Enjoying Every Moment by Wilson Jermaine Heredia (Angel)
Last night I got to do my stunt sequence where I kick a cop during the riot scene. I was waiting three days to get to that part and it felt sooooo good to whup some tush. It gives me satisfaction to show all the facets of Angel instead of a one-dimensional drag queen that screams and runs for cover. In my life I've actually seen drag queens take off their kid gloves and fight like the men that they are with straight men and win! I have more stories true believers. Stay tuned. As a diehard fan, it is absolutely wonderful to get the chance to read your thoughts and interact this much. Thankyou! I got the experience of a lifetime as a "young activist" in the riot scene, and must say you looked gooood kicking the cops' butts.
Hope filming continues great for you all, and keep making funny faces. ;)

Hey Wilson!
You're so awesome! I'm so excited about a RENT movie. I can't wait to see it... I don't live in New York, so getting to see RENT is a rare treat. It's still my fave. Broadway show, and I gotta thank you for originating my favorite character! Thanks Wilzon!

My first time seeing RENT was with you and the entire original broadway cast...no understudies. I know how lucky I am to have seen that...the 16 times I've seen it since then have been great too :) But I always wished I could've seen you guys again....
and then the news....
the OBC to star in the movie.
I'm now on a very slow-moving rollercoaster toward November...each day building more and more momentum.
Though I respect the other actors, you were hands-down the best Angel I saw and I love you for that.
Can't wait to see you in the movie! Thanks for posting.

I'm glad to hear that they're going to be making Angel more multi-faceted. She's one of my favorite characters and I know that you'll perform her excellently.
Looking forward to the movie! Keep us posted!

YAY for beating up cops. Can't wait to see that scene. Too many people see drag queens as prissy and afraid to break a nail and whatnot, but I agree that this will add a lot to Angel's character, as does the part where Mimi is remembering Angel saying to that skinhead that she was more of a man than he'd ever be and more of a woman than he'd ever get

Oh my god this is so amazing. I just got into RENT about two months ago and I must say I am hooked NO I'm insanely in love with it! Sadly I haven't seen a Broadway showing muchless a play...but I bought the extended original cast version. You have such a beautiful voice. God you have no idea how happy I was to find out you were playing Angel in the movie. I almost cried. Wow I probably sound like some crazy fangirl. I must calm down, but the fact that you might even read this gives me goosebumps. I hope you have fun making the movie and be safe. Take care God bless.

Hey Wilson! Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see this movie, I hope it will be as phenomenal as I am thinking it will be! I am excited to see Angel is kicking some ass, best wishes! <3

!Tears of joy!
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to post your feelings on the movie. What a relief to know that this project will hopefully live up to the stage version. Just to know that the message of RENT will be spread to mass audiences is thrilling....and also to know that you might be reading this (fan insanity moment). As an actress I admire your work and have set it as a standard...a tough standard, but we must all dare to dream. The voices, characterization and energy of the cast are unparalleled --- to think that in a few months all this passion will be accesible through film in Miami! All the anticipation is killing me softly. Best of luck with everything (let's see if now you guys will sweep the Oscars, too)!

Hey gang:
It's Gwennie here. Wow it's finally being done. It does my heart good to hear that the show is in good hands (thanks for that Julie), and that you guys (as the original core) are apart of it. I'm confident the heart of what Jonathan started will shine through. I believe he's always watched over this work and given it his blessing. Have fun, kick butt and keep us informed. All my love as always.

Hey Wilson,
My friends saw RENT, and came back ranting about it. I of course, had not heard of it yet, until they came back from NY City after seeing it. I would just like you to know...you have taken on a role most wouldn't dare. I, myself, am a real live 18 yr. old drag queen with cancer, so I immediately fell in love with Angel and had to run out and but the OBC album, because the show truly spoke to me on a level most people can never comprehend. What's even funnier, is that I am a bohemian and street performer. I play cello, and perform in the Downtown area sometimes for spare change. I would just like you to know, that in an odd and coincidental way, you're playing me. I cry everytime Angel dies, because it hits home with me, and the struggle with my disease. I look forward to seeing Jon's vision on stage. I know he's somewhere right now, smiling, saying, "well done; well done."
Posted by: Rick on 05/11/05 at 07:23 PM
Wilson, I got to meet you after your performance in Eli's Coming at the Vineyard Theater, you wrote on a program for me, "Much love and thankx 4 your support, WJHeredia." I will never forget that, you even were the inspiration for my name in Spanish class junior year, why? My name was Angel. :) Thanks for your kindness when I talked to you that evening. You were so wonderful. Good luck with the movie!
Posted by: jake on 05/11/05 at 07:57 PM
Angel beating up a cop is definitely going to be awesome, I hope you made him cry. And I can't wait for the all future stories. Y'all look great and there's no one else I'd want playing these roles on the big screen.

Oh, and thanks for being so sweet when I met you at Adam's concert...sorry I freaked out so much lol ;) You probably don't remember me but thought I'd mention it anyway...

I am so excited to see you perform this role, especially with the gifts of film to capture the whole character. I wish i could have seen you on Broadway, but either way, you are such a talented person and you have the voice of a true angel. I admire you so much and thank you for doing everything you have to contribute to the world of the arts, especially dancing in high heels.
Love,
Nicole

Hey Wilson,
Just like the other 30 people before me, I'm thrilled to get to see you in the role of Angel. I just recently bought the CD and fell in love with your character and the struggles she goes through. Angel really is a great role model for the younger GLBT community. Thanks!

Wow! That sounds way cool! I can't wait to see it when it finally comes out! Its been far to long - haha! Sorry Stole that off a friend.
6 months to go!!
Posted by: T-chan on 05/13/05 at 06:53 AM
Hey it's me again. they messed up the messages somehow anyway mine was the long crazy fangirl one that was entered as from Fizz...I dont know what that's about.
I have a few questions for you. Is it hard to play Angel in general? I mean the high heels eek I'm sure they hurt, I mean hitting those high notes in songs is that hard? I surely cant sing that high. Is it hard playing drag? I mean if you're straight I think it would be hard. *sigh* that gets on my nerves anway. Straight? So being Homosexual does that makes one 'crooked'? When I came out in high school people were very cruel are people cruel to you since you play drag? I hope not.
Sorry for rambling. Take care God Bless

Hallelujah, Angel gets to "Today for you" someone right in the tush. God, that is going to be more exciting than I can imagine **jumps up and down (in Angel fashion of course)** I never had the chance to see you perform in what I believe to be one of the BEST roles Broadway has ever offered to the public and I always regretted that (I came into the RENT fan club too late) but now I get to see you perform in the "Be all, end all" of RENT and I know it will be amazing. You keep doing what you are doing because it is already perfection. Good luck to you and the rest of the cast. CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Ohh I'm excited to see Angel get into it in the fights too! It will be so great to see some of the elements like that they can do more with on film.

OMG YOU KICK ASS ANGEL GIRL! Yey, I have joined the ranks of the insane RENT fangirls. I've only seen it once, but I'm going again in two weeks. My renthead friends and I are going to the movie theater in costume, and I swear if the "moo with me" line is being kept, then godamnit we're gonna moo. We'll probably be politely escorted from the theater to the nearest insane assylum, but it will be worth it. Okay, sorry... I can't wait until 11/11!

Your character is the life and love of the story. Thank you so much for playing this beautiful part, both in the musical and the upcoming movie. I'm so grateful for what this play has given us all, and I'm sure Mr. Larson would be thrilled to see this happen.
Way to kick ass, literally and figuretively.

I appreciate that the character of Angle portrays an outrageous and fun character while still remaining connected to reality and proving that emotions are real and valid no matter what someone's sexual orientation or race is. thanks for sharing your gift with the rest of us!

Hi Wilson,
I am very excited to see you reprise your role as Angel. I met you outside of the theatre in November 1996. You were walking by a few hours before the show, and my friend yelled "Angel I love you!" I just mention this because you were so sweet to stop and sign autographs for us. I was completely blown away by your performance that night (I especially loved the Contact scene. It made so much more sense, and was so powerful seeing it live). I am looking forward to seeing you again in the movie.
Best of luck to you!

HEY!!!!
A few questions. Since you are a Latino how was it for you being picked for the cast of RENT? I've only read about that but I wanted to know from the person who experienced it. What nationality are you? I'm Puerto Rican. I'm glad that a latino has such an important role in theater for this generation.
Thanks for being in RENT!

Wilson, you were wonderful. It's hard to pick favorites of this show - I've seen the play numerous times with my daughter and we went to see the movie yesterday - but you definitely were my favorite. I loved the whole cast - you all did a spectacular job. I hope to get to see you in future works either on Broadway or the screen.

Hey, Wilson... it's Joe Herrera! Remember me? Your twin brother from Popul Vuh?! I can't believe your on-screen now... I'm very proud of you! I'm living in Orlando, married w/5 kids! LOL! I've gotten back into acting out here. We need to catch up... email me when you get a chance! Blessings!

Hi Wilson! I just saw the movie for the 2nd time today. I thought it was amazing, and you did a fantastic job with Angel. She was really inspiring. That last scene at the end really made me cry. Congratulations on everything! Best of luck,
Alayna :)

Angel is such an amazing charecter, and so, so important. She has really changed my life. You are an amazing actor, you portray her so well. You've really changed my life, and i so appreciate it. Its also great you take the time to write out these messages. Im so insane about RENT, and the hear its part OBC was so amazing, especially becuase you get to ressurect your role. It really does touch my heart to see interaction with the fans. I wish i could meet everyone from RENT, or at least read some of thier oppinons. The movie came out 3 days ago, and i've already seen it every day so far. I cry each time, you have such an amazing charecter and skill. Angel is beyond amazing. It so hard for me to express how i feel, but i think i tourtered everyone enough with this incredibly long post. All i can really say is Thank You. and i mean it with all my heart.

wow. i went to see the movie, cause all of my friends were taling about it. it was pretty awesome, and needless to say, Angel was definately my favorite charactar. That was one of the best acting jobs I've ever seen. My sister and i saw the poster before we walked into the theater, and she said that before she saw the movie, she thought it actually was a woman. Anyway, i hope rent pays off for you, and you are in some more films. I'll be looking for them. good luck.

Wilson, I have to say that your performance is Oscar worthy. I have seen the movie a number of times, and I still get chills. You are incredible at bringing Angel to life. It is possible for me to think you are gorgeous as a man and a women. Although I prefer you as a man (lol). I even remember when you guest starred on Law and Order: SVU. I hope you continue to have much success. I love you and your work.

Wilson -
You've inspired me beyond belief. I've become a total fan; I loved how you played Angel as a real person and not some stereo-typical drag queen. I watched you in Law and Order a little while ago; you were so great! I cried when they made Evan watch the tape, mostly because you looked so sad. I went to the movie theaters and saw Rent 13 times, I would've gone more, but snowing in Maine makes it hard to travel. Every time Without You came on people would because staring at me wondering why I was hysterically crying. That must've been really hard to do.
I hope to see you in more! Good luck!

Honestly, the only thought that truly crossed my mind after leaving the movie theatre was, "Angel. An angel indeed." Awe-struck? Would that be appropriate? You are an amazing chameleon, a true thespian. To learn more about you, and your acting career, I'm sure is just the beginning of a great story. Thank you Wilson, for inspiring us thespians.. If that were me I'd be soakin my feet every night.
When you and Jesse sung "I'll cover you" all I
could say was awwwwww!By the way, what was your
reaction when you heard you were going to be holding hands, singing love songs, and kissing with
another man?

hey its krissy i have to say another thing to wilson one of the parts that get stuck in my head is when "angel" busts the lock of the door after new years and collins is like baby your drunk and "angel" say no im not al latino that was hot and now every time im sitting at home i randomly burst out w/no im not and no then my mom starts saying it to then its stuck in my head all the next day well g2g

I just saw rent for the first time ever on dvd about two weeks ago. I have always heard about the show ever since high school but never had the opportunity to see it performed. Needless to say I though it was absolutely awesome. Every character played the roles so well. I heard the obc of rent back in high school (Where i got to sing Collins solo in seasons of love for our choral performance, hurray) and thought the music was awesome so i was looking forward to seeing what ive heard for sooo long come to life. Angel was named correctly because his role was so beautiful so full of life. He was such a pure character and the strongest characters in the story. He in essence kept the family alive even after his death (which killed me). Wilson (I hope I can call you that) your role has me mesmerized and i cant get over the song ill cover you. Its just the joy that you put into the character. Anyone can see that you love that role and i must say i understand the honor you must feel everytime you see the show or read a comment about her. I have a question for anyone who can possibly give me an answer. I am currently in iraq right now and cant wait to get home cause i already have a trip planned to see rent performed live for the first time. In the meantime, is there any way to get a copy of the broadway performance on dvd or vhs. I just cant get the thought of seeing the show from every possible angle again and again out of my head. I have been to every website i know searching for an answer with no avail so if anyone knows please respond or help me with this info. Thanks again to every member of the cast. You have all brought me great joy with this film and im sure you have brought the same to others whether it was their first time or their hundreth time.
a fan forever

And I'm quite proud of you for *running* in those heels during I'll Cover You! I couldn't run in those heels for anything... I'd fall! (I trip over shoelaces... and flat ground)

I think that you are amazing an actor and a singer (hitting those high notes can't be all that easy =]]). But, yea.. Haha. I'm kind of at a loss for words but I was wondering what you think is harder, acting on a stage for a live audience or acting in a film? I'm guessing a film, but I'm not sure and I've always wondered because i act on stage all the time. And I love it pretty much more than anything. I'm going to see Rent when it comes to the FOX theatre in Atlanta when it comes in June even though i've already seen the movie. but I'm excited because i like watching plays as well. My school isn't somewhat musically challenged because we don't have any guys who can really sing well so we're not even doing a musical this year. But I'm just kinda rambling now. So, yes. I'm just kind of in awe at this site and how you actually read this and everything. Anyway, you're an ah-mazing actor and I really enjoyed watching you in RENT. =]

You are my hero, Wilson! If I were a guy, I'd be you...I think I was born a decade too late...I never was able to see the Broadway preformance with you and ythe rest of the fabulous cast. I hear you're doing a final preformance on the 24th...good luck with that...I can't go because its too expensive (I live in Oregon so the ticket over would be uber expensive, plus it's on a school day ;). I LOVE THE MOVIE SO MUCH...It's not like other movies where I'm just infantuated with it for a month and then I forget it...this will carry with me for life...each time I watch it, I learn a new beatiful lesson to make my life full of love and life. I decided to try and live my life like Angel does, full of expression and love, because this movie has made me realize that there really is no day but today! :) --Meredith (aka. Mereman) ps. Wilson,
I recently rented the DVD, afterward, I just had to have my own copy. I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this movie! I got the chance to see the play in Chicago (Broadway in Chicago) the very last show on 4/15. Now I can at least compare the play with the movie. I loved them both! RENT rings close to my heart, I have a cousin who's HIV positive and I am inspired by how you portray Angel, with such honesty, love and dignity. You give me hope when I think of my cousin. NO DAY BUT TODAY!
Thank you, Wilson...and thank you, Angel!

I'm glad that I get to speak about this experience because it's not as easy as it looks. I'm enjoying every moment, even the days that my feet are on fire from the high heels or my back muscles seize up on me from the high impact activity; I love it all. The cast and crew, I mean everyone, is a joy to work with and I pray that I'll be blessed to work with them again in the future.
