Hi Jesse,
I am so excited that this movie is being made. Unfortunately I was not living in New York during the time that you were doing the play. I had the fortune of meeting you on the streets of New York, and told you then how much I love your voice and could not wait to hear you sing again. I'm so glad that all of your fans and supporters will finally get the chance to hear it and having performed on the big screen is a bonus.
Looking forward in anticipation of the movie and best wishes for a continued flourishing career.
BTW, if you have time please stop by my website, which is a tribute to you, your talents and your professional career (alljesselmartin.net).
Peace, love and respect.

Jesse! Wow, I think I may be the first comment (or close to it, as I take a while to get my ramblings out). Let me tell you, I was really glad to hear that they were able to secure you, along with a majority of the OBC. Love your singing voice and the attitude you present. Slick. Mad props to you and the others for following through on this. A piece of RENT that can be brought home and seen again and again. If the Broadway presentation had such an impact on me, I can only imagine what the film will. As a film-maker on the rise, it burns me I can't get out to San Fran to try to help out; I found out you all weren't filming in NY and was really disappointed. The curse of living in New Jersey. Ah well, it sounds like SF will make a great double for the Big Apple.
Kudos on the project!

Hi Jesse.
Can't wait for the movie to come out! I've been so excited about it since I heard about it in the fall.
I'm from Denmark in Europe and I've been in Rent myself last year at my drama school, so the story's very special to me and brings back a lotta memories. :)
Can't wait!!
Oh and yeah... Collins is the coolest part to be singing! (wish I was a boy so I could've done it ;D)

Thanks for ur presents!
I had a chance to work w/u guys as an extra on the riot set and I must say I had a really good x. I never saw the play :>(, but can't wait until the movie.
I told all my friends that I had the pleasure of meeting u and of course, they had a million questions. One thing I can say about u is, that u r a real kool brotha who likes 2 party, pretty much humble from what i witness. Keep u the good work and and hopefully we will meet again.
Peace

Hello from Spain, Jesse!
It may sound strange, but there is a small community of Rentheads here who are looking forward to the movie with great excitement.
It was really delightful to hear your wonderful voice in the teaser trailer, and I'm glad all the cast and crew is having a good time (surely it will be reflected in the movie).
Thank you for posting. Love,

We don't need to wait to see the film, we'll holla back now. You were amazing in your rendition of "Razzle Dazzle" during the big T's (Tonys). I watch you every day on Law & Order, and I'm hella glad (we seem to be using 'hella' and 'holla' alot) that the producers let you shoot RENT. You are by far the best Collins, and I cannot wait to be drenching in tears during the reprise of "I'll Cover You".. after you're done in LA, are you guys coming back to NY? (please say yes!) I love you all.
Much love,
Rach

I can't wait to see "Rent!" It sounds as if it was certainly a "happy" set-isn't it great to work in a friendly atmosphere! I'm from near Buffalo, NY, and am looking forward to going to your old stomping grounds this summer, "Shakepeare in Delaware Park." This year, Saul Elkin and the gang are doing Hamlet, and Romeo and Juliet-Saul's daughter Rebecca will play Juliet. I bet you are proud of that program-I really hope you could find the time this summer to visit it, as it is, I think, their 30th anniversary! Any chance you could make a visit home, to congratulate the cast and crew on so many years of fantastic entertainment?
Just a note before I go...I saw Sam Waterston in "Travesties," in New HAven, and was kinda hoping you could make a sneak visit-and I'd get pictures and autographs of my two favorite guys! Anyway, Sam gave a really fantastic performance-you and he REALLY got to get the writers on L&O to lighten up, as you're both very funny guys.
Again, I can't WAIT to see "Rent!"

Your voice and talents are so amazing. I got chills watching you the day I visited the set and again when you sang the solo for "Seasons of Love" on the trailer. It is so good to hear that the entire cast and crew has morphed into one big, happy family. I'm sure that the energy present from each day on the set will transfer into the final product. I know that I'll be first in line on the day it opens to see it!
Keep up the amazing work. From what I've seen of the movie, it couldn't get any better. You are all doing a phenomenal job.
Holla!

Jesse, you are absolutely, unequivocally WONDERFUL!
Jesse, you are my most favorite mentor!
Jesse, with every accomplishment, you reinvent yourself!
Jesse, continue to redefine your progressive success!
In other words...YOU GO BOY! BOOOOO YAHHHHHH!!!!
With all the love in my Southern heart and love from other peoples' hearts that really weren't using it anyway so I took it for myself to give to you.

Hey Jesse,
I'm thrilled with everything that I have heard about the movie. I too am counting down the days until it opens and I watch the trailer at least twice a day. I missed seeing you on Broadway so I am glad you were able to be in the movie (although I missed you terribly on Law and Order!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Yes I am a huge Law & Order fan some who know me well might call me slightly obsessed (but in a good way). I am a nurse working in AIDS research so this movie is important to me because the more people who see the movie may get involved in finding a cure!!
Will you be in Philly doing any promoting of the movie???
Keep up the great work!!!
Love,
Tori

Jesse,
How ya doing? I watch you on Law and Order and you do an excellent job. I am writing because I am concerned about my friend and her unhealthy fascination with you. I thought you were her boyfriend when I went to her apartment. She has a picture of you in a frame on her mantel with the rest of her family. It just isn't right! She swears there is no other man on this earth greater than you. It is sooooo scary!
Please cut back on the charisma and sex appeal. Do it for my friend. Well, forget her...do it for me. She is driving me crazy!
Here's to one day you'll be bald and fat and she can move on!
Sincerely,
Concerned Friend

Jesse,
Thanks for posting. I have watched the RENT trailer on AOL about 100 times. (~.~) I am so excited about the movie and I am glad that filming is going well. I have played the RENT CD so much in my classroom that any student I have taught since 1999 knows all of the songs! The graduating class sang Seasons of Love as a tribute when I was voted Teacher of the Year. So, to say I'm elated about the movie would definitely be an understatement. Please continue to grace us with your wonderful acting and singing talent.

Thank you for updating! I'm so excited for the movie, and very glad that you're in it. I've been a fan of yours since I started watching Law & Order, and I got a big (read: GOOD) surprise when I saw that you were in Rent, even though I was too young to see the OBC. Thanks again for updating!

Hi Jesse!
I didn't have the good fortune of seeing "Rent" on Broadway, but I'm glad it's coming to the big screen.
I think you are a fine example of what an actor should be and a damn great example of what a man should be. YOUR MAMA RAISED YOU RIGHT, SUGAH!
Can't wait to see you in "Rent" and back on "Law & Order."
All the best to you and yours! God Bless!

You made me cry last Sunday when you honored Jerry Orbach with "Razzle Dazzle" at the Tony's. You made me cry HARDER on Monday when I saw the broadway.com photos from that night and there you were with Mrs. Orbach. You truly are a class act. Now get back on the beat, Detective Green!!

keep up the great work and ENJOY!

The really weird thing is that even though I loved you in the original "Rent" on broadway, and I fell in love with you on "Law and Order", I didn't know you were the same person until like a month ago... I'm not to quick on some things!
But know that I know you are in both "Rent" and "Law and Order", I love you even more.

Jesse,
I can not wait for the movie to come out. I didn't get to see the play "Rent" because I do not live in NY, so I will definitely support the movie. You never cease to demonstrate to the world how multi-talented and gifted you are. I miss you on L & O but I know you'll be back in the fall. When the cast promotes the movie, please make sure you come to Texas, especially you (smile) (Dallas, Houston or San Antonio). We have much love for you here too!!! Keep up the good work, keep looking super FINE and many congratulations!!!

Jesse,
It's good to hear that you guys are almost done and that the energy is still there. All of the film's cast seemed to have a multi-tiered experience during the filming: it being spiritual, energizing, and reminiscient. I'm so happy for you all that you will be a part of Rent for new fans, young and old, especially for those who will be seeing it for the first time on the big screen. This will truly be a great film.
Best of luck to you and the rest of the cast and crew in completing shooting.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

Jesse L. Martin, what an honour.
I've just watched the trailer for what MUST be the 753rd time. I seriously can not wait for this movie. As I've said time and time again, Rent is my favourite musical but I have never seen it on the stage. This movie is truly a dream come true. Let me tell you, when you started singing in the trailer, I was blown away. You have just a deep voice and it's just so soothing. I am sooooo excited about the fact that it's most of the OBC in the movie. I can't even begin to imagine how great and wonderful this movie will be but I am sure without a doubt that it will blow me away. The cast has be just so wonderful with the updates here on the blogs. I don't know what I'd do without them. You guys have been such an inspiration. All th best, all my adimiration, and all my thanks.

YAY! The movie is sounding better all the time. I'm so glad you're all having so much fun making this movie, and I promise to not start singing "I'll Cover You" at the TV every time I watch Law & Order...much. I'm really happy about RENT becoming a film, too long in coming. And may I just say one thing:
The funeral...the drumsticks...I will be crying like a baby and gah...SO SAD!!!

Hey Jesse *waves*
LOVE you on Law and Order. Listening to the RENT OBCR and then watching the repeats of L&O on TNT every day makes my life. I hope you continue to grace the show with your presence for a couple more seasons. The best was with you and Jerry Orbach. We miss him terribly.
Everytime I hear I'll Cover You: Reprise with you singing...tears many a time are streaming down my face (That's a good thing since I don't cry often)
Can't wait to see you in the film version of RENT and I just love the fact that all of you are in it. Has it really been like a family reunion/ summer camp/ retreat/ vacation/ prom/ bender?
Sounds like one magical rollercoaster ride
I love you guys and can't wait
Hope you post again
Send my love to the cast :)

Hey man. I love you in Law and Order, and i'm sure i'll love you to death in this. Rent has always been one of my favourite broadways, and i'm so excited that people have FINALLY decided to make it into a movie. I'll be right there, opening day with my popcorn. I cannot wait to see you in this film. You steal the show in Law and Order, and i'm absolutely positive you'll do the same in Rent. I cannot wait.

Hello! I'm so glad that you posted. This is a totally fan girl moment, but before I saw you on L&O, I didn't really think anyone famous was in the oBC. I know they have merit, but...anywho...So I was watching L&O and totally loving you and Jerry, and then someone says...that guys sings. Totally fell in love with you that day.
Stalker moment being finished, that you SOOOO much for taking time to share with us. It's so great how you all are making us part of the process.

Jesse ...
Great to read a post from you. I'm counting down the days to November 11th.
Can't believe I'll finally get to see and hear the original Collins and Angel duet on "I'll Cover You." That song captures the true joy of being in a committed, loving relationship. When they finally legalize same-sex marriage throughout the U.S., that's the song I'm dedicating to my partner.
Peace, love, and best wishes for a blockbuster movie. Perhaps we'll have some Oscars to add to Rent's Tony haul come February.

Hey Jesse,
I know it's been said a lot before, but you're great on Law and Order and absolutely wonderful in the OBCR of Rent. I'm so glad you'll be reprising your role on the big screen!
Joey
p.s. Great job at the Tonys!

First off, thank you so much for posting, I really appreciate it. I would also like to say that your performance at the Tony's was absolutely fabulous. My friend's and I loved it. I am also glad that you, and the rest of the cast, love Chris Colombus. It is good news to everybody out there who loves Rent!
Thanks again,

OK, so I am probably the zillionth person to say this, but... I am so glad Rent is coming out true to form! I watched the show in December 2002 at a turning point in my life. Never had I found a show whose message translated so well to so many aspects of my life. The soundtrack inspired me and has become a mantra in my life. I am so proud that the studio has committed to a true "Rent" experience, with OBCs and other great new talents. Can't wait to see it!! For now, I will play the soundtrack ad nauseam and watch and watch the trailer. Thanks!!

Jesse,
I can't wait for RENT the movie to come out. I think it's just an awesome tribute to Jonathon Larson (and his family) that some many of the original Broadway cast has come back for the movie. I'm just counting the days until November!!!
You're awesome!!!!

Mr. Martin,
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to post here! I am absolutely thrilled beyond anything ever that the Rent movie is coming out. My Dad, Mr. Republican Conservative District Attorney, has agreed to take me to see it. I know that, in his heart, seeing the love between Angel and Collins will touch him, no matter what front he puts up. I know it will.
You are so stunningly talented and I adore you! Good luck, I'm sure the movie will be a massive success!!
Posted by: Beth on 06/16/05 at 11:19 AM
I have never seen the play but my aunt plays the soundtrack religiously. I am only going to see the movie because of you Mr. Jesse L. Martin. I only missed the play because I lived Michigan, now that I am in New York I will see the play even though you are not in it. But it ok I still have L&O. Well Maybe I will see you on the mean NY streets. Who knows. Good work. Good luck and God bless.

Oh... You have no idea how excited I am about the movie! I live in Australia, and seeing as Rent has only come out in my city once (where I saw it three times; as many as my budget would allow) I cannot wait to see it again! Your beautiful voices have touched the hearts of millions all over the world. Thankyou so very much. Congratulations on all of your brilliant work... looking forward to the Aussie release!!

Wassup Jessie,
I just finished viewing the trailer for RENT online and was BLOWN away I cannot wait to see the movie which looks like a BIG SUCCESS for you and the entire cast. I have had the pleasure of seeing the play three times and from the very first time I saw the play I became a fan for life. Waiting for 11/11/05 to get here so that I can enjoy RENT the movie. Stay blessed, stay strong and keep a smile on your face.

Hello Jesse,
Wow, I am a huge fan of both you and RENT. I love you as Ed Greene and can't wait for you to come back next season. I am so glad that you did this movie with the rest of the original cast. I can't wait to see the movie. Also, you did an awsome job at the Tony Awards and thought that was a great way of remebering Jerry. Again, I can't wait to see you and everyone else in this movie.

Man - I WISH I had been able to see the original version in NY. It'll be great to see so many of that cast in the film. Fortunately I did get to see it on stage - twice. Once in San Diego when it first started touring (Neil Patrick Harris played Mark in that production) and then again in Los Angeles a few years later. The trailer looks AWESOME and I can't wait!!!
Posted by: Cynthia on 06/16/05 at 07:35 PM
I am an absolute fanatic to Rent ever since I first heard the music. I have never seen the play (except for a bootleg of the San Diego cast in 2000...sorry about that) but I have fallen madly in love with the music, the script, the issues, and the whole production.
I think that you should know that you are such a talented actor, singer, etc. I absolutely love your work. I find myself watching re-runs of Law and Order just to see if you are on.
You are fabulous, and I cannot wait until the movie comes out!
And awesome job at the Tony's...it was spectacular!
Love always,
Molly

One of my favorite things about the trailer was you and the solo. You ARE the reason I watch Law and Order, and the reason I checked out that new Christmas Carol. I can not wait man. You are great. Thanks for the entry.

Hi all. I have had the pleasure of working on the film with Jesse and the rest of the fab cast on this film production of RENT. My name is Troy and I was part of the skelton crew and am one of the Bohemians that are the extended family/neighbors of the characters you all know so well and love so much. You'll see me and my streaked blonde Rod Stewart do in La Vie Boheme, Rent and the tango section. I just want to say that the greatest care has been given to honor and respect the original material while at the same time making this thing come to life on celluloid. What I want to share is that your fab OBC like Jesse as well as the newbies put their hearts and their souls into this project daily. They were a pleasure to work with and very welcoming to all of us newcomers. One thing is for sure... we ALL hope we make you proud. I'm sure there will be a few dissapointments for some where a favorite song is trimmed etc. but hopefully that will be made up by some fabulous new surprises that can and will become NEW favorite moments. Remember, it's a different medium. ENJOY. And wait until you hear the OBC whalin' on the rockin' remakes of the music!!! Another fun thing is that there are several other Broadway cast members in different parts of the film... a kinda Where's Waldo... see if you can find 'em!
Peace out,
Troy

Hi,
I am SO EXCITED for this movie!! I just found out about it and I can barely contain myself. I've been bugging my roommate every 2 minutes when I discover new info about it "OH! Did you know that...__???" Probably driving her nuts! =P Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know that you have yet another fan eagerly awaiting the movie. I love that you all seem excited about it, too! And the blog is a very, very cool feature. I approve. =) haha. Thanks for the entry! Can't wait for the movie. =)

Just a general comment to answer the two posts that asked what a "DP" is as referenced in Jesse's entry. It's my understanding that the DP he's referring to is the Director of Photography.
If that's incorrect, I apologize ... but I'm pretty sure that's what he means.

When I heard that most of the OBC was going to be performing in the movie, I was so thrilled. Now that I've seen the preview, I'm even more excited! The story and the music has had such an impact on me. I cannot wait to see the movie!
Have fun!

Thanks for the post! Can't wait to see the OBC together again! I absolutely love your "I'll Cover You." Your presence on the stage is amazing and your voice is so powerful- couldn't imagine the show without you. See you soon on the big screen!

Jesse-
I'm so glad to read that all of the cast seems to be having a fantastic time making the film. And I must say that I couldn't be more thrilled about its release. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see the show until this past December, but it was a great production and I am so excited to see the cast in the film version. I have now doubt that it will be nothing short of amazing, and we all know we have Jonathan Larson to thank for it.

Hey Jesse, You wouldn't have been driving down the freeway in/near San Fran, singing to RENT without the music, windows rolled down, would you have, say, last week sometime??
Posted by: Natalie on 06/20/05 at 01:20 AM
Jesse, I have to say that when i first realized it was YOU on the OBC soundtrack, that i have almost worn out, I was suprised. You are a phenomenal actor, but i didn't know you could sing phenomenally as well. Plus you handle it all with a marvelous aplomb and grace. Although, I'm sure you get tired of hearing that all the time. I am really looking forward to this movie. My uncle saw the OBC on broadway, and loves RENT almost as much as I do, so I am trying to get ahold of him so we can see it together! I haven't seen him since I went on this exchange program, and i miss him dearly! thanks for putting this movie out in time for us to go see it together at thanksgiving(i know that's not the ONLY REASON)! And thanks for making me laugh when Hollywood whatever asked you if you hazed Miss Dawson, and you said "Naw, she's too purdy." made me giggle. Thanks.
A fan forever,
Lauren <3

Hi Jesse!
Omg I can't believe you're actually going to read this, I'm trembling. Um yea you probably don't even know what I'm talking about but I'm a friend of Chris Cassidy's family and he asked you to sign a headshot for me? He gave it to me for my fourteenth birthday and I'm looking at it right now. He keeps saying how he just wants to give you my email address but can't. When he got married he promised to call me if you were there and let me talk to you. So yea um enough of that rambling. I just wanted to let you know how much I adore you. When is the soundtrack to Bright Lights, Big City coming out? I want to hear you and my boy Patrick Wilson! Can't wait for this movie

Jesse,
I just want to say thank you for reprising your role as Tom Collins. I remember when I saw the OBC it has almost been 9 years and still I have vivid memories of that performance, "single frames of one magic night forever flicker in close up on the 3D Imax of my mind" I have seen RENT 13 times since seeing all of you and it really has become a part of who I am as a person. The message is just so amazing and I am so glad it is finally gonna reach the masses. Have fun with the rest of the shoot and with all of the publicity you guys are gonna have to do in the next couple of months. Thank you again, I know it was probably hard to take a break from Law & Order. Can't wait till November 11th!

Jesse,
First of all, I have to follow the countless other people who have already done so, by saying a huge Thank You for reprising your role as Collins. You brought a really unique and wonderful quality to the character as did the rest of the OBC cast and its an amazing thing to see almost everyone reprising their roles and bringing it all to the screen. November just can't come soon enough. Especially for someone like myself who didn't have the opportunity to see the OBC cast live, this is a very exciting thing to be happening. And Rosario and Tracie sound like they're really making their mark and I can't wait to hear/see them in their respective roles. So thank you again and I look foward to your next post. :-)
Best of luck
-Mika

Hey Jesse! I am a big fan of RENT and Law and Order too. I am so glad that you were able to get time off from the hit TV series to make this film. RENT on screen means a lot to you guys as it means a lot to the fans of the show. I think you are great in both roles, though I must confess I never saw the original cast perform. I have seen the show on Broadway six times. Still, I love the original cast recording best. Can't wait to see you on the BIG screen ... and back on the little screen too. Peace!
Posted by: Kelly on 06/21/05 at 09:03 AM
So, let me get this straight. You play Tom Collins, which pretty much requires the lowest voice in the RENT cast, I would think. And then you bust out that *awesome* solo in the trailer, capping it off with a high A! Truly impressive; what a range!
Posted by: Steve on 06/22/05 at 09:04 AM
OH MY GOD! I am so excited to see this movie! I LOVED the stage performance...and i can't get enough of the soundtrack. You guys all look like you are having fun. Good luck with the rest of it!

Thanks for the reassurance, Jesse! I've enjoyed Columbus's previous work on the first two Harry Potter films and Home Alone, but RENT is...just..a LITTLE different. Anyway, before I ramble like I did on Tracie's post, you rocked the Tony's with Razzle Dazzle and I loved your Seasons of Love solo on the *cough* much-bootlegged teaser.

Hi!
First and foremost I'd truly like to say thank you...you and the other cast member have no idea how many people you have inspired doing the stage version and will inspire after making this film...you've especially inspired a large chunk of the Drama Club at a particular high school in NC...you'd be amazed at how this show served as the soundtrack for the milestones and "freak-outs" in some of our lives...and how many times we've terrorized late night parking lots "Renting-out" in various locations. We have plenty of drama majors because of some of the amazing performances we saw of this show (myself being one of them)all in all I just wanted to tell you and the rest of the people involved thank you, and good luck.
Best Wishes,
Aurelia
P.S.:You were better than awesome at the Tony's.

Jesse,
I just had to say, awesome to see you in the movie. I had no idea you were in the original cast, or that you were ever on Broadway. I watch Law and Order all the time, but I never found out until I read the booklet from the soundtrack (which I bought immediately after I saw the show my first and only time on Broadway) that you were the original Collins. I'm stoked for the movie this November. I know it'll be great.

I am such a fan of yours!

Jesse, you are an amazing actor and singer. I get chills every time I hear your voice. I've seen RENT in Vegas many times, but never on Broadway. Try to catch you on the tv whenever you're on. Can't wait for the movie to see the rest of the awesome and talented OBC. Keep up the good work and if you're ever in Vegas, I'd love the chance to meet you in person.
HOLLA!!

Hi. I can't wait until the movie comes out!!! I saw it on Broadway, and you were FABULOUS!!!! I also think that it's amazing that I have the same name as one of the characters. lol. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I think you are awesome, and you are amazing on Law & Order.

OK...had to go on a 4 hour car ride today...listened to I'll Cover You (reprise which is #10 on the 2nd CD) over and over and over. Personally I think it is THE best song on the entire original broadway cast recording. Thanks.

Jesse,
I have to tell you that I am so blown away by your talent and versitility. I saw the preview for Rent this weekend when I took my little sister to the movies and we are both thrilled to death that you are a part of this project. I am a HUGE fan of Law and Order and I can't wait to see you in this film. You are amazing.

Thank you for all of the work you and your fellow cast members do to inspire us every day. I played Ophelia in a recent high school production of Hamlet and we used I'll Cover You Reprise as part of the show, and it made me cry (more easily) every time I was supposed to onstage. I owe it to you, sir. Keep those vocals greased.

Never had the opportunity to see you in Rent on Broadway but from knowing your work on Law and Order, feel that you could only be sensational.
Saw the trailer for the movie and am intenswely hooked. Cannot wait.
Good luck.

Jesse, I was fortunate to see the OBC years ago and I will never forget I'll cover you (reprise) I has actually stood in the cancellation line for 5 hours to get tickets and ended up buying the last seat, but it was worth it. I came to the show, not knowing anything about Rent, but I can honestly say that day my life changed. As a man who was just coming to grips with his own sexuality it was the love and raw heart felt emotion that kept me in my seat as the theater emptied. My friends actually had to come into the theater and help me out of my seat. I stood outside and waited for the performers, something that I've never done and had the opportunity to meet everyone.
All that aside, I can't wait to hear you sing your poignant love song of raw emotion one more time. You changed my life and I thank you for that.
And to think I will be able to own this on DVD....

Happy 4th! May I just say how AMAZING you are Mr. Martin, as well as the rest of the OBC!!! I LOVE (and that is a tremendous understatement) RENT, although I am utterly dissapointed that I was too young and lived too far away to see it in NY with the OBC. I am studying to major in Musical Theatre and, to be honest, don't know how I feel about the movie coming out. I never have gotten a chance to see RENT onstage, and whenever a movie of a musical is put out, I feel as though I don't get the full appreciation for it if I haven't seen it onstage first. And some performances are quite disappointing at that. It makes it better, however, that most of the OBC is in the movie. AWESOME. I wish you all would do a reunion show or something. ;] How awesome that would be. Mucho amore to all the cast!

Jesse,
Hey there! I got the RENT cd for christmas a really long time ago and i still listen to it almost every single day. You have an incredible voice and you are my favorite character in the whole show. I'll cover you: reprise is my favorite song in the whole show. I saw RENT on broadway almost a week ago and loved it, and I am so excited to see the movie with the origional cast! I am so excited I am already counting down the days...cant wait! P.S: I love Law and Order! You're the greatest!

Hi Jesse,
I have 3 words for you.... I love you! I am so thrilled about the movie and even more excited that you are in it. I must confess that I listen the OBC recording EVERY day and, to this day, I get chills when I hear "I'll Cover You" (reprise). You are truly phenomenal. Your work is fabulous no matter what you do. Your personality seems warm and endearing. Thanks for allowing me to enjoy your work!
BTW...one of my dreams is to sing with you....hmmm...let me know if you get to southeastern PA!!!
A True Admirer,

Hey, Jesse. I was just talking to my dad about getting Italian for dinner when I remembered that you were at the restaurant (Mina's, in Ardsley [westchester]) filming an episode of Law & Order. My dad and I were getting takeout there on night and we saw the picture of you with a couple of the guys from Mina's. I started talking to the guy at the counter, and he was saying "I remember when Jesse came here. He was really nice and really talented." I just felt like I wanted to share that with you.
Love,
Rachel

Hey Jesse!
I've posted before, just with support and excitement etc, but now that some of the actors are answering questions in their blogs..I thought maybe you might too. So, if you get the chance to answer questions, I have a few! hehe I'm pretty much giving all the cast the same few questions to see what it was like for each of you.
-What was it like to reunite with the cast-I saw you talk about that a little on an interview- but can you give any specifics about how people have changed or how you all have grown as artists/people?
-What was your favorite scene to film and/or what scene touched you the most? Where did you feel the essence of RENT shining through the strongest?
-What is your favorite song from RENT? why?
-What was it like to become Collins again? Was it easy to become close to the character again or did it take a while to feel at ease?
-Did you have any doubts when you first heard about RENT becoming a film?
-Would you ever (after Law&Order is over sayyy 20 years from now hehe) consider coming back to the role of Collins or any other broadway roles? (I just love your voice!)
-And, really would you all have a rep group where you would all do films (or um maybe musicals?) together? That would be so amazing!
Well, Thanks so much for caring about the fans and if you get the chance to answer any of these: Thank you SO much.
love
Chelsea

Wow! I know you're very busy, so I was thrilled to learn that you would be in the movie. Since I saw you in RENT on Broadway, I've also caught your performances on Ally McBeal, A Christmas Carol, and Law & Order. I marvel at your acting ability, and I wish I'd been one of the lucky people in my New York City group to get your autograph. We were all extremely impressed with all the actors' performances, and I wish I could've seen the show better (I was having trouble with my contacts, which made my first RENT experience a little confusing)! Can't wait to see you in the movie.

First of all, I would like to say that i am a HUGE fan of your work. Your voice is so pure and filled with emotion and you are a superb actor. Hopefully this movie brings you fame beyond your wildest expectations. My question for you is: What is it like to play a gay man "living with" aids and where do you draw your inspiration from in relation to those emotionally charged performances with Wilson's character Angel?
Posted by: Josh on 07/11/05 at 10:33 AM
Jesse-
Are you going to go back to Law and Order after Rent is over? You are my favorite character! I'm so excited about the Rent movie because I never got to see the OBC.

Hi Jesse!
I am a big fan of your work on 'Law & Order', and I absolutely love your voice on the 'RENT' soundtrack, but I've felt that I've been missing out since I did not get to see you perform in 'RENT' on broadway. I am so excited for this film because it will allow all of us new fans to feel as though we've been a part of it all from the beginning. Thanks so much for posting, and good luck with everything!

I saw rent for the first time on tour in Baltimore then I bought the soundtrak and was like this is the guy from Law and Order, 413 hope st., Alley McBeilI was floored then the more I listen the more I became attached. My girl friend has said I am a hopeless rent-head . The play is amazing and every one in it is. (Damn Taye I did not know you could sing like that)It is wonderful to see a Black male create a role that is not so... Black,a slave,or ghetto. Jesse Your voice is amazing and has given me a goal. I hope to be in rent one day playing Collins, then meet you and say thank you, because of your courage and talent I can live out my dream. Jonathan Larson ,Rent movie cast, and director thank you for being so damn talented and giving me another dream outside of the box.

Ok Jesse L. Martin here's what i think,
AMAZING! I really do love you guys! I really LOVED the movie! I think i was spilling tears like all the second act....well in the movie there was no second act but you know what i mean. I got to share it with my friend who has never seen the play or heard the music....just to tell you she is now obsessed! The one person she really thought had a "to die for" voice was you so yay!My high school A Cappella groups is performing "Seasons of Love" and i'm actually going to sing the "in truths that she learned" solo. I'm a soprano so that is going to be interesting. ;D And just a quick question.....have you ever appear in an X-Files show? And seriously i love you guys!! You should do a sweepstakes to meet you all! That would be freakin AMAZING!!

Great job "Collins." I love the movie and I thought you did an awesome job. I really think that your T.V. fans will be truly surprised to see how different of a character you are playing/played in RENT. Other than Collins, have you ever played a homosexual male and is playing a gay role any different from playing a heterosexual role?
Posted by: Molly on 11/28/05 at 12:45 PM
Hey Jesse!
First off bravo, you did a wonderful preformance, second off what was the hardest part about acting as someone who had a loved one die? And how were you so convincing?? I'm a twelve year old aspiring broadway-er and I really want to know what you secret!
Much love,

Outstanding! That's the only word for your performance, and that of the rest of the cast,in the movie. You were all so true to the soul of the stage production. My wife and I were blubbering idiots from the funeral scene on out to the end. Thank you for sharing this gift with us all.
Posted by: Guy on 11/30/05 at 03:53 PM
Ok... Probably no one will ever read this (it being an old post and all) but Jesse said to come back once we saw the movie... So here I am. I've seen it three times so far (and again tomorrow- when I SHOULD be studying for finals, but what can I say? RENT has taken over my life... once again) and have loved it every time. Wow. It's so weird to be able to take my friends to see the movie of the show I've talked about for way too long. It's amazing to see them fall in love with it, too. To talk to them about the issues RENT brings into focus. To break down some walls and actually see eye-to-eye.
Thank you, Johnathan Larson. And thank you, cast. And thank you, Chris Columbus.

Incredible! Incredible! Incredible! That is what Rent was to me. I have seen this movie six times since it opened and each time I fall more and more in love with it. You are an amazing actor who gives so much to this character. Everyone cast member does. I ball my eyes out everytime I see it from the funeral on because you make us believe the love between Collins and Angel and the pain that Collins feels. Congrats on an incredible movie!
Posted by: Meg O on 12/12/05 at 11:49 AM
hey Collins you are so awesome in the movie and when u sang i will cover you i was crying. you are good in Law & order too. keep doing what u are doing and my mom loves u she thinks u are a good actor and she saw when u were in the play.

Hey, Jesse! They say you really read this. Just gotta say BAVPA props to you - we all knew you were special and super-talented and all you've done is prove us right. You're far away from the days of Flying Milk and Runaway Plates...
Hugs to you.

Hey Jesse! I loved seeing you in Rent. I usually watch re-runs of Law and Order and it was a nice change seeing more of your acting skills. I think you have a great voice and a beautiful smile. It's a shame that you don't get to use that smile very much on Law and Order. Tell them they should write it into the script more often.
much love w/hugs

Hey Jesse, I don't know if you still check this site, but I just watched the movie again tonight and felt like I needed to express my appreciation. Collins and Angel are my favorite couple in the show and I love the way you play Collins; so gentle and affectionate yet forceful and strong. I also enjoy watching Law and Order and hope to see you as Marvin Gaye in the future. The diverse roles you play are really a testament to your ability. Thank you for sharing it with us! I absolutely love your work...keep it coming!

Hey Jesse, me again. Just had to add to my entry that looking through the blog I can see that you guys had a blast with this movie. I can't imagine how amazing of an experience it must have been to be reunited and I'm really happy for all of you. Also, just a random side-note, whenever I ride a city bus (no subways in Madison) a big part of me wants to start dancing down the aisle. Did you find that scene difficult? Looked like a lot of fun...makes me smile every time :)
Posted by: Molly on 03/18/06 at 12:08 AM
Jesse,
This movie has moved me in many ways that I can't even explain. I had my friends over today and we saw the RENT movie but I already have seen it about five times consecutively. I LOVE THIS MOVIEEEE and to know that you were in the movie was so amazing because out of all the actors I didn't expect you to play in a movie like this one. In addition, playing a homosexual brother with Angel was a hot scene and very touching to know that you and some of the other people have HIV on the movie was simply unbelieveable. I would love to meet you and the rest of the crew. This movie means alot to me. I LOVE YOU ALL.
