Truly No Day But Today by Anthony Rapp (Mark Cohen)
Thanks, as always, for the outpouring of support. As we're continuing the filming process, I keep thinking about the word "forever." Nine years ago, when we opened on Broadway, everything was so thrilling and exhausting and heady and powerful, but there was always the pervasive sense that because we were doing theatre, the day would come when our time with the show would be over. That's the nature of theatre, of course, and in some ways, it's what makes theatre special: you had to be there, in that moment, to see that specific performance. And even though I did the show hundreds and hundreds of times, there are certainly nights that stand out in my memory: our opening nights downtown and uptown, the night the Clinton family came to the show, the nights of cast members' final shows, to name a few. But with film, the performance that we give on the day of shooting a particular scene will last forever. In some ways, that can be an intimidating thought, but in this case, I've found it to be very inspiring. Yesterday we shot "La Vie Boheme A" all day long, and even though it's a very vigorous and intense number, the fact that what we were doing was going to be captured for all time continuously gave me energy, and I believe gave everyone energy, so that the day flew by, and at the end of the day, I could have kept going. A couple of weeks ago, when we shot "I'll Cover You (Reprise)," I marveled at how incredibly consistent and powerful Jesse was all day long, singing his heart out again and again and again, from the first shot of the day to the last, and never giving less than 100%. Last week, Adam did the same while we filmed "Finale A" and "Your Eyes" for three days straight. I think we've all discovered that when it comes to singing these songs and filling these characters with life, we have reserves of energy and commitment that I don't think we would have known were there if we hadn't been challenged in this way. In some ways, I suppose it all fits in with the spirit of Jonathan's writing: when we're shooting a scene, there is truly no day but today (or three days, depending on how much coverage of the scene we need to capture), and I think we all recognize that, and bring our all to it. And Jonathan's words and music continue to reward us with their power and insight and joy and heartbreak, all these years later. Oh, and I have to admit that it's also a hell of a lot of fun to dance on a table, which certainly helps as well. You should try it sometime if you don't believe me. More soon... |

Hey Anthony-
Thanks for posting! I'm sure it is fun dancing on the table, I have heard that from more then one person. I hope you continue to have fun filming and keep filling us in. It is so cool to hear from the actors on the set about what is happening. : )

Anthony,
I just wanted to say that I found this entry to be wonderfully interesting. I love your work (every show and your solo CD included), so it is incredible to be able to hear about the thoughts that go through your mind during the filming of this movie that is sure to be amazing.
Thank you for everything that you are giving to this film and that you have given to any production you have been a part of. Your talent is unmatched and your wisdom and words are inspiring to us all. Good luck on the rest of filming and thank you for everything you've brought to broadway, music, and now film. You are truly gifted.

Yeah! I never really though about that; It must be interesting to finish a scene and have it be permanent after all those years of having to do it twice a day. Is it sad to realize you'll probably not be doing those scenes, especially the ones you're attatched to, ever again?
Oh, poor Adam and Jesse! Those scenes are really emotional. Congrats to them for not wavering; performing it in the theater was probably good practice for this.
I think I might have to sing along to La Vie Boheme when the film comes out..too bad the damn movie theaters dont have any tables :D
I just want to let you know that I'm a big fan and admirer of you, Anthony. I have a special connection with the character Mark, and I love how you portray him.
Good luck with the rest of the film, and God bless.

Hey Anthony
You ROCK, thanks for posting I love to read about the filming. I heard that the trailer is finally in the theater but only in the previews before Starwars, now I couldn't care less about Starwars but I'm seriously considering spending the 10 bucks just to see the trailer and to get a glimpse of the movie!
When does the Album come out?
I'm soooooooooooooooooo exited for November.
Thank you for being so wonderful to your fans.

Anthony,
You never fail to write a truly moving blog, do you? Is it too much to ask that you simply give us the 4-1-1 on what's happening? Must you always make some sort of eye-opening comment?
I, for one, am glad you do. You have a simply wonderful way of viewing the world, not unlike how Mark, himself, would see things. He's my favorite character, particularly the way that you portray him, and he (and you, naturally) has opened my eyes and really made me think.
I'd also like to extend a smaller, more personal thank you for being so open. You gave me the strength to put up with all of the heckling my girlfriend and I face every day. I've never even met you face-to-face and I still owe you so much.
That in mind, here's to you.

Dancing on tables? Sometimes when La Vie Boheme comes on in my CD player, I get up on my bed and dance as a substitute since I don't have a table in my bedroom. Thanks for the update! I hope the rest of the filming goes well for you all. And tell the other cast members to write in their blogs too!

Dancing on tables? Sometimes when I'm listening to La Vie Boheme in my room, I get up and dance on my bed and dance on it as a substitute since I don't have a table in my room. But maybe tables are more fun? Thanks for the update. I hope the rest of the filming goes great for all of you. And tell the other cast members to update their blogs too!
I tried to post this before, but I got this weird thing on my computer, so I don't know if you had to read this twice. Sorry if you did.

Thanks for the update Anthony! :-) Always an interesting and insightful read. And I agree, table dancing is a hell of a blast! Sure I almost got kicked out of the cafeteria for it but it was well worth it. :-P Anyways, good luck with the duration of filming and, as always, best wishes!

Table dancing is totally one of the best things ever. I agree, more people should do it!
I can't wait to see the final outcome. You mention Jesse and Adam's performances, but you don't give yourself enough credit. You are AMAZING and one of the sweetest, most genuine gentleman I have had the pleasure of meeting. RENT would absolutely not be the same without you. Thank you.
Can't wait to see more updates! Much love!

Anthony,
Thanks for the updates. Its really great to hear whats going on. I had a feeling that this would be emotional for you actors since you get to reprise your roles. It's true, that this is forever. While I'm sure we would all love for the play to go on forever, and its been going for 9 years which is impressive, but its just the nature of a play to eventually end. I think its worderful that Larson's message is going to be able to reach a larger crowd.
Seeing almost all the originals back together is going to be really great. You guys knew Jonathan really well and your fans have faith that you will keep the movie true to the play.
Anthony, I'm really happy for you. This must be a wonderful experience. You really are a wonderful actor and singer.
I'm looking forward to Adam's and Jesse's heartbreaking performances. You should encourage them to post!
Thanks for keeping us updated. I look forward to your future posts.

Jonathan would truly be in utter shock and wonder to see what his idea has become over the last nine years. His blood, sweat and tears has in turn given you the energy and the ability to commit to the Rent project whole heartedly. You make those like myself feel such pride in knowing that the true Rent will come across on film just as brilliantly as it does on stage.
Any chance of the ten year reunion on stage at the Nederlander? I'd give my left leg to be able to witness you all onstage together again.

There's something about your writing--or your words in general, is more like it--that is so eloquent. I wonder: have you ever thought of penning a book of some sort? I can't say I have any ideas on a subject matter for said imaginary book; but as I read this, I was enveloped in a certain sense of complacency, like, even though I’m not there, through reading this blog I’ve developed a heightened understanding of what you're trying to preserve by filming this movie and recording these thoughts while doing so. It’s obvious through that reaction that you have a way with words (pardon the cliché), and I would love to see that captured somewhere else long after this blog has ceased to be updated.
Your entries never fail to assure my faith in this project, and at this point I can’t imagine being anything less than thrilled with the finished product. Right here, almost right before our eyes we can see this group of outstandingly talented and dedicated souls pouring their hearts into it, so what else could we expect? Truly, you’ve summed up the idea of “forever” perfectly, and it’s calming to know that you and that rest of the cast and crew are doing everything you can to make this movie something worthy of the privilege of eternity. As you all continue to devote every last energy reserve to this film, know that it’s all going to be worth it in the end (though I don’t imagine you doubt that at this point). It’s a certainty that we’re all going to end up leaving the movie theater with the same tear streaks we left the Neder with. We can’t thank you enough for the devotion you’ve shown through all of this

Hey Anthony, thanks once again for keeping all of us Rent-heads thouroughly informed. I'm glad to find out that there are other people out there that think of things like what you do on just one day will live on forever, because that's the way my mind works too. I saw the trailor yesterday, and was blown away. I'm so happy that this is really happening, and after hearing all of the cast input on this blog it all feels so right and real. Thank you so much and have fun! Love. Elyse. No day but today.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad to hear that everyone is enjoying themselves while so much hard work is being preformed. I have to agree with the dancing on tables thing, It is really fun! I would also suggest dancing on top of a roof, just be careful while doing it.

In thinking about what he said about their performances lasting forever, I can't wait. I can't wait for the movie to come out in the theater and then on DVD, so when I'm having a bad day I know that I can go home and watch "La Vie Boheme" fifteen times if I wanted to because I will own it. That is so exciting to me to know that I can watch most of the original cast of Rent doing what they do best whenever I want, I wasn't lucky enough to see them perform it live, but now I will be able to see them perform it. Idina doing "Over the Moon", Adam singing "One Song Glory", Wilson dancing to "Today 4 U". It's one thing to listen to it on the soundtrack but it's a completely different story to be able to watch the people that I have grown to love in roles that they originated whenever. And for Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms, I'm excited to see what they will bring to it. I just can't wait....I LOVE RENT!!!!!!!!! and I LOVE THE CAST TOO!!!!!!

p.s. I met you at Henry V in Boston. I talked to you previously before that, it was the last night of the show and I had my RENT book ready for you to sign...I was the skinny nervous looking kid. Seems like such a long time ago.

To be truthful, Anthony, I'm a hard-core Idina fan. I'm also a dedicated RENT-head since 2000, when I first stumbled upon it (silly me- what was I doing all that time?).
Did I tell you I once got a group of 18 of my closest friends to drive five and a half hours so I could de-virginize thirteen of them to RENT? And now they're all hooked!
Anyways, just wanted to say that your blogs seem so heartfelt and I totally appreciate your desire to communicate with your fans! We love it! I met ya back in Pittsburgh during Hedwig and loved your personal concert! Keep us informend, we all seriously check this blog probably thirty times a day! We love u!

Hey there,
This is my first comment to the RENT blog. I have to say, I've been a RENT fan since it first came out on Broadway, when I was in high school. It was the second show I ever saw on broadway, and I was fortunate enough to have caught it while you still played Mark. It spoke to me then, and even though I went away from the theatre for college, it seemed to ready and waiting with the show's soundtrack when I was prepared to return. I can't even describe how excited I am about this movie. After reading Playbill.com's news articles about how Robert DeNiro owning the movie rights with Tribeca, etc... back in the late 1990s, waiting for the rumored 2000 release... I am more than tickled to be able to be kept up to date. It seems surreal that this is actually going to happen. I forsee nothing but kids in dark-rimmed emo glasses, spiked hair, and striped scarves.. or in Santa dresses with candy-striped stockings.. attending the shows (a la Lord of the Rings and Star Wars).
Frankly, I feel bad for my boyfriend, who didn't have the pleasure of knowing me during my highschool years. He will have to sit through the film with me as my friends and I belt out every note and dance in the aisles!
Thank you so much for becoming a part of this experience again for a second time! The mere fact that all of you guys are playing the roles you created make this film worth watching over and over and over again!
(Sorry for the rambling!)

Hey Anthony,
To echo everyone, thanks for all you do for your fans. I mean, taking the time out to write all these entries and "staying in character" by taping these great little videos.
I mean, it's ALWAYS great to hear from you, and Idina and Julie and Wilson, but give a poke to Adam, Jesse, Rosario,Taye, and Tracie! We want to get the scoop from them too! (or at least I want the scoop from them!)
Even with having to go back to school and be busy with shows... I am counting the days until November arrives :)

Thanks Mr. Rapp for your insight as to what are the difference one might experience in the acting career (i.e. from theatre to making films). On May 23rd, I went to see RENT as part of my 18th birthday for the first time. It was AWESOME! I can no longer those tunes out of my head...lol. Ummhhh...but yeah...I've transformed into a RENT fanatic. Well, I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the scenes you have to shoot and remember...carpe diem. Try to enjoy your co-workers friendship, you never know when or how you'll meet them again...lol...now I sound like a psychologist...Well GOOD LUCK.

Hello everybody!
I'm a RENT-head from Barcelona, Spain. In 1999-2000 there was a production of the play in my city (in spanish!) and I fell in love with it inmediately. The cast was wonderful, really. I prefer the original english version because the lyrics feel so right in its original language, though! I have never seen Rent on Broadway, but I will this summer because I'm coming to NYC. And I just wanted to inform Anthony and the rest of the cast that we who are not in the United States are waiting to see the movie as well. For us, the premiere will not be the 11-11, movies usually take longer to come to foreign countries, so you american fans are very lucky for having to wait "only" five months, and having Rent on the theatre in the Big Apple! Thank you for posting, Anthony!

Table dancing is insanely fun!
Thanks so much for keeping us updated. RENT is a huge part of my life, and I can't see it on Broadway nearly as often as I'd like to. So I can't wait for the movie! It'll give me something to look forward to when I go back to school.

Anthony,
You are honestly my favourite person in the world right now! I've been listening to the Rent soundtrack for the past 5 days and I'm just totally in love! I am over-the-top, beyond belief excited about this movie! I really think that, although seeing it on stage would have been even better, the movie will truly make my life complete. Because I've never seen the show, I'm always imagining how the scene would look and how each character would move in time to the music. I'm also really looking forward to seeing the story in it's wholeness. I know the basic story but for something like Rent, you really have to watch the whole thing to get it (or at least that's what I've been told). You have no idea how much respect I have for you and the cast. This can't be an easy thing to convert into a movie and from the sounds if it, you guys are all working your butts off for us (the fans) and yourselves. You all should be crazy proud [even more so than you are now! X)]. So, once again, all the best, my love, admiration, and most of all, appreciation.

Hi There!
I just saw the trailer for RENT, and I quite honestly cried like a little 6 year old girl. I saw you guys in the original cast 9 years ago, and it was an amazing experience.
So naturally, when I heard a movie was being made, I thought: "Meh". We all know what happens when excellent Broadway shows get made into movies. [cough cough Chorus Line cough] But the trailer made me a believer.
How many more days is it until Nov. 11th?? [twitches]

Sounds like the cast is really having a great time! Reading all of your entries just makes me more excited for the movie! Are you recording the songs again, or will you be singing to the album already recorded? Thanks for posting!!!

Anthony, thank you for such a beautiful and instightful blog entry! You are a fantastic writer and I would love to see you on the other side of the stage as well! It was really facsinating to hear what it is like for you, someone who has been with Rent since the very beginning (even the first workshop, am I right?), to be filming these scenes that will be cemented in our culture. I just found this blog today, and it is wonderful to know that you and the other cast members are nice enough to share your experiences while filming with fans. I feel an enormous connection to RENT in so many ways, and before I read this, I was worried that the film might be, in the words of Jonathan, like "selling out". Your entry has assured me this is not the case and that the film will be true to the essence of what Rent is all about. If it wasn't going to be moving and powerful in its own right, I don't think anyone originally involved with the production would have signed on! I enjoy all your work as an actor and look to it as inspiration for my own work as well. I appreciate you reading this if you've gotten this far and I am looking forward to seeing the film in its finished form. Good luck to you and everyone in the cast and crew on the rest of filming and thank you for keeping Jonathan's spirit alive with your performance and dedication.
All the best,
Erika

Updates! Yay!
*does a happy dance*...but not on a table since I'm at the library right now and would probably get yelled at for it.
I DID dance on a table in the band room once. (It was during band camp, lots of pixie sticks were involved, I have since been told that I'm not allowed to have pure sugar for breakfast, and if I come to rehersal sugar shocked again that early in the morning, I will be tied up and left in a cubbie until lunch.) But it was still fun! ^_^
Anyway, as always, thanks for the post. I finally got my hands on your solo CD- and loved it. Wonderful. Can't wait 'til November. Gracias.

"No Day But Three Days" doesn't quite have the same ring to it ;)
I think the reason I'm so excited about many OBC members doing the movie is that it is being forever immortalized on film. I might have been too young to see y'all on Broadway back in the day, but now at least I get to see for myself why 9 years later, everyone's still talking about the original Rent cast members. And I still can't get over the fact that one day I'm going to be able to watch Rent every day on DVD, it's just too surreal.
Thanks so much for keeping us updated, I can't think of another movie where the cast has been so dedicated to the fans of the show, even while the movie is still filming. I check this page so much for updates that I think it qualifies as borderline OCD! And, for the record, I have danced on tables before, and totally agree that it's a blast!

Hey Anthony.
Thanks so much for keeping us informed! I saw the trailer and I loved it!
Dancing on a table. Yes, well, I've already tried that one. Just goes to show what an interesting person I am. But just for the sake of being bored and laughing while reading your blog, I think I'll try it again. :D

Hey Anthony! I posted once, but I just needed to come back to echo what everyone else has said: you are an incredible human being, not to mention a brilliant artist. I want to thank you for being so giving and writing to us and answering our questions and just being there when you are obviously extremely busy. and if writing isn't already the most amazing gift for us, you film around the set! (I just loved the footage you took of the Larsons..so cute) So I raise my glass! you bet your ass toooo ANTHONY! (hehe sorry that was geeky..but i had to) Anyway, I've heard that filming is almost done, so congrats on that! and I hope wrapping goes well!

Anthony,
I remember first seeing the show in NY with a bunch of friends, not knowing anything about the show except that my friends were obsessively discussing it over and over. We sat in the orchestra, $20 seats (no better way) and "Over the Moon" had me, literally, on the floor laughing so hard I was crying. It didn't seem odd to me at the time, but now that I look back on it people in the audience probably thought I was nuts.
Anyway, I like what you said about this performance being eternal. I have to say, I was so happy when I heard you were going to be Mark in the movie. Every time I have seen the show (7 times, haha) I have seen it with a different actor playing Mark and each one has brought something all their own to the role. I'm so glad that your performance will be the one that lasts (not to knock the other guys, but your performance really defined Mark in a way).
Your passion and faith in this project eases my mind about the whole movie adaptation idea and I can't wait to see the finished project.
I'm really not sure what to say... Good luck to you and everyone else with the rest of filming!

you are such an inspiration! After being a RENT fan for about 5 years, it will be so nice to have the show preserved forever with most of its original cast! I wish you all the best and I can't wait to see the film!!!

I am so glad that ya'll are having a good time on the set! I cannot wait to see this movie. I absolutely love the obc recording....you guys are incredible! Oh, and I'll be sure to add dancing on a table to my list of things to do in life.....you're right, it does sound like fun! Well, have a great day!

Anthony, I love you. *snickers*
Thank you for giving me permission to dance on a table...uh, does that mean that I can use that as my excuse when they're trying to kick me and my friends out of the resturant? Can I? "But officer, Anthony Rapp gave me permission to dance on this table." I do not think it would work, but hey, worth a shot, right? No day but today after all. *winks and stops drinking coffee*
*coughs* On a serious note, I'm so happy about this movie and how happy you all are to be a part of it. When, (not if, when) I get to Broadway, I hope I'm lucky enough to be a part of something like this.
Love to the whole amazing cast,
Bethy

you took the words right out of my mouth when u talk about the message being forever......i could see the play a hundred times but to have the original cast to watch a thousand times mean so much more.

Anthony!
It's Sam Smith. What's up my brotha? Just wanted to say CONGRATS on the Rent movie, I've been reading your blogs and am so excited for you and the film. Hope all has been well for you since we last spoke. I've graduated NYU Cinema Studies (remember when you guys all told me I should come in the first place?) and have since been touring with my friend Syd, playing drums again. Now I'm in Nashville playing a lot... in a new band with Keith actually.
hope to see you again sometime soon...
love,
Sam

Anthony,
I have been reading your blogs and just love hearing what is happening on set. I decided to respond to this one because what you said is so true.
My fine arts teacher/choral director/good friend always talked about how the performing arts are ephemeral. No performance will be just like the last, things are constantly changing. And even if two people see the exact same show on the exact same night, they won't have the same reaction. That is the beauty and excitement of stage performances. Now, we know that some of that can be captured on film. And although it will be the same performance, each time I watch it, it will evoke different emotions.
I never got to see the OBC of RENT, although I hear you all the time! It always made me sad that I would never get to experience that. But with this movie, I will get as close a chance as I ever will. So it means so much to me that so many of the original members are in the show and that it is being captured on film for future generations to see, hear, and experience. Because like you said, one day it will be gone from the stage...but now RENT will live forever!
Posted by: Tiffany on 06/03/05 at 07:23 AM
Thanks so much for the updates. I'm so excited this site exists. There are so many of us who are just going crazy with anticipation of this movie!!! RENT is such a big part of my life and I feel very connected to the OBC in that respect.
I also saw you in Henry V in Boston a couple summers ago which was absolutely wonderful. Thanks for sharing yourself with us :)

Table dancing may be fun and all, but be careful. I've seen way too many segments on America's Funniest Home Videos to know what could potentially come of the table dancing. :P
Congrats to everyone involved in this film, I know the end result will be beautiful and something you all can truly be proud of. I can't wait to see it!

I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time and reading your blogs keeps that energy level up- what is it about RENT that does that to everyone?

I have never been so excited for a movie to come out! As my friend put it to me yesterday, this is our StarWars, the movie we would sleep on the street for a week to get tickets to. I'm excited that you all are keeping true to the original vision, down to almost the entire original cast. This show has touched my heart in a different way each time I've seen it, and I know that the movie will do the same. Good luck and thanks!

Hey Anthony!
I just stumbled upon this blog after seeing the trailer for the film.
It's really great to find out from you as well as Idina and Wilson and Julie about what's going on with the shooting. I really can't wait until the film hits theatres. <3

i cant wait for this movie. after going to the rent student workshop every year for who knows how long, though, its gonna be weird to see the performance and then not be able to stake out and wait for you guys at the stage door hehe (yeah i live in NYC).
Posted by: Theresa on 06/03/05 at 05:17 PM
I simply cannot wait for this film to come out.. I've had the pleasure of seeing RENT on stage twice, and I am absolutely in love with the beauty of the story being told and the meaning woven throughout all of it. I'm sure Jonathan would be honored and proud to see how far his dream has come, and how it continues to grow every day.
The film is not going to be anything like the stage productions.. the feel is totally different, as you said. That one moment can last forever on film. But maybe that could make the moment all the more thrilling.
It's good to hear that the cast is putting forth 100%, as no less should be accepted for a production such as this.
Looking forward to opening, and the best of luck to all of you.

Anthony,
I just wanted to let you know how I think it's so sweet of you to post updates for all of us RENT-obsessed people to see! =) I also wanted you to know that you truly are an inspiration for me. I am a 16 year old aspiring musical theatre actress and reading your posts concerning -- well, everything -- really give me faith!
Additionally, I absolutely LOVE your voice and think you are the best Mark Cohen out there! I've heard numerous, talented men portray Mark, but you are still my personal favorite. And even though I've never had the fortunate experience of seeing you perform, this makes this seemingly amazing movie even more exciting for me!
I wish you looooooooads of luck in this movie and in your career! God has honestly blessed you with a wonderful talent and thank you for sharing it with all of us!
Much <3

Hey Anthony,
I can't begin to tell you how RENT affected me 9 years ago when it opened. I have seen it 10 times (Twice with the OBC) and I know i will see it again. As an 40 year old HIV+ (for 17 years and still kicking) gay man I always hoped there would be a movie version to preserve it for all eternity and the idea of the great DVD extras makes me even happier. I NEVER would have expected that Hollywood could allow this movie to be made with most of the OBC in place. Daphne and Fredi will be missed but ROASRIO AND TRACIE see to have filled the bill nicely. Thank you all for giving me hope and faith and a piece of moving theater that always brings me to tears no matter how many times I have seen it. God the movie trailer even brought me to tears. It has been a long time coming from stage to screen but I know it will not disappoint me. I plan on being around on November 11th, 2005 god willing to share in this theatrical event. Maybe I can find a way to win tickets to the premiere which would just be an amazing expereince to meet you all after the joy all of you and especially Jonathan Larson have broought me these past years. The song that touches me the deepest (and turns me into a blubbering idiot every single time) is "Will I..." since that has always been my greatest fear; that this terrible disease will somehow strip me of my dignity. It can easily happen if you let the prejudice and hatred in this world not only of gay people and AIDS but ALL hatred and prejudice, rule your life. I am sorry for the long post but I just had to be a part of this community and take the opportunity to say thank you for doing what you do and for Chris Columbus making this important and moving film the way it needed to be made. I look forward to more news and clips and information about RENT: The Movie and most importantly I look forward to 11/11/05 and watcing it all unfold again in a brand new way.
All the best,
Don

You amaze me. You truly amaze me. From what I've read, every cast member throws their heart and most of their energy into shooting each day, and you've still found the time to write to sappy little die-hard fans like me. Thank you!
At first, when I heard that Rent was being transferred to film, I was terrified. There are so many ways to screw up musicals on the big screen...but now I'm really, really excited because I've read blogs on this website and a couple of other sources, and I've decided that I have faith in all of you as artists, and that's what matters in this show.
And before I sign off, I'm going to take advantage of being a teenage girl to gush over you: I love you as Mark and as Charlie Brown (what an adorable recording!), I love your solo album, and I really love your voice (it's so soothing! I listen to "Look Around" whenever I'm pissed off or angsty. Or happy!) Thank you for doing this!
Love,
Emmylou
P.S. I've ALWAYS wanted to dance on a table!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Emmylou on 06/04/05 at 08:46 AM
Wow! I had forgotten when The Clintons came to the show.. how rainy and cold it was... all the secret service and the huge tent that was in front of the theater... how the road was blocked off. How we all tried to "2nd act" the show... but I don't think many (if any) of us did.
How great to read your posts, in particular, because it brings back memories that I had forgotten. Of course I remember the last shows.. and the 3 day wait for the 1/25/97 show... but something like you mentioning The Clintons being there just thrust me back in time again!
I think, and I probably shouldn't generalize but I am going to, that the old Rentheads wanted to feel smug about the movie. We wanted it to fail and be terrible because then we could say, "HA! We were right.. the movie should not have been made." After seeing and crying through the trailer, however, there is a feeling of hope... that was unexpected. And surprisingly, this feeling feels really good.
My fiancé does not understand the buzz and the allure of this movie. Especially for me. (And he would probably shake his head in disbelief if he knew I was writing this comment.) He understands to an extent, but he can never fully understand because he wasn't there. Unless they were there, nobody can fully understand.
The best way I could describe it to him is that RENT touched our lives in such a way it is only natural for the Rentheads of yesteryear to be excited and happy and sad. This is *it* for Rent. It can do nothing else... it is like the last big drop on the most amazing roller coaster ride you've ever been on. Sure, you might not have enjoyed the entire ride.. parts may have scared the crap out of you... you might have hated parts... but that final drop.. the one last bit of excitement before you have to get off the ride for good? That is something to look forward to and to get ready to raise your hands and scream one last time.
So.. anyway... thanks.

Your comments are so vivid that it is great to see the show thru your eyes. Your energy and sensitivity is what makes your fans love you. Thank you for the wonderful post. I just read all of them over again and watched the trailer which a friend sent to me. I cried. It couldnt be any closer. Wow. Let me say how relieved I am. When I heard they were making a movie out of RENT!, I panicked. You will understand if you have seen the movie "Les Miserables" with Claire Danes. So many times, the tweak characters personalities or exclude musical numbers. I want you to know (however humble my opinion) that I completely approve of you all! I was afraid they would cast Drew Lachey as Mark, but yay for you!!!!

Anthony,
Being a music major from some little town called Joliet (dunno if you've heard of it... haha) this movie is already changing my life.
People don't seem to have much faith in musicals anymore, so for those of us who live day to day from them it's hard. As I'm sure you know. So thank you for being living proof that my dreams can come true.
And Joliet is extremely proud of you.

Hi Anthony,
Reading your updates is so great. It must be a wonderful feeling to know that 'Rent' will last on film. I admire you so much in all of your performances (from theater to film).
I have to admit, when first hearing about a movie of 'Rent" I feared it would destroy the musical. From hearing (or rather reading) what you have to say, I know this film will be brilliant. On November 11 I will being singing and dancing in the movies theater to everything from Tune Up to the Finale.
You are so great and reading your blogs makes me wish it was November. I wish everyone else would blog a bit more. Perhaps you can give Adam Pascal a reason to?
I have to say I did try dancing on a table and it was very encouraging and fun!

Hahaha, it IS fun dancing on a table! Its also fun to dance on a railing, Mimi-style. (My friends and I decided to try all this stuff out one time)
You said its inspiring to know that the movie is going to be preserved for all time, and I think its truly inspiring to all of us fans out there to hear that. Its inspiring to know you all are giving it your 100%.

Anthony,
Just writing in to say how awesome it is that you are doing this movie, and that most of the cast decided to go back...it just wouldnt be the same without the original cast, and i am sure it is going to move theater goers and non-alike. I've met you a few times during your run of Hedwig in Pittsburgh, and actually made it to the final call for adam's "gompers" for "shoe"..You are an inspiring performer, cant wait for november 11th..

I love all the original cast members and I'm dying to see newcomers Tracie and Rosario (especially "Out Tonight"). Hi Anthony,
I´m really counting the days till the movie arrives to the theatres in Spain. Rent was always and still it is in many ways, something that leads my life in many aspects. I was able to see you in London a few years ago together with Adam, Jessee and Wilson and I can asure you it is one the magical and most important days in my life. And, as you say, the possibility of having you all forever first on the screen and then on DVD is..., I don´t know which is the best adjetive. Choose the best you can. I´m only hoping that the film were the exact reflection of what the play is. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Anthony,
Thank you so much for keeping us posted with the film. I love reading about how it is coming along. I am a huge fan of yours, not only what you've done in RENT but also the Independent stuff you've done as well. I have seen RENT six times but never with the original cast. I am really looking forward to the film.

I cant thank you guys enough for making this movie, I mean seriously, Los Angeles is a long way away from Broadway, and it sure is hard convincing your parents to take you there during every school break. so until 11.11.05 this California girl will be CONSTANTLY checking up for updates. And since this will be a SUPER LONG summer, i mean waiting for the movie an all, i'm in the process of BEGGING my parents to take me and my friends to NY for my Sweet 16... we'll see if i can crack 'em.
And Anthony, dont be afraid to hang out at the Grove again... and many times after that.. and just in case, i'll have my camera, pen, and notepad with me (:
Love Always!

i've been going to plays all my life, and while i do understand the incredible nature of giving a performance that will only be done exactly like that once, and having the amazing chemistry with the audience, the "forever" nature of films is what draws me to them. films are a much more personal experience for me, because i will see so much more every time i watch it and i will be so different every time i watch it. i have a chance to notice and think about things, not just that the actors did, but what it means in terms of my life. how my life is different from the last time i saw the movie. how my outlook on people and relationships has changed or will change. i've found i do the same thing with my copy of the rent soundtrack - different things move me more at different times. not an incredibly original idea or anything, but as someone who's seen the musical version three times, i'm avidly looking forward to the film as something i will be able to see myself in more, not so much my role as an audience member. thanks to all of you for making it possible and something worth thinking about.
best wishes in everything

Dancing on a table?
Well, I’ve already done it. (in RENT)
Somewhere far, far away from where you are now.
Did I enjoy it? Man, I had the time of my life, so I know what you are talking about.
Whish we could see the film on 11th of Nov.
But it will probably take ages before it comes to where we are now.
Still, keep my fingers crossed for you guys and for the final outcome.

I totally agree with G as I did it with him. Well, I wasn't actually dancing on the table but I got to scream at Collins at least. RENT is beautiful, RENT is a miracle and even though I was never a big fan of musicals I could watch this one forever. What you wrote Anthony is great because it's truly wonderful to hear that after all these years and so many shows you still have so much energy and so much love for RENT as is probably the case with the other cast members. Man, I wanna see it like right now!!
Oh, and if u ever write back, could u tell me how the newcomers Rosario and Tracie are doing? Do they feel some extra stress?
Wish you and every single cast member all the best (not only with RENT)!!

Hugs & kisses to all of my old Rent "kids"!
This is your, long ago, B'way Dresser Mary. I'm so glad this is happening, and I'm certain it will do justice to Jonathan's vision. Even though I watched you all do the show hundereds of times (from side stage) I can't wait to see it on the big screen. Belated congrats to Taye & Idina! I just got married on 5/28!
Love to you all & best wishes!

Anthony....you always inspire me. It's interesting to hear how you remember different performances and days of shooting. I remember the first broadwat show I saw...IT was RENT. I waited after the show to meet the cast. A few ran off really quick and didnt stay. One did, it was you. I was blown away that you stayed until every last person had their picute or autograph. I made a promise to myself. If I ever reach Broadway. I will be like you. I will take the time to meet and greet my fans. I was totally blown away by you. Thank you for being an insiration

Anthony...I'm crying! I just watched the trailer and it is remarkable, euphoric, touching, and mezmorizing. I'm a humongeous RENT fan due to my sister. I bought the RENT book and I just want to say that you have touched us all in a way Jonathan Larson never could've dreamed of. God Bless You and the Cast and Crew. Jonathan's gift to man...

Posted by: Brian on 06/07/05 at 07:38 PM
I am SOOOO excited that this is going to be done as a movie. There is nothing in the world that can cheer me up like blaring Rent music around the house and to think that I will be able to watch it again and again and again in Maine is beyond words.
Jonathan's story is universal. The importance of friendship, the treatment of people and the value of time are three things that need to be spread to others and this movie will help reach new audiences and allow more people to fall in love with this wonderful show.

Thank you so much for keeping us informed. And dancing on tables? Funny, but when I first bought the recording I would get up on my kitchen table and dance to La Vie Boheme (A&B). It's a blast.

Wow! I wanted to ask you a question, how did you feel when they said that they wanted t make a movie out of RENT? Had you been keeping in touch with everyone before the movie? I think that we a re more nervouse than you are when the moive comes out! LOL! I just want to say that you are incredible and i know the RENT will be the best musical turned movie yet!!!

I think it's so amazing that almost everyone is back to reprise their roles in RENT. I cannot wait to see the movie--the trailer alone gave me chills. I can't believe that it's been 9 years since RENT opened on Broadway and about 9 years as well since I became a rabid fan. One of the most amazing days I can remember growing up was coming home from high school to find that an e-mail I had sent to you (I don't even remember how I got your address!) had been answered, and you kindly let me interview you for a project I was doing on Broadway and musical theater. It's wonderful to see that despite your success you are still gracious. :)

Hey Mr. Rapp, I love your voice and I am so excited to see this movie in which you sing. Yay! Any news on songs being cut? I hope not.

Amazing.
I just watched the trailer and it's so amazing. I wanted to post under a person instead of the random entry. Anthony I cannot belive that this movie is happening. It's just too much. I was in high school when Rent opened in NY-where I live-and just fell in love with it. I've seen it a ridiculous amount of times, from the original cast to many others. I've gotten so familiar with cast members names and faces that I've recognized them in many other shows on broadway.
Im so glad that so many memeber of the OBC are here to be a part of this movie. It really means a lot. I know i still compare whoever I see to you or Adam or any other former cast member. You all played the roles so well that the lines between the characters and yourselfs seem to blur...I'll stop gushing and just end with a sincere thank you.

Anthony,
Roger Lee would like you to know that you will forever be his favorite Chutes and Ladders partner. Uncle Bill sent us the trailer and Roger has watched it about 100 times today. He likes everything, except for one scene where he thinks you are kissing. He doesn't like the kissing parts.
Just wanted to know one of your youngest fans was really proud of you!

Anthony, Thank you so much for keeping us posted on the goings-on at the set. I have so much admiration for you and all the cast members who are putting so much passion into their roles.
I just watched the trailer online and was completely blown away! My eyes were filled with tears while I watched it the first time!
I still get chills up my spine everytime I see "RENT" fade in at the end, and also when the first note of "Seasons of Love" sounds with the Paramount Trademark light. I was sceptical, I have to admit, about the new Joanne since I loved the original one so much; but, my God, Tracy sounded INCREDIBLE during her solo! Particularly that last, high note! Wow.
I was also curious about how Rosario Dawson would be as Mimi, and she really did look perfect for the role.
Every shot in the trailer was so expertly placed to fit the song and the kind of slow, touching theme that seemed to seep through it! Judging from the trailer, I really do think that the director of photography, Stephen Goldblatt, is a genius! Every shot and lighting was just perfect.
I really like the song they chose for the trailer (Seasons of Love)because it completely showcased the drama in the acting and cinematography. The entire cast sounded wonderful! You can really hear the dvelopment and growth in their voices (Particularly Idina's- I thought).
Before seeing the trailer, I was excited about the movie, but I couldn't really picture it on screen other than just the way it is on stage in front of a camera. But it transcended to the screen so beautifully! For nearly every shot I could tell which song it came from, and it was really just moving to see because the emotional core of those scenes became even stronger just in the one-second shots that they showed. I loved the bit where you see Adam lighting Rosario's candle- it's so sweet! And then when you see him shouting at her as she leaves the apartment (I'm assuming that was during "Another Day"), and then later when he opens the door and sees her and there's just this incredible look in his eyes(I'm pretty sure during "Goodybye Love"). Wow. Less than a second of those scenes is enough to bring me to tears- the acting is that powerful!
If a trailer can make me feel this passionate about the movie than I can't wait to see what the entire film will do!
All of my doubts about the movie keeping all of its emotional depth and beauty were completely dashed when I saw the trailer. If anything, I think that the movie will make the show even more moving!
I feel like there's so much more to say about this trailer because it's moved me so profoundly, but I can't think of the words.
Thanks again for being such an inspiration!

I actually got to see a preview of "La Vie Boheme A" on "Access Hollywood" ... my mom was so excited she taped the segment for me. I just want to say that I am so happy that most of the original cast is back and making the "RENT" film a reality. Although I never saw the original cast, I love listening to the original Broadway cast recording. I have seen the show six times and always compare it to you guys. I can't wait to see the completed film. I saw the trailer Sunday, June 5th and was blown away. I gasped when I heard the first two notes of "Seasons of Love" and the guy in the row in front of me turned around to look at me like I was nuts, but I didn't care. I was so happy!!! Keep doing what you do, Anthony! Love you!!!

I have to admit, when I heard they were making Rent into a film, I thought there was no way they could capture the intensity that I have experienced every time I've gone to see the show. Add on to the fact that the director was trying to round up all the incredible and original cast members, and I thought the movie would never be made. But when I happened to be flipping through the channels on my television, and I heard the first notes of "Seasons of Love," I couldn't believe it. In just that minute of preview, my heart raced like it did the first time I saw Rent on stage. I know now that this is going to be an amazing film.
Good luck Anthony! I cannot wait to see everyone go from the stage to the big screen in November!

I am MORE than excited for the film!!!!!
I would sell my soul for a chance to meet you and the rest of the cast! You seem like an AMAZING group of people (a family) and I have had dreams of meeting everyone (not to mention being in the show...hehehe...) since I was 6 years old. Just...thank you. For being so inspiring!
I saw the trailor and I FLIPPED OUT. I am planning to see the movie at LEAST 3 and a half billion times, but probably more.
Good luck, keep it up, and have fun!

I will always remember joking with you at lunch that day. You are an great person and very talented. Congratualtions again.

Hello Anthony! I know your a busy person, but I would just like to say that I'm a huge fan of you as Mark. My friend exposed me to RENT a few months ago by letting me borrow her Original Broadway Cast CD, and I've been hooked ever since. I wanted to let you know that I love your music (especially your solo CD) and I'm glad that you're having as much fun filming as all of your dedicated fans are going to have watching the movie again, and again, and again, and again!
I've danced on the table while listening to La Vie Boheme, which has been my favorite song from the beginning, the very first time I heard it. I've seen the trailer, which is brilliant, and I can not wait until the movie comes out.

Anthony-
I am so glad to see that the movie of this amazing show is being done right. I can't think of another B-way show that has retained as much of it's original cast for the big-screen adaption. Your post has filled me with such happiness, imagining watching the finished film. There seems to be such love and thought going into capturing it faithfully, while creating an absolutely new experience for those who may have never seen a production or even heard the OBC recording. I, for one, am looking forward to de-virginizing a few friends who know nothing about the show by bringing them to opening day with me as an early Christmas/Hanukah/solstice/kwaanza gift.
I am sending good love vibes to you, Chris Columbus and the entire cast and crew of "Rent", and want you all to know how much your performances and Jonathan's words and music continue to inspire and inlighten so many.
I have also had a wicked mad crush on you since "Adventures in Babysitting".
Peace and also love, Jon

Hey Anthony! Glad to hear the the filming is coming along so well! I just watched the trailer for the first time and just from that I can tell the movie is going to be awesome! Too bad we have to wait until November to see it...but that's okay, it's well worth the wait! It'll just make it that much more exciting...even though I've been waiting since December. hehe Break a leg filming the rest!!!

I was fortunate enough to get to see Anthony perform the very first production of RENT. And I'm so pleased to see that Anthony is in the film version. Anthony, if you're reading this, I know your mom would be so proud.

I just posted a comment here but not sure it went through (perhaps the comments are moderated). In any case, I just wanted to wish everyone well with the film version of this wonderful play. I will always remember seeing the very first production live. It was very special (and so is Anthony!) :-)

Anthony, I have been listening to you for the longest time! I love You're A Good Man Charlie Brown ( and actually just played Lucy in a recent local production) but, I was playing the cd for my friend, and she flipped out that you were in Charlie Brown, because she had been listening to Rent. That is how I was introduced to Rent, and I can't stop listening to it! I listen to it on the bus to and from school, and now I don't know when I am going to get my Rent fix anymore, now that summers here! But don't you worry, I will definitely keep up with it! I can't wait to see this movie!!!!!

As I said in my post to Wilson, I don't really know what to say. I admire you so much for what you brought to the theatre, and especially your ability to transform from previously unheard of in the mainstream into the idol that you are today. It proved to me that I can do that; I can, if i put my mind to it and have passion (not to mention a great deal of luck), I can make it.
Just wanted to let you know that you have exerted an amazing amount of positive influence on me, and I thank you for it.
Oh, and also, you filmed part School Ties at my school! That's right, I go to Worcester Academy, and you filmed the dance sequence there, in the gym. I have to admit, i don't spend much time in the gym, but knowing that you were there and have then made it big has made me realize that I, having been there, can also make it in the theatre!
well, who knows.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I don't really expect a response, i mean i know you're busy, so i'll just assume you read this.
so much love and respect,

I said this on BWW, Anthony, and I will have to say it again. You are amazing! I've grown to appreciate, and at the risk of sounding stalkerish, love you more since I started following this project.
I'd try to talk to you like you're my friend, but you're incredibly talented, and I get kinda shy around that.
Anywho, I'm really grateful that you're sharing your time with us. And I'm exstatic that you are making up a part of this. November is SOOOOOO far away!
I'm looking forward to seeing you on TV. I'm fly like that...
Thanks for being fabulous, Anthony. And for staying you.

Hi Anthony,
Go to the "Rent Movie" message board at compulsivebowlers.org and check out the post - "The Ultimate Rent DVD!!" It's a wish list of extra features to be included on the "Rent" DVD. It was fun to put together:) There you'll find a description of all the suggested special features including one devoted entirely to you "documenting real life" on/off the set! Hope my wish comes true! Counting down to 11/11/05.

I just wanted to tell you how inspirational i think you are. As chessy and hopeless as that may sound I don't really care. I used to make my mom rent "Adventures in Babysitting" all the time because I told her I liked the red headed boy. So from then to Rent, to Charlie Brown, to a Beautiful Mind, to Road Trip, and the many others you have continued to inspire me. So all I can say is thank you, and can't wait to see in this nevxt great endevour.

Ahh, and now to beloved Anthony Rapp's comment page. I've posted on several of the other blogs of the actors, but you're my favorite on the OBC and the best character in RENT. (P.S. though this is not the time, I love your work in YaGmCB :)) I'm pleased to hear that everything is going well, and might I say, thanks for keeping in touch with the fans over the year through blogs and broadwayworld. A lot of us (including me) are aspring Broadway actors or actresses and really appreciate feeling like we have some connection to our fantasy (yes, I did read Making it on Broadway, but it still seems like it would be a dream come true. at least for the first couple of weeks, lol). I finally had the opportunity to see RENT staged after a year of wearing out the CD last September and have never been more in love with a show on the first few numbers. My friend Stacie and I wished we could rewind it, but now that you're bringing RENT to the big screen and my portable DVD player, that's possible. Thanks for giving us starving (well, I'm 17 and a community theater vetran leaving no time for a job, so sorta) actors a broadway outlet.
Posted by: Violet on 06/22/05 at 07:30 PM
I am thrilled to read your blog - as by and far you are one of the most talented broadway actors of today.
I admit, i only recently (the last 3 years) have gotten back into broadway ... i had thought i left my acting past behind me when i left high school. But when my friend came back from New York with a brand new CD of a certain green-skinned show i was pushed into overdrive.
My ex-boyfriend was a cult-obsessed RENT fan and he really got me into loving the dialogue, writing, singing and the depth of acting displayed in the original casting. My favorite two performers and characters remain you (Anthony)/Mark and Idina/Maureen because of the connection and emotional pannoplay you give the audience 'on the 3-d imax of my mind'. Your skills are appreciated by many fans and especially by this one.
I bought Charlie Brown because of the cast-listing of a certain RENT man. And to be honest, *blush, i have had a huge crush on you for the last few years. Okay, enough rambling, haha - G'luck and i plan to see the movie about a gazillion times.

Hey Anthony!
First of all, thank you so much for posting so often. It is really cool to be updated on the whole filmmaking process. Secondly, I just wanted to say that although it has only been about 6 months since I became a 'RENT' fan, the story of 'RENT' and the history of 'RENT' have truly touched me. Even before I actually saw it on Broadway, I fell in love with the soundtrack, and with it, the original cast. I have gone on to see 'RENT' 6 times since my first time in January, and felt the magic that you guys (the original cast) and Jonathan created. Now, I am even more excited for this movie, because now I get to see the people who brought Jonathan's vision to the stage and to the screen! Good luck with everything, and see you on the big screen soon!

I have the OBC Cast Album, and how funny it'll be to finally see what all you guys look like! I'm sure it'll be great.

Anthony,
Oh my gosh, I'm posting this so late and I know you have no time to read it BUT-I just have to!
Mr. Rapp, you have touched me so much as a performer and as a person. Your voice, which is technically beautiful and adorable and just totally awwww-inducing, is also so open and so honest and so TRUE! When I listen to you, it feels like I know you-it's amazing! Your part of the Finale B- "There is no future..." never fails to make me cry.
I also think the fact that you took some of your incredibly busy life and answered questions for us on the BroadwayWorld messageboard was AMAZING. It was so nice, and nothing forced you to do that. You just did it out of pure kindness to the fans. You are so special and I adore you-"so very much more than just some guy" :-)
Love always,
Beth

I saw a preview for the movie at the theatre yesterday and I am so excited. My mother and I accidentally happened upon you and the cast filming at Filoli House and Gardens at the end of May (you probably won't remember but the head electrician and you and Adam Pascal turn around and wave at someone- that was me). I am a really big fan of yours (RENT, Charlie Brown, even Magoo in School Ties). Just wanted to say, looking forward to the movie coming out. If I find a way to send you my brochure from Filoli, would you be willing to sign it? Best of luck with the movie!!

Since the day I saw my first production of Rent in London, during it's Previews, I have been waiting for the day to beable to see You(Anthony), Adam, Jesse and Wilson again and to throw Idina and Taye in that mix as well, well let's just say I couldnt be more ecstatic. I was visiting my family this past weekend and I was in the bathroom when I heard "Seasons Of Love" playing. I thought to myself "Why am I hearing Rent" and then I realized I had on TV a show that previews all the upcoming movies and needless to say I ran out of the bathroom as fast as humanly possible. The trailer alone is amazing and I stood in my living room jumping up and down like a 7 year old on Christmas Morning. My Dad thought I was nuts but I didnt care. November 11th will NOT come fast enough. Congratulations on this film, It's definitely something all us oldtime RENTheads have been looking forward to for a long time, and it will finally allow the rest of the world, that doesnt have access to the theatre, to experience what we've known for the past 9 years. Congratulations Anthony!!!!!!!!!

And I agree with what Chris said about you being the soul of the group. You are so loyal to the fans and dedicated to making this film the best it can be-thank you!
love Chelsea

So I was having Debbie Downer day. And then I read your post, and things looked a little brighter. At which point I popped in the "Rent" soundtrack. And THEN, I decided to try dancing on the dining room table, which was fabulous.
I saw Rent for the first time in NYC about a year ago, and after just the opening number, it bumped Phantom of the Opera out of its long-held #1 spot in my heart. I can't wait until the movie opens. Congrats on being done with filming!

Anthony
This is so bizarre! I mean, I had a dream no more than like a week before I heard the news that they would be making my all-time favorite musical into a movie that I met you and Adam at the premier. Wishful thinking I guess, haha, but I'm thrilled. I have watched the preview, in total, about 350 times, no exaggeration. I just want to see more with different songs with more focusing on certain characters, yourself included. I first saw the musical when I was 12 or 13 and again when I was 14, and I got the soundtrack the Christmas before I saw it in February (February 7th, 2004 at 2PM to be exact) and I knew all the words to all 43 tracks (or most of the script depending on how you look at it) by the new year. I have always loved your voice, it truly is one of the best, to the point where I can sing along loud to every song, but when you sing or have a solo, I just get quiet to here your voice. It's truly amazing, I can't wait to hear it on screen...and over and over again when I buy the DVD haha. This cast and show has just inspired me beyond belief. I can't even begin to express my gratitude, and it's wrong that I can't express it to Jonathan Larson. I mean, I am the only to-be Junior in my high school who knows what her senior project is going to be. I just want to thank you for being so dedicated and just doing this project at all. It wouldn't be the same without you, Adam, and Idina in particular.
Can't wait to see it!!! I'm so excited, I'm going to watch the trailer again. And congrats for making it through filming!

I really have to say, Anthony, YOU ROCK!!!! I keep hoping you and Adam and all the cast will jump out from somewhere and start talking to me so I can talk to the people who preformed the stuff I now live my life by. NO DAY BUT TODAY....I will never forget those words. I know that you don't just find Mark a character, its all so much more then that. And you all do it so well!!!! And by the way...someone I know said you think you guys sound bad on the OBC!!! You guys could never EVER sound bad...Jonathan Larson would be really proud of all you guys, even more then your fans...and I know TONS of people who love the original...You guys sound great...Love you guys...not in a weird way either...

I actually had the thrill of playing poker with Anthony at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas 2 years back. I am a huge supporter of the show and was excited to meet him.
I told Anthony at the time not to let them put any famous movie stars in the movie. He shrugged and laughed as if to say, "I've got no control over that". 2 years later I will be seeing Anthony and the rest of the original cast on the big screen. Thank you Anthony for listening.

PS Thanks for taking my money at the table too.

Hi! I love you Anthony! Your voice is so great and you're my idol! I can't wait to see the movie. I'm from Quebec city Canada and I hope that the voice that will double you in french will be as good as your voice.
Love you

Everything sounds great but i had one question. I know that some songs have to be left out, and that makes sence but ive heard rumors that One Song Glory and What You Own are going to be left out.. is that true?

Hey, I'm a big time fan and I'm so glad that you and everyone else have been posting so that we can know what's going on. I did have a few questions though.
1. What was your first thought about the movie before you started making it? I know that at first it didnt seem really close to the play, but now its extremely true to how Jonathan probably would have wanted it. Do you think that many of the major RENTheads will be happy with the outcome?
2. What was it like to reunite with all of your old friends/cast members to make this movie? I know you probably kept in touch with them after the show, but did it still feel any different? And how did Tracie and Rosario first get along with all you guys since you were probably so close?
3. What was it like to be working on RENT again? It was a while ago that you left the show but did you just jump back into everything? Did it feel surreal at first?
Thats it. It would be great if you could answer them, but if not then it's fine. :)

I was just wondering...for many years now you've been (on and off, of course) performing or in rehearsal for RENT, and now that the shooting is over it really would seem like this is the end. Do you feel like you are ready to say goodbye to your role as Mark, or do you feel horrible about it ending?

Hey Anthony!
Congrats on wrapping! I saw that you'll be answering questions, and although I'm sure that post has already been completed..if you answer anymore questions, well I've got some!
-What was it like to reunite with the cast? had everyone changed much? did you all get along just as well?
-What was your favorite scene to film? why?
-What is your favorite song from RENT and why?(i know thats a hard question..I can't answer it without giving a long list haha)
-What gave you the idea to have your life imitate art by filming all the segments for the fans..did you enjoy doing that? (by the way thanks so much for filming clips for us!)
-Were you able to jump right back in to the role of Mark like you had never left or was it a bit more difficult? What was it like to come back to this character, did you approach some things differently now that your almost 10 years older?
-Would you ever consider coming back to the stage to play Mark again? (OH PLEASE I WOULD LOVE IT IF YOU WOULD hm hm sorry)
Well, if you see these and respond thank you, thank you, thank you! You are an incredible, talented, and sweet person. I wish you all the best
love,
Chelsea
ps. Now that filming is over...would you be allowed to come and talk on bww again? If not, you should come and just browse the site..the Anthony thread is still alive!

Hi Mr. Rapp...or Anthony...or whatever you'd like to be called! I know you said you'd be answering questions, and I'm so sorry to be badgering you, but I have some!
QUESTIONS:
How alike are you and Mark Cohen? How alike are Mark and Jonathan?
Is it true that the 'tune ups' and 'Christmas Bells' are cut? Are any other songs cut?
Have you heard the new album yet? If so, are you happier with the production than the OBC album?
Do you think your portrayal of Mark has grown or changed in the past 10 years?
And, just randomly, what is your favorite song in Rent to sing?
Thank you SO MUCH, Mr. Rapp. Thank you for being an honest person who is always true to yourself. Thank you for being an honest singer and performer that touches our hearts. You are such an inspiration to me, Anthony! Keep doing what you're doing, we love you!
All my love,
B.

Ever since my sister brought home the "Rent" cd for my family to listen to 5 years ago, she and I have fallen in love with the music and talent you all posses. I was somewhat drawn to your character Mark, because he is hidden behind his camera and longs to come out into the world, but stays in a community of his own. I am estatic to see this movie and will stand in line to see it the minute it comes out.
While watching the previews of another movie the other day, my sister and I were barely paying attention. All of a sudden we heard the beginning of Seasons Of Love, and chills went down our spines. We took a loud gasp and started to freak out. Goosebumps were everywhere on me! I almost started crying after it finished, When the movie we went to see was over, all we could talk about was the previews. The whole movie Seasons Of Love was running through my mind and La Vie Boheme was playing over and over in my head. I am so thrilled that this is finally becoming a movie! It's a miracle for those of us who have not had the opportunity to see the show onstage and have always wanted to. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity!
I will always be a devoted musical fan with "Rent" as one of my favorites.
Sincerely,
Rachel Marie
