Playing the filmmaker behind the scenes, too, Anthony?

Posted by: Ashley Horn on 06/01/05 at 04:35 PM

Yay I am so glad we get to watch those sort of things. It's good to see them right there with the rest of the cast and crew. It just makes me smile.

Also loving the fact that the "filmmaker" of the show is behind the camera. :)

Posted by: Dana on 06/01/05 at 05:10 PM

Its great to see Anthony really taking up his role as Mark, the one capturing everything on film. These are really funny to watch. Keep up the good work Anthony.

Thats comedy. Looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully there will be more!

Posted by: Alisa on 06/01/05 at 05:21 PM

First of all I have to say that I am VERY excited for the movie. My friends and I are planning to sleep outside the theatre by our houses for at least one night so we can get really good seats! Now that that is said.....Al.....Your hat is really cool. Good work techies! I love you guys just as much as the actors because you couldn't do your jobs without one another. I'm a tech/actor if you couldn't tell. Anyways I hope everything goes well with shooting and please do more tape blogs (not blurbs lol). Break a leg!

Posted by: Katie L on 06/01/05 at 05:40 PM

I love these video blog things. Wayyyy more fantabulous than just writing, though writing is always good. Anyway, I loved the video! Thanks for keeping us informed!

163(give or take a day) days until Nov. 11! I am counting down and reminding everyone, and everyone here is quite annoyed with me right now. I think they'll be relieved when the film finally comes out.

Thank you again, it means so much to know about the production of this movie!

Posted by: Megan on 06/02/05 at 04:34 PM

It's so great of you guys to take the time to make videos and post online about all the on-set happenings. I know that all us fans can hardly wait for the trailer, much less the entire movie to come out, and having these little bits and pieces of filming and feelings surrounding it really does make us feel like we're a part of it! Thanks so much!

Posted by: Emma on 06/02/05 at 10:47 PM

I don't know how to put into words the feeling I have at the moment. I just found the site after seeing the trailer, posted to a LJ. I'm excited beyond belief that I will get to see RENT! again, and again, and again, and hope to venture across the states to NYC to see it in person. I hope that it's still showing when I can make it. Until then, I've been insatiated only getting to see the touring show three times.
The ups and downs along the way for the family of Jonathan Larson meld into the feeling of the show that much more, and add so much more depth and meaning to the show.
I'm grateful that the decision was finally made to make the movie a reality, and to hear that it's being done so well and keeping so much of the reality of the play is wonderful. The trailer made me tear up, and so far it looks to be a great show. Thank you for keeping Jonathan's vision alive and moving.

Posted by: Shawn on 06/03/05 at 11:07 AM

Aww! Papa Larson is too cute. I loved it. Thank you!

Posted by: Katherine on 06/04/05 at 10:07 AM

Do you play in an online "metaverse" called There(Normally referred to as There.com)? Just wanted to know. :)

Posted by: Danny on 06/05/05 at 02:55 AM

Thank you for that clip! It is wonderful that you are all on set! Good luck!

Posted by: Amy on 06/05/05 at 08:14 AM

I would like to start off by saying that I am extremely excited to find out about RENT finally being made into a movie!

I have been a fan of RENT since I first heard the CD about 7 or 8 years ago. I was in high school and my friend Carmela was completely obsessed with the show. She had already been to NYC to see the show, and she of course loved it!

I can remember the Christmas I received the cd of the original cast, it was the best present ever. I must have played the cd so many times that night. It wasn't too long after that I finally went to see the show in NYC. I can remember times after seeing the show where it would play over in my mind again and again; I believe I even had dreams of it turning into a movie.

I can't wait till the movie premiers. My friends and I will be first in line to get tickets. I'm Glad to hear that most of the original cast was able to participate in the filming, and I wish everyone the best of luck!

Posted by: Meghan on 06/05/05 at 07:31 PM

Aww..Julie...thank you for that clip. I was laughing, it was very cute. And nice to see everyone joking and getting along. Thank you for helping make this movie possible. I think that it's important for the new generation to hear your brothers music. He has been an inspiration and a hero for me since I'm 12. And I cannot wait to see RENT on the big screen. Thank you, and good luck. Best wishes to the whole Larson Family!

Posted by: Jess on 06/05/05 at 10:55 PM

I find it interesting that you joined the cast for filming of this movie. I remember checking your website a while ago and there was huge controversy over you not doing the movie unless as many original cast members as possible were in it. Luckily, you got your wish, and we got ours. I'll be 20 when I see RENT in theatres, unfortunately I didn't get to see the original performance on stage, but if this movie is as good as your performance in Wicked, I'm sure RENT will finally get the true recognition it deserves. Good luck guys!!!

Posted by: Sean on 06/06/05 at 07:03 PM

is there anyway to add quicktime so that mac-users are able to view the videos?

Posted by: Sam on 06/07/05 at 11:34 AM

Posted by: Bianca on 06/07/05 at 12:53 PM

Sam, if you can watch on AOL, it's streaming there. Type "rent trailer" into keyword. I did that and it popped right up!

Posted by: Dex on 06/07/05 at 02:53 PM

I saw the trailer last night and it drew me in immediately. I'm really proud of the work that all of you are doing and I fondly remember the many times I've seen the musical, but always recalling the original cast as the one with the most spunk and relateable qualities. Wicked is so different without the original Elphie! :sigh: This movie is going to make me want to go back into the theatre business...can't wait.

Posted by: Carol on 06/08/05 at 10:48 AM

Um who is the exception?

Posted by: Callie on 06/08/05 at 11:15 AM

I am a huge RENT and Wicked fan, so seeing this movie will be such an experience for me! At first I thought that it couldn't be as good as the play... but after seeing the trailer I'm extremely excited! I can't wait to see it!

Posted by: Susie on 06/09/05 at 08:14 AM

EEP that was AMAZING!

*does eep dance*

*...to la vie boheme*

I wish I could have met Jonathon Larson...*sigh*

Genius beyond words.

i must say that im so excited for this movie to come out! my friends and i are planning on going at midnight of the 11th! were huge fans! not only do we constantly listen to the rent and wicked cd's, but we speak of you and the shows almost everyday! i guess you could say were a tad bit obsessed. but you're incredibly talented, and a great role model. keep up all the good work! you're a wonderful inspiration to those who wish to persue the "hard to reach" life. well best wishes! much love to you and the rest of the "Rent" cast!!!

Posted by: christianna on 06/14/05 at 09:37 PM

I am so excited for this movie to come out, I can't tell you. It is so wonderful that so much of the brilliant original cast is a part of it. Woohoo!! I will definetely be first in line on Nov.11 in Montreal to see it!

Viva la vie bohème!

Posted by: Annie on 06/15/05 at 09:53 AM

Idina,

your arms are NOT fat! Take a look at yourself in that skintight "cat burgular" suit and tell me any part of you is fat ;)

sheesh.....girls...

Posted by: Scott Gorbach on 06/15/05 at 10:17 AM

oh my goodness! I am so excited for this!!!!!!!! I know yall won't let all us fans down. wow what an honor. I'm so glad so many original people are in it.

Posted by: Christina on 06/15/05 at 07:49 PM

The trailer looks great guys!! I have tried to follow your careers over the past few years, and have never been disappointed! What an amazing group of talented people, and to top it off with Chris Columbus! As someone who knows what it's like to close a show and really wish you could go back and do it one more time, I'm insanely jealous that you have that opportunity!! Or in Idina's case (La Vie Boheme), 723!! Jump over that 'moon' girl!!

Posted by: Katie on 06/16/05 at 01:01 PM

Your arms are not fat! You are my idol!!

Posted by: Abby Schultz on 06/17/05 at 02:18 PM

Oh Idina...

You're arms are buff! You are so talented and i loved you in Wicked. This is random but I saw you in it during the world series and instead of telling you how amazing you were after the show at the stage door ..i asked you who won the world series. I think you thought i was little odd. I apologize..i am an idiot! YOU ARE FREAKIN AWESOME and you have vocal chords of steel! I cant wait for the movie!

Posted by: Kristin O'Connell on 06/17/05 at 09:26 PM

i cant WAIT to see "Over the Moon" its one f my favorite songs. actually the whole musical is just one big song, and thats what i love about it. i cant wait to see u on the big screen, im sure i'll flip out cause ur just so awesome. i saw u in Wicked and i was saying to myself "i want to be just like her" and i hope i get that far. being on stage is my dream. your my idol (i know u probably get that all the time), i always sing along with the songs u sing just hoping i can get as good as you. anywho, i hope u have a ton of fun filming (and ur arms are not fat!), i cant wait to see it in November, its top of my "To Do" list :).

<3

Posted by: Nicole on 06/18/05 at 12:19 PM

I echo what others have said....YOU DON'T HAVE FAT ARMS!!!! You're going to go and smack Taye for putting that on the blog, aren't you? :) Anyways, I can't wait to see the film. I love the music, and I know that everyone will be doing it justice. If you ever get the time, there is a song called "I am Cow" by the Arrogant Worms that would amuse you.

Woot for not paying Rent!!!

Posted by: Amanda on 06/19/05 at 12:05 AM

Hey CAST!
You guys ROCK!! I'm so happy that the OBC is back with 2 newbies who are gonna be FABULOUS! I'm so ecstatic that its finally being made into a movie and can be experienced by people all over the world. I know we RENT HEADS have been waiting along time for even the option of RENT becoming a movie...and now its a reality. Larson would be proud!
PEACE

Posted by: Ezequiel on 06/19/05 at 01:19 PM

would it be possible to post a version of this in quick-time too? that's the only thing I can see, and everyone says its so cute! other than that, keep up the good work guys! I don't think that I can wait til November, and I'm so glad someone is finally doing this, in a way that will do justice to jonathan's vision and brilliance!

Posted by: Megan on 06/22/05 at 01:18 PM

Feels very good to know that the family is on site while they're filming! This movie just keeps looking better and better!

Posted by: Lance on 06/22/05 at 04:34 PM

i'm not sure if idina actually read these comments....but this is worth writing anyway.

dear idina,
my name is alex nunley and i'm 16 years old. ever since i first saw "rent" i have been a huge fan of yours. upon researching your career, i developed a very deep admiration for both your determination and bold choice in roles, especially the multitude you originated.
next year will be my senior year in high school, and since i was nine, i have been performing in musical theater. i currently attend a performing arts camp in montana every summer, teach drama classes to junior high students, sing in advanced choir, and am president of my high school performing arts group. i'm preparing to send out my college applications this fall....but i'd like some advice from you on what you think i should do to start preparing myself to become a contender in the world of professional musical theater, since that's what i want to pursue most in life.
you're probably very busy and don't have time to reply to every letter you recieve, and i completely understand. even if i don't recieve a reply from you, i would just like to thank you for being such an inspiration. you are one of the reasons i love the art, and i idolize you so much. to me, you are the most beautiful and talented artist alive today and i hope you know how much your work affects people around the world.
sincerely,
alex

Posted by: alex nunley on 06/24/05 at 05:18 PM

Jonathan Larson's musical 'RENT' is a fantastic, moving, Emotional stepping stone in theatrical history! Of all the productions I have seen, Acted in, and Directed, Nothing compares to 'RENT'. 'RENT' is by far the most moving production I have ever seen. Mr. Larson has written one hell of a musical. I am never one for being at a loss of words...but Mr. Larson’s story left me speechless and teary-eyed. Terrific job Mr. Larson! You have inspired me in many ways! You are my idol. My inspiration. I know I will never be able to write anything that can come close to ‘RENT’, but sure as I am here… I will try!

Congratulations cast! You all have done such a wonderful job keeping Mr. Larson’s work alive and fresh! All of you are absolutely amazing!
