goes on sale. Thanks Adam, you've done a good thing.

QUESTION FOR ANTHONY-OR ANYONE WILLING TO ANSWER IT-

I don't know if this has been asked once or more times before, but I'm very curious as to your thoughts...

Rent, has changed so many lives, so deeply. I credit the production for not only brightening my world, but saving my own life in general. It gives so many people, young people, suffering through withdrawls, through trying to gain acceptance, to find love, working through sickness, staying true to who they are, or simply managing to -survive-...

Verging to make this short as possible... Rent has a very powerful and prominent message, but our world, our surroundings, and the people with in it are not always so accepting...

How do you think- aside from the fans- the world will recieve this vision? The movie gives acsess to more people than the broadway production or tour ever could... Do you have any thoughts on how the general people-...Those who go without ever knowing the story- will react to it...?

And further, in your own thoughts... What do you think RENT might do for the gay and lesbian community?

I've hardly words to thank Chris, and all the cast for pushing so hard to make this real... It means alot to me, and to thousands of others.... Did you ever think...When Jonathan was explaing everything....That his dream would change the world for so many young people? And does it still surprise you today?

I am so incredibly excited for this film. I can't find the words to describe it. And I haven't even been able to see the show on broadway. I've never gotten the chance. That's why the movie is so wonderful. Now so many more people can enjoy the show and grow from it. The music is so moving, and the trailer looks awesome. Question: When will the soundtrack be released?!

Posted by: Kate on 07/09/05 at 10:39 PM

Hey!
I just have to say, I love all of the original broadway cast members! All of you make me feel every emotion possible through your songs. I cannot wait to see the movie!!!

I have a question: I heard that some of the songs from the play are being cut from the movie. Is this true and if so which ones will not be in the movie? I was really disappointed to hear that some of the songs may be cut because i love every song from Rent with all of my heart.

Break a Leg in all of your future endeavors!

I listened to the OBC classic today and although I was sad and in an awful mood, I yet AGAIN was comforted by the music because "I don't own emotion I rent...", in no time I was singing along. I LOVE RENT!!!!! I can't wait until the new CD rocks my world. Adam you are hot.

Hey Adam!
Thanks for answering those questions! You are absolutley phenominal and I can't wait to have your protrayl of Roger captured forever!!
I also wanted to let you know, if you read these, that I just bought your album "Civilian" today. Which is huge, because I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. So at HMV in Halifax you can't buy Rent, or West Side Story, but Civilian is there. You're a super star! :)

Adam!
Ok, The guy who asked you about the long haired Roger look needs to get some new things to worry about. I mean your hair changes more than Anthony Rapp guest stars in Movies and the X-Files! Which is awesome! Oh yea, I think you should go to INDY on tour and play at this cute little hippie village called "broadripple" Cus, you have like a TON of fans here.

Posted by: Casey on 07/15/05 at 12:18 PM

Adam, your answers to the questions were wonderful, thank you. I am such a huge fan of yours and not just because of RENT. I have to admit that that is how I learned who you were, but your voice is incredible and your talent is boundless. I have Model Prisoner and Civilian and have turned many people on to your music.

I'm stoked about the movie beyond the level that words can express, but even more than that, I am very, very happy that finally people not associated with Broadway and New York will see you shine on screen and what you can do!!! I've felt that you haven't acheived the crossover star status you so richly deserve. I hope that the film is as good as the goosebumps the trailer gives me tells me it is.

My site is listed on the RENT webring under Sandra's Aida Fansite which you may or may not be familiar with, but yeah, I've been a fan for quite some time!

Much love, and wishes for much success in your music and personal life. God bless.

Adam,
My friend and I have been obsessed with rent for a long time. We loved your voice as Roger and then soon realized you were also in Aida which is also one of our favorite plays. We could not figure out what your name was and we were going on all these internet sites and then one day we finally found you! We love you, and can't wait to see you in the movie! When we heard you be in the movie too we almost died! We're so excited and wish you the best of luck with the movie! Thanks!

Um, my question isn't Rent related whatsoever, but more personal. I was wondering what your middle name is, cuz I'm planning on naming my son Adam (just love the name), and was wondering what yours was, just to see how it sounds together. If you wish to reveal, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you muchly, Adam. ~Chris

I always love to read/listen to what you have to say because you never come off as celebrity-phony or cheesy.

Will any of your (or any other cast member's) own music get to make an appearance in the movie?

Thanks for taking the time to blog, and for singing so awesomely.

are you intimidated by people flocking around you? do you consider yourself a celebrity, per se? any paparazzi? i'm fascinated w/ the feelings of those that are considered icons, almost unhuman, in today's society. does this faze you at all? or is it just a way of life now?

the whole system is a little whack if one spares it the thought...

in short--how do you feel about celebrity status?!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to our questions. You have no idea how much it means to me. I'm so so so excited for the movie to come out. I have one question: Is it weird to perform Rent in front of a camera and not on a stage? Is the equiptment, crew, or camera in your face ever distracting at all? Keep up the hard work!

Any chance you'll be doing Rent onstage again, maybe for the 10th anniversary of the opening? That would be incredible. Oh yeah, don't let anyone make fun of your hair, I think it's awesome!

First of all, I'm so excited that a movie of Rent will be coming out. I have a question: mostly I'm curious about something. I live in New Mexico and I wanted to know what filming in Santa Fe was like. I saw the tour of Rent when it came to Albuquerque and I was surprised to find a song about a city I know very well in there! Thank you for answering all of those questions...I breathlessly await the release of the movie.

I haven't seen the play, and I was just wondering how much the film has in common with the play. Either way, can't wait to see the movie!

Dude, I totally love you...and Roger..though Roger's not my favourite character-*stops to pat Mark on the head*- who can help but love him? He's a smartass, but he's an awesome depressed guitarist...so...yeah. (Why am I pointing out the obvious...) And I'm happy that Roger gets longer hair in the movie; me and my friend, the first time we saw a pic from it, we were like 'Dude, Roger's even hotter now!' Hehe. Also...I wanted to ask...what's your favourite musical? I mean, besides RENT? *coughCATScough* :p I'm a total musical freak, I'm in love with a million different shows, so I always have to ask that, lol. Well, love ya, see ya, can't wait for the movie!

Adam:

I'm not sure if you remember me...I was Director of Public Relations for Nautica and I asked you to walk in a runway show. I came to see you doing Hedwig and we hung out for a while and had a drink. Two days before the Nautica Fashion Show, your manager called me to tell me that you couldn't be in the show. I was devastated.

Well, now I can't wait to see you again in the movie. I'm going to see the show tonight for my 15th time because I'm due and I can't wait until November for the movie!

I wish you the best of luck in the world. The only thing on my mind these days is trying my damnest to get into the premiere of the movie! I'm trying every which way I can because I HAVE GOT TO BE THERE!! I'm even trying to go through an old friend of mine, Leslie Sloane, Rosario's publicist. No luck yet.

Well, I hope I get to see you again on Premiere night. If so, I hope you remember me. I'd love to hear if you're performing anywhere locally in the city.

Best of luck to you!

i was just graduating high school - headed off to college when i first fell in love the stage musical version. i am now a private voice teacher almost ten years later! i have earned a bachelor degree in music theater vocal performance, and a bachelor in music education, emphasis in vocal education.......... blah, blah, i never thought that i would well-up in tears and chills as i did the first time i discovered the stage soundtrack, as much as i did as hearing/seeing the trailor for the movie for the first time! bravo that you all made it to the screen and that you have obviously made jonathan larson so proud - and trust me , i am sure this can be seen from the stars above! again , BRAVO! - greg

Posted by: Greg on 10/22/05 at 08:33 PM

Adam,
You completely took my breath away the first time I heard you sing back when I was in high school. You ARE the part of Roger for me and when I saw it on stage after you had left, it wasn't the same. It was still amazing. This show (and now movie) will always touch me in a way that no other show has. No matter how many times I see or listen to it, I still get chills and my eyes still well up at literally dozens of moments.
I just want to thank you for doing this project and allowing so many of us who miss you in the part of Roger to see it again, and eventually own it on DVD. Your emotion and intensity in the part are what made a lot of us fall in love with Roger, and Rent, in the first place.

Thank you.

Hey!! I just want to tell you, that you and the rest of the cast kicke major ass in the movie, just as you guys do at everything else you do!!

Posted by: Samantha on 11/27/05 at 03:00 PM

Wow, I mean that is simply the only way I can explain RENT. I saw it twice over the weekend it came out, and both times I cried, and both times it was equally amazing. You are all such and inspiration to me. I didn't expect the movie to be such as moving as the play but there are some many more technical things that you can do with a movie that's not possible with the play. It brought about a new way of picturing the setting of the play and the troubles everyone went through. Not to mention how awesome you did. I was in the theatre and I was blown away. I was thinking to myself "Wow, this is different from the original, but I love it."

I do have a question for you though. How did you get into acting on Broadway. It's always been kind of a far-fetched dream of mine, but I would love to know your story.

Thanks! Much love,
Molly

Hey Adam,
My name is Rebecca, I love RENT and the movie came out on my 16th birthday but I was wondering if you could pass this message onto the rest of the cast, this letter is also viewed towards you as well, Here it goes :
To the cast of RENT,
I just wanted to say that you guys have done nothing but amaze and bless thousands of people who have seen the actual broadway show but also the movie as well. I know for a fact that you have an angel that is looking out for all of you. I know for a fact that Jonathan Larson would be so proud of all of you. I also know that you will do great things with the rest of your lives. So I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all that you have done.
Thank you for the memories!

Posted by: Rebecca H. on 11/29/05 at 01:41 PM

Man, if I only I knew of this blog earlier! Oh well, better late than never...

I just wanted to say that I think it's wonderful of you and the rest of the cast to read and post on these blogs. I know you have family *jealousy*, but you took the time to talk to your fans. That is amazing. I was always a Rent fan since '96, and now I love you guys even more. Thanks again.

The movie is fantastic- and I'll be honest, I was a bit disapponited the first time I saw it. I was still happy to see you guys (original cast), but a little mad at the director for leaving a few songs out- among other things. After seeing it the second time, and few more times after that (LOL) I'm not mad at him. He did a wonderful job, and I see why he did it that way. I'm glad he had you guys re-do the roles, and I am very proud of Tracie. She WAS Johanne. Rosario did a great job as Mimi, too.. although, I AM jealous.

I've always loved your Roger since '96, but after seeing the movie, I've got this huge crush on YOU. I haven't had a crush on anyone since the 8th grade (I'm 24. lol). You are just the cutest thing. By the way, I love your hair. *wink wink*

Ok, I'm done making a fool of myself. I'm proud of you guys. I wish you and the rest of the cast much success. Love ya!!

Hi Roger!
I wanted to thank you for your fabulous performance in RENT! I love your work so much! You were absolutely fantastic in Aida (which I saw in July of '04 I believe). You have an amazing voice, and I appreciate the time and hard work you contributed to make RENT the movie it is.
